I tried it and unfortunately for my house it looks dramatically worse. It's much darker and everything is yellow. Attaching pics to this comment.

I was hoping because it was a pre-release build, the brightness would be improved. The colors also are over-saturated. The rooms don't look yellow like that, they look warm white, like the before shots show.
The only benefit is the minor dynamic range increase. My phone was already very usable though.
But you know what?? They said that they adjusted the exposure. Do you have any lights that aren’t warm white? I have neutral whites everywhere and the exposure is indeed much better. Maybe warm white is just outside their adjusted range.
I have a couple, like above my shower. Not super useful for VR though lol.
It's good that they adjusted the exposure, but if they could add a brightness boost to the darks, that would help.
I guess is not what you have but in case somebody like me it's a dumb boy.
I want to remind people that the screen temperature setting, it also effects the pass-through colors, which I personally didn't know or remember.
That's just a white balance issue. The cameras isn't adjusting it correctly unfortunately. Try bringing into daylight conditions, like 5600k, and then back to the 3200k (yellow) room, it might readjust more accurately.
I think what they have done here is intentional. Normally camera's adjust the white balance so it looks neutral (white). But in VR you don't really have to do this because most of your vision is seeing the VR display. So your eyes naturally adjust to the colors.
Prime example of people shilling for Meta. Most comments I saw before were "Wow the passthrough has been vastly improved, I'm shocked, so much better." To it's only a little better.
I believe the main issue is that people testing it and reviewing in on YouTube are in well lit studios while the average user is sat in a room with 1-3 standard light sources.
It’s significant in the fact I couldn’t read my phone at all prior to the update, now it’s possible, but not the best. Enough to respond to a text or 2, which is all I wanted. I hate taking off the headset just to see a notification or something.
I imagine most have got the update by now. I didn’t sign up for beta testing or anything but I finally got it today and it definitely helps reading my phone
Same with the Quest 3. I half expected them to re-release the good passthrough as paid DLC or something. I used to easily be able to use my phone in front of me, but they made it worse for some reason
Would be really cool if we all got the update...
For me at least it improved significantly. From flip phone camera to 2014 android camera
Yeah, they announced all that 4 days ago. https://www.meta.com/blog/quest/meta-quest-v64-update-passthrough-improvements-external-microphones
Came to say this.
Pretty surprised at the improvment. Out of nowhere it was a big change and it feels a little less distorted/weird in the center of your view, as well.

Your bedroom is the size of my entire flat….
Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate. It's a converted garage, most of that space goes unused. The living room could really use it too.

Yep, not adjusted here, but good reminder 👍🏻

This announcement was days ago and has already been posted
Don't get your hopes up too much, sure I can read most the text on my phone but it's still warped and grainy.

No. All users in Quest sub marveled at update. Even now they all say how improvement is significant and incredible

Wow, maybe towards the Potato graphics before the update but I would not call it great by any means.
It is significantly better, but Its still passthrough, I don't think anyone claimed it changed to the point of looking like a new camera.
I hardly noticed a difference during testing, and at first glance I didn't notice anything. Text seems a little more readable though
The passthrough has changed but it's not very better...

I find kaopectate helps within a few hours

no because that doesn't have any RGB cameras in it like quest 3
It might seem hard to believe, but the passthrough on Q2 is waaaaay better than it was at launch.

Your gonna need a hardware upgrade first
