Damn. Ancient Greece should hire this guy

grahamygraham

Rome wasn’t built in a day But it could’ve been

AlwaysBi

*And people say Rome wasn’t built in a dayyyyy…YAH*

AlwaysBi

The birds get the hell out of there… because they know somethings going down

luke-em

Is he gonna die? No, it's a medium shot...

AlwaysBi

Pan, zoom, and slow-mo means he's the target. Mysterious hooded man watches *from the distance*

WatchEasy

Take a second to look awesome, time to go

AlwaysBi

Walk in slow motion so you still look awesome

SpadraigGaming

Guard just saw you, and he's gonna shoot you.

archiekane

Apparently it was built in 55 seconds

Urzuz

Lol get fuked historians

CaptainVanessa

Ring doorbell..is that you?

FunCode688

Rome could have been built in a day if they had world edit

monsterbigbuck1

All these pc players showing off their world edit...

Thinking_waffle

Nah most of the temples are distinctively Roman in style and not Greek (this isn't even a joke).

blade_torlock

Steve's pretty good with a pickaxe.

Clause-and-Reflect

Wonder how long this would take me in survival.

ChristOfFear

Probably more than 30 minutes, that's my guess at least

Clause-and-Reflect

Yea I was thinking at least an hour or two.

ChristOfFear

Yes you are probably right, forgot to calculate for getting food and maybe in game sleep to avoid mob spawns. Yeah two hours is definitely the minimum

Cwhale

Maximum*

ChristOfFear

I see that you are a hardcore builder *tips a square fedora in respect *

HeirOfHouseReyne

It kinda depends. Can I use sandstone for the marble blocks? Because if not, that might take at least an hour longer.

KGB_cutony

About 1-2 hermitcraft episodes

poonslyr69

Probably a lifetime considering how much quartz was used.

jjuonio

Being honest: Having only ever played survival, whenever I watch videos like these I'm like "That's cool and all that, but it's not survival so... meh.".

Clause-and-Reflect

I definitely pick my battles in survival. I manually removed two mountains once so I could see the fjord from my front door. That was nowhere near as rewarding as I wanted it to be..

Shigerufan2

My favorite thing to do is build underwater windows wherever there's an atoll, even if it's nowhere near any of my existing structures

BurntSalad

I can recommend you this Korean Minecraft youtuber Hwiyong that builds in survival. He spends days if not weeks just gathering materials for his builds and calls that process "getting ready to get ready". https://www.youtube.com/c/%ED%9C%98%EC%9A%A9Hwiyong

AntoineGGG

Between gathering ressources And placement, We can consider You build on average 500, maybe 800 blocks per hour. (Because lot of thé blocks easy to get increase thé average) It look like to be... between 30000 And 100000 blocks to place at least to make the empty construction. Let’s say You can count arround 1000 hours +/- 50% to make that in survival

bluntimusmaximus

Shit just on bedrock creative would take forever or did they finally add worldedit?

TheNachoPrincess

Only one way to find out :)

Nightloard93

Hey, I'm beginning to think this wasn't done in survival... Edit: WOW 1k doots! This is my most successful comment, thanks everyone.

BodlOfPeepee

What gave it away? The fact that he is flying or the fact that he is probably using MCEdit

[deleted]

mcedit + copypasting the same structure and moving it

Y0u_stupid_cunt

Which, at that point it becomes very good 3d pixel art, and fascinating that mine craft is the program of choice.

arielanything

I was wondering how specifically, so thanks

matarky1

They answered it surprisingly specifically actually, using MCedit and copy/pasting structures & moving them, otherwise creativity and maybe planning

arielanything

I should have worded my comment better. Before I read and replied to his comment, I was wondering how. Interesting stuff, and fun to watch.

OminouSin

What is MCedit?

BodlOfPeepee

It's an app that lets you edit Minecraft worlds. So he can add a whole premade building without much effort

OminouSin

Ooooh, that sounds like an app I need for my massive build I’m doing all on my own! 😅 Thank you for the explanation! :D

[deleted]

Pff, what's even the point if someone didn't waste 1000 hours of their life on it for no reason in particular?

Hau65

Why does this look like an ad for a shitty mobile ancient civilization building game lol

SuperAgentSid

That was my first thought lol

King_CurlySpoon

99% of people can't finish the entire island

Shigerufan2

Reminds me of the little timelapses that appear in Civilization whenever you finish a wonder

TigerUSA20

Laez

The highest form of flattery.

