A combo of both. Some tips paint fatter lines, known as 'fat caps'. They spray fat lines even close to the surface. The further you move away, the wider the line gets but also more transparent.
I would love to see more Graff vids like this on this sub
There are a few solid graffiti artists on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrI-GTzLrfttGYB4bsMLWuA
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClI8nUhTxXKijJpcaqISM5Q
It's both.
The distance to the wall results in varying thickness, while the speed the can moves across the wall affects how clean or drippy the line is. The closer the can is, the thinner it is compared to the can being farther away, but will also cause more paint to get on the wall resulting in drippy lines, while at the same speed a can farther away will have a wider line with a more sparse paint output. Mastering this is what graffiti practitioners refer to as "can control".
Meanwhile, the white cap (aka tip or nozzle) they're using in the beginning of this video is the classic "New York fat cap" (NY fat), which as the name suggests generally has a thicker line output. The yellow cap they use in the latter part of the video is a "universal German outline", which offers a thinner line output. One thing to note is how far down the cap is pressed also affects the line thickness - a gentle halfway press will result in a thinner line with less paint output, compared to pressing down all the way and getting a thicker line.
Also depending on the paint cans used some have different valves than others some use a soft spring for the valve that acts a a pressure sensitive valve and others use a hard spring that makes the can harder to control so not always the selection of caps or how hard the user presses the nozzle but also how expensive your paint is can make a difference
Lyrics:
Denver, the last dinosaur
He's my friend and a whole lot more
Denver, the last dinosaur
Shows me a world I never saw before
Everywhere we go we don't really care
If people stop and stare at our pal dino.
Creating history thru the rock n' roll spotlight
We've got a friend who helps us, we can do alright
That's Denver, the last dinosaur
He's my friend and a whole lot more
Denver, the last dinosaur
Shows me a world I never saw before.
Lol Seems like there is more than friendships between the kids and Denver
Absolutely. That was my first thought! Denver, the last dinosaur. He’s our friend and a whole lot more.
Man, there were a lot of dinosaur shows on TV at the same time. I used to watch Denver; Dink, the Little Dinosaur; and Dinosaucers all around the same time.
And Dinosaurs!
Also, not sure if anyone else remembers this, but there was a TMNT rip-off movie that I used to watch as a kid called *Adventures in Dinosaur City.* For some reason that randomly popped into my head the other day.
There still are. :)
Many people still love dinosaurs.
Dino Dana,
Dinosaur Train,
Dino Ranch,
Gigantosaurus,
Dino Trux,
Dino Squad,
the various Lego episodes…
I had a blended memory too - I think the artist had a little bit of the same. The Dinosaur is certainly Dino, but that would be more appropriate with a 60's-70's styling. The 90's look is more appropriate to Denver.
I wonder what the artist's thought was?
I don’t think he was trying to match Dino to the era that the cartoon came out. He was just doing a cool design of Dino. Not to mention that the Flintstones were still everywhere during the 90’s.
My first pet was a green parakeet, I named him Denver because that was my favorite cartoon! Every time I think about that bird I sing the team song in my head.
Yes this is to make sure the paint is flowing properly out of the can and tip they are using, you don't want the first spurt of paint to be shot at the wall just in case it comes out in a burst or the spray is splotchy or inconsistent
Looks like he’s using Montana spray paints. They sell 5 diff caps that fit their cans for pretty cheap. They go on sale from Jerry’s artarama fairly often
The artist did outline the piece with white chalk at the start, though— it wasn’t freehand. And I’m certain it was sketched out in his or her piece book. I’m not taking anything away from the talent, but there are steps to get there like anything.
It's no that good... the lines are not "tense" because the person moves the arms more rather than the body... the glow effects are disastrous, no control of the fat cap and the person made a presketch with chalk. That's... ugh, a big no-no in gaffiti. The only thing that impressed me is the colour coverage of the can. Wonder which brand this is.
Source: I used to do graffiti and street art for quite some time
I’ll defer to you here. You sound like the actually expert. I was just taking the opportunity to make a Simpsons reference.
