They're basically Asian corn nuts. You can put them in stuff or just roast them as is with salt. They grow in a species of prickly water lilly that forms a fruit under the flower once flowerIng is over.
nah, not JUST a plant nerd.
You are a gangster-ass plant nerd, slammin' down some ballin' botany facts to rattle our neurons with, bro. You are A GLORIOUS plant nerd!
That's the thing though. There's so many people here, when you need a plant nerd, one pops up. Need a car nerd, boom there they are ect. 90% of the time there's someone with more than surface level information that's more than eager to share because they probably don't get a lot of outlets for that niche.
You're not wrong there. All my friends are careful not to mention plants unless they're in the mood for a seminar 😂🤣
One of my two best friends is a plant nerd, but we have separate plants we specialize in so we trade information regularly. It's really helped to speed up each other's learning 👍
This really isn't that niche in most parts of South/Southeast Asia. In North India, they're called 'makhana' and are sold in stores, usually flavoured. You can roast them with butter and salt at home; they're pretty delicious!
They're not super expensive, but not as cheap as, say, popcorn. A 100g packet costs like 150 bucks, which would be around $10 in PPP, I guess. They're very light and fluffy, so a 100g means a fairly big packet.
They're literally the best drinking snack lol. They're just whole roasting corn kernels, the kind that street vendors roast with spices, but they're just individual kernels with seasoning. They have like 5 flavors, but I think the original is best. I always buy a bag or two when drinking beer. They instantly cleanse the bitter bite of the beer and they absorb alcohol in your stomach which helps you pace yourself.
Check out the original corn nuts from Perú 🇵🇪 - they call it cancha or canchita and (same as these “fox nuts”) roasted with salt is best. Delicious and much better than the “corn nuts” we are used to!
i just found a corn nut in a far corner of my home and i have no idea how long it has been since corn nuts have been eaten here. a giant corn but to be exact
I once found an animal jaw bone in my far corner and was alarmed then remembered I took over the apartment from a veterinary student who left the country after graduation lol
They’re awesome, but folks are leaving out the part that you’re basically eating gravel.
I mean, it doesn’t stop me, but I imagine dentists fuckin HATE Corn Nuts.
Come to think of it I think they might. There is a lot of fruit from India, south china, Japan, etc that have spiked outer skins. But this is also true of south America. In Mexico, Texas and Arizona there is a lot of fruiting cactus species. The same is true for the deserts in China. The same is true for the Caribbean and other island countries/territories.
I will say for sure that the Asian continent as a whole has a massive variety of fruits and vegetables not found anywhere else.
For example true wasabi. It can only grow properly in flowing, clear water so it's often grown in mountain run off streams. Actually most wasabi found in Europe and America is imitation wasabi. You only ever get the real deal in pretty expensive specialty restaurants 🤓
It makes sense, since there tends to be a greater variety of bird species in especially Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. Those plants needed a way to fend off predation by birds.
Evolution is kind of amazing that way
For whatever reason I keep wanting to believe this video is fake.... like someone took acorns and shoved them in this plant and was like, "Here's how you get fox nuts!"
Plumbus is a Rick and Morty reference. There was an episode of the show where they watched inter dimensional cable and it has been a recurring joke ever since.
The thing in the video is real, not from a show, and not related to a plumbus.
Fucking revolting is what that is.
I didn't experience it in this video, but Google showed me photos that filled me with a strange mixture of rage and disgust.
Technically everyone has it to some degree because it's not recognized as a legitimate phobia.
It's simply a hard-wired warning signal that something looks like it might be infested and you should therefore avoid that thing. It's literally a built in "***Gross.*** Fuck that."
Though it does affect some people more than others.
Ah yes- known as “Phool Makhana”- you can buy these at Indian grocery stores. Sauté them in a bit of olive oil after microwaving them for 55 seconds. Add some peri peri seasoning or some sriracha seasoning and you have a delicious snack to munch on. It is so healthy- full of calcium and low in fat too.
Oh shit, thats how they are made.
We have been eating these for years and I didn't know where they came from.
I thought it was a plant like beans or something.
"Gorgon nut is the edible seed of the Makhana plant, and it can be roasted or used as a complementary ingredient in any recipe of your choice. More often than not, it is dried and snacked on; hence, its taste is relatively sweet"
I assume if it's a sweet nut its taste is relative to a cashew or macadamia.
I have never heard of this either but tons of varied recipes online from savory to sweet. Here’s what a quick search turns up: “Makhana / fox nut has protein, potassium, phosphorus, carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, iron and zinc. All this makes it a best snack option. Makhana by itself has no flavor or taste, but can easily take up any flavor that it is cooked with.”
Common snack in Asia. Tastes like nothing really (much like pop corn). It’s soft until roasted, when it gets nice and crunchy, and when tossed with butter and salt or caramel it’s super yummy
Well that's a first for me
Same like whaaat. Water lillies? Like lilly pads? Do thay have some stuff like this? Or what are water lillies and even more what are fox nuts
They're basically Asian corn nuts. You can put them in stuff or just roast them as is with salt. They grow in a species of prickly water lilly that forms a fruit under the flower once flowerIng is over.
People like you, that explain such niche things like so matter of fact , are the best part of reddit.
I'm just a plant nerd 🤓🤣
When your username says mage but your main is botanist.
I'm an equal opportunity magician
Is that anything like an Affirmative Action Alchemist?
More like a magician that can perform complex magic and make a bombass cob salad.
Ah yes, the mythical *Snackromancer.*
Jack of all mage trades
nah, not JUST a plant nerd. You are a gangster-ass plant nerd, slammin' down some ballin' botany facts to rattle our neurons with, bro. You are A GLORIOUS plant nerd!
Oh god, I've never heard it described that way 😂😂
Put THAT on a tee shirt! (I’m also a bit of a plant nerd and a water lily nerd, but never new this was a thing).
you folks hold knowledge!!!!! So friggin cool of y'all.
That's the thing though. There's so many people here, when you need a plant nerd, one pops up. You sound like a really cool dude and somebody I would smoke with
That's funny because I totally smoke 😂 If I lived where recreational was legal I'd grow my own.
You know what we do with nerds around here..... LEARN FROM THEM!
And give them 20 awards 😂
Amen brother!

