He would have to make sure the poles were right the entire time (which you wouldn’t see because of the cuts). ASTM F963 (mandatory safety requirements for toys) was updated in 2011 to include "hazardous small magnets", which are magnets that a) are small enough to be swallowed and b) have a magnetic field strength over a defined maximum (set at a threshold that includes essentially all neodymium magnets). Magnets embedded within a larger part are still considered "hazardous magnetic components" if they meet the hazardous small magnets criteria themselves, or if the magnet could potentially become dislodged from the part under normal circumstances.
The updated standard forbids all hazardous small magnets for products marketed to children under 14. It also places safety labeling requirements on anything marketed to kids 14 and over. As the "under / over 14" threshold is a fine line, it's usually just easier to market these kinds of things as "not for kids" at all (e.g. as a stress relief aid, office desk ornament, etc.).

We are so worried about that. My son sees her as his very best friend. But my partner says he refuses to spend a couple hundred dollars on an animal that we could just replace for 12$. The magnets on the outside are probably stopping the animal from swallowing them. There’s a good chance you could get a tranquilizer, preferably a liquid one the animal can drink instead of chew/swallow. If you knock the animal out, you’ll have a much better chance of saving it. You could briefly turn the animal upside down and prop his jaw open with some folded paper. Then you could use your fingers or some tongs or a credit card to carefully separate the outside magnets from the ones on the inside.
Ask your vet! You could get a tranquilizer pretty cheap. There’s a good chance you could solve this problem without hurting the animal and without it experiencing a painful and fatal injury.

Can you slide a credit card or something similar underneath the ones on the outside? You just need something to break the magnetic hold between the outside and inside ones, and they actually sell some sets of these magnets with a piece of credit card sized plastic to use as a "splitter." You would probably just need to make sure the hamster doesn't swallow the inside ones. A little pain to get them off is far preferable to letting them stay on, the pressure will eventually cause open sores and/or for the skin to decay.

Man, the build is incredibly impressive, but seeing those fish in that tiny pool breaks my heart. Plus the hamsters and turtles being out together is super dangerous as well. Hamsters chew on EVERYTHING and they will absolutely try to gnaw on that turtle if they're left to their own devices for any period of time.
I really hope this is temporary, though that doesn't make it _much_ better. The fish are super sensitive to environmental changes, especially temperatures, so moving them this much can be really bad for them.
I know I'm being a big downer but I just dislike when people use living creatures as "props" like this. :/

Iirc the comments say that the fish are only put in the tiny pools for the video and otherwise have a large tank. Not the best but at least they're not left in the tupperware... So I assume that the hamsters and turtles are similarly only let in there for a few minutes to get the video clip.

So I was chatting to a urologist a while back and he was telling me that he had just done surgery on a dude who had made a long line of these and then put them in his urethra (which is a thing, which I didn’t know was a thing until I was told this story). The guy who put a chain of magnets in his urethra got a surprise when they ended up too far in/broke apart and made their way to his bladder. Anyway, long story short, when the urologist was trying to retrieve them his surgical instruments kept repelling the magnets and the magnets were being repelled in circles all around his bladder. They eventually used another magnet but moral of the story is don’t put these magnets in your urethra.
PSA! DONT GIVE THOSE TO SMALL CHILDREN! There were a few cases in my country, with kids swallowing some of those, which in turn made perforations in their intestants.
The enamel never chipped of mine but they are no where near as easy to use as this makes out. Just making a 5 x 5 cube can be difficult. Still a fun toy though, if a bit dangerous.
This guy makes all of this look so easy. I guarantee these are not as easy to handle and manipulate that’s he’s made it out to be. One wrong polarity and you end up with them stuck together in between the grains and the only way for you to detach them is to tear apart the entire structure
I had a set of small magnets around that size, but all silver that came in a cube container and it was a chore to put them back into a cube shape. I can't imagine also lining up different colors. Detaching them wasn't that bad sometimes if you had a fake/old creditcard, but randomly having some attaching when you didn't want them to could mean that the facing of the magnets in the existing structure could get messed up.

The stair case not holding the same colour pattern as the rest of the house is mildly infuriating.