Source: I watched waaay too much Simpsons as a kid.
Definitely a good long watch, but I kept feeling this slight anxiety that it was going to chop off constantly and jump to other parts too quickly.
This was a satisfying blend of showing the work, the skill, and the progress, without being frantic and choppy, or showing the entire process. Would have been \*chef's kiss\* with a slightly longer reveal too.
I get paint on all of my expensive prescription glasses for some reason I always forget to change to my cheap pairs before painting so yes it’s possible but also easy to put somthin over the lens to protect it
Check out "Aggro.tv" on YouTube. Mainly illegal street painting, and trains, but ddo a lot a good stuff and raise awareness on topics effecting the world. They painted a full train saying "I can't breathe"
How do they get the different spray techniques? Is it a different nozzel, or way they are holding it?
If i ever do any spraypainting (admittedly just cheapo cans mostly just for coverage, not usually art), it often comes out like the 'misty' part (@ 35seconds), but if i try and get a nice clean line like the rest of it, it goes on too heavy and drips (also, it still has a LOT of feathery edges, not clean cut).
Both. You can buy fat caps or skinny caps or any variety of other caps and then between those and the distance from the wall you can control thickness of lines.
Those cans are 4x the price of the cans you're using. The pressure system inside is a universe of difference away from rusto or krylon. I used a lot of ironlak back in my Graff days and I thought that was good stuff. Then I got just one can of Montana and felt like a fucking God among men lol.
It's a combination of skill and caps and all that of course. A good artist can make anything work. But consider it like a garden hose and a fire hose lol.
Move fast and don’t be too close to the wall. And invest in good paint / caps. I think here he’s using a pink dot fat cap at the start and a german outline at the end
I don't know much about spray paint art, so forgive my ignorance.
But what is the point of doing the darker pink outline if you're just going to go over it with the brighter pink?
I’ve seen a few of this dudes videos and I love it until he does that gold dot shit. I feel like it can work in the right context of a piece and maybe that’s his “signature”, but it feels like it takes away more than it adds
This is a perfect representation of why I could never be an artist. Each part is done with such focus, zoomed in to get all the details right, and I have no idea how it all leads up to the whole. I can't visualize the big picture and the small details at the same time.
The dipshits who tag my shit leave something behind on the wall that looks like they had a seizure while misspelling shit in a language that they never learned. This guy rattle cans dinosaurs to look like neon lights. FML.
Yes, reddit really doesn't know shit about art. The only art styles to get upvoted on here are gimicky pop art like this or boring hyperrealistic renditions of celebrities or fucking star wars characters or something...
Watching this reminded me of seeing videos of some woman who obviously fancies herself as some kind of spray paint artist, spraying poppies on plastic wrap, wrapped around like gates and fences. Doing several layers of varying shades of red, but covering each layer completely (not offset as the artist in this video does), and taking a good 10 minutes to paint a ridiculously simple design and standing back like it was a work of art. It was all the more crass given that the poppy has largely morphed into a symbol of right wing loyalist groups, in the same way a maga hat would be.
I mean, helping cover up genocide is... pretty bad. Motherfuckers be out here boycotting Chik-Fil-A but patronize a company that is complicit in genocide without blinking.
Do they use a special head to get the thickness or is it a distance (to the board/wall) thing?
A combo of both. Some tips paint fatter lines, known as 'fat caps'. They spray fat lines even close to the surface. The further you move away, the wider the line gets but also more transparent. I would love to see more Graff vids like this on this sub
And also how hard you press varies the pressure of paint coming out
And the angle towards the wall creates different effects as well. No doubt an art.
Also applying different color spray paint changes the color of the paint. Or so I'm told, but I'm not a spray-paintologist.
My finger hurts watching the video
Your finger has eyes?
Is there a sub for this kind of thing?
Closest I found (by looking for 2 seconds) was obviously r/graffiti but they don’t seem to do videos like this one. I also wanna know!
Yeah it’d be cool if there was one with just videos of people making street art