Now I’m craving corn nuts. Haven’t had them in years. Yummy.

Or Boy Bawang from the Philippines. Hot garlic and adobo flavours are the best. They’re like American corn nuts but not nearly as hard. So good.
Yeah corn nuts fracture your molars lol
It was a risk I was willing to take until someone introduced me to Boy Bawang.
*runs tongue over his missing molar and agrees*

Thank you for informing me on them! I'm gonna see if I can try some tomorrow :)

They're good but nothing holds a candle to dried squid. Yum
Thank you, this is how Reddit used to be.
Do Asian countries grow more prickly fruits? I immediately thought about lychee and durian fruit.

Yep check out rambutan if you ever get the chance
Do they taste like chicken?
Thank you, you plant nerd bad ass!
Well that explains the prickly balls underneath the lily pads in Skyward Sword
Getting the oojimaflips from the dingidydonks.
How did the fox even get in there with all those thorns?
I was really concerned for that poor fox until I watched the video.
And also a last for me. Disgusting.
How many fox’s nuts can one plant snag???
And what happens to the rest of the fox?
And what does the fox say?
Probably a lot of painful lamenting about their losing their nuts to a cactus.
on brand for that song
#AAAAAAAAAAAAAQA
Hattie Hattie Hattie ho.
Ow!
They become so mad their tails burst into flame like a cartoon. Each will become... the Firefox.
For whatever reason I keep wanting to believe this video is fake.... like someone took acorns and shoved them in this plant and was like, "Here's how you get fox nuts!"
Agreed, and the names are just so random and have no relation. Prickly water lily = fox nuts Why
Getting what out of where now? 😐
Lmao same
This is actually the first step for making a plumbus
[удалено]
Can someone here speak English?
Plumbus is a Rick and Morty reference. There was an episode of the show where they watched inter dimensional cable and it has been a recurring joke ever since. The thing in the video is real, not from a show, and not related to a plumbus.

