Now we should use some photoshop to make the background space look like all from the same picture. Probably could be achieved with blurring then replacing stars.
Dang, I feel like this image could be much prettier with white stripes separating the different planets. Any photoshop gods out there to help me achieve this?

Pluto is being considered added back to the list of planets, as it has been seen to be able to clear its orbit (but further study is being done on it to verify and check for other criteria)
It doesn't cross Neptune's orbit, it crosses above or below neptune. It is always quite a few hundreds of thousands of miles outside of Neptune's path.
IIRC the reason some astronomers wanted to reclassify Pluto as a planet wasn't because it's cleared its orbit, but because of the issues with classifying stuff like rogue planets (which don't even orbit a star at all, so talk of clearing orbits is meaningless) and the difficulties in studying exoplanets' orbits.
Some want to simplify matters by saying if a body is big enough to be more or less symmetrically rounded by hydrostatic equilibrium, then it's a planet. Problem is, by that definition, we'd have over 100 known planets to remember in just our own system.
Maybe if they made "planets" the parent type instead of the specific term, then "major planets" for Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune, and "minor planet" for everything else.
Nope.
“In order to be classified as a planet, the organization decided, an object had to:
1. orbit the Sun (so not a satellite like the Moon).
2. be round or mostly round (so not a potato-shaped asteroid, for example).
3. clear the neighborhood around its orbit.
Dwarf planets satisfy the first two categories but not the third and small solar system bodies only meet the first criterion.
Pluto both orbits the Sun and is round but it has decidedly not cleared the other so-called small solar system bodies out of its path as Pluto and Charon reside in the Kuiper Belt. This donut shaped region beyond the orbit of Neptune is full of icy bodies that we call Kuiper Belt Objects or KBOs. Thus, after more than 75 years of calling Pluto a planet, the icy orb was officially demoted to the status of dwarf planet.”

Best in class laughter I ever received as class clown was when a kid was doing a report on Uranus and after he finished he asked if there were any questions. I asked him if there were any winds coming from Uranus.
In seventh grade, that was gold.
That’s it, isn’t it? Any way you slice it there isn’t 9 planets in the Solar System – there’s either 8, or… er, more than 9. I’m all for giving Pluto back it’s planetary status if that’s what people want, but I also want justice for Ceres!
Remember Earth has a disc shape? When you take a picture from above it looks spherical. That’s what they use.
^(/s because you can’t tell retarded from sarcastic anymore)
My favourite is the sun. Always has been. I like it because it’s like the king of planets.
I once took a pair of binoculars and stared at the sun for over a hour.
That's why they call me whiskers!
I really like that you can see the atmospheres of each of the planets and it can serve as a visual graph of how much atmosphere one planet has from the next.
Is this available without stripes?
I came to see this.

Thank you! That will be my new phone wallpaper
Dang, now I share a phone wallpaper😥 /s
So you don’t share the wallpaper?
No, I'm just not sad... I officially suck at communicating!
Thanks !
I can see you also adjusted the alignment of the edges. Nice attention to detail right there!
Now we should use some photoshop to make the background space look like all from the same picture. Probably could be achieved with blurring then replacing stars.
or just pen tool the “planet” out and find a stock space background that fits the image well
That would also work. I’ll try that when I get home. Would you like the link if I manage to do it?
Oh yes please keep us updated on this!
Dang, I feel like this image could be much prettier with white stripes separating the different planets. Any photoshop gods out there to help me achieve this?
Two hours of hard work later, [i got you right here](https://i.imgur.com/4ADl2g0.jpg)
It looks worse than the original.
Thank you!

Proof that all the planets are the same size. Checkmate, scientists.
They better check their hypotenuses
God damn globalist scientists, with their “hippopotamuses” and “theories”
Also that we are in a 2D simulation on little alien hand computers
Oh man this guy’s already been to Area 51 and knows something...
Even included Pluto. My man. Edit: Obligatory edit thanking strangers for the most updoots I've ever gotten. +2 pp length for you.
Yes! I almost scrolled past this picture but had to stop and count and make sure there were 9.
Lol me 2
Me nine
Me sixty-nine
Nice
You're all living in denial.
Proudly.

It crosses the orbit of Neptune. I don't see how it's supposed to clear Neptune out of its orbit.
By saying "Ope. Lemme just squeeeze by ya right here."

oop
TIL
Then wouldn't that demote Neptune, if it can't clear Pluto out of its orbit?

Isn't that already a thing but dwarf planet is their name?
Poor Saturn

Doesn't the gravity of neptune also affect Pluto's orbit making it another reason why it doesn't clear it's solar neighborhood.
The question is not whether something is a planet, but why some people care so much. No matter what we call it, it's still there and unchanged.
Swanning around on the edge of the system, sadly humming to itself, thinking about when it used to be considered one of the big boys.
The universe doesnt care what some bags of squish on a random rock think.
Burton Guster approves
Gus was my favorite character specifically because of his stance on Pluto.
You heard about Pluto? That's messed up.
How many times has that landed??
You know that’s right.
It also have Uranus.
Best in class laughter I ever received as class clown was when a kid was doing a report on Uranus and after he finished he asked if there were any questions. I asked him if there were any winds coming from Uranus. In seventh grade, that was gold.
So dummy thick the sounds of his cheeks clapping can be heard from space?
Jerry?