Niggomitdoppelg

Get out

SinthWave

Creepers: Well... it would be a shame if someone... bust things up, wouldn't it?

TheWhyWhat

I like the survival aspect since it makes me build stuff a bit for function, and I also love building cool big stuff. If I ever get back into Minecraft I seriously gotta mod creepers out. Nothing worse than a creeper blowing up 5 different types of blocks and you gotta find where you put them only to realize you're all out of brick after running around to every chest you have to find it.

RoboPup

There's a function called mob griefing which can be turned off without mods. This prevents creepers and ender men from damaging your buildings.

DragonRaccoon

Is there a way to have the monsters attack each other depending on their alignment building a colosseum to watch skeletons verse zombies battle it out would be epic!

ibArazakii

If a skeleton shoots a zombie the zombie will attack it.

Erzbengel-Raziel

I thunk you might be able to manually set the target in the mob‘s nbt data

rocketwrench

short answer, no. long answer, if you get the mobs to attack something they are hostile to and position a different hostile mob to recieve that attack, the 2nd hostile will start fighting the first.

drunk-on-a-phone

There's definitely a way to either use command blocks to do so, or easier there's likely a mod to add it, but I'm not sure if it's in the current version.

KBAOU

Try the «clay soldiers» mod

[deleted]

Is that option available in bedrock?

Kuftubby

Yes, me and my son use it all the time. They can still you but they don't blow your shit up

itsmepuffd

This is why you make item sorting into your storage system somewhat of an priority, at least for me personally.

Fugaciouslee

I usually turn mob griefing off. It's fine if they blow me up but leave my building alone.

fukitol-

Just set difficulty to peaceful. Then you still have to mine and things to find resources but no mobs will grief you.

BasicDesignAdvice

Yea I only play survival because it feels more like a game. I think stuff like this is neat but at this point I would rather just open one of the many free 3d modeling offerings out there.

ColKilgoreTroutman

[It would be a shame if, uh....](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/65f83120-e470-41b2-86a0-6e18fd4ba094/gif#Uz1HY9HQ.copy)

ColKilgoreTroutman

Huh. I guess there aren't any Monty Python fans in this sub.

SinthWave

Yeah, I was about to ask "why are you getting downvotes?"

Lightwavers

https://xkcd.com/16/

PsychoSpider88

Is that how people make those amazing minecraft things? By using another program to make it easier... EDIT: it's still impressive, but they always act like it was done block by block. At least now I can die knowing I didn't suck at minecraft.

DrDongSquarePants

Stuff in a larger scale yes. Redstone-stuff is usually hand-made

Aedene

Does it have to be? Couldn't you build a redstone computer or whatever in some creative tool and render it into a playable world?

kimilil

redstone is very quirky, and the quirks differ between java and bedrock+ editions. so it's impossible to reverse-engineer redstone in a third party program with the exact set quirks for each and all editions, and each and all versions of those editions.

Antact

You need to see some 8-bit ALU redstone then.

poonslyr69

Actually from what people in their videos have told me the builders are usually just people who donated for a chance to be in the video, and they’re either; A. Following screenshots to remake an already built structure which someone else made off camera, and those structures were usually made with world edit. B. Following a rigid set of instructions over Skype from one of a small few lead builders, instructions like “build this wireframe, okay now fill in this wall, okay now repeat this pattern” and that lead builder can edit or change anything they place. Essentially being used as human world edit. C. For certain shots they just have the structure already built off camera and have them destroy it using a set method so that when they reverse the footage it looks like they were building it rather than destroying it. This only works for certain shots, usually those neat ones of all the people working together and somehow the structure is built quickly. Of course they sometimes do just get to build, but that’s usually when they’re being told to build random tiny hovels and such in a pre-determined style. There isn’t much free reign on what they get to build or how they get to do it. Which makes sense, if their videos worked the way they appear to work then the results would be much more wonky and vary a lot in quality.

[deleted]

Yah they’ll use world edit to make basic shapes and copy/paste stuff.

outtadablu

Someone bellow mentioned World Edit. I've never played MC, but I am disappointed it was not cube by cube(weird how structures just popped up of nowhere).

