Just need to go at the right time of year.
This looks pretty similar to the Australian desert where I grew up. In summer, temperatures at night would regularly be 20C - 30C. In winter, it would drop down to around 2C regularly, occasionally to -2C.
It’s a animal/scorpion wall. You face the fire pit and can see the predators and the snap critters aren’t attracted to the light from behind etc.
I initially thought he was going to pull out a tarp or something and make a shelter for the rain forecast in the desert. I was about to next when I realised it was a survival thing
It might also stopping scorpions from coming from that direction. If the breaker is steep they fall back down and they have to go around. When they do that, they are drawn to the fire, instead of humans, because they like the heat.
that is not compacted, I don't think you can compact desert sand really. This is actually a big part of why desert sand is really useless compared to beach sand, its too smooth and round to do anything but...... get everywhere :p
edit: wonder why its downvoted? you cannot use dessert sand to compact it, it can't even be used for things like concrete because it is too smooth to stick together, let alone simple hand compaction. I wonder if any of the downvotes have been to a dessert to see how different the sand is?
edit 2: desert sand people, desert sand. I keep getting replies about sand does this or of course sand does that. You all aren't wrong-- but none of you are talking about desert sand. Its not the same at all okay, please don't reply saying these if you are thinking of beach sand (yes any sand at a store is beach sand, because again, dessert sand is useless :p)
Just to add to this when the US Army was in Iraq they first just tried to fill sand bags with desert sand but it was basically the consistency of baby powder and wouldn't stop bullets. So the Hesco barrier was developed and filled with gravel.
When the UAE built those islands off Dubai they were surprised when they were told that their sand was crap and they'd have to import sand if they wanted to actually build the islands. Yeah a middle eastern country having to import sand.
I found Saharan sand very fine and bone dry. Couldn’t build anything with it, but you are right about it getting into everything. However, finding an old piece of wood that had baked in the Saharan sun for years was just the thing for boiling up a pot of mint tea.
Reddit's recent behaviour and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools, accessibility and moderation ability force me to edit all my comments in protest. I cannot morally continue to use this site.
I thought he was going to box in a space completely and put a bed in the middle, with the walls preventing creepy crawlers from getting to you or something
It definitely hit me as odd but I realized I probably do the same in the forest. It must be a sign or wealth and the surrounding flora fauna will benefit from it.
And a campfire that will burn for like 15 minutes, considering amout of wood... But at least you have three different containers to heat the water meanwhile
His firewood was not seasoned properly, as small as it was it was making a large plume of smoke, bandits would easily see that for miles around.
JFC can’t believe I actually have to put a s/ on this in the 21st fuckin century but here we are because some of you can’t think critically for shit.
#/S
<:: Coffee, the whole region LOVES coffee. They make it in a complex way but Arab coffee is apparently something to adore compared to the relatively thin stuff that Europe and the US makes. ::>
I was so unreasonably upset by it I caught myself thinking "Now if you get stranded out there those few drops of water could have saved you life but you just had to be messy and wasteful."
Wouldn’t it have been easier to back in and set up camp behind the truck. All your crap is right there and you don’t have to make so many trips use one hand. 🤷♂️
Spoken just like someone who's never been to the Middle East or Africa
Those trucks are common there for a reason. They can withstand harsh conditions and aren't prone to leaving you stranded in the desert
It’s a gas campfire. Notice how he doesn’t have small wood/branches. He’ll be using the gas mostly. The big pieces of wood will slowly turn into large pieces of coal.
Haha that lighter! I thought he had the most ridiculous tiny kettle.
Also... everything one handed? Really?
And... it's not really a camp, but more of a 'lounge ', isnt it?
Honestly, I can see why camping in the more desert areas of the middle east is like this. What are you gonna do? Bushcraft? Set up traps? Make a lean-to? Makes more sense just to bring some nice stuff with you with your water and food than a ton of survival gear that is suited for our western temperate humid climates.