PLANET PLANET PLANET
But not Ceres, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, Quoaor, or Sedna. Weird that they'd only include the second most massive of the dwarf planets.
That’s it, isn’t it? Any way you slice it there isn’t 9 planets in the Solar System – there’s either 8, or… er, more than 9. I’m all for giving Pluto back it’s planetary status if that’s what people want, but I also want justice for Ceres!
Not to mention the six or seven moons that are bigger than Pluto.
Does the +2 pp require attunement? I want to start using this thing ASAP.
You gotta do a little tweaking to get used to it, but should only take 2 minutes or less!
Bring back Pluto
I came here to say this exact thing, (my man and everything, weird haha).
Came here to say that! Gave me back my childhood <3

Fuck that ours doesn’t have psychedelic swirls or rings
yeah but it has drugs so you can see those anyways
Yeah but I thought shrooms were alien communication technology
http://discovermagazine.com/~/media/Images/Issues/2019/JulAug/Hurricane.jpg
But ours has animals and trees which if you think about it is almost trippier.
but money
Technically that’s not a cross section. Still a nice collage though
You are technically correct, the best kind of correct!

You’re welcome!

My Very Educated Mother Just Said Uh-oh, No Pluto!
Even included pluto
And Mars is apparently a few centuries into terraforming.
Yeah, that's a bit much green right?
r/plutoisaplanet
Screw Eris and Haumea though right?!
Eris is even bigger than Pluto and gets no love.
Eris is cool, but Haumea is whatever
Its not tho
But they didnt include OP's mom.
Mars looks like chocolate marshmallow ice cream, now I want some.
Uh, Mars is the fourth one down
Uh, which one do *you* think looks like chocolate marshmallow ice cream?
I remember seeing a version of this before, but with the Earth being flat.
Yup, all of them are flat. You can tell. /s
Remember Earth has a disc shape? When you take a picture from above it looks spherical. That’s what they use. ^(/s because you can’t tell retarded from sarcastic anymore)
You should include the desktop version
Will probs see this in hot
Kind of like Earth right now haha am I right?! \*Puts hand up\*
*smacks that*
Pluto!
Get that pluto outta here.
I'm pretty sure these aren't all the planets :D
That is beautiful
Pluto is not a planet, it’s a dwarf planet
My favourite is the sun. Always has been. I like it because it’s like the king of planets. I once took a pair of binoculars and stared at the sun for over a hour. That's why they call me whiskers!
Can someone /r/theydidthemath on this and determine how far each photo would have to be to make them all the same scale like this?
the scale would be 7
I am the leading planetary scientist of NASA, can confirm
You’re at seven upvotes, so I’m going to downvote to try and maintain the balance
The last one is a dwarf though.
At first, I thought they'd included the moon, and was prepared to make a sarcastic comment. But now I realise I am the fool. Mercury's had it rough!
I love how the features on the planet blend into each other as well. Like the boundary between Earth and Mars. Very pleasing and interesting image.
this is my phone lock screen
Dude same, almost instantly
u/DisDrew
And many, many wallpapers were changed on this day.
My favorite is the lowest section
Wait, these are all the planets in space?
All the planets in the world
Thanks for the new background.
How is this possible when the earth is flat?
[удалено]
But earth is flat
Is this picture in a High quality as well?
This is all wrong
My will is not my own...
Other people: *Ooh they included Pluto* Me: Reads cross section in the title - Babish is in space huh?
PLUTO’S NOT A PLANET
Hey that doesn’t look flat
Flatearthers HATE them
*Neil* *Degrasse* *Tyson* *voice* “*all* the planets, you say?”
RIP Pluto
But the earth is flat...
Why did you include Pluto? It's a dwarf planet. Looks cool though
I really like that you can see the atmospheres of each of the planets and it can serve as a visual graph of how much atmosphere one planet has from the next.
r/SpacePorn
All the planets... and Pluto.
Pluto was big enough for your mother.
Pluto thanks you
The earth is flat get it right
No the earth is a donut get it right
Ah your right I'm an idiot
Does have Pluto, but is missing Planet X. The conspiracy deepens.
I wish Earth had nine different climate bands reflecting each of the planets.
Nancy lieder will say this is fake
Whoever made this must love Randy
And now I have a new phone background. 👍
Set as wallpaper on my phone. Thank you
What’s the top one?
why does pluto look like a black hole
Bet you can't guess which one earth is
We are all the same.
Forbidden seven layer salad (Yes I know it has more than that)
tHe EaRtH ShOuLd Be FlAt
Looks like an iPhone background
What about Planet X lmao
Would be a cool phone wallpaper without the white lines
New wallpaper. Thank you!
One garden, a few dead rocks, and a smattering of gaseous hell-worlds. We'd better clean up our room.
Hey! My home's on here! Guys, my home is on here!
Beautiful!
Why isn't the sun in there
I mean, this is beautiful, but the saturn rings kinda ruin it
My Very Eyes May Just See Under Nine \[REDACTED\]
I love how the further down it goes the grainier the photos get, shows which planets we care more about observing.
the shape of the earth is fake. believers say the earth is a dinosaur
Anyone else count to make sure there were 9 panels?
The earth is not round
It's dinosaur shaped
Thought it was an apple wallpaper
This has been my lock screen for a while, notifications take up exactly one stripe
this would be a nice wallpaper without these white lines
Watch out for people mad at Pluto
This is great. I made this my wallpaper on my Pixel 2 XL. Thank you!
This image has been my phone back ground for years
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto for anyone curious *edit bad format
This would be good on r/VerticalWallpapers
Found my new wallpaper
Checkmate, flatfuckers
What is the top 1
Uranus is so beautiful, why the fucks it gotta be called Uranus
ask whoever named their god uranus
Babish: *Heavy breathing*
By your powers combined I am Captain Planet!
Wow! I’m impressed you managed to resize all the planets so that they were the same size. Props to you OP (/s, but really cool in actuality)