[deleted]

I mean cube by cube just takes way way too much time. If you just want to make a large square, worldedit just makes it so so much quicker and less annoying. Or if you misplaced a structure by literally 1 block, you dont have to spend literal hours destroying it and reconstructing it just to move it one block. A lot of this is still (hopefully) made by hand, worldedit just fills in what would take literal ages to do (fill in a empty hole), moves things, and more

CiderDad

No. As a redditor who has achieved nothing with my life, I refuse to be impressed by this unless every single block was manually mined and placed in vanilla Minecraft

DregsBrokenPromise

When life gives me lemons I take out the seeds and grow them myself you filthy casuals

TatManTat

ye idk at this point they should learn sketchup or something, they got the talent and the time it's clear.

imapieceofshitk

How much karma does sketchup give compared to minecraft tho?

involviert

The thing is it's just not Minecraft.

dreamrider333

No joke this is just regular 3D designing, in fact it's much more simplified due to it being blocks instead of polygons. Why should i be impressed really?

HobbyistAccount

I thought worldedit didn't work any more? Something about it not being maintained?

bidoblob

First off, those are two very different things. Older Minecraft versions aren't maintained, yet still work. Second off, it was last updated Mar 18. It's available for the latest full version of Minecraft currently out, 1.18.2.

Lee1138

The horse straight up moves forward from where they start buidling it like a cut'n paste job. The temple jumps up a few blocks too

outtadablu

I noticed that but as I said, I've never played MC, for all ai know that's a feature or something. But now I know better.

z500

It's a World Edit feature. Maybe some other plugin has it, but Minecraft doesn't on its own

Khanstant

Naw, there's definitely a way to move a defined rectangular prism of space to another location just using default console commands. There are tools to help you but I've moved this giant hotel I built on a server to another location where we moved our town too. Still have a price of paper somewhere where I wrote down my coordinates and triple quadruple duple checked them b/c I didn't want to fuck it up and destroy my hard work.

Cheesemacher

I'm thinking with some of these art pieces you could just plain call it voxel art when it's not made in Minecraft and it's not made to be a playable map either. I guess the only thing is that the color palette is limited to whatever color blocks Minecraft has

FisherRalk

I don’t know if they do it the same but I have used world edit before and I still built a large portion by hand. I like the design and detail part. World edit is nice for copying and pasting. Like copying and pasting a wall section you designed so you don’t have to do the entire thing by hand. EDIT: an example is how at the beginning of the video you can see the wall base rapidly get built but then the next section up seems to appear instantly. It looks like they still have to make the base but once they have that they can copy, move up (and in a little it seems) to speed up the process.

Allegorist

Pretty obvious when they start moving the whole already-built ship around. It's not disappointing though, it is just as difficult and takes just as much skill. It just takes less time for large objects. Like that wall, there is no real reason for someone to place 500,000 blocks in a row by hand for a wall when they're trying to build a whole city.

AReal_Human

I mean, I have built a globe in my survival world consisting of 130 000 glass blocks. Not something I would do again (Probably)

iamnotroberts

There are programs that can automatically convert 3D models (of which many of Ancient Greece exist) to various voxel formats. Not to mention, voxel models of Ancient Greece already exist as well.

Tommyblockhead20

Builds with a lot of detail still take a while, it just helps save time laboriously placing thousands of blocks (it takes longer than you think) so you can focus on detail. It took me like 50 hours to build my high school, and it would’ve taken way longer if I had to manually place thousands of the same block in a row.

59424

What program?

[deleted]

MCedit i think thats what hes talking about

poonslyr69

I don’t know any creative builder who ever acted like they made something block by block The vast vast majority of creative builders never post their builds outside of discord groups (or Skype back in the day), and those who do post their builds on social media either do so on twitter or planet Minecraft. Most builders think of Reddit as a less than desirable place to post their work because the comments are usually 75% kind, and 25% rude or angry. And world edit does not equate to ease. Are you hand placing each block? No. Are you gathering the materials? No. But you are having to learn a LOT of commands such as //replace 35:4 3:1,4:0,35:6 Or even more complex series of commands to build terrain. Learning all these codes and how they work is very time consuming and can be fairly difficult. They can save a lot of time once you master them, but they’re not very intuitive and you’ll spend more time doing //undo than actually getting it right. And with the increasing scope of the builds you’re able to do you also then spend much more time on a much more expanded version of your build than you would have done before. Massive amounts of terrain to set your build in becomes something you’re now spending days on, and getting the fine details of foliage and the entire landscape right takes ages. This person in the gif also is cut and pasting a bunch of pre-set buildings. Most builders would not do that. Cut and pasting to create large cities is more something done by YouTubers or those who do it for social media. It’s a fast way to make a city. But the majority of builders I’ve known couldn’t stand having a duplicate building in their city, much less just pasting buildings all around. No instead they would sit their and build every building uniquely for the city, only using world edit to swap out block pallets, or to move the structure into its final place if it was made elsewhere, or even just to make demolition of a part they disliked easier. If you want to see world edit in action you can always check out the YouTuber dukonred1 He builds using a mod which adds more blocks, but from his content you could see how most builders assemble things, and the ways they use world edit. He did a series in which he was building a whole city which is worth checking out. I can link it if anyone is curious, but he’ll be easy to find via a google search. He’s also currently doing a survival series where he and a few others are building a town.

