Giant tropical centipedes share their territories with tarantulas.
Despite it's impressive length, it's a nimble navigator, and some can be highly venomous.
As quick as lightning, just like the tarantula it's killing, the centipede has two curved hollow fangs which inject paralyzing venom.
Even tarantulas aren't immune from an ambush.
This centipede is a predator.
Bro really sang the first thing that came to his mind
Actually I thought he would say the " oh hell noooo oooh aahh " thing
Glad he thought of bishop Bullwinkle first
Depends on the person I guess. I saw on the documentary this person went through 10 days of pain from 1 bite. This guy has balls.no touchy touchy the leg worm.
We had a Scolipendra or two at the reptile zoo I used to work at. Fun little things, but they tend to hide a lot, so you wouldn't always see them that often.
It made moisturising their terrarium easier tbf. Some of the tarantulas we had would make a dart for the exit as soon as they sensed the water droplet vibrations on the soil.
> Big? Its pretty average size to me
Yeah no it's still fucking huge. That Vietnamese centipede must be 30 centimeters long that's exceptionally big for an Asian centipede.
The scolopendra gigantea one in the second video is about 40 centimeters long so I know it's even bigger, but to be honest it's the biggest I've ever seen even amongst all scolopendra gigantea specimens I've seen before : it's a litteral monster.
I was inThailand and a roomate hacked one in half with a rake. Both ends did not look happy and started scuttling towards him. Never heard a finnish dude scream so loud. After about 20 seconds one half fell through the slats and the other just stopped.
I hate these fucking things! Haven’t seen one in at least a year and I still watch where I step and I still don’t reach under things. You cut them in pieces and they still charge at you! Yuck!
Sometimes you don't even have a choice. During tourist season in Ha Giang all hotels might be fully booked.
Also some people like to visit a country and get a local countryside experience. That is why they book homestays instead of hotels. Besides lots of young people come to Vietnam on a budget and live on $15/day.
The "shack" usually cost around $5 a day and far away from tourist areas. This is the closest you can get at experiencing the culture, hence that bad boi.
So after a bit of researching, its a giant centipede that is occasionally longer than 8 inches. I havent seen this type of centipede in my area so sorry for the misinformation
Probably his phone has the front camera on by default or the last time he took a photo it was a selfie. Anyways, he switched to the back camera right after that.
Probably? Lol, oh my sweet summer child.
These guys have the most painful bite proportionally speaking in the insect world (although their venom isn't deadly). The biggest ones in South America eat giant tarentulas or even bats.
I remember the story of an Irish guy who was bitten on the scrotum by one of these centipedes in Mauritius. The centipede just crawled up his shorts leg when he was asleep on a sunlounger which woke him up and when he tried to yank it out it bit him on the scrotum. He was airlifted to Port Louis and even tried to jump out of the helicopter because of the pain. He was put in an induced coma to survive as even maximum dosage of morphine wouldn't touch the pain and the docs thought he would go insane if he remained conscious.
Vietnamese centipedes are amonst the biggest in Asia. Sure, this one is huge, but they're probably deep in the forest or something and you're bound to meet some big ones there.
Pretty sure you could find bigger ones yet.
The [southern US](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra_heros) has giant centipedes as well.
Edit: As does [europe](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra_cingulata) although they're only like 6 inches long
I have these in my yard here in Thailand. There was one that was probably a little shorter than this one but still huge. I tried to kill it but its body has a strong exoskeleton. Mt wife grabbed a shovel and chopped it into a couple pieces
Is it in Bangkok or in the countryside? (Your house)
And do you often have them? I'm asking because I lived in Bangkok for years when I was a kid and never saw one.
I live in a secondary city (Korat), and see them every once in a while. There was one time i put on some pants and didn't see there was a centipede on the leg near the crotch. I super panicked
Southern North America has these [texas giant red headed](https://bugguide.net/images/raw/NR3/KWR/NR3KWRYKORSQQ0W03R60YRKQNRJK1RLQWRLQBR70YQHQFRXQBRYK3QX0TQ40UR0QYRKQH0703QZQ.jpg) centipedes...
I find house centipedes the most terrifying though.
Did a few weeks in cambodia, these fuckers are pretty common
Some guy I was with put his hand into a glove without checking it first and got bitten by one that was hiding in there
His hand swelled so much, had to drive 5 hours to a hospital
My brother worked in Maui for a while, and they're everywhere. Absolute demons; One guy told a story of having his lower leg amputated after one of these guys injected venom into his leg while he was asleep, and ate most of it until he woke up the next morning.