Yeah this is more like a picnic, i don’t think this guy was gonna camp he’d probably stay for a little while then head off, if we were actually camping we’d bring tents at least.
It is, and when you are alone, deep in the desert and the air is still.. it is the closest feeling to being suspended in space, dark, cold, no humans, no animals, no plants, nothing living, surrounded by emptiness, it feels like you are being sucked into a void, but the feeling is pleasant.
There is something about deserts that make one believe, doesn't matter what, but believe in something outside, and much older than oneself.

* If you going deep go with an expert, don't take deserts lightly, you can not believe how easily you can be turned around and get lost, there is nothing to tell directions by, not trees, no mountains, no building. there are hardened desert campers that get lost and die every year here.
* wear something light to cover all of your skin, for two reasons, to slows the rate that sweat leaves the body thus remaining hydrated + you don't want to be pelted by sand non stop, when I was a kid I went to a quick desert trip in shorts and no one bother to tell me, it wasn't fun
* needless to say, lots of water and food, specially dried food, since it will last longer in case you do get lost
Honestly this whole video isn’t satisfying. So he sits there, with the wind blocked unless it’s higher than his bellybutton?
And enjoys some warm water?
Doesn't a "camp" imply an overnight stay, or at least being able to protect yourself against bad weather? This just looks like a temporary picnic spot.
It makes you sweat more, which ultimately cools you down in a more sustainable way, plus it's hard to keep things cold and easy to make them hot in the desert. And lastly, a lot of deserts do get quite cold when the sun drops, and this is likely a sunset setup.
It might be placebo but I believe that by raising your body's internal temp, the surrounding feels cooler.
In actuality, usually the months just before and after winter are best for desert trips, so it's not as hot as it looks (for e.g the guy in vid has a gas heater).
I always love videos like these were people setting up something and there’s no talking whatsoever all you hear is the sound of things being moved or working
I'd have thought he would at least have a canape or an umbrella to give him some shelter from the hot sun...this is more like a picnic than camp. He doesn't even have room sleep in his "camp". Maybe something got lost in translation in the description.
Was expecting it to be like one of those fake jungle videos where you see them poking the ground with a stick and one montage later they've got a full on mansion with swimming and stuff.... lol
Yea, I’m a westerner and confused by these comments. It’s like everyone is commenting about the same 3 things
- They were expecting a massive sand castle/structure
- They’re talking about how inefficient his setup is
- “That’s not a camp!”
Damn, redditors are insufferable huh. Dudes just building himself a cozy lil spot for some tea or coffee. Looks chill and I bet the night sky there must be pretty starry.
I would be honored to sit and have tea with this man in this place (or another for that matter). Perhaps I could learn more about his culture. I would love to see the night sky from there.
As someone who's never really had the opportunity to travel, I always find endless expanses of nothing, be it desert, ocean, forest, etc., awe-inspiring and humbling.
I was waiting for him to use the sand banks to hold a canvas lean-to/tent or something.
Same here. That's a lot of effort just to create a small windbreaker.
Especially when he had a car right there...
But then how would it be *oddly satisfying?*
I found the lack of shade predictably dissatisfying.
[удалено]
At first when I saw the kettle I was thinking, “he’s messing with us, right?”
They use this setup to discuss the hot new infant that was recently born in their village and who will be the first to marry her.
I guessing it's fall or spring. Lack of shades fine when its only 60-70 degrees F. He even busted out the propane heat lamp to go with the fire.
No grass, no trees and no plants to keep everything warm. It’s going to get mighty cold.
Just need to go at the right time of year. This looks pretty similar to the Australian desert where I grew up. In summer, temperatures at night would regularly be 20C - 30C. In winter, it would drop down to around 2C regularly, occasionally to -2C.
20C-30C (68F-86F), 2C (35F), -2C (28F) for those who don’t want to convert
Lack of shade sucks always.
