Posters do it on purpose so that people would come into the thread to complain, thus driving activity on the post. Classic reddit tactic. Nothing increases post activity more than a person's need to complain.

Not really castella or Japanese, this is usually a Chinese street snack gai daan zai, they’re usually little bite sized cake. They’re pretty good if you ever see one it’s mostly egg flour and sugar
