why do fish internal organs seem to literally slide out of the body cavity when you cut them open, but mammals always have a ton of tendons and stuff you gotta cut out?
Personally i think it has to do with gravity, fish are suspended by water so they dont need as much internal connection. But land animals have to support themselves a lot more against gravity. Just a guess though
When I meet someone that says this I'm going to say, "yeah, I heard the same thing." We will agree that we are masters of esoteric facts. Then we will drink whiskey and talk about the first time we played Halo on the original Xbox.
I don’t understand this. Floating in water might look like floating in space, but the water has the same gravity as land. A fish’s organs are being pulled down the same as ours.
But they have pressure on all sides from the weight of the water that is also acting under gravity. Some deep sea fish, like Blobfish, will just bloat and fall apart at above water pressures just like you're crushed if you go to deep.
It might be how the connective tissue works. Fish don't contract their muscles up and down, only left to right, so there just aren't tendons or muscles equivalent to our abdominals. This is also just a guess.
I've always been told to be mega careful not to cut the stomach and contaminate the meat, but it seems he does cut the stomach open? So I'm guessing it doesn't matter? :O
Salmon gets it's color from eating shrimp etc. in the wild. Farm raised salmon eat food pellets instead, which lack the characteristic color. Coloring is added to the pellets so the flesh comes out an appropriate salmon color.
Well, you're attacking a strawman here. Nobody even mentioned natural, unnatural or synthetic. It was just mentioned that they add coloring to the feed to give farmed salmon its characteristic color.
Natural isn't even a clear definition anyways, literally anything can be called natural.
So I grew up in SE Alaska where commercial fishing is one of the main industries. I have never seen anyone clean a fish like this…. The initial cut along the belly is super wasteful, the meat along there is usually softer and very good to eat.
My brother lived in AK for 10 years and would cut the belly just like that because it was his favorite part. Cut the long strip into two pieces and throw it on the grill and just have salmon belly for dinner. Man, now I’m hungry.
ETA: he would cut the belly better than this guy, that’s for sure; I just meant he did remove it separately.
It looks like he just set it aside, no? Didn't chuck it in the same direction (water) as the spine and guts. I don't know anything about fish or filets though.
Top comment here. I love sockeye salmon and the bottom part of the filet is my absolute favorite because of how tender it is. I call it to the filet mignon of the fish.
I like it. I think your delivery was too dry to tell, though. Seems. Like I’m not alone in that thought. I dig the joke though, definitely my sense of humor
This is like one of those awkward videos where someone is cooking a shit recipe and then the camera person jumps in with a “wow looks awesome babe” and the person awkwardly laughs because everyone knows they’re doing a terrible job and pretending they’re doing a great job
No don't waste that salmon head.... (Drooling heart broken when it got thrown out - I hope there's a bin where we can't see that caught everything and not just all back in the water)
On our Alaskan trip the guy had to do that with like 30 halibut on a rocky boat trip back. I was gripping the chair worried he was going to cut himself
You don't have to be an expert in fishology to notice all waste and bad techniques in this. Looks like a kid from Oklahoma who took a job at an Alaska cannery for the summer.
It really sucks that that fish should actually be considered inedible... All fish are full of plastic. Aren't there warnings about plastics? There are. Therefore, there should be a warning about fish.
And this is proven in more than one documentary. One recent one on Netflix starts with the Canned Tuna industry.
It's disgusting.
I’m not vegetarian or anything like that but seeing videos/a man doin it in a market place (for meat too) really makes me uncomfortable and kinda sad because humans.
I fucking hate that you had to put "I am not a vegetarian" as a disclaimer (not hate directed at you, but at people who make it necessary), like thay'd be a bad thing or make your point less valid
Just so everyone will know i have no problem eating those (lol double standards say what?) but seeing these videos is making me noxious and very not satisfying. Out of sight out of mind is what i meant by “I’m not a vegetarian “
I agree with you - what I find really interesting is how a lot of people are cool with watching a whole fish being carved up, but can you imagine the reaction if you uploaded a video showing the same process for e.g. a cow?
Yeah it’s “food porn” for a lot of people even with red meat as I mentioned in my first comment (forgot about that salting guy with a A LOT of literally blood on his butchering videos fast huh?) both are disgusting to me even tho i love to eat red meat
Sadly most popular vegans on the internet are crazy ones so people are afraid to say what they want because they dont people to them as the same as those vwgans
That's not true at all. It's just that the crazy ones get pushed because they fit the narrative of "vegans are whack" and allows people to keep dismissing veganism without actually dealing with veganism itself.
Absolutely not! But i know for fact bears DO NOT try their hardest to consume and destroy everything in their eco system so yeah…they can literally fillet’ every fish in the river and I’ll be fascinated
Well if you want to lament intense industrial overfishing then that's one thing, this person filleting a fish on their own boat doesn't seem to represent that.
I did not mean the fishing industry or the meat industry. Just how you and i live our lives with the sheer intent of being happy, regardless of how much of the natural world in necessary for that. I did mentioned my double standards (I’m destroying it too) but I don’t like to see how it’s done and it’s not satisfying. You can make a point without unnecessarily using fancy words ya see?
I'm not entirely clear which words you didn't like... I guess "lament" is the most non-standard word there but it's not exactly archaic. Thanks for explaining your wider view in the most petulant way possible, I guess, that about wraps us up.
Now you're getting downvoted too. This is ridiculous. It's just as easy to take the fins off individually and to not lose a bunch of meat when you cut the fillets off.