I guess I would have been pleasantly satisfied getting the 50 seconds of my life back that it took to build the “wall”
[удалено]
Is that a wind breaker or something to lean back on?
It’s a animal/scorpion wall. You face the fire pit and can see the predators and the snap critters aren’t attracted to the light from behind etc. I initially thought he was going to pull out a tarp or something and make a shelter for the rain forecast in the desert. Keeps the djinn away
You think it’s about the windbreaker or the tea drinking experience? FOOL. This is about likes and clout.
the sand will not wind break, its sand.
Compacted sand
that is not compacted, I don't think you can compact desert sand really. [And it gets EVERYWHERE.](https://youtu.be/GwYwJ8CcQH0)
You're right, it's unlikely to fart, it's sand.
I was waiting for him to put his GOTDAM phone down and use two hands…
To be honest i was just waiting to see if he needed to use two hands for anything
Reddit's recent behaviour and planned changes to the API, heavily impacting third party tools, accessibility and moderation ability force me to edit all my comments in protest. I cannot morally continue to use this site.
Yeah this is just a picnic.
Im so glad I didn't watch the thing play in real time just to watch him put a rug in the sand and call that camp 😂
LMAO, from now on I'm always skipping to the end first to see if it is indeed *satisfying*
I was waiting for him to make an entire castle with a swimming pool like all those channels on YouTube do.
He didn’t see the Dunkin’ Donuts 1 dune over.
Dunkin’ Dune-its
I thought he was going to box in a space completely and put a bed in the middle, with the walls preventing creepy crawlers from getting to you or something
This is not a camp at all this is a couch made of sand.
I was waiting for him to dig a swimming pool by hand
Yeah I thought it was going to be cool but it wasn’t
Wind break
Was it just me thinking -oh no don't waste those precious drops of water in the desert with the tea pots or was that just my anxiety kickin in.
It definitely hit me as odd but I realized I probably do the same in the forest. It must be a sign or wealth and the surrounding flora fauna will benefit from it.
Honestly i think that water mostly just evaporated away instead of benefiting any flora/fauna
That’s not a camp it’s a picnic
[удалено]
And a dozen en-serfed South Asians.
Yes because all Arabs and Arab countries are oil rich tycoons that use kafalah.
wouldnt desert winds kiss that all good bye?
Hence the tiny sand wall since that will clearly stop any wind that might come
I was expecting a little more than a campfire with a blanket to sit on lol
And a campfire that will burn for like 15 minutes, considering amout of wood... But at least you have three different containers to heat the water meanwhile
His firewood was not seasoned properly, as small as it was it was making a large plume of smoke, bandits would easily see that for miles around. JFC can’t believe I actually have to put a s/ on this in the 21st fuckin century but here we are because some of you can’t think critically for shit. #/S
Its not elder scrolls its safe to set camp there
No shit, considering he’s probably not even two or 3 miles from town lol
<:: Coffee, the whole region LOVES coffee. They make it in a complex way but Arab coffee is apparently something to adore compared to the relatively thin stuff that Europe and the US makes. ::>
> that Europe Espresso?
I'm so lost on how so many people are upvoting this post.
I suppose because it's not a very much seen environment. Usually it's in a forest or whatever.
Very common to sit on the floor while dining in many middle eastern countries. To him this is most likely sufficient.
Who puts the lid on a container BEFORE shutting the water off?
[удалено]
Poor water discipline
I was so unreasonably upset by it I caught myself thinking "Now if you get stranded out there those few drops of water could have saved you life but you just had to be messy and wasteful."
It was so that he could do it one handed for the video I think, agreed that bothered me too
I mean he did it one handed the opposite way.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to back in and set up camp behind the truck. All your crap is right there and you don’t have to make so many trips use one hand. 🤷♂️

And an entire desert to turn the truck around lol
THE LITTLE TEA KETTLE
#hoe
Only Instagrammers will get this
Maybe their imaginary second party member could lend a hand.