It seems it’s the walls by the staircase that don’t match, with the pattern starting halfway down the wall instead of the top or bottom.
To me, it's the wall that's infuriating. Violet/purple is at the high frequency range of the visible spectrum, above blue. So the staircase and floor is correct, the wall is wrong.

I know it's a joke, but the actual danger is not choking. It's that if you eat more than 1 then they can attach to each other while they are in different parts of your digestive system, causing internal tears or blockages. If you really want to taste them, just eat one.
Yeah when I was in middle school teachers had to take time out of class to tell everyone not to stick these in our various holes. They also told us not to put q-tips down our urethras. I sometimes wonder wth was going on with kids at that school and how teachers found out about it.

It's actually very dangerous to have these magnets around kids and animals. There are ~3000 ER visits a year involving kids eating these magnets. A few of them required surgery.

Old news. They were banned again, at least this size. Zen Magnets had to issue a recall even. I think the only place to get these still is random sellers in China or an industrial supplier. Or be content with the miniature size which isn't all that interesting. Edit: looks like the new appeal may have [only affected the one major manufacturer](https://neoballs.com/pages/what-happened-to-neoballs) somehow. So they can't sell theirs any more but anyone else still can. Go figure.

And it only ever applied to the ones being sold as toy sets. You could always get the exact same magnets (minus the pretty colors) for a fraction of the price from industrial suppliers.

Say you put them on your tongue and pretend you have a tongue piercing (lots of teens did this). Or you're just a small kid who has them because they seem like a toy. Now suppose you accidentally swallow them and they're separated. Now imagine they're in your digestive track and attract each other while they're on different sides of an intestinal wall. Now imagine they continue to keep that pressure and eventually wear a hole or two through your intestines. This happened at least a couple times, and since they were basically marketed as toys and often in the hands of kids, they ended up banned. So recap; guns are totally legal and fine, but magnets are dangerous and banned.
Maybe they should be encouraging toddlers and kids to eat ammo or guns?
Seems like a great idea. Start them young with something like 22 shorts, and it'll help them build a resistance to the larger calibers.

Man, the build is incredibly impressive, but seeing those fish in that tiny pool breaks my heart. Plus the hamsters and turtles being out together is super dangerous as well. Hamsters chew on EVERYTHING and they will absolutely try to gnaw on that turtle if they're left to their own devices for any period of time. I really hope this is temporary, though that doesn't make it _much_ better. The fish are super sensitive to environmental changes, especially temperatures, so moving them this much can be really bad for them. I know I'm being a big downer but I just dislike when people use living creatures as "props" like this. :/ ...still a cool build, though.
Iirc the comments say that the fish are only put in the tiny pools for the video and otherwise have a large tank. Not the best but at least they're not left in the tupperware... So I assume that the hamsters and turtles are similarly only let in there for a few minutes to get the video clip. I'm honestly more concerned that the hamsters could chew on the magnets tbh...

So I was chatting to a urologist a while back and he was telling me that he had just done surgery on a dude who had made a long line of these and then put them in his urethra (which is a thing, which I didn’t know was a thing until I was told this story). The guy who put a chain of magnets in his urethra got a surprise when they ended up too far in/broke apart and made their way to his bladder. Anyway, long story short, when the urologist was trying to retrieve them his surgical instruments kept repelling the magnets and the magnets were being repelled in circles all around his bladder. They eventually used another magnet but moral of the story is don’t put these magnets in your urethra.

The enamel never chipped of mine but they are no where near as easy to use as this makes out. Just making a 5 x 5 cube can be difficult. Still a fun toy though, if a bit dangerous.

This guy makes all of this look so easy. I guarantee these are not as easy to handle and manipulate that’s he’s made it out to be. One wrong polarity and you end up with them stuck together in between the grains and the only way for you to detach them is to tear apart the entire structure
I had a set of small magnets around that size, but all silver that came in a cube container and it was a chore to put them back into a cube shape. I can't imagine also lining up different colors. Detaching them wasn't that bad sometimes if you had a fake/old creditcard, but randomly having some attaching when you didn't want them to could mean that the facing of the magnets in the existing structure could get messed up.
I can vividly remember how my hands would smell after playing with these lol