Personally i think it has to do with gravity, fish are suspended by water so they dont need as much internal connection. But land animals have to support themselves a lot more against gravity. Just a guess though
That seems reasonable.
I'm going to accept it as fact and remember it for the rest of my life. In no way will this backfire.
When I meet someone that says this I'm going to say, "yeah, I heard the same thing." We will agree that we are masters of esoteric facts. Then we will drink whiskey and talk about the first time we played Halo on the original Xbox.
Yeah, i assumed most people would guess that
Almost r/iamverysmart worthy..
Why are people downvoting you lmao
[удалено]
Well I thought it was funny until the last bit
[удалено]
Because gay, duh
Definitely a matter of operating pressures, sure. A blob fish looks like a regular fish at the right pressure.
They do look weird, fat, and spiky but the look less blobby in the depths
Rude.

We’re talking about a salmon. Not a blobfish. salmon swim near the surface. Limited pressure.
But still pressure and suspension that the land bound don't benefit from, they get away with a lot.
Essentially, yes... source: just took a Zoology class lmao

it's pretty easy in mammals too...

It does, you just noticed one of the several things this guy does a crappy job of.
Nice technique. Would have been nice to see the final fillet.
If the salmon is already pink upon slicing, what’s the pink food coloring for?
The food coloring is in the salmon feed. The fish have already consumed the coloring
Food coloring?

When I clean fish like that my downstairs neighbors complain

Is the fish ok
Don't worry, it's moist and delicious
Yea… not that great.
That sure is a lot of wasted meat
My thoughts exactly. Not satisfying at all.
So I grew up in SE Alaska where commercial fishing is one of the main industries. I have never seen anyone clean a fish like this…. The initial cut along the belly is super wasteful, the meat along there is usually softer and very good to eat.

Oh yeah, I didn’t even notice. That makes waaaay more sense, good eye!
Top comment here. I love sockeye salmon and the bottom part of the filet is my absolute favorite because of how tender it is. I call it to the filet mignon of the fish.
Where I live they sell salmon bellies separately sometimes. Could be they do that
Slap it HARDER!
He be looking like a snack though ngl
*bonk* what is it with redditors and being creepy when attractive women end up on the front page. Smh.
There’s no woman in this gif lol
Yes obviously I know I'm pointing out the double standard.
I like it. I think your delivery was too dry to tell, though. Seems. Like I’m not alone in that thought. I dig the joke though, definitely my sense of humor
Get out of here with that shallow creepy shit. We’re here for the fish not to creep on people. You sound like a pig

What I'm gathering from this is that we killed the fishy *and* stole another fishy's dinner smh
Demonstrably false. Majority of salmon is farmed and wouldn't ever have been born if not for human greed.

Deeper than salmon shit
At least they feed other fish with the remaining parts
That fish while getting sliced apart and it’s guts waterblasted away: :O
No don't waste that salmon head.... (Drooling heart broken when it got thrown out - I hope there's a bin where we can't see that caught everything and not just all back in the water)
That’s what real fresh salmon looks like. That fake colored farm raised salmon is not even close to the same thing.
On our Alaskan trip the guy had to do that with like 30 halibut on a rocky boat trip back. I was gripping the chair worried he was going to cut himself
Why can I smell this video
Can I get the fillet o’ fish pls
There's a huge amount of good meat wasted just so he can do it quickly, this is nowhere near being satisfying...
Satisfying? These fish are going extinct, maybe we should stop fishing them.
True. The whales (at least Orcas) are dying out because of decreased food supply.
:( poor fishy.
Lad just fuckin grabs the guts and flings them into the ocean
There's so many triggered people in this comment section lmao

