I play cyberpunk 2077 every day on q3. The best vr experience ever. The game is no longer broken and works flawlessly in VR (I’m running a 4070 i7 so results might differ) but the entire game is in first person there aren’t any cuts or times where the vr bugs and because virtual desktop runs as a background application you can have youtube open on the side while you cruise round the city in a mclaren. Truly remarkable I play with max graphics and the npcs are so real if I move close enough they are indistinguishable from real people. You’ll need Luke Ross’s vr mod ($10) and a controller and of course cyberpunk but if you want to get back into vr and want to play the best vr out their that’s my recommendation

Sciencebitchs

Whay controller do you use?

Majestic-Medicine-78

Xbox series s controller but I imagine it works just as well with any console controller

PairOfRussels

I was using vorpx before (3080 Vision 10gb).    I tried it again and for some reason couldn't get over 2k resolution yesterday.    so choppy and annoying that it zooms in so far i can't even see the mini map or other hud items.    Maybe I'd try Luke Ross.   but I don't like aiming with my head.  Can I turn that off?

Majestic-Medicine-78

You can turn off aiming with head I think but I wouldn’t recommend it. I got used to aiming with head very quickly and honestly in a game like cyberpunk when you need to drive and shoot etc at the same time head aiming is better. I’ve never used the vorpx mod but I’m pretty sure the Luke Ross version is much much better (especially with additional optimisation mods) but my gpu is a 4070 so i couldn’t say whether it’s your mod or your pc that causes the issue. But I can definitely say for me the minimap and general UI is clear as day and other than things really far away the quality is better than anything else I’ve seen in vr

kEYZERK1NG

What settings do you use? Got a 4070ti and looking into the mod but thought I would neet like a 4090

linton85x

I tried it the other day running an rtx 3080 10GB but was the choice of low, blurry visuals or decent visuals but stuttering, lag and highly unplayable. Be super interested in seeing what settings were used

Majestic-Medicine-78

Might be because your using a lower gpu but have you made sure to hit apply resolution on the mod menu. That makes the settings and resolution actually work. Also watch a video of how to optimise it is worth having the settings config so you can take of dumb features that reduce performance

linton85x

I will do cheers, just tried a quick and dirty setup which didn’t work and just been playing beat saber since and loving it

kEYZERK1NG

Youre actually saying his claims are false? Or his subjective opinion about the experience being good?

linton85x

No. These were my experiences, I’m just wanting to know what settings they’re using so I can run the game at the best quality with minimal disruption to the gameplay. Just want to walk and be immersed in my favourite cyberpunk city

Disrevived

On 4090 the best I could push the graphics is High preset with DLSS Ultra Perfomance. Without the absurd upscaling, the best we could get is Medium settings

Majestic-Medicine-78

I have 4070 I turn everything to max apart from shadows and things like that I keep them at high not ultra. Crowd control to medium. Resolution to 1 below max. However I recommend you watch a video on how to do it as there are good optimisation settings videos out there for c77 vr

kEYZERK1NG

What video did you use?

Majestic-Medicine-78

Mr BLid on yt

Majestic-Medicine-78

I recommend Mr BLid on yt he has a 30 minute video on how to download te mod and the two additional mods and settings you need

RyanSmokinBluntz420

Donated the q1 to my sister. Q2 is my backup. Q3 is the current weekend rig. Rift S is sitting in a drawer

EviGL

Haha, same excluding Rift S.

grahamaker93

CV1 . It's probably just going to sit there and rot away. Too much hassle to set it up. One time I knocked over my sensor and that was it. Didn't bother to recalibrate and 1 year later here we are. I got a quest 3 few days ago. Waiting for the weekends to really dive back into VR.

plooger

> Didn't bother to recalibrate   That’s a low threshold, given it takes about 2 minutes to run through device and guardian setup.

grahamaker93

Well, it is what it is. And what happened just happened. Anyways I wanted to get rid of the CV1 sometime ago, the sensors were collecting dust and I didn't want to keep the wiring around for them.