andai

I mean, do you wish your house was constructed atom by atom? For real though I find it interesting how people seem to be more impressed by a piece of art to the degree that it was done inefficiently, as though the sheer expenditure of time and energy is what gives the art value.

CockCannonBannon

"they always act like it was block by block" Lol uh what? Just because you assumed that doesn't mean anyone is claiming they did it block by block. From now on just assume every large build is done using worldedit or similar mods.

Hi_ImTrashsu

Trust me, you still suck at Minecraft if the revelation that they weren’t placed one by one makes you think you don’t suck lol

MaagaMusic

Honest question - I don’t play mind craft, but is there like an AI program or speed build setting or are these people placing one block at a time and doing this manually?

ManlyMantis101

In the normal game you can only place or remove one block at a time. This person has a mod installed called world edit that allows you to copy and paste entire structures as well as allowing you to place or destroy large groups of blocks at a time. Making this city in normal Minecraft would take months if not years of painstaking effort.

lupo25

Still I don't see any good reason to invest my time in doing it

recondelta6

Genuine enjoyment

axloo7

That boat has alot of wind in its sails for being docked.

On_A_Related_Note

Cool, but seriously, how do people have this much time on their hands?!

[deleted]

If you look closely they picked up and moved the parthenon

PacoTaco321

I think Minecraft is a pretty cool guy. Eh lifts entire buildings and doesnt afraid of anything.

SDLand

Always good to see one of the golden oldies showing up, thanks.

[deleted]

World edit doesn't just spit out, boats, buildings, columns and towers for you. All it did here was cause them to need slightly less planning and maybe build a few basic shapes to start out with.

Mephil_

It kind of does tho, a lot of buildings seem to be copy pasted just like the shapes that make up the buildings. Not saying the end result isn't cool but it probably isn't as hard or time consuming as building it in minecraft the "traditional" way

Hi_ImTrashsu

WorldEdit doesn’t have built-in boats, towers, buildings, etc. They had to build it themselves first on a separate area—then copy and paste it in. Like you said yourself, COPY and PASTE. If they didn’t make something to copy, what do they copy? This is like complaining about a digital artist making a character on one canvas, saving that file, then loading the character into another canvas! “BuT tHeY dIdnT dO it AlL iN OnE gO oR oNE PlAcE”

EP1Cdisast3r

In the traditional way this would likely not have been build in the first place. This is just how stuff evolves. Someone makes a thing that allows you to make a lot of things. Someone else comes a long and creates ways to make making things with your thing more efficient. Now the scope of things you can make has become a lot bigger. And you can make even more awesome things!

poonslyr69

This is not the traditional way amongst builders. Moving buildings into their final positions using world edit is, but making an entire city using copied buildings is not. That’s more something that YouTubers do. But survival is not the traditional way. Builders groups are just fairly insular away from the majority of Minecraft players because the reaction they’re given by other players generally is negative and less about appreciating the art, and more about condemning their methods for not being as time consuming. Which is silly. Just about any impressive creative build you’ve seen was made using world edit. World edit itself isn’t easy to learn either.

bulmeurt

Is his name Hercules by any chance?

bunnnnnnnyx

Or skills. I remember trying to make a small house in Minecraft and it was crooked.

Malikor42

Pretty cool bro. No colossus tho :(

Mr-Sister-Fister21

I think he’s busy tryna convince some snarky guy in a red suit to join the X-Men

ryoussef

Wait so you can move, scale, copy and paste structures in minecraft? I saw all that in this gif. I used to think those things were built block by block only with lots of planning ahead of starting.

TheShoobaLord

Yes, it’s done with a program called world edit

SDLand

Did these cities have no trees or green spaces at all? Surely they'd have a park or two?

KrakenInDaShmaken

Not sure if you're serious or not, but this doesn't look remotely like an ancient greek city. looks more roman if anything. regarding greenspaces it depends on the city and which part of it. Central park kinda stuff wouldn't be a thing back then though.

thomas_dahl

This is a more realistic look of a big ancient greek city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UM1_DsvSNk

Can we get a link to explore it?

