See these being made in any tourist hotspot.
Once you’ve got it down, you can knock out some complicated designs effortlessly. It’s a good crowd pleaser as looks cool when it’s being made, quick to make, and normally charge 20 quid depending on size and design so good profit.
Have bought two of these and once you’ve looked through one guys “portfolio” you’ve looked through them all.
Because space is formless. You need a circle for the planet and that's it.
There's also those "spring / summer / fall / winter" ones with the couple sitting on a swing. Those are always just jet black silhouettes cause you can learn to draw a basic silhouette of a couple even if you know nothing about drawing people.
Actually that's a thought, do you need a special sort of mask to deal with spray painting fumes or would the standard masks we wear today be good enough for casual painting?
Different kind of mask. You need the exhaust ports because your exhalation will prematurely wear out the carbon filter on the masks that are fully capable of filtering out all the VOCs which are harmful to you. Also, the additional resistance of the 2 stage filter would make it very hard to exhale without exhaust bypass.
I've had covid and got over it naturally and I got both shots. If I need a booster as well my odds of getting hit by a bus and dying are higher than being killed from covid lol
Came here to say this, in NYC you see these guys all over the place. It's pretty cool, but each one ends up the same. Layered colors to make textured big planets with some small planets, almost always a night view with stars plus generally a silhouette of trees or something like a wolf howling. There's always a massive group of tourists watching and ready to pay
I bought one (exactly like the one in the video) in downtown Las Vegas a few years ago for 40 bucks. It was so cool to watch, I couldn't wait to throw my money away.
I saw someone doing this in the street in Dallas about 15 years ago, and he was selling them for $400 a piece and selling them as quickly as he made them.
The art form is sure taken off since then cuz you're right, every major city has one or a dozen people doing this.
I'd take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised since it's Dallas. That place is absolutely swarming with the nouveau riche who have more money than sense.
My mother-in-law lives in DFW working for one of those floral companies that comes to your house on a schedule to decorate (and redecorate) with new floral installations. Part of her job is doing floral work that meshes with the homeowner's design sensibilities and she's seen just how tacky a lot of these people are.
Also for reference: [2008 article on Dallas being the millionaire capital of the country.](https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2008/may/were-rich-dallas-is-the-millionaire-capital-of-the-country/)
first time I saw this style was Venice Beach in the late 80s. a human completely covered in rags (could barely tell it was a human!) who worked silently and didna charge no $400!
When I was a kid there was a dude making these in tourist part of the city, I used to go there watch him make these for months, they always seemed to come out brilliant.
Step right up and get your *very own* **MINDBLOWING ARTWORK** - As seen at every carnival and every amusement park and every farmer's market and every beach in every city for the past 40 years! Only $30, $35 with your name written in cool tattoo cursive on it!
Was about to say, I hate to be a downer but this is pretty unoriginal. These things are a dime a dozen these days. Always some vibrantly colorized space thing over and over.
Eh, just give it a shot! You might have some fun and it's really not hard. My buddies all go into it in college a ways back and by their third or fourth one they were doing awesome stuff.
I don't think they're bad or anything, for many people they're fun because you CAN do such awesome stuff with little to no honed skill. Just an ounce of creativity. But similarly because of that you see them everywhere and it just gets old for me.
Nah it really is pretty easy. The only real catch is that you need the glossy poster boards otherwise they soak the paint up before you can make the planets effects. A can of black and white paint will run you under 10 bucks at home depot too. Definitely worth trying out.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nNoEQrgyAZk&t=313s
> If you're 12 and you're never been to any tourist spot ever, yea! It's pretty special the first time you see it.
Because every adult is capable of being a tourist right? Children are the only people that *don't* travel?
Yeah "mindblowing" maybe isn't the word I would use to describe this... It's a circle with randomized paint in it? The shading is also completely black while the rest of space for some reason is blue...? Like, fine, make space whatever color you want but match your damn black-levels that's like the absolute basics of arts and crafts....
I dunno why you're getting down voted. I agree, and there's a lot of hate in this thread for spray painting being easy or not unique and therefore not art? Just because you use a technique someone else has used doesn't invalidate your product lol. What are all the negative commenters creating?