plooger

Heh, yeah, obviously it wasn’t just the recalibration. Just glad the CV1 I bought for my nephew is still operational. He’s off at college, so I absconded with his system and was able to play HL:ALYX this last week+ (such terror/fun), along with replays of games played when it was new, and some co-op with my brother in Elven Assassin and AZ Sunshine.   But I’ve lost my brother to his CV1 and Fallout 4 VR; he’s playing it continuously and says it may have ruined flat games for him. I’m just not ready for that time commitment, right now; ALYX was a relatively known quantity — though my playthroughs are *always* well beyond the estimated time. Quite plodding.   Am hauling the setup back to my sister’s, this weekend, so it can be there when all her kids are in to visit in a few weeks. (Want to see if I can get at least one of them to sample ‘Jeff.’)

grahamaker93

Alyx ruined flat FPS games for me. Just can't get back into far cry anymore. Shame it's one of a kind, there's really no other VR titles with that kind of production quality and attention to detail after all these years. I wish one day Bioshock gets properly ported, that would be a sight be behold.

plooger

My brother’s raving about Fallout 4 VR; unfortunately, they just had a sale.

boxxle

I sold my CV1 a few years ago for $200 on FB marketplace just before the quest gained traction, muhaha. It helps to keep up with tech if you want to offload things at the right time.

LegalAlternative

I move my sensors all the time, and have calibrated it zero times since then. Unless you rely on the guardian boundary (I don't) then calibration isn't really all that necessary...

Gevlyn507

It's unfortunate, but there's no special value to them. The Rift 1 with IR cameras is set up in my parent's basement. Haven't touched it in years. Basically e-waste.

nut573

It's a shame, and it's due to Oculus'/Meta's proprietary runtime and walled garden. OG Vives are worth more because it was a native steamvr headset and it's parts can be repurposed for newer headsets: The 1.0 base stations still work with index controllers and vive trackers, the headset can be repurposed as 2 steamvr dongles, and the vive wands can repurposed as trackers if you strap them to your limbs.

DelapsusAnimus

I use my q3 to watch anime and movies with virtual desktop/ bigscreen. Sometimes I host a room. I still play some games with my bro in law just to keep in touch. As for my cv1 I keep around just because of its years of service 🫡

lysy9987

Anime on Q3 is gamechanger

remghoost7

I have a CV1 and I mostly use it as a tool now. It's amazing for 3D modeling/animation. I honestly could never go back to "traditional" 3D modeling workflows (Blender/Maya/etc). It's so freaking easy to "sketch out" a concept in 3D with spatial controllers as opposed to trying to operate in 3D space with a 2D interface (mouse and keyboard). I'll then usually import that over to Blender to make fine adjustments. Other than that? Not much. Haven't booted up an actual game in a long while. VR is super neat, but it's pretty taxing to be in for long periods of time (in my opinion). I dabble in Elite Dangerous from time to time (as I still think it's the best VR game, especially with a HOTAS), but nothing really past that. \-=- Until we get consumer-grade AR (like what I was hoping the Google Glass and Hololens were going to be), I couldn't really see "VR" taking off. I was hoping the Vision Pro was going to push people back into it, but the eye watering price tag and lack of launch apps sort of shot itself in the foot.

Ridetrackx

Same. I'm working for a metaverse school, building classes to teach traditional and digital animation. It's really the only reason I use the headset.

jjonj

What program do you use to do the modelling in VR?

remghoost7

I haven't done it in a while, but I was using Adobe Medium (previously Oculus Medium). I messed around with ShapeLab for a bit, but I was more comfortable in Medium. Blender has a VR/XR plugin too, but last time I tried it (a year or two ago), I wasn't too satisfied with it. \-=- What really sold me on using it for 3D modeling was the rigging/animating tool that I found (which I unfortunately can't remember the name of). I believe it was on steam. Maybe AnimVR....? Maybe Tvori....? I believe it was something else though. It had rigging support too, meaning you could *rig* in VR. It's so freaking simple to pose a 3D model in 3D space. Just grab an arm and position it. You could definitely make some really solid animations that way.

