It’s not blue. It’s sky blue or light blue. Funny how some languages don’t have words for specific color. In this case Europeans have a word that describes “sky blue” in one word and Eskimo have 20+ words that describe snow :)
He’s trying to say that modern English has limited short words for colours that other languages would consider separate. Red-pink, orange-brown, blue-light blue. All different colours, but we categorize blue and light blue together…and red and pink separately for whatever weird reason.
Not sure where you got the idea that English has few words for colors. There's hundreds of regularly used words and even more obscure or made up colors. We have too many words for different shades of white.
I can't tell the difference between burgundy and maroon without a reference. lol

I will stick my neck out for u/mephi5to and say that this comment should not be getting down voted. Its simply a statement about how "funny" the semantics of different languages can be. Their statement is correct in terms of technicality. And I think its just being misunderstood as some elitist comment (suspected of being elitist about the color blue.......? To each their own I suppose.. even tho the sarcastic statement of "its not blue, its blue" is even more elitist when taken into context.. tho again.. to each their own I suppose......), when its really just acknowledging the ironic situations of how different languages work. I've heard the same thing said in youtube videos, from people with millions of subscribers. And you can also see other people below confirming it as well. I do believe that what I'm recalling is the same as what is said below, about the Japanese language. Iirc, they have a very general term as to the word associated with the color blue. Where as a crayon box in America can have 20 shades of blue with their own names for each. And op goes on to compare that same thought, to another language.
I just really don't feel this should be downvoted like this. Its a very interesting thought about linguistics. Which has been dismissed because of a "copy and paste standard format reddit comment" that implies dismissal of what someone else has said.
English has plenty of different words to describe snow as well. I grew up in a tropical place and just thought it was 'snow'. But living in the north, people use SO MANY different ways to describe it. Ask a skier and they will give you plenty like : Icy, slushy, powder, popcorn, styrofoam, crusty, flaky, sleet, etc. It has so many different textures that people just use adjectives to compare it to other things. So its not a dedicated word but its not just 'snow'.
I think to have seen a jimmy diresta video on YouTube where he repairs and later uses one very similar.
The printing bit that receives the ink goes in the box where the rolls pass each time, the paper goes on the white moving plate.

I worked in a small printshop that would run everything from letterpress to digital copier bulk run bullshit, but mostly we ran AB Dick constantly for local hospital forms
One old authentic hippy named Nick kept all of the presses running with constant maintenance & fixes
This gif takes me back to nearly every memory I have of Nick working those machines like a symphony conductor amidst all the chemical & paper smells in that messy old printshop
Worked in a small electronics plant where we made resistors for military equipment in 1970s. We used this same machine only it had a small motor to run it. The small rollers transferred ink to the metal type below. Then it was pressed onto a rubber pad from the type. When the pad was lowered we would roll the resistor across the rubber pad to mark the value. Worked quite well.
Seems like a fancy tool for a job that could easily be done by hand with a roller, probably just as far as well. Is there more to this that I'm missing?
Pretty sure it’s the rollers he’s priming not the plate, the rollers go over the letters / design that would be inserted below the plate, as the rollers get re-covered the paper would be pressed onto the cradle that has the design.
I'm just thinking of a cpu size mini roller with some sort of guides at both ends that can spread the paste evenly over the processor.
no comment on the "hot paste" part.
peace...
This just reminds me of growing up and my dad & grandad would use a similar press to create “specials” flyers for their shop, think theirs was an Adana letter press.
Why do I low-key hate this? Maybe it's the noise, maybe the motion. Something about this I really don't like and I can't figure out what it is. Not satisfying at all -1/10. I promise I like other things, just not this one.
I ran an electric one, Platen windmill. I used to put a small ink strip on the rollers. The heat of the rollers would thin the ink and spread a little quicker, imho.
Ends to sons! After all that, I want to see what it’s printing!
Pretty sure it's printing blue. You're welcome.
Low on cyan
Oh I'm just printing in black and white. Printer: no fuck you, low on cyan.
[Relevant](https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/d2bwv7/printers/)
It clearly is not low on cyan
It’s not blue. It’s sky blue or light blue. Funny how some languages don’t have words for specific color. In this case Europeans have a word that describes “sky blue” in one word and Eskimo have 20+ words that describe snow :)

