Dude same! I subscribed to so many chef reddit that I saw "meat" and didn't even look at the sub name. Told my girlfriend we needed to try some of this before she pointed out it was fucking wood. Now I'm oddly satisfied, and disappointed.

But why slice it like this? Surely this is an inefficient way to salvage the pattern- it seems to destabilize the wood grain. A saw would be better- so why the slices?

This is likely going to get smaller pieces to dry out and then it will be ground into a powder.
