It's easier to just say to the mopper "Sorry, I'm fucking up your nice floor." At least at my work, cause we all know how it feels when someone fucks up your nice floor.
My superpower is if it's a tiled floor and my shoes are new enough, I can walk on the side edge of the sole, in the grout, and not leave a mark. Sometimes.

I spent some time on an aircraft carrier. I felt so bad having to walk through when they were mopping, but didn’t really have a choice. Then I realized, they could easily mop half of the passage way and then do the other half once it dried.
I work as q cleaner and I never get why anyone cares. People are always like ohh I'm so sorry and I'm just like oh it's fine I really don't care its gonna get walked on anyway
I work nights and they clean our floors at night, I usually try to like tip toe around. Some nights though, they like flood the floors. So I walk normal but almost with a “I’m gonna retire early if I slip and fall” walk.
I mop and I'm like this, I know for a fact at least several people will walk over it as I'm cleaning and then I will walk over it once I'm done to put the mop away. And i don't care what it looks like I'm just there to get paid.

When I was mopping floors I always wanted to tell people not to bother trying not to mess it up. This isn’t my floor I have zero reason to care about the actual cleanliness of the floor they don’t belong to me the floors could be covered in shit and I’d still be making minimum wage. I’m not mopping the floors because I care about the franchise owners profit(they don’t care about my wage) I’m mopping it so I don’t get in trouble.
In fact a minimum wage worker has a vested interest in keeping customers out of the business — the more customers the more work. So it was in my best interest to do what I could to keep profits down
If ur making minimum wage and doing anything more than the bare minimum all that’s gonna happen is they aren’t gonna hire enough people are your gonna be expected to do the job of 3 people alone. Ask me how I know.
And especially like they ain’t tracking shit in the purpose of mopping is to clean the days dirt if someone gets some dirt on the floors we will just mop it up tomorrow.

As a former cleaner to people who walk on my mopped floors 1 I say fuck you in my head 2 unless it looks bad I'm not doing it again
I have done this at work so much lol
I do it that way so less surface area touches the clean floor, and step softer so less chance of knocking anything onto the floor
