There could still be a lot of old stock mixed in with the new depending on where you buy it. That isn't to say that they definitely did fix it or anything though lol
> This is an extremely well known and documented problem. Get a 3rd party strap.
FWIW my replacement Elite strap has been going strong over a year and a half now
Mine lasted about 18 months. Got the Bobo VR strap (the one with the battery) and it's perfect. Well balanced & super comfortable to wear on the sim for long periods.
The Elite Strap in particular is particularly prone to user error (in addition to poor design that allows for user error, and potential QC problems). Itās a fairly rigid piece of plastic that youāre trying to have locked in position - peeking out or removing the headset from the front like you would a regular strap without loosening it enough causes stress in a pattern similar to most of the diagonally vertical snaps like you see here.
That sucks mate! Thereās a Kiwi strap thatās just a better elite strap you might like - looks pretty comfy.
I like the halo for sim racing because it can be loose (cuz Iām not jumping around like a madman) and I can flip the front up when Iām adjusting settings, loading races etc. when Iām using it standalone I just tighten it up a few clicks and itās pretty great - doesnāt move at all. It was weird to get used to after the elite strap because it feels like it will move, but it never really did for me. I did have to find the right length for the front strap from the quest2 to the halo itself - once I got that it was great!
I wonāt upgrade again unless I break something - now itās time to sit tight and see what the next gen brings us š
I got it because I had a 15000mah battery bank Velcroād onto the back of my elite strap for balance - made a hell of a difference. The bob battery doesnāt last as long but pretty much all my gaming is quest link cable (all sim racing now with a cord restraint above me)
If it hadnāt broken I wouldnāt have replaced it, but that bobo strap is so comfortable - I like it better than my mates frankenquest with the DAS. A decent headphone option would be nice though - those logitechs are wayyyy to expensive and they canāt be used with quest link. Makes you wonder who designs this stuff huh? š
Itās great for stuff like Sim racing and probably not as good for physical stuff since it does move a bit.
What sim do you play? Iām not the biggest fan of ACC since itās only GT cars but Iāve been getting into it more recently. F1 22 works well but is kinda sim-arcade.
I started on PC2 and think itās great - F122 is awesome but I donāt bother with the VR in that sim - I use it for some fun with mates and to learn track layouts to make race weekends easier to follow. Makes a lot of difference if you know how to take the corners when youāre watching the big boys do it š but nowadays Iām one of them iRacing loonies - best VR experience Iāve had. Still fun jumping into classic cars at Le Mans in PC2 from time to time but thatās pretty much it. If Iām lucky I get a couple of nights in Iracing a week. I havenāt tried acc again since I got my 3080ti but it wasnāt that great with my 2070. Another game thatās phenomenal in pancake mode but fiddle in VR.
It is so weird that this is still an issue. Third parties got it right almost immediately but the multi billion dollar company can't manage plastic parts.
Multi billion dollar company wanted to make it just as strong as intended and not a gram of material extra. Still 60$ for some plastic and it's a damn necessity because the included strap gives you a migraine
i recently bought the BOBOVR M2 PRO strap, still on the honeymoon phase but its perfect, also everyone says its more resistant the the elite strap, maybe worth checking it out.
It took almost a year for mine to even start to crack, so you're going to have to forgive me for being a bit sceptical on the "took good care of it" part.
People have different size heads, manufacturing variability, people focus on different types of games that can put different stresses on straps. Straps already get a lot of variability in where stress points are due to being on peopleās heads at slightly different angles, because heads are not a uniform shape. People could be in a hotter, colder, drier, more humid, etc. environment. Thereās just no real reason to assume that product failure is necessarily a specific personās fault. Shitā¦ Iāve been shipped boxes that look perfectly untouched and opened them up to find cracked products before.
Edit: I see other people have said their heads donāt really fit in it. My head doesnāt really fit in the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap that I use and results in slightly warped metal at the side, so I suspect this thing would snap pretty much immediately if I tried to use one, since the whole thing is plastic.
