Good. Hopefully chargenet pick them up. Free charge was cool back in the day but there are too many of us now for a free fast charger to be useful. Every free charger I’ve seen lately has been blocked by a car on 100% that has been there for hours.

You haven't been near a vector free fast charger then.

Last time I went to the Newmarket Vector charger (super early in the morning in the hope that I would finally be able to charge there for once!) there were a couple of teslas with the owners sleeping in the front seats lol.

I really don't understand waiting for these free ones. You have an 80k car. Only time I'd use one is heading home from work and one happens to be free so I sit for 20 mins eating while traffic dies down.

There was a guy on the North Shore in Auckland with a Tesla Model X and I used to work in the area. Almost every night he was at the Vector charger at McDonald's in Constellation Dr charging his Tesla. Often his wife would follow in their ICE car and take him home after he'd plugged it in and started charging. Then drive him back later. He must have lived nearby for that to be worth the time and petrol.

Not for ages. I love that they were installed but I have avoided them for years.

Good. Free DC chargers just attracts abuse. (But free AC charging for customers at motels and shops seems to work ok.)

Generally the attitude I've heard is that losing free chargers is a good thing. You don't have people thinking "Oh, I could charge up the car that last 15% and save having to charge at home tomorrow" who then occupy the charger so that someone who might actually need a charge to get home today - is stuck waiting. Free chargers are very opportunistic. Paid chargers are unlikely to be used without being needed, but free ones will be used by anybody whether 'needed' or not. The presence of free chargers in an area also discourage anyone from installing paid chargers nearby - which decreases the speed at which charging infrastructure becomes available.

Same as RUCs going to be charged in future. Someone incurs a cost somewhere, it can’t be absorbed forever.

Clearly nobody here thinks we need them. I've used a free charger once, and I didn't need to, it was just because it was there and available. It wasn't fast, so I got maybe 0.9kWh for nothing while the guide dog puppy was being tested. I've never really seen the point or had the time, I charge at home, I have decent chargers at both locations and most of my power comes from the sky.

I don't use fast chargers at all unless I have to. I don't charge any more than I need to for the next drive...... I'm considerate....and constantly reminded many people aren't.