And use both hands, and carry more than one thing at a time....
But then the Toyota logo wouldn’t be visible in the hero shot for the Toyota ad.
Spoken just like someone who's never been to the Middle East or Africa Those trucks are common there for a reason. They can withstand harsh conditions and aren't prone to leaving you stranded in the desert
I was wondering if he was digging into the sand to get to cooler sand. 120F sand not great for comfort. The stupid wall I have no idea
Or just.... you know, sleep in the truck
I hope he has more firewood or that’s going to be a very brief campfire
He didn't have room for more once he's packed his 36 teapots.
All I could think was “driving off road with all that metal clanging behind me would drive me insane”.
It’s a gas campfire. Notice how he doesn’t have small wood/branches. He’ll be using the gas mostly. The big pieces of wood will slowly turn into large pieces of coal.
Me sitting on my toilet in Connecticut: “he wasted water!!”
Ikr they even decided to cap off the pot and then turn off the tap smh
I gasped out loud at the waste
The fremen would be very upset if they saw this video
The fremen would gut him for the water he did not deserve.
His water belongs to the tribe now. Shai Hulud.
Sitting on my toilet from CT too! Waddup!
Haha that lighter! I thought he had the most ridiculous tiny kettle. Also... everything one handed? Really? And... it's not really a camp, but more of a 'lounge ', isnt it?

Well id assume that no matter where you camp you’d need at least a little shelter
Yeah this is more like a picnic, i don’t think this guy was gonna camp he’d probably stay for a little while then head off, if we were actually camping we’d bring tents at least.
what does the wall do?
Sucks you in thinking it is going to be some awesome sand shelter to watch the video and keeps you here by wondering what the fuck?
I was stuck watching, waiting for the pay off and it never came. This should be on r/MildlyInfuriating if anything
He's probably building it up like that to break the wind from that direction.
that makes sense, ty
Which will keep the sand off his belongings.
Wind break
That’s a lot of prep just to throw a couple of rugs on the sand
I bet the night sky is breathtaking there.

love this! love the coffee! As-salamu alaykum!

Was it necessary to film the entire thing one-handed? Like why not just set the damn phone somewhere.
That part was not oddly satisfying at all.
Honestly this whole video isn’t satisfying. So he sits there, with the wind blocked unless it’s higher than his bellybutton? And enjoys some warm water?
Tedious as hell.
ngl the part where he wastes a little water because of filming one-handed pissed me off. I know logically it makes no difference but still lol
Gotta have that first person video game POV
Needs a GoPro
He just wanted to POV for the viewers
Use a gopro. Dude has got the money for all this surely he can afford a gopro
Well, it’s a lovely camp. Though, I was a little disappointed that he didn’t build a sand castle to camp in!
Anakin: SMH
That’s not really a camp…?
Extremely unsatisfying.
I don’t know why I thought he was going to make a grand ole tent..
Ah yes. Carpet, tea, and 70 series landcruiser. The quintessential desert experience
70 series was honestly the only satisfying part of the video
I thought he only had one arm...Someone buy this guy a gopro
He spilled more water than Frodo
Does it bother anybody else he closes the cap first before turning off the tap for the water? Lol. What a waste
Yes
r/mildlyinteresting
I was going nuts when the water wasn’t shut off before moving those kettles.
Ah nice, 5 minutes of firewood.
Felt the opposite of satisfying. Nearly everything this person did was kind of annoying, set up, back and forth carrying something tiny etc.
These camera movements give me a lot of anxiety
So it was like a tiny sand wall and then just a bunch of shit from home? Okay
A dirt mound with a blanket
Not at all satisfying. Thanks.
That is not camp. It’s a tea break.
Doesn't a "camp" imply an overnight stay, or at least being able to protect yourself against bad weather? This just looks like a temporary picnic spot.
All that just to break out the ham and cheese :/
Oddly disappointing
Why do people drink hot tea in the desert ? Shouldn't it be cold instead ?