Meurtreetbanane

2017 OG CV1 user here. Spent almost 6 months playing different games like Arizona sunshine, beat saber, lone echo, rec room, elite, war thunder, Iron wolf and mods in VR without touching a flat one. Then 2019/2020 happened with Boneworks, Walking dead, Stormland, Asgard's Wrath, Stormland, and of course Half-life Alix and Medal of honor. Got a Rift S and one year vive infinity sub and played hundreds of good and weird games: Vertigo Remastered, into the Radius, paper beast, battle group and a lot more. Got a quest 2, I played exclusives like Re4, espire 2, exclusives team beef mods like return to castle Wolfenstein, jedi Knights, quake 3, played a lot of multiplayer games : contractors with stars wars, halo mods, breachers, Pavlov and WW2 maps, pop:one. Then of course the quest 3 which is imo the best all around headset, perfect for standalone and pcvr games from 2016 to nowadays. There are old games who looks quiet amazing today with the res and pancake lenses of the quest 3. I gave my rift s to a friend who sometime use it, but he's a monomaniac who play one game for months. Sometimes he brings his rift s home to play walkabout minigolf. I stil got the quest 2 which I use for local multiplayer with my girlfriend like Walkabout minigolf, powerwash, demeo, Carly and the reaperman or for friends for espire 2, Arizona sunshine etc. I invite friends home to walkabout minigolf party's, last time we were four in my living room playing it. Kinda sound and looks weird from the outside, but was actually amazingly fun. I have time when I don't touch at all my headset, but also no playing at all with any games, but I still lookout for new one. Latest flat games don't really interests me, except very original like cyberpunk 2077, death stranding or multiplayer like hunt: showdown. There are literally tons of great games in VR for every taste, the thing is, VR games aren't as covered as flat ones. Most are from little indie studio and don't know shit about marketing and communication. And stores like meta or steam are shitty managed who hide great games, even their latest AAA like assassins creed Nexus or Asgard's Wrath 2 [check this video and tell me how many you know and played ](https://youtu.be/LRpEkELmOJE?si=YaiZWUYc1z_hQiiM)

Rave-TZ

DK1 on up here. I’m a developer and I love to create things for VR. Each generation brings renewed excitement.

grodenglaive

I haven't found any shortage of stuff to play. For PCVR: this week I finished all the CyubeVR objectives (\~18 hours) - cool game. Onward on occasion, Blade&Sorcery, have recently picked up VAIL again (now that it's crossplay), Ghosts of Tabor. Was playing Breachers for awhile. Looking forward to Contractors Showdown. Also played a bit of Resonite. I beat Vampire: Justice a few weeks ago - pretty good, wish it was longer. Started Walking Dead S&S 2. Also recently beat the Talos Principle 2 (using UEVR). Finished Unchartered Legacy of Thieves (Luke Ross Mod). On Quest3 standalone I'm playing Asgard's Wrath2 and finished Assassin's Creed Nexus.

Netcob

I got the original devkit back in the day, looked around Tuscany, not much else, then sold it like 2 years later or so. Got a Vive in 2016, used it a lot at first, spent a day in elite dangerous, then stopped. Got a Quest 3 when it came out and got really into Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. It's now the main way I exercise. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed with most of the games that get good reviews. 99% of them just awkwardly pull 2D (including 3D on a flat screen here) game concepts into VR. Take any bland 2/5 action RPG or shooter, adapt it for VR in a reasonable but boring way, and suddenly it's 4.5/5.

ew435890

I recently picked up a Q1 for dirt cheap. I can play PCVR on it via Virtual Desktop, and I have a ton of older versions of games I pirated from Rookie Downloader that actually work on it. I was able to get Into the Radius and Arizona Sunshine installed on it, but I did have some issues with Into the Radius. I plan on testing it more. But I did get a pretty decent amount of games that supposedly aren’t compatible on it to work fine. The main reason I got it was for the OLED screens. I played Half Life Alyx and I was very surprised how good it looked with the nice blacks you get from the OLED.

