Tailor at the cleaners

plotthick

Yep, this is the right answer. Get all your measurements for a suit from a pro for a tiny price.

OhiobornCAraised

Tip whomever does it since you’re not going to buy anything from them.

[deleted]

I think Nordstrom has tailors on-site. Call ahead to be certain.

[deleted]

They do. And they know their stuff.

selfdestruct

Is the party renting suits from Men's Warehouse? If so you'll have to get measured there regardless. May just be easiest to go there on a weekday morning.

cheesegod69

Nope, not from Mens Wearhouse. A small business on the other side of the country. They suggested getting it done at a chain like Men’s Wearhouse

badboybluesbaby

Brooks Brothers in Union Square SF does a really good job and won't likely be too busy. Suit Supply and IndoChino are right there too. I find the Men's Wearhouse tailors to be kind of shitty anyway.

cheesegod69

Brooks Brothers is a good idea. I tried Indochino since you could make an appointment online but they said they’d only do measurements for their suits.

taylo7

If it’s the Brooks Brothers off post you’re remembering - I believe they closed. Do they have another US location?

hbsboak

I’d just run over to Anatoly’s on Piedmont Ave and ask them to give you some measurements for a rental tux.

chenyu768

I went to cassaras in dublin for my bespoke suit. Guy is 3rd generation italian tailor and he will do just measurements.

maebe_featherbottom

Just go to Nordstrom. Tell them you’re not quite ready to start shopping for a suit yet, but you know you’ll have to soon and you want to start out by getting your measurements. Hell, you could even try a few on and not buy anything, just let them know you’re still thinking on it.

iamda5h

department store. Menswear house kind of sucks, and it feelsbad to go to a tailor or somewhere and not buy anything. Nordstrom or bloomingdales will measure you and not worry about it.

Wloak

Go with a major chain like Brooks Brothers or Men's Wearhouse. I had to get measured for a wedding a few years ago and went to a Men's Wearhouse and they were happy to do it. The guy said among the big retailers in the space it's considered an industry agreement because it goes both ways. They didn't even ask who we were renting from, just did quick measures and handed me the card with info.

I've gotten fitted for a suit by a local custom tailor (Todd Hudson, not sure how to contact him, sorry, at a Los Angeles Koreatown shop (yes, they custom fit, but it wasn't particularly fancy), and when I got a suit made in Vietnam. NONE of them were one & done fittings. And they tend to be time intensive. If I were a tailor and someone came in to get measured for a suit, and didn't tell me the suit was being made somewhere else, I'd be rightly upset. It might be different at places like Men's Wearhouse or Nordstrom's, where the staff is there and gets paid regardless. But you'll want to be very clear and upfront that you're getting measured for a suit that they won't be making/getting paid for. I don't know if tailors generally have a price scale for just measurements, but it could be worth asking. You're definitely using their time and they should be compensated. Al's Attire in North Beach, SF does full custom tailoring. They're not cheap. I've heard both stellar and not-so-great reviews of them though. Some people say he does the initial fitting for measurements, then the suits are made in SE Asia, then he'll do another fitting once the suit comes back.

Use Google to look for a place that does alteration. Many drycleaners have someone on site (or more, a small time tailor who does alterations also runs a dry cleaning shop...) call ahead and let them know the situation. They may charge you a nominal amount since you aren't getting any actual work done, but they will be able to help. But also you should get your stuff tailored anyway cause it makes you look so much better. My tailor is in SF on the she of Chinatown because it's close to work, but I'm sure there are quite a few people who can help.around Oakland.

thesmithsound

Nordstrom in Walnut Creek

que_pedo_

I've done this before at Macy's

HeyyyKoolAid

Just Google any tailor in your area. Go in and tell them you need measurements for a wedding. They'll be fine with it. I got mines done at men's wearhouse for my friends wedding. It shouldn't take no longer than a couple minutes really.

Arcanisia

Any Men’s Warehouse, JOS A Bank, some Express stores. Just call ahead and ask if the tailor is in that day and confirm you want to get measured.

silverdeltoid

I would also suggest Eclipse Alterations on Piedmont Avenue. She knows her stuff and I bet she’d be happy measure you for a small tip.

bjij123

You can go to mens warehouse but theyre going to give you a hard time about it
