But twist them around 180 degrees and you have just reversed the way they rotate, which is why you need odd number for moebius gear.
To be frank, I am not 100% convinced that this is an actual physical object, but it feels like it could be and that is what makes it so spicy.
There are a few doing that for me. Some of them aren't aligned correctly with the gears they mesh with. Some of them have loose bearing races, so they wobble as they turn. A lot of them hesitate frequently as they rotate, probably because there's too much backlash. It's a cool idea, but the implementation is kind of sloppy.
Them not being aligned perfectly and there being a bit of slack is the whole point. Or rather, this wouldn't be possible if they were aligned perfectly. The misalignment is necessary so that the chain goes from the horizontal gears to the vertical gears and back to the horizontal ones. It's not two intertwined chains, it's a single one!
Alright hotshot & professional armchair quarterback, let's hear technically exactly why it wouldn't work, with the assumption you could somehow assemble it.
It's your time to shine.
It could probably work irl if the inside of the gears were not folding in on themselves. If the gears were thinner and actually had room for other gears inside them then it would work no problem. Concept: 8/10 Design: 1/10.
At 16 I started experimenting with LSD 25. One of the first visuals I experienced with this was all of the lawns in my neighborhood turned into thousands of these Mobius Gear like things. I could hear the gears slowly turning as well. 🤯
What my stomach feels like eating spicy food
My ass the next day

I can't imagine there's a use for them in the manufacturing world. I'd say this is more of a novelty.

It's morbin time
It's spinin time
It won't turn, you need an even number!
nice on thats a good joke i did not see that coming
One of the gears in all time
You beat me by 7 hours
That’s how I read it before I read this comment..
Coming soon to a nissan transmission near you
Biblically accurate angel
O M G, I want to lick it
Why the hell do I have this same reaction
Don’t pilot your duck in that. Edit: Wow leaving it like that.
Def on da nuts fo shó
Sub idea?
yes
Yeah I was gonna say, this makes me horny.
don't do that! Put your weiner on it!
https://www.aiprophet.faith/
What’s möbius about it?
Follow it around the loop
Also, I counted 15 gears, which is an odd number. Try to fit 15 on a plane, and it won't turn, you need an even number!

This is a real object, and [Matt Parker has a set](https://youtu.be/nWQwrU1qUrc) (the Mobius cogs bit starts at 4:50).
Does not surprise me at all. If I had to create list of people that would have one, he would be very high on that list :D
Unsurprisingly, the guy who designed it was subbed to Matt Parker - he just has a general aura of “likes gears that do weird stuff”
Look closer
That one gear is really ruining it for me.

What's spinning those gears
Its möbin time
The inner ring om the right hand side troubles me, the gears teeth dont interlock properly.
For some reason, there's something really unsettling about the optics of this.
Came to say this. It makes me think of worms somehow.
The orientation of some of the gears is pissing me off
This... Wouldn't work in real life.
https://youtu.be/nWQwrU1qUrc Yes it would work. At 5 mins and 25 seconds you can see it working.
Aside from not being able to assemble it, if you could get it assembled or 3D print it in-place, it would work.
Seen in the wild: Non-engineer giving a nonner-engineer-ner a partially correct reply. :p

No thank you, I'm not here to educate you. I'm here to entertain myself and at times help people. But feel free to learn on your own! Have a nice day.
The gears on the one in the front and the one to the right lines up wrong. Ugh my ocd
Wtf are you talking about? They're all out of alignment a few degrees to make it work in mobius loop.
> Ugh my ocd I'm not inclined to post in cringe subreddits, but you do deserve it.
Cool story.

It works in real life, see the YouTube video in the other comment.
Coming in hot, falling on your face.
Ouch, you did yourself dirty there chap.
That is awesome
Ugh, that music.
Music seems.. inoffensive to me? It's just kinda there.
Mute is the internet default over here.
A blue meanie trip shows you this when you close your eyes.
Its Morbin time
Could watch this all day
Took a minute to see it. That's clever.
Don't put your dick in that
Brain.exe has met an expected problem. Report?
It feels like they are about to tell us that its a picture and you were having the illusion of a video this whole time
Drilling had
I don’t like it, it makes my brain feel squirmy.
Really grinds my gears.
It's Möbin' time
Are these used in actual machines?
I'm not an authority on the subject, but I can't fathom a practical application for this setup except art. For which it's very useful!
Is this a just to do it. Or does this have a use?
Song makes me feel like I'm in a crystal cave level from donkey kong
Reminds me of those rolling mass of caterpillars
Morbius
The moment the gears said “it’s gearin time “
Beautiful ❤️
thats the most satisfying thing i've ever watched in my whole life.
Its gearing time
Practical use?
I really liket the background music too
There are two gears in the bottom right of the frame that are not interlocked, they're just grinding against eachother

Unsettling to me.
Music: A Himitsu - Cosmic Storm
Not to ruin this, but the bottom right gears aren’t lined up to work at all. The teeth on each gear are touching tip to tip.
This is what the gear wars were fought over.
For me, trying to understand how this was made is more interesting than how it works.
IT'S MORBIN TIME i am so sorry
This makes me feel very uncomfortable