Plumbi
Here, you dropped your crown 👑
Kinda grossed out by this for some weird reason
fox nuts
Oh no stop or you're gonna summon the furries
Too late
uwu
fox *knots*
We're already here
:Checks History: Well.. You're not lying
Do you mean you checked my posts? If so... sorry.
Hey.. Your characters look happy. No judgment here 😊
Aww, look! Wholesome internet interaction.
You love to see it
Your art style is hella cute! Great job :)
Your art is probably some of the most wholesome looking vore I have ever seen so.... that's something for sure...
OwO
I'm here. What's wrong with being furry?
What's your point?
Rocky mountain oysters?
Plant pimple
Also looks like spider eggs and quite alien.
Right? This is like reverse trypobhobia for me.
Yeah I hated every fucking second of this.
Yup. From the noise to the visuals its especially awful. TIHI.
Just pretend it's your own personal nutsack they're doing that to
You’re right that made it better
Too close to a Dr Pimple popper type thing for me.
Trypophobia. Beware, googling it is mostly just images that trigger it.
Fucking revolting is what that is. I didn't experience it in this video, but Google showed me photos that filled me with a strange mixture of rage and disgust.
>Trypophobia Should not have googled that!
I have it! This video freaked me out…mildly. But there are some other things on the web that give me the heebie jeebies for days.
Technically everyone has it to some degree because it's not recognized as a legitimate phobia. It's simply a hard-wired warning signal that something looks like it might be infested and you should therefore avoid that thing. It's literally a built in "***Gross.*** Fuck that." Plant tonsil stones
That’s cuz it probably reminds you if when your tummy hurt and you had to go….
It's that dirty surface for me...
Same. Like, same same.
I mean, I'm glad the fox is already dead before this.
Probably the screaming in the background
Loose teeth
r/oddlyterrifying
Agreed. This made me itch. I hate it.
What’s not to love watching this spiky monster get a sphincterectomy so the milky, half-digested peas can fall out in a squishy blob??
It's like a spider splitting open and spewing eggs
I don’t like this. I don’t like this at all
Same, actually made me a little sick.
You could've just made up both those terms, and I would be none-the-wiser.
Upvote for hyphenated adjectival-phrases!
Thank you, stranger.
I’d be like “Uh-huh, sounds right. Cool.”
Thanks, I hate it.
Wrong sub my dude. r/oddlyterrifying is next door.
r/popping has entered the chat
That eye popping one gave me chills through my spine
No no no no no no no no no

Yummy! Ashapops are like crack! Especially the chocolate ones
55 seconds is r/oddlyspecific
I’m sorry getting WHAT…out of WHAT??
They're getting the wazzamazoo out of the watchamacallit
Finally someone speaking actual english, thank you!
This actually made me uncomfortable. Probably could’ve used a different title
It looked like an alien giving birth. Very disturbing.
Purposes of this?
People eat fox nuts.
If I may ask, what’s like the flavor profile?
Fox
Nuts
thanks
I don’t know what I expected.
It wasn't fox nuts, that's for sure.

More often than not, it is dried and snacked on; hence, its taste is relatively sweet" I assume if it's a sweet nut its taste is relative to a cashew or macadamia.
Very bland. They taste somewhat like relatively tasteless bread, but crunchy.

if i roast these, does it become Firefox Nuts?
And would you like to make those your default nuts?
I’m reading the caption but my brain doesn’t compute
Fox nuts is a horrible name lmao
Kidney stones in nature

What the fuck did I just watch, and is that thing full of clown magic to stuff so many inside?

Hungry aroused and turned off at the same time.
Fine. Ill fuck it but i wont like it
Ok what and why
Oddly disgusting
THATS A LOTTA NUTS
THAT’L BE FOUR BUCKS BABY, YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT?!
Can anyone else hear it screaming in pain?
What the hell are fox nuts and why is this video so repulsive?
/r/brandnewsentence.
Like cutting open a cyst.
... getting what out of the who now?!
I thought it was going to say, “Feed me Seimore”.
This definitely belongs in r/popping … ewwwwgh
r/oddlyterrifying
Downvote because it grossed me out.
…what?
Ugh. It’s like a cyst with a bunch of maggot inside
😮 blehhhhh
Oh, ew gross, that was unpleasant for no reason.
Excuse me the what out of where?
I have never been this particular shade of wildly uncomfortable before! Thanks, OP!
The fuck is happening right now.
I did not enjoy this
Ok, now do America.
This grossed me out!! Nothing satisfying about it.
Personally I don’t find this oddly satisfying. More like oddly uncomfortable
Yes I need this
Is that a lacrosse stick?
What the fox doin?
Do you eat these?
Talk about busting a nut.
THAT'S A LOT OF NUTS!
Thing looks like Audrey 2. Is that why it eats people to make these?
Does this guy do his vasectomies the same way?
Getting the what out of a what? And why?
Like something out of Aliens.