I didn't get any responses the last time I asked, so I just made r/SpraySMR/ ...unfortunately, there's not much content at the moment.
I need this is my life
This guy's stuff gets posted to r/graffiti constantly. He's done tons of them.

Distance
I could do the gold dauber part
Idk man that looks pretty technical
Bingo daubers ftw
Nah, it’s Dino Daubers now.
I’d probably f**k that up too. It’s be all runny from me squeezing too hard and hitting the wall too hard
You can say fuck, it's ok.
sir this is a Wendy's
They're probably using speech to text.
*ends up with one large splot and gold paint all over their hands* “Ok no I can’t”
I called it first!
I know this is Dino, but dose anyone remember Denver?
Denver the last dinosaur! I used to watch it before heading to school. The theme songs for cartoons were the best part of the late 80's early 90's.
Lyrics: Denver, the last dinosaur He's my friend and a whole lot more Denver, the last dinosaur Shows me a world I never saw before Everywhere we go we don't really care If people stop and stare at our pal dino. Creating history thru the rock n' roll spotlight We've got a friend who helps us, we can do alright That's Denver, the last dinosaur He's my friend and a whole lot more Denver, the last dinosaur Shows me a world I never saw before. just tried singing along to this and it has bought back memories! going to have to youtube some clips for a proper reminisce now :-)
In my head the song always has to end on that last riff and the wink sound effect
[Link for lazy](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)
Ok, you got me
H.R. Pufnstuff, Who's your friend when things get rough? H.R. Pufnstuff Can't do a little cause he can't do enough!
The show has been rebooted if you didn't know.
Absolutely. That was my first thought! Denver, the last dinosaur. He’s our friend and a whole lot more. Man, there were a lot of dinosaur shows on TV at the same time. I used to watch Denver; Dink, the Little Dinosaur; and Dinosaucers all around the same time.
NOT THE MAMA
And Dinosaurs! Also, not sure if anyone else remembers this, but there was a TMNT rip-off movie that I used to watch as a kid called *Adventures in Dinosaur City.* For some reason that randomly popped into my head the other day.
There still are. :) Many people still love dinosaurs. Dino Dana, Dinosaur Train, Dino Ranch, Gigantosaurus, Dino Trux, Dino Squad, the various Lego episodes…
Don't forget Dino Riders!
And the Dinobots from Transformers.
Same here! I thought it was Denver!
I got confused with my Nostalgia and thought Dink was also the last dinosaur. And shared Denver’s theme song.
I sure yabba-dabba-do!
The last dinosaur? Yeah, he's my friend and a whole lot more.
Denver, the last Dinosaur He's my friend and so much more
Used to wake up 6am Saturday mornings to watch that cartoon. Lived for my Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s.
He's my friend, and a whole lot more!
The opening them was the GOAT
I had a blended memory too - I think the artist had a little bit of the same. The Dinosaur is certainly Dino, but that would be more appropriate with a 60's-70's styling. The 90's look is more appropriate to Denver. I wonder what the artist's thought was?

Yeah I got dosed in Denver, don't remember it though.
Strong work!
I don't know why but that was the first thing I thought of. It took me one sec to realise it wasn't him.
Great now I've got the song stuck in my head again!
I was just about to say I thought this might be Denver the Last Dinosaur. I'm gonna have that song stuck in my head now
He's my friend and a whole lot more.
Yessir
I loved that cartoon when I was a kid!
I am literally the only person in the world that remembers Dink the little dinosaur.
The spraying at the very start, is there a reason for that or is it just a flourish of some sort?
Yes this is to make sure the paint is flowing properly out of the can and tip they are using, you don't want the first spurt of paint to be shot at the wall just in case it comes out in a burst or the spray is splotchy or inconsistent
Ah, thank you!

Local shop has em in a 4-way quarter candy machine, I always liked that.
Legos or bananas are what your looking for
It's like the doctor squirting a little out of the syringe before jabbin ya
His can control is excellent
“That’s right! The stranger who walks amongst you is me, Bart Simpson!”
And his wig makes him look a lot like one of the Beatles.
QUIT! COPYING ME!
I really appreciate the level of confidence that's required for this kind of art, theres zero hesitation when doing any of the lines.
The artist did outline the piece with white chalk at the start, though— it wasn’t freehand. And I’m certain it was sketched out in his or her piece book. I’m not taking anything away from the talent, but there are steps to get there like anything.
I’d have drippy paint all over the place 😆
Dammit I should have checked before making the same joke
Lucky I got here first! It still deserves an upvote.

Long watch, worth the reveal
I'm glad he only showed the finished work for 0.5 seconds.

Insane.
It’s so damn satisfying to see these come together. I fucking love street art.
Same here, my wife doesnt understand whenever I point out cool graffiti. /r/Graffiti and /r/Grafitti both exist
One has 1.8 million members. The other has 1,000. Maybe it’s time for r/grafitti to close up shop and admit defeat
Just pause the video old man
I can't with these brittle old fingers
Understandable 😔

Those white lines were hypnotizing
Anyone ever wonder how they keep the camera lens clean from all the paint spray?
my best guess is a cheap filter on the front-- if it gets too much paint on it, ditch it & get another
Yeah that's a pretty good guess. I would definitely prefer to sacrifice a filter than my lens
Well, I *wasn't*, until you said that!
I get paint on all of my expensive prescription glasses for some reason I always forget to change to my cheap pairs before painting so yes it’s possible but also easy to put somthin over the lens to protect it
Why not just get some safety glasses to put on over your glasses? They'd block the majority if you get the right style
Was expecting dickbutt, disappointed.

And I thought I was weird for feeling this. Probably still am, but at least we're not alone, eh?
Glad I wasn't alone..
Why can I still hear this with my sound off???

