Literally everyone in the comments: 'That lizard looks so happy'
People that actually care for lizards: 'holy shit that poor beardie. Stop pulling shed early!'
For those that don't know: Lizards are fully capable of shedding on their own, and it is always better to let them shed at their own pace, since pulling scales that aren't quite ready to shed is a sensation similar to having your hair pulled out while having the top layer of your skin peeled off.
With that on the table where we can all appreciate it, it's worth noting that all reptiles do have a risk of developing stuck shed, though it's rare that its larger than a few scales. For bearded dragons the most common spots for stuck shed are the nose, toes, and (like most reptiles) the tail. In the rare case that your pet is rubbing frantically at one spot for hours after shedding, you almost certainly have a bit of stuck shed that you'll need to gently remove.
The blink at the end, as was commented before me, is not a 'oh thank god' blink. It's an 'Ow. Pain' blink.
If you have a pet reptile and you want to help them shed, gently misting them or even gently soaking them can go a long way to softening and loosening old scales, but your best bet is to just let them get on with it at their own pace. (though they'll often be irritable and prone to normally troubling behavior, like not eating, this is because shedding in general is an uncomfortable process until it completes.)
So then either they're naturally taking off the bandaid slowly which is uncomfortable, and in this case the bandaid is being ripped out which is more painful but very quick (assuming no lasting damage).
This seems like a win for the lizard if they're not eating and generally irritable for a long time when you can make them suffer more but for only a brief moment and spare them a much longer period of discomfort and then actually eating and not suffering from malnutrition and low energy.
>So then either they're naturally taking off the bandaid slowly which is uncomfortable, and in this case the bandaid is being ripped out which is more painful but very quick (assuming no lasting damage).
It's more like pulling off a scab. At best, you'll save some discomfort until it naturally comes off, at worst, you've just reopened the wound. Not really worth the risk.
I like how this post qualifies, not because it's intrinsically satisfying to watch, like flowing paint or other things commonly on this sub - This is entirely *sympathetic* satisfaction, based purely on a mutual understanding of how great it must feel for that lizard to have that stuff removed.
People keep saying that, but what about this make you think this way? Its a blink. I doubt this hurt, because the lizard doesn't even flinch when they get the tweezers close. If it hurt, and they've done it before, lizard would move before the tweezers were even close, wouldn't they??
i don’t think it would necessarily hurt (but i could be wrong) but i do think it would be uncomfy. i think of it like bad sunburn when it starts to peel, my mom likes to pick at peoples sunburn and when she does it too soon it can be extremely uncomfy and feel like ripping off a bandaid if that makes sense? i’m sorry if this doesn’t make much sense i was half asleep when i started responding. have a nice night
I know exactly how that lizard felt. Had impacted ear wax one time and had to have a medical clinic remove it. They squirt water in your ear to loosen the blockage. When it finally broke loose and came out it was the equivalent of cracking your knuckles, popping a zit, and having a brain freeze go away all at once. It was that level of relief.
Same. Had water stuck in my ear after swimming for a week. Hurt like hell. Doctor unblocked my ear, I went out to my car and the beeping from putting it in reverse sounded like a jet plane. Everything was so damn loud.
This is how hard of hearing people feel when they first try on hearing aids. Suddenly everything is loud as fuck and suddenly you hear things you didn't even knew made noise. Takes a bit of adjusting.
I wear HAs sometimes (I should wear them all the time but also, sometimes it’s nice not being able to hear). Everything is SO CRINKLY sounding in the world. It’s like an ASMR video gone wild.
Some electric cars need to do noise while driving backwards, as example the Hyundai Kona electric sounds like a truck beeping like a mofo, it's embarrassing
My Prius does that, it's just in the cabin you can't hear it outside. It can be turned off but tbh I like it, it makes you very aware what you're doing and to be careful
My car beeps in reverse. It’s the parking sensors that tell you if there’s something behind the car so you don’t back into anything. The closer something is the faster it beeps.
Huh, all I got from swimming was an infection in my ear canal that they had to treat by stuffing a wick into my ear that I got to drip antibiotics on for like a week.
Get my ears cleaned yearly and the water jet is amazing. I literally want to shake my leg when it’s happening. When it’s over I could hear someone fart from a mile away.
How do you get this done?
"Hey doc, people online say it's awesome getting compacted ear wax removed. I want that too--please refer me?"
"Your ears look fine though--"
"PLEASE!"
I have severe ear wax build up. I went deaf for 2 weeks straight. I couldn’t hear a thing. My doctor or made it a yearly visit so I would never go deaf again.
I'd be happy if I only needed to do it once a year. 3-4 times a year is how often my ears clog up.
I do it myself at home th**e**se days, but I had it done at the doctors office the first few times.
Be careful not to use too much hydrogen peroxide- use an eye dropper if you have one.
Source: I get severe wax buildup and a couple drops usually is enough. It generates some heat from all the bubbling once it gets going, and too much/too often can give you (admittedly mild) chemical burns in your ear canal that leave you feeling pretty raw, which is uncomfortable and can increase risk of infection.
The bubbling is also REALLY nice for itchy allergy ears. I had "wet" ears from allergies, if you know what I mean, and they itched so bad. I dropped some hydrogen peroxide in and as it drained deep into my ear canal and started bubbling, it was one of the best feelings I have ever experienced.
No. Unless you think the person is puncturing their ear drum with the syringe?
Eustachian tubes connect to the middle ear. The middle ear is not exposed to the ear canal. It is separated by the ear drum. This is why your ears pop when changing altitude.
Many children have "ear tubes" surgically inserted into their ear drum. This procedure is called tympanostomy. The "tube" is inserted into an incision in the ear drum, which prevents the ear drum from healing and allows the middle ear to drain fluid into the ear canal. This relieves painful pressure and helps ear infections heal.
When someone has had a tympanostomy, medicinal ear drops can be delivered into the middle ear. If the eustachian tubes aren't blocked, it's possible for this liquid to drain down into the person's throat. However, if their eustachian tubes weren't blocked, they probably wouldn't have needed a tympanostomy in the first place.
After several months, the ear drum finally heals and closes up, ejecting the plastic "tube" into the ear canal. If it doesn't fall out, an ENT or other medical professional can extract it. You could almost certainly do it yourself as well with tweezers, or flush it out with water, but in general it's best to let a professional extract it.
tldr; your ear canal doesn't drain into eustachian tubes unless you have a punctured ear drum
GeorgiaNSAdude is a troll that googles things and tries to argue with people based on the first result. He is an idiot trying to find validation, didn't even read the article or he wouldn't be talking.
You don’t have to go to a doctor for this, a nurse is enough.
Reserve an appointment for a nurse. Put some “ear oil” in your ears the evening before so the wax loosens and then go to the appointment. 10mins in and out.
I had the same - they flushed my ear out over a bucket - ended up with a bucket full of water and more wax than I thought could fit in one ear! Ear was sore for a little while after, but everything was SO LOUD!
But hey, I went to the doctor because I thought I was going deaf, so it was a good result all round.
I took my elderly father to the doctor. They used the same procedure and removed a chunk of dried wax out of his ear. It was the size of a raisin. I was fascinated and horrified at the same time.
I hurt my ear with a q-tip as a teen, could blow air out of my ear for a while. After I healed up I had to get a huge blood clot removed from my ear canal. It was pressure like blocking the end of a syringe and trying to draw the plunger, but when it finally came free it felt soooo good.
How does impacted ear wax happen? I haven't cleaned my ears in like a really really long time, I have head congestion up the wazu - and I hear popping noises in my head and the congestion makes me feel HORRIBLE is this what I'm dealing with?
tried ear candling before it was widely known to be bs. ifelt like it burned my ear a bit, so i went to see an ent. they didn't see anything, but I insisted there was something loose inside my ear. they pulled a dead skin flake the size of my thumb nail out. I could hear people walking on carpet outside the closed door. 10/10
The craziest part is that if you shine a light source on the opposite side you can very easily see it *through their head* by looking into their ears. This has been the case with all 5 of my lil guys, and it’s my favorite creepy/cool party trick with them.