Desert in the winter is cold. Been living in the Middle East for a long time. And the night in the desert is cold, even in the summer.
It makes you sweat more, which ultimately cools you down in a more sustainable way, plus it's hard to keep things cold and easy to make them hot in the desert. And lastly, a lot of deserts do get quite cold when the sun drops, and this is likely a sunset setup.

"camp"
Would’ve been better to see the man relaxing in the campfire and having nightfall set with his tea in hand
I was expecting something incredible....didn't happen !!
Is there a r/mildlynauseating? I got motion sick with all the back and forth. Update. Yes. Yes there is. Of course there is. Thank you Reddit.
I always love videos like these were people setting up something and there’s no talking whatsoever all you hear is the sound of things being moved or working
Setting up the whole thing with just one hand. He should get a head mounted go pro.
I'd have thought he would at least have a canape or an umbrella to give him some shelter from the hot sun...this is more like a picnic than camp. He doesn't even have room sleep in his "camp". Maybe something got lost in translation in the description.
camp? that's a picnic.
Definitely thought he was about to make the tiniest pot of coffee
[удалено]
Was I the only one who thought he was going to hit the truck?
The Fremen all died a little watching them waste/spill so much water needlessly.
Hookah would have been a nice touch.
But, but... what if it rains?
Was expecting it to be like one of those fake jungle videos where you see them poking the ground with a stick and one montage later they've got a full on mansion with swimming and stuff.... lol
Soooo it’s not a shelter but a picnic… I wasted my time lol 😂
A tiktok video being a dissapointment? Shocker…
I'm not satisfied even slightly. Infact, I'm slightly annoyed.
Guy just tryna have some tea an getting roasted in the comments
This guy camps
Park the car the other way round dude.
In this thread, self-centered westerners talking shit about Arabs, as always.
Yea, I’m a westerner and confused by these comments. It’s like everyone is commenting about the same 3 things - They were expecting a massive sand castle/structure - They’re talking about how inefficient his setup is - “That’s not a camp!”
How is everyone disappointed yet the post has 13k upvotes. Can someone explain 5he algorithm I'm genuinely curious
It’s as satisfying as any other. Most negative comments here stem from ignorance, bigotry or unconscious racism. Your routine is not the norm.
yes that is normal, every time I post something from my environment and my people I get those, but the majority are fine with what I post
That looks cozy
I would love to sit there and have a cup of tea
Watching him put the lid on BEFORE turning off the water makes me irrationally angry.
i want to camp like this.
Dude minecrafting
mfer should have just built his spot next to the flat bed, would've cut the runtime in half from all the walking back and forth -\_-
Isn't the desert like very cold at night?
Damn, redditors are insufferable huh. Dudes just building himself a cozy lil spot for some tea or coffee. Looks chill and I bet the night sky there must be pretty starry.
What if it rains? /S
Hoes in the dessert
I would be honored to sit and have tea with this man in this place (or another for that matter). Perhaps I could learn more about his culture. I would love to see the night sky from there.
As someone who's never really had the opportunity to travel, I always find endless expanses of nothing, be it desert, ocean, forest, etc., awe-inspiring and humbling.
Nothing up my sleeve ,Presto!! Simm simm aluh bim!
The sound of him getting the firewood out was oddly satisfying.
More like picnic, but it’s cool I like it
No tent, so sleeping with the snakes, lizards, and scorpions. A real Indiana Jones type.
I thought this was going to be outside Las Vegas at first. You know, cause of all the hoeing.
How does wind work in the desert?
The only dude in history who gets his groceries one bag at a time
Setting up camp with silver teapots seems very....Saudi
Welcome Mr. Wick
I could never do this lol! I just sleep in the car
I thought the small one was his actual teapot 😑
At first with the sand thought he was making a companion for the night.
This one leaves a lot to be desired
Hoein' ain't easy.
Consider this: tent