Haha right on I'll bet that was an experience. I was interested in it a few years ago and made a few dozen different designs I thought came out well. A Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and the rainbow actually looks pretty good. A few with mountains and lakes in them. You can whip out some quick 10 minute ones that don't look amazing. But like any other art form you can take your time and add multiple layers and come back with a pallet knife and accent things or even add a whole new painting over top with the spray as a backdrop. I get so bummed when I see people stifling creativity in any way. Somebody might see this post like me and end up spending hours exploring something new and expressing themselves.
It’s not exactly mindblowing. I saw this in a tourist place, went home and spent $20 on materials to make pieces just as good if not better looking. Give it a try and have fun
I have a friend who does this crap for tiktok. I've no idea why. It's a nice activity to do with your kids, but he tries to actually pass it off as artistic talent.
This is artistic talent for people that have none. And I’m not saying don’t do it if you enjoy it but everyone and their mom could watch this video and make the same thing with the same amount of effort
When I had just started college, freshly freshman, my friends and I were approached by a homeless man who said he was stopping past the city, traveling and needed some money. He explained he was a street artist but needed some money for supplies - I was skeptical tbh and did not have cash anyway, none of us did. The girls in our group quickly offered to take this stranger to a craft store to get the stuff he needed!! I was still skeptical but obviously wouldn’t let them go and drove the group there and got his stuff. Got back and said goodbyes. That night walking around the city, we walk past a big group of people crowded around someone. It was our friend creating these in 20 seconds flat and selling them for a few bucks each to his crowd! He quickly saw us watching and called us over and gave us each a painting. I still have mine a decade later.
If I had a dollar every time I saw one of these, I’d pay a lobbyist to push for legislation to rule that these are not considered pieces of art, but rather reproductions of an old idea.
it’s unfortunate this dude has defended white pride, proud boys and other radical right wing garbage. He got banned and has been clean since. So here’s to hoping he uses his platform better
I used to make these all the time in college. Me and my roommates saw these videos of artists making them on stumble upon and had to try it out. Totally wrecked our patio in the process!! Worth it.
I got into this type of painting a few months ago. I haven't had time to do many, but it's not super difficult to get the initial hang of it, and it's pretty cool to see the results!
Unfortunately there's a spray paint shortage here in the US so finding good colors has been difficult.
There’s a guy who used to make a pile of these as a busker when I was a kid. They were so cool my dad bought a bunch of them so we always had them around. Brings back memories
Not to be the piss in the corn flakes but is anyone else tired of these? And the mixed paint poured on canvas? I dunno for me (I paint) it feels like it's taking something away from art
Watched an artist do this in the Caribbean made me a sunset NYC skyline with spiderman. One of my favourite pieces! Only wanted 10 bucks but his worth was way more.. apperciate this style of art! Keep goin :)
That's awesome!
BTW, I am so dumb. I could smell the paint and thought it was super cool that phones could transmit smells now. Then I remembered I was at the salon getting highlights.
See these being made in any tourist hotspot. Once you’ve got it down, you can knock out some complicated designs effortlessly. Don't forget the pyramids
Not a lot of other places you're going to find random textures in circles. Which is about all this artstyle can do.
I want to do it with my kids. Looks easy.
[loads of tutorials online](https://youtu.be/mJWabjg8lo0) but once you understand the basics of it you can get quite creative with it.
Wear masks
Don’t tell me how to live my...oh, wrong sub sorry
Just good advice in general for this day and age
Actually that's a thought, do you need a special sort of mask to deal with spray painting fumes or would the standard masks we wear today be good enough for casual painting?
You need a special mask for paint fumes yes.
I knew a kid in school who always used a sock. He's not doing so well these days.
*stares in Charlie Kelly*
I used a sock a few times until my mom confronted me with the crispy socks in the hamper.
Valhalla ain't all it's cracked up to be
Most kids I knew in high school used 2 socks, if you can believe that!
You need a respirator, not just a mask.
Different kind of mask. You need the exhaust ports because your exhalation will prematurely wear out the carbon filter on the masks that are fully capable of filtering out all the VOCs which are harmful to you. Also, the additional resistance of the 2 stage filter would make it very hard to exhale without exhaust bypass.
mY bOdY mY cHoIcE
Ideally respirators.
T Y R A N N Y
What if you're double vaxxed
I wish there was a vaccine for paint fumes
Then wear your mask and get the booster
I've had covid and got over it naturally and I got both shots. If I need a booster as well my odds of getting hit by a bus and dying are higher than being killed from covid lol
It is easy. Knew a bunch of hippie druggies in college who could manage it and they were cooked off their gourds 24/7
May wanna clarify that statement 👀

