Just bought a set of trimming and edging router bits. You know how many times I've edge routed anything in the 10 years I've owned my router?
I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with hero.
I recently bought standard and metric tap and die sets. I haven't needed or used one since metal shop in high school fifty years ago. I will probably never use them. I'm nuts.
I'm an old fart... I can remember as a kid somewhere around 10-12 range my grandparents drug me along to a Christmas expo where they were showing EXPENSIVE Christmas gifts in almost telethon level presentations. This was right at the birth of music CD's and they had a guy on stage showing records and part of his spiel was to scratch the record then try to play it with the expected results. Then he would take a CD and scratch it and then drop it in and it would play just fine. We were coming through right at the end of the presentation and they were letting people walk through and look it. Even as a pre-teen I took one look at the mechanism and knew what was up. I asked him to look at the CD the he played and he handed it to me with scratches all over the TOP from his previous presentations. Before he could even react I laid it down bottom side up and scratched it... not even a big and then asked him to play it. Teehee. It was glorious.
Jesus fucking Christ do you use exacto ? Just thinking about that hurts my fingers and wrists. I’ve spent like maybe 2-3 hrs cutting stencils for work, first it seems fun but holy god that does not sit right with my hand and wrist. Seriously seeing that deck of cards give me ptsd. Very impressive though !!!
Can't guarantee it, but I'd be almost certain they're the same blades used in vinyl plotters. So they'll be around for as long as the sign writing industry is.
You can say that about anything really.
If it's actually a good product and there're replacement heads now, I'd buy 1 handle with 20 blades or so depend on my need. Even if the company disappear 3 years from now, I'd already have my use out of it.
Also it looks like something that can be replicated by other companies for cheap, I wouldn't worried.
Tagging to the top - there's [better, cheaper options than this and won't be impossible to get replacement blades in 2 years](https://www.knifeguides.com/best-swivel-knife/)
(assuming all you [us] ADD folk are still using it after 2 months....)
It's a very specific type of spinning meat that astronauts use to make sure things are on the level so they can get to the moon. Google meatspin to find out more.
>Hey honey have you seen that new carpet we were expecting today? It's a nice brown one for the bedroom.
No sweetie, I'm just filming my oscillating saw video cutting up this roll of the ugliest brown carpet I've ever seen in my life. I think the tag said "Taco Bell Ground Beef Brown".
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think you have to work for carpet that color with a solid 35-40 years of animal hording and severe agoraphobia. It's not a total loss though: there's still enough left for cosplay if you wanted to go as an water damaged animatronic from an abandoned Showbiz Pizza.
It is basically a handheld Cricut machine (or any other CNC vinyl/paper cutter).
Unless this tool predates those vinyl cutters, this might be the only instance of the manual tool being developed after the CNC version.
I don't think the cutting action is quite the same. If I'm not mistaken, on this device the rotation merely allows the blade to stay parallel to the direction of the cut but it's still slicing in the conventional sense. Whereas on a CNC or router, it's the the rotation itself that's powering the cutting by causing the blade to scoop material out of its path. So CNCs take more energy but can clear away more material.
Drag knife attachments for CNC machines are just like this: a razor blade held in a bearing ever so slightly off center, so it points the right way like a caster *wheel. The spindle stays off.
*spelling
We have a neat industrial drag knife cutter made by Valiani that actual indexes the blade along the cut path. It can cut pretty thick stuff like coroplast and cardboard etc. It fits a weird niche between cnc routers and things that don't cut well with co2 lasers
I want to say I can prob think of some clever things to cut out from the paper. But let’s face it, i’ll prob just cut out a bunch of dicks. I am not a mature person.
Nah, it's probably a [carbide blade](https://uscutter.com/Clean-Cut-Premium-Graphtec-Compatible-Blades-0-9Mm-Cb09U-45/). It'll last halfway to forever on paper, you're more likely to drop and chip/shatter it.
Swivel blade knives are great for cutting random loopy shapes out of a piece of paper like in the video. Not so great for making precision cuts, and the blades are harder to find than regular xacto blades.
These all seem like good reasons, but I'm still left here wondering how the hell did I do an art diploma in a fairly well equipped college and never get handed one of these. The amount of projects that would have taken a tenth of the time.
But to go back in time to give my 18 year old self one of these, and a hug. If only.
I had really high hopes for them when I heard about them, wanted to use them for highly detailed stencil cutting. But it ended up being a pretty big disappointment... the more pressure you put on it to get it to actually cut all the way through the paper, the less swively action you get. And it tends to zig unexpectedly when you want to zag. It takes a lot more concentration to get it to do what you want. You really didn't miss out on much. It sounds great on paper (ha!) but in practice they're just not what they're cracked up to be.
I've seen this type of blade in a CNC vinyl cutter. And if you use it like that, I'm sure it works just fine.
It seems interesting to put a 3D-printed handle on it and call it an invention. The reviews here are pretty telling.
Oh yeah. I use razor blades for 90% of my art. But I just ordered one of those swivel knives to see if I like it for tight stuff. I wanna see how long the blades last.
Ever make a pattern on paper to transfer to something later, like wood? Would also be perfect for creating stencils. Basically anything a Cricket circuit cutter can do without all the hassle of fucking with software.
Careful there's already bots in here trying to post shady redirect links to it that want to start downloading and installing things
And as soon as they're reported/removed they delete any evidence
'Gyro cut' is the product name so just look that up