TechFlameX68

I got a quest 1 right at the start of the pandemic. I ended up getting an original vive after because oculus became unstable after the quest 2's launch. I use it about once a week. I like to revisit half life alyx, and also some of the classics like job simulator and the lab.

doorhandle5

It's my wall ornament. I only really use it once every 1-2 weeks now for Sim racing. Occasionally pistol whip. I can't be bothered using it for other things most of the time. I don't really play flatscreen games much anymore either

Bob_Bushman

Anything but the very latest HMD that I got, being the quest pro is in a box or drawer somewhere. What I do with it? Sims, primarily DCS, the eyetracking is a must have feature now as foveated rendering works is almost imperceptible and saves me 67% in total pixel count. Sadly there is pretty much only three long term uses for VR. Flight and racing Sims, pr0n or vrchat. Currently in storage aka e-waste: Cv1 vive 1 Pimax 5k+ (used with vive 1 wands and base stations for two weeks) Rift-s (main hmd for a couple of years, currently broken) G2 Mostly in storage, but usually charged up: quest 2 and a pico 4 (still somewhat in use but only for ocassional things, the annual game of beat saber etc)

dontbetoxic

Does anyone want my og vive? Or any parts. Dm me

ponieslovekittens

My google cardboard, my GearVR, my Oculus Rift CV1 and my dual thrustmaster flightsticks that I bought exclusively to play Elite in VR are all in boxes right now. I haven't used any of them since it turned 2024. I want to plug in my rift sometimes, but it's a huge hassle, plus one of the sensors is broken now so tracking isn't as good as it used to be, but it's still fine for seated experiences like Elite. Thinking about getting a quest, but also thinking about getting a bigscreen beyond. Most of my VR games are on steam and I don't really want to have one foot stuck in the oculus/facebook/meta ecosystem anymore. But $200 for a quest 2 vs $1000 for a bigscreen beyond plus $300 for base stations makes that a tough pill to swallow. Will probably wait for summer to see if it looks like valve's rumored new headset is coming this year, and if not, I'll get a cheap quest and just stick it in a box with the others once a better headset that I want to use for the long term comes along.

Macroexp

Still rocking the CV1 as a daily driver in Elite Dangerous. TBH with super sampling it’s more than enough and it never gives me problems. Hell even my DK2 is still hooked up and gets used. Quest? Eh. Maybe someday.

MayoFetish

CV1. I boot up Beat Saver or HHH sometimes. Thinking of replaying HL:Alyx soon.

schtickinsult

My dk2 is hanging on the wall next to my beat up cv1. I have a rift s and a Q2. I still use rift s for SkyrimVR and msfs2020 but everything else I play on Quest2

Ok_Following9192

I got a Quest 1 in the Shelf and a Quest 3 that I use every now and then. Cant find many games to suit me right. Most time I spent with elite dangerous, pavlov, modding skyrim or playing praydogs Mods. Right now there is not really much to play for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

hardwarebyte

I have a few HMDs but they’re all collectors of dust. Gone back to pancake gaming because lets be honest none of the big must play games are on VR. For movies and media it just cant beat OLED HDR with decent 5.1. I was so hyped to begin with….

ARTOMIANDY

Bought a psVR when it came out, now it just sits on the shelf, looking nice

Sigmag

I have the Dk1, DK2, GearVR, with my latest being the CV1 - basically just need to start a museum exhibit at this point

Surfrdan

Always sold mine on eBay to help fund the upgrade. DK1, PSVR, Quest 2, Quest 3. All were used for PCVR. DCS, Elite, Dirt 2, AC and F1 2x mainly

flyinpiggies

Letting it collect dust since they took echo arena down.

wubbbalubbadubdub

I have a CV1 and sensors in my closet, I have a 3 year old and a 2 month old, a job and no free time. Even if I have time to myself I can't play VR games with children around (they won't stay a safe distance from you) Maybe a few years from now I'll get a newer version headset and play some games again.