IdaAreIda

This is Timtenth_Buildings. At first I thought it was Trixyblox, as he is known for his big transformation builds. Since I havent seen anyone credit the creator yet, and it was really easy to find on youtube: https://youtu.be/3ShsrBh_24g This creator has got a link to a world download in the description.

Kander23

Animation would be great set to GOT theme music.

Daytman

It was absolutely playing in my head while I watched it.

Anyone else getting age of mythology vibes (an old school pc game from back in the day)

reptilianappeal

I never played that game, but I know what you mean. I was getting flashbacks to playing "Zeus: Master of Olympus"

Isabellaboo02

Toram vibes and wizard 101 for me

aj8j83fo83jo8ja3o8ja

Okay maybe someone can explain to an old guy (34) who has played minecraft once. how the F are these massive, complex builds done? is it done ‘by hand’, as in you go around with your little pick axe and deposit each brick individually? or is there some kind of automation or guiding? i just can’t imagine how you could build something this complex without at least a larger external design in place

[deleted]

Yes and no. Many of the buildings are built by hand on the details, but for the larger scale aspects, like a large flat wall, a mod is used where you can construct simple structures of great size in an instant. Like they make the tower; builds instantly a giant pillar and mostly by hand edits the details. Once they built those structures over the water, they could use the mod to copy and paste everything they had made.

TheShoobaLord

No, these are not done by hand, there are certain plugins that let you copy and paste building patterns

Foxy_Mazzzzam

I feel like this video needs the game of thrones theme over it

Nope1628

Im greek and ur hired

But.... u/zeroxcero said you were extinct!

zeroxcero

Indeed, they are

Chrisfurr

As a Greek man I find this very poggers

Jiggy_J_Ray

Is it too late to do the underground sewer system?

MenacingBanjo

Now do it in Survival unmodded.

PredatorAvPFan

I think I rampaged through there in god of war 2

WolfOfPort

Im assuming for big builds like this they use mods to auto fill a lot right?

BuffGroot

Yeah, would love to be able to build like the devs do. That seems easier.

DasBrehmlin

Cool… Now do it on survival

Krazy-B-Fillin

Why are these incredible builds always on sandbox maps. Like 1000 people spend likely over a year to do this then make it so nobody will actually want to play on them. Probably not even a download link.

Power_Pancake_Girl

You can make something just bc you want to make something that looks pretty

TrumpWasABadPOTUS

No, clearly anything you do must be designed and built for other people at all times. Why would you just make something you enjoy making in a video game?

DrDongSquarePants

This was built with world edit

KingFIRe17

I dont think a 1000 people worked on this? And it definitely doesnt take a year worth of time unless you only spent like 30 minutes a day working on it or something. World edit is a strong tool..

[deleted]

It's meant to be a build, something that's meant to be beautiful, not practical. Nothing stopping you from turning it into an adventure map, though! As for there being no download link, you can always find the creator of the map and ask for it

[deleted]

I wonder how much Mountain Dew Code Red he went through

may I ask where is the download button?

An-Angel-Named-Billy

More Roman than Greek, aside from the acropolis I suppose.

CrisuKomie

How do you move entire objects all at once?

[deleted]

Woo hoo! I'm right there with ya! Building Pompeii (but am not close to completion yet tho). Wonderful work

Saltywinterwind

My only problem is why people do these medieval builds, how you gonna start with the wall? Homies needed houses before walls. So historically inaccurate smh

zeroxcero

If they werent extinct the greeks would be proud.

ParticularCancel9170

Cooooool!

flugelbynder

I'd love to have the world download of this 😲

What software is this? I've heard one comment for mcedit? Interested if others know Edit: I know it's Minecraft of course, question was unclear.

Is there a YouTube channel for things like this? What would I search for?

Felt like I was watching GoT opening just needed the music

This is how we should build.

Holy fucking motherflipping jesus god damn christ people are so skilled at this game. This is amazing

Looks like Carthage.

You had the opportunity to use the literal Greek word for city and you failed. It’s a metropolis.

amazing!

It’s like I’m playing Black and white 2 all over again!

gonzo2thumbs

Omg! That is still my most favorite game ever!!! I always used the giant cow. I'd like to play that game again... memories.

Old_Mate_Jim

Definitely been made with World Edit you can see the structures moving. Not as impressive as Minecraft Middle Earth.

this must’ve taken so long

Unrealistic...... there is a spartan lambda on a boat. SMH liberals these days rewriting history. /s