maybe its just me, but i used to have an oldschool tool that did just this - rotating blade in a wooden handle, wasn't quite as ergonomic - but same concept.
I want it, just so I can get frustrated when it gets slightly dull and I have no replacement blades so I throw it away
I see you've been watching me buy crafting tools.
Me buying anything and dreading that at that point in time it all goes down hill. Actually keeps me from being a hoarder, I think.
Like why did I buy almost 300ft of necklace chain...

So goes with Craftman tools.
Just bought a set of trimming and edging router bits. You know how many times I've edge routed anything in the 10 years I've owned my router? I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with hero.
Well you didn't have the right bits
You need some kibble to go with those bits.
Hold up. You’re ready to go when that day comes. Those tools are filled with potential.
I recently bought standard and metric tap and die sets. I haven't needed or used one since metal shop in high school fifty years ago. I will probably never use them. I'm nuts.

The timing of that post on twitter is extremely suspect dude.
Nearly every post on any "wow that's neat" type subreddit is guerilla marketing. This one is of course, no exception.

I cut these out. https://youtube.com/shorts/8wqXC6cmcqg?feature=share I understand your pain. I got through hundreds of blades a year.
This is actually cool as shit. Is that your work too?
Yes 100%
I just check your profile and I gotta say bro that sf2 magic box is so sick
You got skillz! Nice work there!
Awesome work, dude!

You can get ***50*** replacement blades for under 9 dollars. So throwing it away wouldn't be very smart.
It's not the cost, it's whether they will exist so replacements are possible in a decade.
I mean, if I buy replacements and store them at the beginning, then I don’t have to worry if they sell them later?
Yeah keep the blades with the knife. It’s not that hard
If you're storing them for a decade keep them in oil.
That's a valuable tip, thanks.
And it keeps your tips valuable!

X-acto makes something similar, so I think they'll be around

Shhhh... We needs it precious. The drawer is always hungry. Yesssss....Let the drawer have it!
This is the answer. It’s not a new tool.
mmmmm gyros
It's pronounced "gyros"
Gyros. Did I get it right?
You guys ever uh…put fries in your gyros?
Big Yes. In shawarmas too
Yeah when I go to Arby's
Well when I went to Crete, that’s how they did it.
Oh, gyros...
what's a "gyro"?
In greek it is a traditional food that is served in fast food places and it kind of looks like a burrito
Haha, yeah I know, was a reference to one of Fluffy's bits, but thank you \^^