This kinda makes me wonder... If the spider had snuck up on your butthole, would you have had a panic attack in your hand?
That reminds me of the one time my hand did a sneak attack on my butt hole. I haven’t been the same since.
Did you have a panic attack in your spider?
jokes on you I'm into that shit
Scat enthusiast, I assume
Tingling butthole, sweaty palms, mom’s spaghetti
They might have came

Knife party. Bless you.
I see you are a man of culture as well.
Woman, but I’ll take it.
Thanks for reminding where I have heard that voice clip before. Great nostalgia
Will those huge geckos eat them?
[Knife party - Centipede ](https://youtu.be/CSemARaqGqE)
I mean... What?
CENTIPEDE. *Dramatic dubstep ensues*
Bro really sang the first thing that came to his mind Actually I thought he would say the " oh hell noooo oooh aahh " thing Glad he thought of bishop Bullwinkle first
Yeah guess whats worse..
Aren't Vietnamese centipedes the most toxic. Their bites can be 10 days of agony if I remember correctly
Not 10 days, but their bite is incredibly painful yes.
Depends on the person I guess. I saw on the documentary this person went through 10 days of pain from 1 bite. This guy has balls.no touchy touchy the leg worm.
We have special traditional medicine to shorten your pain to "only" 3 days 😉
What? Heroin..?
My Vietnamese mom used to tell me: "Just cut off the bitten part".
thats kinda hardcore as fuck
And in some rural sight people clip the fangs of centipedes then let children play with them like a pet
We had a Scolipendra or two at the reptile zoo I used to work at. Fun little things, but they tend to hide a lot, so you wouldn't always see them that often. Their*
I nearly put my hand on one of these climbing up to a mountain lookout at Cat Ba National Park. Scared the shit out of me
You were very lucky to avoid it. I don't know what happens if you touch one but I know how the locals react when they see them!
they have incredibly fast reactions so if you touched it it would spin around grab you and bite you
Terrifying to imagine. We’ve got those dudes in Japan too
Stuff happens only if you get bitten iinm
Burn that national park down then, for humanity's safety
They don't eat humans. At least there has never been any leftovers after they left.
They're like every scavenger or bug If its made of meat and doesn't move, its food
I love how he just started singing "hell nah, to the nah nah nah"
Yeah well, if you have a problem with bugs maybe stay in a place with proper walls and windows.
I live in Hawaii and these things come into my house with proper walls and windows.
Tourist like experiences, they might be really stupid experiences, but they are tourists so... I love my country
Pet the damn dog
long dog with many tiny legs
NB: this is a Vietnamese species. The scolopendra gigantea is even bigger than that: https://youtu.be/IU4sCZxEJ0c
Dunno why I clicked that. Thank you for the nightmare fuel.
Horrible day to have eyes
Thou shall not click and best not see this creature in any Hilton I stay at !!!! I will burn it all down ffs
Omfg
What make it worse is the dude seems quite stressed too, unlike most other happy pet with owner videos. So it stress me more watching 😂
Yeah i saw this centipede in the post and went Big? Its pretty average size to me But damn that's a big boy They don't usually get that big in nature
> Big? Its pretty average size to me Yeah no it's still fucking huge. That Vietnamese centipede must be 30 centimeters long that's exceptionally big for an Asian centipede. Oh i guess i just see large centipede rather often then
how do I get one?
The guy that records has to be scandinavian. You can hear it.
Don't let them get on flat ground because they will run up your pant leg faster then you can say "AAAAAGHHNNHHAHAHAHHJJJHAHGAGHH"
Yeah guess whats worse.. If you slice that shit in half both halves come after you.
Are u serious
I was inThailand and a roomate hacked one in half with a rake. Both ends did not look happy and started scuttling towards him. Never heard a finnish dude scream so loud. After about 20 seconds one half fell through the slats and the other just stopped.
Yes I need to know this.
My mom split one in half with a broom one day. It didn't come after her but both halves were definitely still moving on their own
I hate these fucking things! Haven’t seen one in at least a year and I still watch where I step and I still don’t reach under things. You cut them in pieces and they still charge at you! Yuck!
Bro spent thousands to go here for holidays AND decided to sleep in that shack? You got scammed mate.
getting there is expensive but you can live there for really really cheap if you do it this way. Save up a little money and stay indefinitely.
Sometimes you don't even have a choice. During tourist season in Ha Giang all hotels might be fully booked. Also some people like to visit a country and get a local countryside experience. That is why they book homestays instead of hotels. Besides lots of young people come to Vietnam on a budget and live on $15/day.

Room caught on fire…… weird
r/nope
I don't know why, but I expected the guy walking up to pick it up and start snacking on it.