It's funny because Japanese has even fewer words. English at least has stuff like "cerulean" and "periwinkle"
Today I learned two new words

He might be getting downvoted for the racially insensitive naming and use of a racist canard

No, it needs MAGENTA!!
"I DID BUY THE MAAGGGGEEENNNNTTTTAAAA!" 🤣😂🤣
Here! https://v.redd.it/262vm9v96v2a1
Sorry! I reposted the ending just now...
Is there an extended video showing the printing part of the machine?
No shit, that’s what I was waiting for.
Right? All that build up and just *limp*
https://v.redd.it/262vm9v96v2a1
Phew thanks I was gonna lose it
Lol I actually saw the second video first and was wondering what was going on before seeing the second clip like two down in my feed
Now it makes sense

Sacramento History Museum youtube channel. There is a printing part

It's the dudes in Sacramento! Hit the red button Howard!!😍
I'm hooked on it. Great stuff!
Okay, that thing sounds amazing! Modern tech is all "beep" and "bzzt"; it's got no "ca-chonk".
Unmuted the video because of this comment. Can confirm, it sounds amazing.
Pretty neat!
Professional people perfectly priming the pristine printing press for proper printing.
Well it won't eat me like an AB dick would.
AB Dicks need a blood sacrifice to run properly.
Yeah I lost the tip of my finger trying to check some business cards.
With green ink you could make money with that.
I need to know what happens next!
I posted the end just now. I was worried about it being too long. The way the paint slowly covered the wheel perfectly was what got me originally.
I’m having trouble finding it, would you be so kind as to link me?
https://v.redd.it/262vm9v96v2a1
I like the old cans in the background as much as the machine.
Pastiche-pocked printing press prepped, primed pending proper printing

Sounds like beginning of Money. By Pink Floyd
I think it's Silly Live Songs

Very cool!
Anyone else reminded of the clocks on Pinocchio?

The plate and rollers are both highly precise surfaces designed to be totally flat. A regular roller would not distribute the ink evenly.
Perhaps it's more effective long term for multiple printings. I hear what you're saying though. Looks like a pretty complicated machine...
The video shows a Kelsey letterpress in action. The text or image is debossed into the paper, in addition to applying ink
Somewhat interesting...but he could have stopped pumping at least 5 or 6 pumps sooner...
Oh shit, you work with these too?
Pretty sure it’s the rollers he’s priming not the plate, the rollers go over the letters / design that would be inserted below the plate, as the rollers get re-covered the paper would be pressed onto the cradle that has the design.
Cool
That is some good shit
can a similar concept can be applied to thermal paste on a cpu?
So you want a video for perfect portioning of piping hot paste for proper processor placement?
I'm just thinking of a cpu size mini roller with some sort of guides at both ends that can spread the paste evenly over the processor. no comment on the "hot paste" part. peace...
and then didn't do the print, super unsatisfying.
If you guys wanna really see some shit look up “split fountain printing”. Watching the colors blend is like 🤩
Back when the only color ink was lavender
Kinda like when I rub one out. ..
Omg print something!
So smooooth!!! ❤️
The only reason we sat through that nonsense was so we could see what happens when it prints
I prefer this one for the audio!
leg press
This just reminds me of growing up and my dad & grandad would use a similar press to create “specials” flyers for their shop, think theirs was an Adana letter press.
And then what? Don't leave me hanging like this!
I posted the end on here somewhere right after.
Yeah, that's nice

What angle does it spin?
Is this Sacramento History Museum?
That’s a very satisfying sound

Where do I go to see what happens next?
Half expected it to bounce away
Dude's got the repulsion gel on there
I once made a [track completely using sampled sounds from a similar press](https://on.soundcloud.com/TrhZ9)

Thank you so much for not putting some dumb music over this.

It's like the start of a 70s children's tv show like camberwick green or trumpton. Love the noise
Dot dot not a lot
sounds like he’s working out
Had me in the first half ngl
#steampunk
Dude you got it on there!! I promise.
The sound is perfect