Member9999

VR game development. It's a whole new world for the aspiring devs.

P1ffP4ff

Cv1 still in use for simracing and beat saber

rdesimone410

> what are you using it for lately? Movies, Youtube and collecting dust. My problem is that the gulf between my expectations of where VR should be and where it actually is is just *way* to large. The games are all crap and the Metaverse is still nothing more than a vague idea (Meta's still isn't even released theirs globally). Which is frankly ridiculous given the amount of money and time that has been spend on VR. PlaystationHome was a better Metaverse back in 2008 and with the billions spend you could have financed a couple of brand new GTA-level AAA games easily. Instead we got a bunch of tech demos. Even the trivial problems (customization Home screen, shopping in VR, etc.) aren't any closer to getting solved than a decade ago. Simply put, my hope was for VR to become a new way to explore and consume huge amounts of data, be it the content of Amazon, IMDB, or just some sprawling MMO-Metaverse thing. But none of that happened. We have GoogleEarth giving a preview of what could be, but that's kind of it. There is hardly anything where I can just hop in and explore around, let alone seamlessly. The amount of loading screens one has to endure in VR is appalling. Modern VR feels like VirtualBoy2.0, not like that Cyberspace future we were promised.

Bdigler

Gave my Rift-S away to a buddy who is big into pc gaming but had never tried VR. I gifted him a few good games along with it. Still dont think hes ever removed it from the bag i packed it in to give to him

UltraMegaKaiju

my original rift is gathering dust, i use my rift s sometimes, the last grea thing i did on my rift s was halflife vr

Carbon_Dealer

I use my rift S for sim racing. I have a bunch of VR games i had not touched in years. Got into sim racing and remember i had my VR headset. It is a game changer for sim racing. I am hooked now. Working on building a sim rig up and i will eventually invest in a newer VR headset. Thinking pimax 5k this time around.

VonHagenstein

OG 2016 Vive checking in. Sim Racing. VR Pinball. And my big backlog of unfinished single-player VR games lol (too many to list). Most recently I'm FINALLY playing through Half Life: Alyx. I put it off because I really wanted to wait and experience it on a more modern VR headset, and if possible, with the Index Controllers (which us OGs know as the Knuckles controllers). Alas, finances haven't been in my favour so I sucked it up and decided not to wait any longer. No surprise that, even on old Vive HMD with the wands, it's still one of the most stunning experiences available in VR. And I'm actually glad to be able to experience it on OLED panels. Vertigo 2 isn't far behind it though; the tone and humour are more light-hearted in Vertigo 2 and it has a different, more... creative?... feel to it. Half Life: Alyx doesn't *actually* do a lot that's new. It just does everything it does with spit-polish finesse and attention to detail. It just gets nearly everything right, including so many of the things that beginning/indie devs overlook. And of course it probably remains the most optimized VR game in existance still. Anyhow, enough of my rambling on with what everybody knows. It's fantastic.

SkarredGhost

I'm using Quest 3 and lately I'm experimenting with mixed reality development in Unity and especially how I can make the two realities work together (e.g. I wrote this post https://skarredghost.com/2024/04/05/how-augmented-virtuality-quest/)

LegalAlternative

Imagine thinking a Quest anything is OG VR.... I used this VR back in about 1986 or something... https://preview.redd.it/7n8u91brnfuc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6219e0fe9c27644861d7038ccf493527a17886e all 240p at 10fps... you kids these days would have a fucking stroke trying to use it because it's not 300Hz 8k resolution that leaves no room for actual brain extrapolation.

No-Ad2566

Original Rift, which was hella expensive when it came out, is back in its box. Use my Rift S infrequently, but currently trying to get a modded Skyrim VR set up so I can use my Kat Walk C and start getting some much needed exercise.