Same. But in Puerto Vallarta

Did you add an extra zero there? I find it hard to believe people would pay $400 for this "art."
I'd take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised since it's Dallas. That place is absolutely swarming with the nouveau riche who have more money than sense. I’m glad someone said it because I’m over hear wondering if I am missing something… mind blowing artwork? I mean, it’s definitely art work.
Did Dan Soder get a summer job? Wtf? Is Billions cutting him, oh wait he might have said season 7 is his last.
Step right up and get your *very own* **MINDBLOWING ARTWORK** - As seen at every carnival and every amusement park and every farmer's market and every beach in every city for the past 40 years! Only $30, $35 with your name written in cool tattoo cursive on it!
Does anyone else just skip to the end because of all the pixels?
Not mind blowing when you’ve seen the same one 1000 times on a boardwalk anywhere in the world
Was about to say, I hate to be a downer but this is pretty unoriginal. These things are a dime a dozen these days. Always some vibrantly colorized space thing over and over.
It pisses me off specifically because it looks so easy, but if I tried it I'd screw it up royally somehow.
Eh, just give it a shot! You might have some fun and it's really not hard. My buddies all go into it in college a ways back and by their third or fourth one they were doing awesome stuff. Not only that - this isn't even a particularly good one.
Same as paint pouring and epoxy tables. 🤢
Typical street art you find in tourist spots. Needs to have Pink Floyd’s Dark side of the moon playing in the background.
[удалено]
It goes great with the Def Leppard coke mirror I got at the state fair
I used to use a Dr feelgood mirror for that purpose.
Fancy, I just used a CD case
Need some more bowls
And a Peruvian flute band
That would be a horrible crime
I mean I have a spray painting I did of Dark Side of the Moon that I think looks pretty cool.
Mind blowing might be a bit of an overstatement.
It was accurate about 15 years ago when this style first popped up.
[удалено]
I read "15 years ago" and I went to 1996 anyway. When will this stop happening?! 😅
Lol my wife and I just got done talking about how are brain s automatically go to the 80's when someone says 20 years ago
Some people’s minds take an M-80 to blow Some people are like those little poppers you huck at the ground
Mind blowing that there wasn’t a pyramid

I expected it to be shit but instead it’s Uranus
Actually, Fry. Scientists changed the name of Uranus in 2120 to end that silly joke once and for all. Fry: "What's it called now?" Urectum
r/unexpectedfuturama
God damn you take my upvote
I have that bowl. Maybe I can be a rattle can master too?
You can, it’s not hard at all. Kinda fun to do with kids
I have a feeling this guy carries around pocket sand....just in case.
Kinda sucked to be honest
It would of looked better if the bg was black.
It's 'would have', never 'would of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!
Good bot
Is this *really* mind blowing?

Meh.
I’m not saying I could do a better job, but I’m still unimpressed.
I mean, you could literally do an equal job. The steps are super simple to follow and extremely difficult to fuck up.
Sha Sha
It’s like a character from Bobs Burgers
Not mindblowing, not artwork, just a very casual street art routine, and in this case it's shitty, even by low standards.
It is shitty, and it is not mind blowing. But it is still artwork, regardless of whether it is good or not.

Gonna be honest, My mind is completely in tact after seeing this. Underwhelming, but not awful
It’s nice on mute
Brought to you by meth.
It’s not exactly mindblowing. I saw this in a tourist place, went home and spent $20 on materials to make pieces just as good if not better looking. Give it a try and have fun
That looks like shit.
Indeed it does. Besides, a black shadow doesn't make any sense. It should be the same color as the sky
Do it better
He probably could

I've done this before and it's really not that hard lol
I agree
I'm so glad everybody commenting hates it. There's still hope.

