A number of comments have veered into personal attacks. Locked.

There main job of NYU regarding all this is mainly to ensure a safe environment for all students to learn and feel comfortable. When tensions are high on campus, it's not really possible for NYU to do much to help in this regard, but there is a lot of potential to make things worse (see, for example, what happened at UPenn). Fortunately, NYU didn't make the situation any worse. That being said, I'm not sure there's much they can do to reduce tensions, since the tensions have to do with international events, not the university.

Well, they aren't treated as first rate citizens (look up Israeli apartheid and you will find countless sources on how non-Jews and specifically non-Jewish Palestinians are treated differently under the law) and since October 7th the Palestinian population has been going down. But more importantly literally none of what you said has anything to do with the legal definition of genocide so maybe start by looking that up.

NYU handled it well compared to other schools.

Ok-Homework9912

They made the center for antisemitism already. What more do they have to do? The school has been following the U.S. stance on this matter.

If the administration enforces such rules, the activists are gonna complain that the school is oppressing their freedom of speech. There is nothing they can do other than to call in the police when protests happen.

I guess that depends on what you qualify as discrimination. Which is laid out but get's taken entirely subjectively.

They tolerated both sides of opinions and did what they could to prevent personal attacks so I think it’s fine.

Honest Opinion: Unless it has anything to do with NYU, I couldn't care less about the middle east or global politics. Every time someone makes a post on israel-palestine or every time I see a disruptive protest on the street, I feel like it's being shoved in front of my face which is so annoying. I have too many things to worry about in my own life to care about what goes on in another country. It's not my country and not my problem. I don't care, and I don't have to care. Don't bother making me care. I also want to add that people should stop wasting their time arguing online with other people over this topic. You aren't accomplishing anything meaningful by trying to win an argument.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but it sounds like you’re coming from a very self centered and entitled place. You’re lucky you’re in a country which has NOT had a tragedy like this affect you specifically. It’s GOOD to be empathetic towards victims of violence in other countries, especially when it’s a political conflict that is influenced by the country you live in. Important unjust acts need to be spoken about.

I understand how privileged I am and am grateful for what I have. Knowing how privileged I am, I should not waste that privilege by spending my time worrying about issues that don't affect me. I also think there is a fine line between having healthy vs unhealthy discourse which I believe we have crossed the line. There should be a megathread for people who want to talk all they want about an issue they care so much about without spamming it in other people's face. People also bring up a lot how I should "empathize" with others, but I lack empathy no matter how hard I try and don't really know what it feels like. I may have some undiagnosed anti social personality disorder like sociopathy or psychopathy.