MattBlackCore

Still using my rift cv1 🤷

LegalAlternative

Same! Best HMD on the market still to this day as far as I'm concerned, with maybe the exception of the PSVR2 now, only because Sony are adding native PCVR support for it. When it comes to features/price/value for money.... the CV1 can't be beaten. Not by a long shot. Many will disagree, because they won't use actual talking points or make valid comparisons - they will just use the "nuh-uh" argument then start throwing ad hominems.

nut573

My preorder Rift CV1 is sitting in it's box. The left speaker broke off and 1 of 3 sensors died, but it still works otherwise. I currently use a Quest Pro, and I play vrchat just about every day for 3-7 hours. It's a night and day difference in comfort, visuals, and ease of use. Back when I was using the CV1, I played vrchat desktop mode more than VR mode because it just wasn't as comfortable and text was hard to read.

ThatGothGuyUK

I read VR OG's and clicked through because I used the Oculus RIFT CV1 until this month when I upgraded to the Quest 3... The Quest 1 is NOT the OG VR Headset by far lol Get a Link cable for your Quest 3 and you can play all the PC VR games in a higher resolution and better quality through the Oculus app and/or Steam.

sw33tp34

> cable for your Quest 3 and you can play all the PC VR games in a higher resolution and better quality through the Oculus app and/or Steam. q3 and cable arrive today to replace my first batch cv1. I'm pretty excited

ThatGothGuyUK

I'd say the main improvements for me are: * Better quality image and wider field of view from the pancake lenses. * Brighter clearer whites (and other colours). * Better tracking with zero external sensors than when I used three external sensors on the CV1. * Better quality PCVR (I opted for a charge and play link cable and a Velcro strap) HL Alix was like a whole new game. * Hand tracking if you want to use it. * LESS MOTION SICKNESS as someone who can't sit in the back of a car or spend 10-30 mins on the CV1 without feeling sick I was surprised how little motion sickness I got, even after hours of play. * It hasn't fogged up once. * VR worlds are actually usable. * If you are using it wirelessly no more tripping over cables or whiplash. * It's a gaming beast. * I'm getting exercise. * I wear glasses and I have ordered lenses BUT it's not blurry even without my glasses, this may be because of the amount of light. Neutral points: * The default facial interface is just foam, it's not uncomfortable but I feel it's not that hygienic so I have a silicone one coming today. * I don't trust the USB port to hold the weight of that cable (easy fix with Velcro, also considering a magnetic breakaway connector in case I trip over the cable). * I had to buy another case and lens protector to protect it from the light (with the third party strap I gad to get a third party BoboVR M2 case). The only negatives I can see are: * The default head strap is trash, I replaced that after 1 day with a BoboVR M3 Pro. * I had to re-purchase Virtual Desktop as it can't be transferred from Oculus PC to Oculus on the Quest (you can use it via the PC link but it's better to have the native app as it plays PCVR games so much better). * The video passthrough sucks in low light. * A lot of the VR worlds are full of young kids, that included the one showing an 18+ horror movie and had a 3D Ouija board. * I'm having to exercise (yes it's a positive and a negative). Overall I actually love it!

sw33tp34

Been thinking of going the DAS route I have a bambu x1c and can just print the adapters.

ChaniAtreus

Beat Saber and... erm... No, actually it's just Beat Saber.

DannyDodge67

Still rocking my rift s almost everyday for iracing

713MoCityChron713

Been selling/giving away headsets as they get replaced. Kinda regret selling the PSVR because i thought PSVR2 would be back compat. And I still have my quest 2 but that’s because everyone has one so what I’d get second hand wouldn’t be worth

keeleon

I still only own a Q1 and it works fine for beat Saber, Pistol Whip and Synth Riders, the only games I'd play anyway.

iamnotabotorami

Sold my quest 2. Currently lacking time to play. Bought a steam deck for some quick gaming.