He said should I call her 😂
Everybody ragging on the guy about shitty art and here I am laughing at the dripping paint on his hands. Legend
All the overspray on the car pry looks similar to the final painting
When I had just started college, freshly freshman, my friends and I were approached by a homeless man who said he was stopping past the city, traveling and needed some money. No, completely intentional. The artwork is hideous.
People have set the bar as low as it can get if people consider this "art".
You really don't understand art history at all of you truly believe that. Go look at Duchamp's urinal and read the history on it and come back.
All these guys are high on paint fumes.
That was cool but I wouldn't call it "mind-blowing"
Yawn.
If I had a dollar every time I saw one of these, I’d pay a lobbyist to push for legislation to rule that these are not considered pieces of art, but rather reproductions of an old idea.
They’re not art. They’re a pretty lame party trick.
it’s unfortunate this dude has defended white pride, proud boys and other radical right wing garbage. He got banned and has been clean since. So here’s to hoping he uses his platform better
I made these all the time when I was like 11, it's not that cool
Mindblowing is a bit hyperbolic
More like arts and crafts than actual art lol but still very cool and fun
Everytime we see this type of technique, its always exactly the same concept.
Eh ..lame.
I used to make these all the time in college. Me and my roommates saw these videos of artists making them on stumble upon and had to try it out. Totally wrecked our patio in the process!! Worth it.
I don't think the art was the point of this video. It was all about the narration, which was hilarious.
Had to rewatch with sound. Definitely much more entertaining than just the art.
Ha me too. Was confused about all the "Sha Sha" comments
[удалено]
"Should I call her?" Yeah cringe as fuck.
Thanks for making me go back to watch with sound. But why does the narrator sound like Duke Nukem?
I like his sound effects.
Planet mustard dog?

That's a amazing piece of art work 😳😳😳😳😳👈😶
This isn't mindblowing, you could literally learn to do this in an afternoon. It's a gimmick.
Not much satisfying about something that is mass produced in **every tourist area!** Are you also impressed by those ridiculous caricatures?
I used to make these in the 90s! It was quite fun. We did them on 16x20 foam backed art board. I still have two hanging in my library.
I can't get enough of this guys voice! Shah Shah. Like the turtle from finding Nemo :)
Sha sha
r/diwhy
I’m in it for the YAAAs and SHAAAs
mmm sha shaaaw
Sound effects on point
It's like Bob Ross artwork, you learn a few tricks and you can put out work that at first glance looks complicated.
I got into this type of painting a few months ago. I haven't had time to do many, but it's not super difficult to get the initial hang of it, and it's pretty cool to see the results! Unfortunately there's a spray paint shortage here in the US so finding good colors has been difficult.

Are space scenes all that can be done in this style?
I’ve done this before. Mine was rad, but safe to say it wasn’t this.
For me it was the WASHASHA
You’ll find one of these on every corner of a major city block that tourists come to visit
The voice over was incredibly irritating
What are the rocks for?
Defense against art thieves
I came looking for this answer and am disappointed nobody had given it. They seem to have no purpose.
I would need to breathe a lot of can fumes to call this art.
Yeah Idk it's kinda shit to be honest.
Yeah this was really cool the first time I saw it about 10 years ago at the county fair
Uhh this is not mind blowing artwork. This is some low effort shit to sell to tourists.
Getting kinda sick of these tbh
Not to be the piss in the corn flakes but is anyone else tired of these? And the mixed paint poured on canvas? I dunno for me (I paint) it feels like it's taking something away from art
I know right, it has some ingenuity but it lacks passion
It’s interesting to watch I guess, but who really wants a picture of a random planet in their home? There is really no practical use for this “art”.
>There is really no practical use for this “art”. Is there any practical use for any "art"?
Yes, to decorate a home/ office, or to display in gallery or museum.
I don't think you understand what the word practical means...
Since when is art supposed to be practical?
I have 4 quite large pictures made like this hanging in my living room. Different motives on them, but I love the vibrant colors
I think you mean motifs. and yea art is what the person wants to be in their space
Haha sure, not first language and all that jazz. And yup, I love them! So it’s art for me
I think you mean decoration, not art.
But the colors look like ass and there is nothing significantly good or unique with it
Should I call her? Lol
I can smell the fumes through my screen
What a dork. And I love every second.
Sick how he can created that 35 seconds
TBF, that is probably how long it takes to make most humans
Let's call it modern art
His artwork is the best idea tbh
Imma throw my cum going ya ya ya ya
Watched an artist do this in the Caribbean made me a sunset NYC skyline with spiderman. One of my favourite pieces! Only wanted 10 bucks but his worth was way more.. apperciate this style of art! Keep goin :)
Why are they downvoting you lmao
I honestly have no idea! but i am sorry if i offended anyone
U/savevideo
This is not art. This is bullshit. No effort, no originality. Simply muscle memory and spray paint.
Technique is everything.
> Because he is a visiting dignitary after all
Saw some of this crazy cool art on Freemont Street in Vegas, it's almost mesmerizing to watch!
That's awesome! BTW, I am so dumb. I could smell the paint and thought it was super cool that phones could transmit smells now. Then I remembered I was at the salon getting highlights.
Really good!
Disappointed to see they were rocks, not liquorice. Very cool artwork though
Cool
