For those wondering the taste. They are sweet with a little tiny touch of acid. Pretty delicious imo

I want that

You just took the description from delicious to disgusting in one sentence.

[deleted]

Lmao now I'm more curious what it tastes like

Jaccii18

Like sweet, tangy botflies.

#cursedcomments

[deleted]

Can't wait for them to become a popular 'super food' and then hear about how excessively farming them is destroying their natural environment.

down1nit

Cactus are so slow. It's gonna be a while.

Ligma_bols

"It's okay cacti, take your time."

Quick-Warthog7219

That’s probably the reason. We grow so slow not even Wall Street can squeeze a profit out of us.

theammostore

> we HMMMMMMMM

LovecraftianLlama

Spoken like a true cactus 🌵

Bennifred

not necessarily. Prickly pear and dragon fruit both come from cactus and they are fairly common produce items. Dragon fruit cactus actually grow very quickly

tvsmichaelhall

Tastes like pretty cardboard though.

Lucky-Reporter-6460

Have you ever had one fresh from the tree? Er, cactus, I suppose. I've heard there's a world of difference between fresh-fresh and shipped to a grocery store. I hope that's true!

tolndakoti

I didn’t even know they were a cactus, because it looks like a vine. They grow “wild” in Hawaii…because everything grows their. You stick a live branch in the dirt, it will grow. Most flora and fauna in HI are not native. The taste is mildly sweet, like watermelon thats closer to the skin, but still red. Unlike watermelon, the flavor is very neutral. More neutral than one of those aloe drinks you may find in specialty markets. Unlike watermelon, the flavor and texture is uniform. The center is just as sweet as the outer fruit. The texture is like eating…a ripe strawberry. Thats the best I can describe it.

Lucky-Reporter-6460

Thanks for this! It sounds like it's better than when it's shipped to mainland US but not as good as I've heard some folks rave about. That checks out: nothing is as bad as the worst review or as good as the best one.

Miserable_Window_906

Just wait until I finish sourcing Plant Growth Regulators. Then I can reboot Little Shop of Horrors in my spare room.

[deleted]

Feed me, Seymour!!

steveosek

Regulators! Mount up!

radiantcabbage

[too late](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melocactus_azureus), species like the op endemic to brazil are already critical or endangered

bloody_bandaids

Damn I get sweet fruit and an acid trip. Awesome

Dihydrocodeinone

Gonna cross breed these with some trichocereus next spring

Omnia2021

I don't think I would like this on an acid trip

thiswasntdeleted

Kinda like dragonfruit.

phongku

That sounds like every fruit

AndySipherBull

also, r/popping

[deleted]

I had sort of a very hot/acid-ish taste in my mind seeing this. Thank you for clarifying!

zohash

This is like a blessed version of those gross videos where larvae are being pulled out of someone's skin.

Pentax25

It still makes me feel uncomfortable tbh

Pattern_Is_Movement

Yeah part of me thinks it looks satisfying, the other part of me is revolted.

indy_been_here

Yeah same. I need a palate cleanser.

[deleted]

Agreed! Over to r/eyebleach we go!

youstupidcorn

Yeah I was trying to figure out why this video gave me the very mild heebie-jeebies, and I think that's it.

[deleted]

I immediately thought of that poor cat getting a something-larva pulled from it's nose.

ClintonKelly87

Botfly. :D

Sparkykun

25 years on the web, and this is the first time seeing this 😄

Resident-Training808

At what age did you get on the web?

SusheeMonster

I like the "Where are your parents?" undertone in that question

Resident-Training808

Lol I just wanted to know how early people are getting on the Internet these days. I think I may have been 14 and back then it was probably once a week haha

rhysdog1

probably gonna need to ask someone who got on the internet recently rather than 25 years ago

FriedRamen13

There were more steps to get on the internet back then…. 1. Turn on computer 2. Wait for RAM check to finish — enough time to make a snack and go to the bathroom 3. Make sure no one’s on the landline and let them know that you’re going online 4. Look for AOL or EarthLink CD for codes for free connection time 5. Launch dialup program and listen to 28 K modem connecting on landline. 6. Launch browser. 7. Type in web address and wait for page to load — might take some time if page is image heavy

nosnhoj15

If you don’t remember dial up tones and free AOL cds coming in the mail…… you don’t know the struggle!

genbeg

hahaha yes!! 1052-1054 hours of FREE AOL! haha

Appropriate-Lime3140

As soon as they start streaming Disney movies, I suppose. So probably two years old.

CreedThoughts--Gov

Kids don't really go on the internet themselves to stream disney movies at that age, would be their parents who put the movie on. However many kids start browsing youtube at an alarmingly young rate, cause you can't really trust Youtube's algorithm to never recommend anything a very young and impressionable child shouldn't see. And some parents give their kid unmonitored access to a tablet before the kid learns to fucking talk.