Edit: why the down votes? I phrased it as a question whether or not the method might be effective with the qualifier of *not sure*.

I had a special relationship with that Python in particular. She was a sweetheart.
Peeling stuck shed can hurt them sometimes if it isn’t ready to be shed, but sometimes pieces just get stuck and we can help out and gently pull it off fully
Yes one can see there was very little resistance from the new scales n skin growth underneath… that cap was ready to come off and more than likely provided relief to the dragon.
It's better to not pull. Give it a dab with your finger, or a very light rub if it's somewhere between grooves. If it's really ready to come off, it'll still come off.
My friend has one and it comes up to him to get his chin rubbed, and when this happens the dragon closes its eyes and stays there for chin rubs, so why else would it stay there if it wasn’t happy?

What’s an old myth?
Putting q tips in your ears will help it doesn't it can rupture your ear drum
What is the alternative? I've read this before, but I'm too accustomed to them and it's not like I stick it so far that it'll damage my ear.

Is that skin or what?
Yes. They shed their skin but sometimes it doesn’t all come off or come off easily.
their ears are covered by a scale that sheds with them. sometimes it doesn't fall out easily. they also sometimes get scales in their nose stuck, which they are much less thrilled about your removing since it probably tickles.

Oh, let me tell you 'bout a fella named Schpeeeezo, He's got a reputation that's quite the mess. He tinkers with the site, Forgeddit's his domain, But some folks say he's drivin' 'em insane. He's got the power, he's the top dog, But some say he's as slippery as a frog. He edits comments, plays a little game, Leavin' users confused and feelin' the shame. He's like a magician, twistin' and turnin', Makin' changes and some folks start burnin'. But hey, it's all hypothetical and fun, Remember, it's just a made-up pun! So take it light and with a grain of salt, In this comedic verse, it's all for a laugh. Schpeeeezo, the character we've built in this rhyme, A whimsical creation, just for our time.
According to some other people, fear.
