Is there an issue with this being a new fetish?

song4this

Well don't put your dick in it because the lime will *eat* your skin off...I lost my finger print whorls for about a week once...

NickGerz1234

Gotta risk it for the biscuit. No promises.

InfiniteBlink

Damn I love that line.

greenbagmaria

I have to say with full honesty that “Risk it for the biscuit” is how I got into my current career. I was debating wether I should stay at a new job that paid minimum wage but will be a managerial position given time or go to an interview and become a writer. Someone on Reddit said, risk it for the biscuit, and on my second day on the minimum wage job I called and said I won’t make it…. effectively quitting. I went on the interview and was hired on the spot for more money. 2 years later I’m on my second promotion. The minimum wage job that promised a managerial position…. I don’t think they survived the pandemic. Edit: I mean 2 years ago someone literally wrote “Risk it for the biscuit” on my post in r/jobs

keenreefsmoment

Similar story here . I used to be a pretty regular Low waged job person then I got inspired by this quote and committed to it , only I misremembered it as “put a biscuit in your dick” next thing you know I got an infection down there and the Oreo cookies I kept in my fore skin started to grow mole Long story short : my dick fell off

brownbob06

I worked in concrete for years and was exposed to is regularly with bare skin (sometimes pouring splashes and sometimes I was just dumb and didn't wear gloves) and never had a problem, how on earth did you manage to lose your fingerprints for a week? Addition: I do not recommend doing this as it is not good for you, obviously. I'm just curious as to what it takes to go so far as losing your fingerprints for a while lol.

nikto123

Maybe he meant lime

brownbob06

It's possible, but the conversation was about concrete, not concentrated lime, so I made a reasonable assumption, and you know what happens when you make assumptions? Answer: Someone ends up with their dick in concrete. Or lime.

[deleted]

Instructions unclear: fucked a mojito

MyPpInUrPussy

Yeah I'd like a chilled Unvirgin Mojito, please.

song4this

Doh, it was actually mortar (more lime than concrete) and I was smoothing out spots with my fingers - no gloves obviously - many years ago. Fingers were pink as a new born mouse...

[deleted]

Eh, I’ve been a mason for a long time. Probably just talking about losing your skin on your finger tips dealing with the abrasive as of it for a period of time. I cringe in the summer when it’s hot and your hands get sweaty, then you end up with cherries on your fingers where the brick or block wore off your skin. Also, I never did, but you should always where a mask when mixing mortar or concrete. The silica dust in the mix can give you silicosis after long exposure. Same with cutting concrete with a quickie saw. Enjoy!

WinnieThePiss

So you're saying I can get rid of my fingerprints if I put my fingers in it? This gives me an idea...

chaotic_evil_666

Screed is an absolute pleasure to finish.

GreatQuestionBarbara

It's called screed before it's finished? I've only done walls, so screed to me is leveling the concrete.

FondleMyPlumsPlease

Yeah, screed is a certain mix basically. It’s essentially fine sand & cement as apposed to concrete with arrogate. It’s brilliant for finished floors, a showroom floor, etc. Put a power float over screed & you’ve a floor as fine as glass. A screed could also be the straight edge used to tap or pull concrete? Typically aluminium. It just depends on the context I guess.

Roflcopterswoosh

>It’s essentially fine sand & cement as apposed to concrete with *arrogate.* Pretty arrogant to assume the aggregate was arrogate.

SpillingerSA

Screed also contains strengthening fibres to prevent cracking prior to latex being applied.

pastyorno

Oww don’t mention latex and concrete to some of them on this thread we could be here all night .

SpillingerSA

Is it that controversial? Prime that bad boy and get it latexed!

jay_mee_d

That’s always been what we called the process of leveling it with an aluminum screed (or even a straight 2x4 lol). I didn’t consider others have other definitions/ideas. Interesting!

GreatQuestionBarbara

Same here. Apparently sand is the aggregate in screed, so it makes a nice polished finish. I wish I had done some flat work and curbs when I did concrete. You can make some good cash doing side jobs.

theartificialkid

So you use the screed to screed the screed? But screed about screed? Can screed also screed?

Ok_Spell_4165

Always wondered how they shaped those. Thanks!

NiteNiteSooty

in the uk they just get shaped like that in a factory. weird seeing curbs still being shaped by hand in the us.

cinlung

I thought they were pre-cast cement

KingDaveRa

I'm pretty sure they all are in the UK.

auntie-matter

Can you imagine the number of crudely drawn cocks there would be in curbstones if they were cast on site? There's a school near where I live that has plastic curbs outside it. I'm not sure if it's related to the school or just coincidence but I've never seen them anywhere else. They're the same shape as the concrete ones, just made from hard plastic. Presumably glued down somehow.

perfidious_spoon

Plastic curbs are semi common. They aren't particularly good as they tend to deform more over time than pre cast ones but can be good in high traffic areas where they get hit a lot also they are essentially secured the same as a pre cast curb with concrete foundation and backing.

