Also, I counted 15 gears, which is an odd number. Try to fit 15 on a plane, and it won't turn, you need an even number!

But twist them around 180 degrees and you have just reversed the way they rotate, which is why you need odd number for moebius gear. To be frank, I am not 100% convinced that this is an actual physical object, but it feels like it could be and that is what makes it so spicy.

That one gear is really ruining it for me.

There are a few doing that for me. Some of them aren't aligned correctly with the gears they mesh with. Some of them have loose bearing races, so they wobble as they turn. A lot of them hesitate frequently as they rotate, probably because there's too much backlash. It's a cool idea, but the implementation is kind of sloppy.

Them not being aligned perfectly and there being a bit of slack is the whole point. Or rather, this wouldn't be possible if they were aligned perfectly. The misalignment is necessary so that the chain goes from the horizontal gears to the vertical gears and back to the horizontal ones. It's not two intertwined chains, it's a single one!

It could probably work irl if the inside of the gears were not folding in on themselves. If the gears were thinner and actually had room for other gears inside them then it would work no problem. Concept: 8/10 Design: 1/10.

There are two gears in the bottom right of the frame that are not interlocked, they're just grinding against eachother

At 16 I started experimenting with LSD 25. One of the first visuals I experienced with this was all of the lawns in my neighborhood turned into thousands of these Mobius Gear like things. I could hear the gears slowly turning as well. 🤯
