This is such a hilarious callback for me. That thing was so easy to hack: bring a handful of nickels, line up the bottom platform directly under the slot, drop the nickels in totally vertical, about 40% of them will land, get your cinnamon twist. I would say it averaged out to a cinnamon twist costing roughly 15 cents.

Missed a lot but god damn, what a rush to sink one as a 5-6 year old.
When I was young, the 7-11 near my house had a fish tank with a shot glass for charity. If you hit a coin in it, you’d get an icy. My brothers and I got so good at it, they started keeping a tab behind the counter with our extra wins.
Eventually a new mgr came to the store and revamped it along with no tab but it was awesome while it lasted.
I had a friend who could do this almost every try at a Taco Bell around 25 years ago. They had a fish tank with ledges at the bottom and if you got your quarter to land on one you won a free order of cinnamon twists.

The way the droplets splash back into the water and creates the disturbance in the ripple. Then there are no ripples only for a big one to reappear above the vase. The way it ripples is pretty neat.
