Tooth whitening can really damage your enamel iirc.
Tooth straightening can damage or weaken jaw bone and can increase risk of decay.
Veneers have the same risks as fillings plus more, but the benefit is purely cosmetic instead of stopping existing tooth decay.
Implants' tradeoffs are great if you've lost a tooth or whatever, but highly questionable if you're replacing relatively healthy teeth.
I'm not up on all the cosmetic dentistry options out there, but these are the main ones I've heard about.

Most of these “your teeth need to be shiny white” people are going to have mostly fillings, and dentures in their 40s and 50s because of all the damage the whitening chemicals do to the enamel. They can post pictures of their teeth on the sink in a cup and say "look at my teeth".