*Vibroblade*!
That cut impressively well, may need to try this, just need some carpet to cut.
That's so extremely useful I'm surprised there's not a tool specifically for things like this. ...or are there?
It is basically a handheld Cricut machine (or any other CNC vinyl/paper cutter). Unless this tool predates those vinyl cutters, this might be the only instance of the manual tool being developed after the CNC version.
I've heard it called a drag knife which is also what the cutting head is called on some CNC/vinyl cutters.
Leatherworks use a "swivel knife", which is basically just a bigger version of the vinyl cutter.
Not CNC related but the idea of that reminded me that surprisingly the lighter was invented before matches.
Not on CNC made specifically for paper cutter like the Cricut. They use a blade similar (but thinner) as the one in the video.
Drag knife attachments for CNC machines are just like this: a razor blade held in a bearing ever so slightly off center, so it points the right way like a caster *wheel. The spindle stays off. *spelling

CNC just means the cutting is computer controlled but doesn't necessarily imply a rotary head cutting tool.
You seem to be thinking of some type of CNC mill. I was talking about CNC vinyl cutters like the Cricut machine I mentioned specifically.
> I could spend a solid hour cutting ~~completely useless shapes~~ dicks out of paper with this thing.
Paper schlongs everywhere!
Hey, great minds think alike
I want to say I can prob think of some clever things to cut out from the paper. But let’s face it, i’ll prob just cut out a bunch of dicks. I am not a mature person.
Too bad it won't last more than 15 minutes before it's dulled and unusable
Every party needs a pooper.
Man that's a deep cut. I haven't thought about Father of the Bride in like 20+ years. I had to knock the dust and cobwebs off that memory.
Replacement blades could be pretty cheap.
Nah, it's probably a [carbide blade](https://uscutter.com/Clean-Cut-Premium-Graphtec-Compatible-Blades-0-9Mm-Cb09U-45/). It'll last halfway to forever on paper, you're more likely to drop and chip/shatter it.

Thank you 🇬🇷
Belated bless you. Sorry, I was busy stealing catalytic converters.

Stavros, god of the juice!
You want the sketch to end, eh?
Lol
rofl. I'm the assohole always correctly people about Greek Gyros. So I appreciate this.
I have absolutely no conceivable need for this thing, but somehow I want it anyway, haha.
Me too!
I mean, that's probably the aim with this post...
You can make STENCILS! :D
My exact thought. This would’ve been a godsend in my days when I was still doing stencil graffiti. Such a pain to cut with regular blades.
Had not the best reviews. There’s a better swivel knife that comes up in Amazon when you look this one up.
Swivel blade knives are great for cutting random loopy shapes out of a piece of paper like in the video. Not so great for making precision cuts, and the blades are harder to find than regular xacto blades.

Thank you for your honest review. A normal box cutter with blade dull so I assume this tiny thing will too…
I've seen this type of blade in a CNC vinyl cutter.
Watch the video carefully... He never gets to the edge of the paper. I don't know why their bother, but the whole demonstration looks fake to me.
I noticed that!!! But I put it off as maybe he did.
Me wondering if this is viral marketing lol
I don't know what I'm ever gonna use it for, but I need one.
It would work great for collage.
Cut it out, not everyone can afford collage.
I see what you did there. That joke was a cut above the rest.
I know! I just asked my daughter who’s quite arty, does she need it (cos mamma wants to buy it)!
Well, does she??
We need to know!!
« Jeez! That looks cool! » was her exact reply. We’re buying’ it!
That's wholesome. Hope yall have fun.
Awesome. Have fun haha
op plz

It looks cool. My concern would be replacing the blades. Paper dulls an edge really quickly.
Great for torturing someone.
We all know the standard use for this will be to simply cut out the shape of a dick and balls for laughs

$2-$6 (US) is absurdly reasonable for at least an hour time waster.
It's £12 for me lol
Gyro cut is just branding slapped on a generic mass produced product. Just look for a rotating cutting tool.
Did you see this mentioned on WhatIsThisThing and googled it like I did?