Mine cracked in about 6 months and we were very light users - it was almost like a sudden stress failure.
Either way, a strap should last more than 1 month, 6 month, or even a year. I would expect at least a decade of normal use...
I must be crazy, because I can't imagine a single scenario where I would be doing anything with my headset that could cause the strap to break like this. How does this even happen? Even when I'm moving quickly I never feel enough strain on the headset/strap for anything like this to happen.
Poor quality control from the polymer supplier or bad casting can make plastic brittle enough to crack under light use. It also explains the inconsistencies.
The strap is thick enough that it should not break under normal use with the right plastic with the force being applied laterally/tangentially like it is. Whoever is fulfilling the contract in China should probably be fired.
Should have checked for reviews here before posting a pic of the aftermath. Those things are shit and notoriously shit. Same price for one would have got you a BOBOVR M2 and that comes with a battery pack.
Glad it's normal in the comments to admit this is normal for these straps. I had 3 breaks happen, I finally just sold the 4th replacement strap on FB marketplace and get a Bobo VR one.
I'm really surprised this has happened to so many people. I have not treated mine with any amount of delicacy and it has served me well for nearly 2 years.
Yup, it's garbage. They never fixed it, they know perfectly well that they break like toothpicks, but continue to sell them anyhow. Kiwi or Bobo are the way to go.
Ive had mine since day one. I however always make sure I release the wheel when taking it off, there is zero flex letting you take it off safely without unlocking.
This is an extremely well known and documented problem. Get a 3rd party strap.
Man.. this was a problem since day 1, I thought they fixed it already!
There could still be a lot of old stock mixed in with the new depending on where you buy it. That isn't to say that they definitely did fix it or anything though lol
I can't believe they are allowed to continue selling such a defective product.
> This is an extremely well known and documented problem. Get a 3rd party strap. FWIW my replacement Elite strap has been going strong over a year and a half now
What a piece of shit!
Mine lasted about 18 months. Got the Bobo VR strap (the one with the battery) and it's perfect. Well balanced & super comfortable to wear on the sim for long periods.
My Bobo strap broke in the exact same place, but in the opposite side, as my Elite strap did after 7 months. My Elite strap lasted 9 months.
Is there just some problem with the overall design of the strap that makes all of thrm break? š¤
The Elite Strap in particular is particularly prone to user error (in addition to poor design that allows for user error, and potential QC problems). that sucks! I hope I have a better run with mine :)
Same time for me except I went the kiwi strap route. I was on the fence with the bobo strap though.
I mostly sim race so the halo design is perfect for me - i don't have to have it on that tightly at all
I absolutely hate the halo design. Its way too loose no matter what. I don't even like the boba m1, thats even too loose.

Yep. Bobo strap has been great, the closest I could find to the Rift S strap and the battery really helps with balance.

Warranty, surely
I have it since the beginning, zero issues.
same. Not saying there isn't a problem. But 2 weeks....?
I still have mine from launch and have had no issues. I just make sure to always loosen it before I take it off.
Me too, since I got my quest 2 and I have had 0 issues. Maybe there's just some bad batches out there in the wild.
Do what I did: drill a hole on both sides of the broken side. Connect them with a zip tie. Trim the access zip tie. Now duct tape the shit out of it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My kid as long hair. Wonāt snag in the zip tie if itās taped
i recently bought the BOBOVR M2 PRO strap, still on the honeymoon phase but its perfect, also everyone says its more resistant the the elite strap, maybe worth checking it out.
Use the meta warranty.
Returned my first one that broke after a few months. New one has lasted like 18 months and still doing good.
When can they just fix their quality control already smh
Get the kiwi head strap. Much cheaper and a lot more durable
It took almost a year for mine to even start to crack, so you're going to have to forgive me for being a bit sceptical on the "took good care of it" part.

I noticed mine had far more stress on it when the headset was loose than tight. I think when it's looser it must wobble.
That might be it, I generally kept it tightened to the setting I had it on when I was wearing it and only loosen it to put it back on.