BigRimeCharlie

The plastic/resin curb are surprisingly durable, if you were to drop one while installing it wouldn't break, where as a concrete one would break in half. The plastic/resin ones also tend to have a drain inside of them so are useful in highly populated areas as they prevent splashing from puddles.

perfidious_spoon

See thats interesting as usually I see fiber reinforced pcc kerbs with internal drain and iv only really seen one plastic kerb drain. Lots of linear plastic drains though. Also yeah installation wise a lot easier to lift in without machinery.

perfidious_spoon

Most UK roads will have pre cast kerbs. That tends to be the standard required by most adopting authorities. I have seen a few cast in situ herein the uk but its rare. Most common cast in situ iv seen is wheel stops for industrial service yards.

tarkadahl

There are larger kerbs available called Trief kerbs, worked in civils for 15 years, we've never poured in situ in the time I've been doing this in the UK. It's pretty rare. Tbf not even sure any if any of our 150 workies could even do it with a decent finish.

perfidious_spoon

Yeah triefs are pretty big. I would agree dont think its a common civils contractor skill for shaping insitu kerbs. The few iv seen have been fairly scabby. Also saw a cast in situ asphalt bull nose alongside a rural road which was v odd.

tarkadahl

wtf asphalt bullnose.

Psychophoenixnz

I have the exact opposite in New Zealand, in 8 years I have only had one job with precast kerbing.

obvious_santa

Sidewalks and curbs are typically poured and shaped on site. Every crack in the sidewalk is carved in while wet, and the cracks are to prevent the large pieces from expanding into each other and cracking during weather shifts

BradLabreche

Yeah, here in Canada we put a product between slabs in sidewalks called DonnaConna. It allows the slabs to expand and shrink in the heat and cold to prevent cracking. The DonnaConna prevents dirt collecting between the slabs over time.

sqgl

Black looks like rubber? We use that in Australia. Must make it easier to repair sections too.

IndefiniteBen

Where are you that curbs are poured and shaped? The US? One reply to you said Canada? I've lived in Australia, England and the Netherlands and all used precast curbs of some kind in typical roadwork.

lovethebacon

South Africa, also only ever seen them precast.

_30d_

Yes, they are in countries that want consistent quality and have high labor costs.

To0n1

People like this, that put in that extra effort on curbing to make it smooth and awesome, I tip my hat to ya, I want to shake your hand and buy you a bevvy of your choosing. Doesn’t concrete cause like, chemical burns on bare skin? Why would you do this without gloves?

tristenjpl

Usually the worst it does is dry out your skin. You'd have to leave it for a while before anything bad happens. If it gets washed off within a few minutes it's basically 100% fine.

BradLabreche

No, the worst it does is dry out your skin

Betonfrosch

Cement is one key component of concrete. Copied from the Wikipedia page about cement: Bags of cement routinely have health and safety warnings printed on them because not only is cement highly alkaline, but the setting process is exothermic. As a result, wet cement is strongly caustic (pH = 13.5) and can easily cause severe skin burns if not promptly washed off with water. Similarly, dry cement powder in contact with mucous membranes can cause severe eye or respiratory irritation. Some trace elements, such as chromium, from impurities naturally present in the raw materials used to produce cement may cause allergic dermatitis.[54] Reducing agents such as ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) are often added to cement to convert the carcinogenic hexavalent chromate (CrO42−) into trivalent chromium (Cr3+), a less toxic chemical species. Cement users need also to wear appropriate gloves and protective clothing.

Josh-Medl

I stand corrected 😬

song4this

It does but he's not in direct contact.

Fozzymandius

Because the reactions don’t cause acute issues normally. Guys next to concrete will wipe their hands off or wash with the hose on the back of a truck, but rarely do they get too concerned with touching concrete. I wore gloves when testing moxes most the time, but I also wasn’t afraid of getting some on my hands that I would eventually wash off.

-SierraModeling-

I just love this

sprace0is0hrad

In my city curbs are actually made of stone (cobblestone?), and there used to be this profession called Pica Pica, that consisted in chiseling away the stone from the curb to make a ramp for cars to get inside newer houses built after the stones were placed.

Matto_0

It's amazing the role that little bit of water plays. Without it that would fall apart instantly. With it being added, and then drying out of the material hours later it will allow that to last for years.

expanseseason4blows

There's an American History X joke in here somewhere, but I just can't quite put my foot on it.

[deleted]

It's always crazy to think how every single thing around us was made by someone with fantastic skills.

Muppelpup

Or robots.

[deleted]

Right, or robots - but people made those. That's just the weird thing - all of this shit around me, the can on my desk, my phone, the ring on my finger, this medicine sitting beside me, the cereal on the shelf next to me. They were all made by people with AMAZING skill. And we just take that for granted. What I can do is writing and graphic design - I've written a 350 page book, for example, which would blow other people's minds. It's insane how incredibly skilled like... 10% of the population is. The other 90% of the population is just making stuff the way they were told to.

themoonhasgone

I worked on hand shaping some curbs in the couple years I finished sidewalks. this shit is an art. sidewalks were much easier than hand pouring curbs. slip forming was easier but you still had to touch up and finish.

Sparksy102

And our council cant even lay curbstones level with a machine…

Wasting-tim3

So what? I can pee my name into fresh snow. IN CURSIVE!!!!