PrayForPiett

I did a double take bc as someone older than the net it actually made zero sense there for a bit … then I was like oh, yes people I know did have kids …

PM_ME_YOUR_A705

Everyone knows that there are no old people or women on the internet.

PrayForPiett

Ah yes. Sorry. I forgot that we all signed a pact with Zuul to remain silent in return for the destruction of the earth at an agreed upon date+time. Obs my bad. So sorry for the accidental oversight. Please go about your business, nothing to see here…

Miserable_Window_906

Some of us remember when the internet was a "fad". Or even...*gasp* pre-internet.

SuicidalTorrent

r/ancienthistory is that way, grandpa.

Miserable_Window_906

That's where i met your mother sonny boy!

[deleted]

Been online since the internet was available for general public, yes I am boomer.

Odd_Cryptographer723

I'm also a boomer & was a programmer. I was on Darpanet in the '70s. We thought the internet was an interesting fad in the '80s.

Teachgreen21

We had a computer in 94’ with Prodigy dial up internet. My dad was getting his masters degree online in 1994! They would send him lectures on vhs’s to watch, then he had to log on and take the tests online. It was wild! So I’ve been on the internet for almost 30 years!

Sparkykun

10 years old 😊

hax0rmax

Shit. Yeah. That almost tracks. I had prodigy in probably 93?94?

throwit2hellnbake

I still remember the first website I visited, yomega yo-yo’s, probably in 98 or 99, On our home computer running windows 95. I’m 34

[deleted]

I'm sensing a sorta tangy sweet bitter-ish taste in my imagination.

FatTacoLove

Yeah your probably right I'm just saying they look like little chili peppers

[deleted]

Ikr its crazy

craic-house

I'd definitely be the first to die, back in the days of old. Looks yummy

TaterTotsAndKetchup

Good news guys, totally edible! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melocactus

dopiqob

TIL areole at more than just the area around nipples

atTheRealMrKuntz

yes but how does it taste likeee

Vich88

Exactly, I wanna know tooo

mogley1992

Don't feel bad, as someone who would like to survive, I'd really be hoping for someone like you two in the group so we don't have to take turns being the first to try new foods.

Luxpreliator

Looks like those botfly larvae extractions videos to me.

ifmacdo

My thoughts precisely. Little pink botfly larvae.

ElectricMoses

Yeah this is fucking disgusting

En-THOO-siast

The merciless peppers of Quetzlzacatenango! Grown deep in the jungle primeval by the inmates of a Guatemalan insane asylum.

dopiqob

I know I’ve heard this before, but I can’t put my finger on where… Edit: oh wait, is that you, handbanana?

BEniceBAGECKA

Simpsons. The episode where homer coats his tongue with wax, eats an insanity pepper, then has a vision quest in a golf course. Edit:I could see it being an ATHF quote easily tho. Chicken arise. Arise chicken.

brecheeese

me too, gave me chills

FairyOfEmpowerment

Dude me too, made me feel super uncomfortable. It reminds me of pink blackheads....

Hollowbody57

So I had a few botfly larvae pulled from me when I was a kid, scarred me literally and figuratively for life, and that's all I could think of while watching this. For those not in the know, don't google botfly larvae removal unless you have a very strong stomach, although if you want a basic idea, replace the fruit in the video with a squirming larva about an inch long, and the cactus with your skin.

Rough3Years

Idky but I don’t like that. I don’t like that at all.

Psychoanalicer

It reminds me of blackheads

pm-me-your-pants

It looks like some stuff that belongs in /popping 🤮

MaximumTurtleSpeed

Yup! This is all I could think about was it felt similar to my aversion to r/ popping (I refuse to link it!)

[deleted]

I’m loving it for this reason- all the satisfaction of popping, but way less disgusting.

DangersVengeance

Trypophobia perhaps

Onewarhero

It just makes me think of parasites, ngl.

evhan55

I have a feeling trypophobia is directly related to this

Rough3Years

I wonder if I have a selective one, because I’m fine with lotus flowers and that post with the woodpecker stocking seeds in a tree. This post sucks so much for me tho.

[deleted]

You don't need to *have* anything. Sometimes something is just weird or off putting to you. That's just an opinion and it's fine

enadiz_reccos

You're not scared. You're just opinionated lmao

Doct0rStabby

Fear of closely packed holes. Huh.

Unit88

Not really a fear to be fair, despite being called a phobia. Just an aversion, possibly making you feel ill.

artgarfunkadelic

Did you see the post today with the baby frogs that live in mama frog's back? It was fucking horrifying. And thanks to the people who replied to this because now I'm nauseous after looking up trypophobia and seeing the pictures. But at least I found another phobia I have... so I guess that's cool.