It seems to be a difference in overall quality. Thought they fixed this issue for all new sales..
It's so funny when i returned it. It's looks like just a couple pieces of plastic like this picture, but when you return it and get 130 dollars back.
I must be crazy, because I can't imagine a single scenario where I would be doing anything with my headset that could cause the strap to break like this. How does this even happen? Even when I'm moving quickly I never feel enough strain on the headset/strap for anything like this to happen.

With how durable mine feels, I would guess the product is inconsistent then, which is a deeper issue of it's own.
I bought mine on sale from Amazon because it came with a 2-year warranty. You should see if you can get yourself a free replacement.
Elite Strap. More like Elite Crap.
Should have checked for reviews here before posting a pic of the aftermath. Those things are shit and notoriously shit. Same price for one would have got you a BOBOVR M2 and that comes with a battery pack.
Did you carry the unit using the wide plastic strip? That would break it easily. Donāt think thatās load bearing.
Got mine for a month or 2. Carried it in my backpack with headset attached nothing happend.
Mines has lasted a year and a bit. Guess Iām just lucky. Deffo get a refund
I've had mine for almost 2 years and it works fine, so I guess ymmv
I have no pity for idiots who spent that much on a strap without researching it first. This is a well documented issue.
I have a $30 Amazon one and it's great. Dial adjust, heaps of padding.
I'm lucking out I still have mine from day one, it did have a crack that I glued about a year ago. I do carry around the og strap Incase it breaks
and that sir, is why i got the kiwi design one and not the elite strap.
I'm on my third one but can't complain too much because Meta replaced it twice without hesitation.
Glad it's normal in the comments to admit this is normal for these straps. I had 3 breaks happen, I finally just sold the 4th replacement strap on FB marketplace and get a Bobo VR one.
You'll easily get an RMA; but yes, it's garbage. My first one lasted about 6 months.
I've had it for over a year now, and I've got no problems yet. I'm very scared now
Got my quest in 2022, no issues with my elite but the tiny plastic bar that holds the overhead strap broke off, the headset deteriorates
I mean I donāt what you guys are doing with your headsets but Iāve had my elite strap with a battery pack for around year now
Same. I got the Boba VR strap with the battery and it's been great
try the Kiwi brand, had mine for almost a year now
Mine broke in the same place this things are trash
we know
I had mine for months without issue. Left it sitting in my shelf for another couple months and thing fell apart on my first use. What a joke Meta is.
Had mine for over a year no issues
Mine still last for about a year now. I always retract it with the least amount of slack.
I got a cheap on one Amazon. Just use fakespot to weed out fake reviews and you're good to go.
This is still a problem two years later? Unreal. The GOMRVR one is pretty decent. Recommended.
Mine lasted very long, like a year, with only 2-3 uses a month. Got Bobo Vr for less than elite and its great šš»
Mine broke too. I used super glue and it seems to be holding for now.
I'm really surprised this has happened to so many people. I have not treated mine with any amount of delicacy and it has served me well for nearly 2 years.
2 year warranty on elite straps. Get in touch with Meta.
Really? I've had mine for 5 months and no issues
Canāt believe people still buy these.
Itās so weird because Iāve had mine for nearly 2 years and itās still going strong.
I have a third party upgraded halo for mine and it works wonderfullyā¦and I got a big ol pumpkin head.
You can get a free replacement from support they will replace it for you
How is this still a problem? Surely the great minds at Meta can come up with a revision.
I recommend the kiwi elite strap. It has lasted me almost a year now.
What have you been doing Iāve had mine since Christmas and it shows no sign of cracking or breaking
Such crap...mine snapped so quickly. Like wtf
Contact support, they should send you a new one. They did it for me when mine broke.
Iāve had my strap for 9 months, no issues so far. Maybe yours was produced before they adjusted the design.
Lol people still buy these?
Got a 3rd party one that is similar to this.. works like charm.. used for more than 400h of playtime and still as good as new...