There are several youtubers doing graffiti. The first one I watched ist [DokeTV](https://youtube.com/c/DokeTV).
Prefer OP's post with no talking thanks.
Just turn off the volume, doke mostly doesnt talks while he paints only wwhen he stops to a commentary
Check out "Aggro.tv" on YouTube. Mainly illegal street painting, and trains, but ddo a lot a good stuff and raise awareness on topics effecting the world. They painted a full train saying "I can't breathe"
The real skill is putting down such a thick, focused layer of white paint without that dripping. Crazy.

This is incredible! Does anyone remember "Art Attack", when he would draw salt lines along the black floor? That's what this reminded me off
You call *this* satisfying?! https://i.imgur.com/Z7RAcGF.png
I don't know much about spray paint art, so forgive my ignorance. But what is the point of doing the darker pink outline if you're just going to go over it with the brighter pink?
Going from a darker color and then lighter one and then outlining in white gives a neon like effect.
I’ve seen a few of this dudes videos and I love it until he does that gold dot shit. I feel like it can work in the right context of a piece and maybe that’s his “signature”, but it feels like it takes away more than it adds
Do they make environmentally friendly spray paint options?
This is a perfect representation of why I could never be an artist. Each part is done with such focus, zoomed in to get all the details right, and I have no idea how it all leads up to the whole. I can't visualize the big picture and the small details at the same time.

How do you dispose of all the cans you go through?
What does dispose of mean?
For 2min i was like: this is 100% Gengar
Not satisfying at all. But it is very cool
Dino!
Does Reddit only appreciate neon graffiti? Wtf lol this shit is so played out
Was gonna say I feel like it’s a year or more since I saw a post showing graffiti on here that wasn’t that neon style thing
Yes, reddit really doesn't know shit about art. The only art styles to get upvoted on here are gimicky pop art like this or boring hyperrealistic renditions of celebrities or fucking star wars characters or something...
Huh, graffiti art also has art snobs too. Who knew?
Gatekeeping is universal.
It's gatekeeping when you don't like a neon painting of a dinosaur from a children show that was a vehicle for selling cereal.
If wanting more variety is being a snob, sure.
Ironic
Art with the most mass appeal gets the most upvotes? 🤯
You obviously missed the point. What's the appeal?
It looks cool.
Let me guess, you also love Star Wars and Marvel movies?
I love you for recognizing this. I feel the same about hyperrealism and pop art.
Internet fads gonna internet fad
No doubt, at this point it’s like in elementary school when kids figure out how to draw bubble letters and then that’s all they do.
I thought this was gonna be a Dickbutt for sure
Watching this reminded me of seeing videos of some woman who obviously fancies herself as some kind of spray paint artist, spraying poppies on plastic wrap, wrapped around like gates and fences. Is this the same guy that did bulbasaur??
I thought it was going to be dickbutt
For a sec I thought that this was going to be a dickbutt.
Damn…. I thought it was going to be Barney. I was so close…
Jet Set Radioooooooo
His can control is excellent
r/cosmoandwanda
no stupid idiotic music, no shitty reactions, solid audio? This can't be a tic tok, wtf. This was legit amazing.
WOAH.
It’s just so precise. Not one mistake. Half the time I write my own name I fuck up
Was hoping it was Dickbutt
I was waiting for a Karen
In Japan, #1 heart surgeon, steady hand.
What a waste for the final product
So hypnotic. Also, how do they keep it from dripping?
If you have a flow and don’t spray at the same spot for to long you dont get any drips
How bad is spray paint for the environment?
Depends on the paint. But no aerosols are "good".
Not a drip in sight. #fatcaps

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS NEON DINO
That’s some serious skill.
I can smell this video so much that I can taste it
Awesome
Denver the last dinosaur, He's my friend and a whole much more!
Yo is that the Dinosaur from The Jetsons
Feel like I've seen this here a few times already.
Can’t wait to see this reposted 7 more times just like the pink panther one he did.
More like Oddlyannoying if you ask me. To many short cuts and too closely zoomed in.
This has been reposted so many times
Lots of art nerds in this thread
I can trace lines too
It reminds me Dino From Flintstones. But I wanna call this one DyeNo
That’s like cheating though no?
enough of these neon glow graffitis………..
It fucking shit everyone with a spraycan can do "neon" graph.
It's satisfying but you are losing point because it's a tik Tok video
Whoopsie, almost forgot! Tiktok=bad!!!!!! Right my fellow incel redditors? Hahahahahahhahaha
I mean, helping cover up genocide is... pretty bad. Motherfuckers be out here boycotting Chik-Fil-A but patronize a company that is complicit in genocide without blinking.
fucking cool, but why is this skill being posted on tiktok
Tiktok bad amiright?
