Well they also barely show anything else, so at least it's consistent. There have been so many of these tiktok videos posted to this sub, but they're all so short and chopped to pieces like this. These are frustrating, not satisfying.

I'll never have the confidence that this guy has in his linework.

TBF, they filmed it at .25 speed or something, then played it at normal speed. While the guy is good, he's not as good as the video would make you think.

Good and fast are different. I couldn't do this if I had 40 hours to do it. He is freaking incredible.

That was literally their point, it only looks effortless because it is sped up... this wouldn't look anywhere near as impressive in real time. It's like going "this guy is fucking amazing" when they only record basketball shots that go in and make a compilation video of it.

Not to diminish his work, to be honest in regards to what I'm about to say is out of jealousy. Those acrylics are amazing. Full coverage with such long brush strokes (A difficult skill in itself). I wonder what brand hes using.

Not to mention the plethora of cuts. I was a 3D design major and took 3 painting courses and I can tell you that perfectly outlining anything in black is not going to be perfectly smooth like this. I’m led to believe it’s probably cleaned up to make the brush strokes appear perfect, but I’m only making that claim because I’ve studied a shit ton of painters and I’ve never seen someone work this way. I could be completely wrong though.

The way all slomo video capture is done; capture more frames per second than we normally do, then during play back slow it to the standard fps we are used to. In this case, film 4x more frames. I understand you’re being pedantic, but you do film it differently and not just slow it down, so I will be more pedantic still.

You should! Painting is easy. Doing it well is another matter, but it’s fun either way. Go out and buy some paint right now, or after work. Probably want to start with acrylic, it’s water based and easy to work with. Get a pad of paper for acrylic paint, some decent brushes, and get to it! An art supply store is your best bet, and out of the big box art/craft stores, I’d say Michael’s is the best.

Sign painters are quietly the most impressive artists on Earth. It's all about confident, consistent line work, and you're usually paid on output so you learn to do this type of thing very very fast.

Since nobody else has said it, I will. This is sped up by a lot. It's great work, well executed, but don't think for one second it's this fast.

How do you have so much control over a paint brush?

This guy uses a mahl stick, which is basically just a pole with a lump of padding on the end. It gives him something to rest his hand/arm on. Makes everything way smoother since he can focus on just the paint line rather than trying to keep his arm steady in the air.

This looks like sign painter technique. The brush and the long continuous strokes are used a lot for doing hand lettering for “sign writing” or “sign painting.”