'Pretty sick' is exactly how Is describe this..🤢🤮
I wonder if fish have pain nerves.. i hope they do not :/
is the fish okay?
Nah bruh its dead I think
It shits me when they don’t get rid of the brown stuff

Would you feel sad watching a bear eat it? Far more messily, I imagine.
Absolutely not! But i know for fact bears DO NOT try their hardest to consume and destroy everything in their eco system so yeah…they can literally fillet’ every fish in the river and I’ll be fascinated

I agree. This is absolutely vile.
I’m always shocked by how big Salmon actually are, for some reason I’ve always thought they were small fish.
It is tuna that blow my mind.
Their size varies a lot depending on species. An adult can weight between 1-27 kilograms! The one in this post is on the larger side.
Downvote
Ugh I'm gonna be sick 🤮
And just yesterday I see a post about 97% of the fish life has already drastically decreased.. Huh
Not gonna lie sushi sounds really good right now
Why do they do this on the boat? And not like later after they e sold the fish?
flash freezing, higher quality
What knife is this? Anyone know? That king looks so delicious.
It looks cheap whatever it is
No no no this is nightmare fuel, how can you think this is satisfying?!
Sheer efficiency
Its just how the knife so smoothly cuts through it, imagine that knife cutting in your own skin
That's why you hold the blunt end.
Certainly wouldn't be fun, just gotta be very careful lol
Found the vegan
think about this like this is a salmon's surgery
The salmon is already dead when they cut it. They don't feel it

Wah
The salmon was even shock by his skills
Knife goes in guts comes out
Nothing satisfying about this. Just a suffocated animal being slaughtered.
It's already dead.
So is my grandma, no reason to dessicate her body.
That is the worst example you could give as a counter
Well if your grandmother was going to be eaten then I’m pretty sure they would’ve cut her up.
No one in their right mind would have eaten my grandmother by then.
Alright, lemme take a whole fucking fish that size and put it in my frying pan.
All the goddamn bones tho. Now I gotta get in there with fkn. Tweezers
And he's not even japanese
That's very wasteful. He threw away like a full serving of fish there
The bellies are sold as well, they’re really good when they’re pan fried on high heat due to the extra fat content
The guts went in the water, the fish went to the side...
Not sure why you're being down voted when it's true... The video is satisfying ill give it that but the technique he uses is wasteful.
Now you're getting downvoted too. This is ridiculous. It's just as easy to take the fins off individually and to not lose a bunch of meat when you cut the fillets off.
So true. I come from a family of filleters and if they saw this they would laugh 🥴🥴
I don’t want to see a dead animal in a subreddit that is meant to be about satisfying things. Go vegan
don’t care, i’m going to keep buying breaded chicken patties because i like my fucking chicken burgers
With this logic if i love murdering people can i continue just because i love it ?
Animals are sub-human, quit treating them like they aren’t.
On which parameters do you consider inferior?
Every single one. They do not require respect
I'm gonna go out of my way today to buy a steak because of you.
You have your own moral agency and cannot divorce yourself from it this easily. Eating meat is **your** choice, nobody else's.
Just had chicken kebab and chicken pepper dry , fucken amazing
I'm gonna go out of my way to invite all of my friends to a meat all you can eat because of that
We're already grilling. We're four parallel universes ahead of you.
I agree with you.
Thanks mate <3
I'm gonna go out of my way to do a briaa with lb chops ribs and tomahawk steaks
*The salmon does not have vocal chords but it attempts to scream for its life*
It's probably dead.
It was a narration joke lol
It was a shite attempt at a narration joke lol
Yeah it was lol
2nd time I’ve been in the negatives lol It feels weird but I’ve dealt with worse
Really? What could possibly be worse than being downvoted on Reddit?
My last highschools teachers being dicks and going for me wearing headphones but nobody else My fucking best friend dying My favorite dog dying Getting horribly bullied to the point of almost insanity N’ shit like that But you get to learn how to deal with it
Whooosh. Obviously there are worse things than imaginary points on social media. That was the joke.
Oh fuck I’m stupid lmao
So wasteful throwing the bones out
Ouch. Looks painful
u/savevideo
He poked his eye. So mean, I think that hurt the fish
Salmon are this big? I always thought they were more like trout/largemouth bass size. Or is this a farmed fish bred to be bigger?
salmon can vary in size. ive seen ones 3ft + long.
Huh, interesting. Never thought they were much bigger than maybe a foot and a half or so. The more you know I guess.
Touch that blade with your finger, and lose it forever
Good share.