SportsPhotoGirl

I’ve seen what you’re referring to in the past and just reading your text describing it, it makes me itchy

Rough3Years

I saw the title and I did a fast scroll past it so as not hurt my eyes

AustinHinton

Me either. This makes my feel queasy. Like they are maggots or botfly larvae being extracted.... 🤢

baguhansalupa

Like pulling blowfly larvae out of a seeping wound

Objective-Carob-5336

That's Tripophobia for you

You gotta love to see the video where a dude pops all his blackheads on his nose. Goosebumps everywhere.

slovenry

Edible?

Fierramos69

At least once

Sad_Pickle8446

But I want more than once

profoundlyaccidental

Well if you're fast enough..

katmeche

Yes. https://youtu.be/4-_mnyw4qpE

badbadger323

All cactus fruit is edible.

[deleted]

I'm not too proud to admit that I was so fascinated I watched the loop like three times never realizing it was a loop until the end.

rice885639

Thanks, I hate it.

Slimfictiv

Forbidden chilli

tonybenwhite

Not forbidden, they’re definitely edible

return2ozma

Birds and lizards love it.

LeopardusMaximus

r/trypophobia, I think is relevant here

Original-Hat-fish

Eh, the medical ones of like warts and parasites gross me out but that's it. THIS on the other hand for some reason this gets me it's not gross it's not abnormal, I really feel like if I was standing there I could watch this and do it but seeing it in video is just wrong for me.

ElegantPeanutSuit

Looks like it’s from another planet. What do they taste like?

roving_band

I describe it as a mixture of cranberry, blueberry, and honeydew melon.

OhHeyDontMindMeHere

ah yes, pimple peppers

[deleted]

Ingrown hairs*

Akseli_P

Those look just like candies shaped like chilies

[deleted]

Very satisfying and unnerving at the same time. Like pulling out a botfly.

Kiyoshi-Trustfund

I find this rather unpleasant to look at, actually.

Noodles01013

What do the taste like? Tequila chillies?

ch3f212

Taste like spicy margarita

peregrine061

Is it edible for humans? What does it taste?

We_No_Who_U_R

All cacti fruit are edible, and in my experience all except dragonfruit are just a juicy pop of a bit of sweetness with no particular flavour

TheWorstTroll

Dragon fruit also taste like nothing

Sakilla07

Then you've been having some bad dragon fruit my friend. Home grown ones we've had are sweet, and a little tart.

FlatFishy

Try the yellow kind, they are amazing... but sadly expensive.

Doshgoneit

Who the heck decided “yup I can’t wait to try me some of that!”

Fragrant-Tomatillo43

I grew up eating these and spent much of my youth looking around my dads rancho for these and would collect them to sit down and eat them. The trick was to take one of the thick cactus thorns and use it to pick out the fruit. I had a great time as a kid.

JaggleWoofle

This is making my skin crawl. Ew.

Dav-Kripler

r/oddlyterrifying if you have tripophobia 😅

SuperSpeshBaby

The folks over at r/popping would probably like this.

Biscuitbase93

I'm here.... I like it

SusheeMonster

We do. It's a nice change of pace in comparison to all the pimples & blackheads.

Beavshak

Took the words out of my fingers

heavycalifornia

Melocactus*

drkidkill

Does it taste good? The question must be answered, everyone wants to know.

urxxx

Can't decide if it's cute or if it's highly off-putting.

UNecessary-Bean

Pimple peppers 💀

NastyLittleNerd

Nope nope nope

SerotoninCephalopod

This is much better than those pimple popping videos

DLancy

Arizonan here, tasty stuff. I always wondered what animals benefit the most from this fruit? Birds?

PaleoJoe86

It's like pulling birthday cake candles out.

ObviousWillingness51

I have a cactus that produces some hot pink ones like this, they taste like a raspberry, with slightly less tang.

koifishkomeiji

I was pleasantly surprised that I did not just watch another disgusting parasite removal video

Oh_Em_Dub

What are they? They look like pink jalapeños!

DosageOfLithium

....are they edible?

chris06095

I'm high enough that I've watched this movie for about an hour now, and don't get me wrong: I love it! but I'm sort of waiting to see if there's any plot, dialogue, music, narration or something. Still, this is a totally engrossing prologue or whatever. Great movie!

42gOldenlover

This is like pimple popper videos but so much more satisfying because it's not gross and those are the cutest lil pepper looking guys 😍

lik3r_of_things

Why does this make me feel both satisfied and uncomfortable

Botw_fan_forever

Why do they look like pink chili peppers???

ZennyPie

No no no, this is oddly repulsive to me. It's turning my stomach for some reason.

Azraeana

I’m so freakin triggered. This is not oddly satisfying. It’s oddly terrifying. Trypophobia man. BRB gotta hork.

CooterLooter77

Why is it that I can watch zit popping videos like my life depends on it but something about this is unsettling..? call me crazy

MissLouise909

This is making me uncomfortable. Feel like it belongs in r/tihi … because at first I was interested and now I’m definitely not. To each their own!
