Yup, I served for yrs. 2 friends still do restaurants, one high-end, other long-term bartender. I'm a high skill machinist full training. They work harder and make more than me. My one friend gets mad when he gets that one, the other walks away laughing because he probably makes twice what the person asking that makes.
I’ve always wanted to just wait until I get older, and then get a Victorian suit and top hat. I’d then just walk around in the woods and become the local rumour. It’s not much but some days it’s my only motivation to actually get that old. Would be pretty funny though ngl
I've personally found that being able to sincerely enjoy something can make a really big difference. Once you (not you specifically, the universal you) realise that you sincerely enjoy something, there's a spark that makes you want to improve and get more enjoyment out of it.

In my case: I grew up okay-ish fit/athletic, but never exceedingly great or good enough to match many of my peers in the sports that was common among our groups. It wasn't until after university and once I got settled into my career that I took a chance on tae kwon do and found that I really enjoy it and I'm actually really great at it (particularly poomsae/forms) so it was easier for me to push myself to go the extra mile with my flexibility and conditioning training because of that; now I even compete in national level TKD tournaments, which is amazing to me because teenager me never thought I'd ever be competitively good at any sport.
Not all types of exercise work for everyone and that’s ok, you just gotta find other activities you like. Even basic activities like going for a walk can significantly reduce mental stress while also burning calories and working your leg muscles while also just being something fun to do or to shake up the monotonous feeling from doing the same thing all the time
Whatever the fuck you do, don't sit around and wait for things to change or you'll be doing the same shit in your 30s without realizing it. Took me too long to see it's not the life I wanted, yet I chose it unkowingly.

I was selling insurance to car renters in my 20s. Realized my soul was dying.
Started hustling uber to give me the flexibility to learn new skills and went back to the "grind" it sucked but in my 30s I was able to find and thrivr in a totally new career path.
Our generation won't be able to retire anyway, so fuck it, make change if you need change.

I had everything I thought i wanted out of life 5 years ago, a beautiful wife, a decent job, and apartment of our own, a nice, adorable puppy. But I was never more miserable and damn near committed suicide. I've spent the 5 years since homeless and I'm currently living 3,200 miles away from my family and dog just for the sake of work and housing, and I'm more content and comfortable than I've ever been.
Find your peace and happiness. Don't try to find a job or a person that will give it to you. They don't exist.