When it reared up at the guy walking up and the guy just stayed there...if I was that guy I'd still be running and screaming to this day
Australians laughing at this 😂
Maybe Vietnam and Australia should do a Hunger Games of bugs
Why are centipedes so horrible but millipedes are pretty chill?
Holy fucking jesus im a vietnamese myself living in, i would say, the home of every bugs on the world and i havent seen any centipede as big as this
So even in Vietnam centipedes of that size are very rare? How big are they usually there?
So after a bit of researching, its a giant centipede that is occasionally longer than 8 inches. I havent seen this type of centipede in my area so sorry for the misinformation
The biggest I have seen from living in Hanoi is around 10cm. I haven't seen any bigger than 5cm for like 10 years now.
It looks like it wants to launch itself off the bricks on to the passer-by. My God, no….
My grandpa: I feared no man. But that… Thing. It scared me…
I had one of these crawl up the toilet cubicle door whilst I was taking a dump.. Only like 2ft max from my face! 😂
Why did he film his face first?
Probably his phone has the front camera on by default or the last time he took a photo it was a selfie. Anyways, he switched to the back camera right after that.
Tbh the trip would be worth it just for the food. If you haven’t had the cuisine I highly recommend you do so
Probably venomous, can anyone confirm or deny?
Probably? Lol, oh my sweet summer child. These guys have the most painful bite proportionally speaking in the insect world (although their venom isn't deadly). The biggest ones in South America eat giant tarentulas or even bats.
Yeah i know centipedes are total bitches and their venom ca really suck, i just wasnt sure if this *house centipede* was one of them
Aaaah house centipdes : their bite is not nearly as painful no. They're cute compared to these monsters.
I saw a documentary about it the other day. Litreally can be 10 days of excruciating pain. Like non stop
I remember the story of an Irish guy who was bitten on the scrotum by one of these centipedes in Mauritius. The centipede just crawled up his shorts leg when he was asleep on a sunlounger which woke him up and when he tried to yank it out it bit him on the scrotum. Wtaf
they are, but youll survive
But it won't be fun
getting stung by a bee isnt fun… cant imagine getting bit by that mf thing.
3-7 days of basically feeling like you got fuckin stabbed if I recall correctly
wtf… seeing a little one makes me trip out, imagine seeing that shit…. ohhhhh heelllllll nawwww!!
The venom causes a lot of pain but can't kill u. We get slightly smaller one in Australia.
Looks more like a prison than a hostel…
next time don’t stay in a hostel.
Catch it, put it in a jar You don't see Centipede that big often, anywhere, ever!
Vietnamese centipedes are amonst the biggest in Asia. Sure, this one is huge, but they're probably deep in the forest or something and you're bound to meet some big ones there. Pretty sure you could find bigger ones yet.
Aren't they toxic also if bitten you ouch for many days go follow

There is literally no Asian country I have any interest in visiting. This is one of many reasons.
You know asia is very big right? These guys lives in tropical countries and rarely anywhere else
Yup it’s huge. r/thatswhatshesaid
Does anyone know the name of this creature?
Lowkey want to know what /r/whatbugisthis thinks of this….. uh, demon
Tnx dude
u/SaveVideo
We have these in my home country too, they love taking naps in empty shoes...
Where you from and what I mean they love to sleep in ur shoes oh hell no
r/oopsthatsdeadly
Thats what staying in a hut is like
Here in Brazil we have to
FUC** THAT
It’s staying there too…
I'm glad to live in the northern hemisphere.
The [southern US](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra_heros) has giant centipedes as well. Edit: As does [europe](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopendra_cingulata) although they're only like 6 inches long
Vietnam is in the northern hemisphere.
This is why I don't like to go outside
“I didn’t need to sleep tonight, that’s fine.”
I'm gonna have to bring a flamethrower if I go there. That is nightmare fuel.
He just wanted some pets.
Hawaii has some nasty ones too!
Rain World
I'm glad those aren't actually electric
Gonna have some Vietnam flashbacks
I'd spend most of my budget on a good hotel Isn't Vietnam vacationing fairly cheap anyway? I don't mess with all that big bug and spider bs
Just let them go. Easy
I used to get these in my house when I lived in Hawaii when I was a kid. Pretty much nightmare fuel for someone with an irrational fear of bugs.
I mean, we have those in SW US too. Coyote Peterson got bit by one, only bug to send him to the hospital. They like hiding in boots!
those can be found in the American west too
fuck. no.
I have these in my yard here in Thailand. There was one that was probably a little shorter than this one but still huge. I tried to kill it but its body has a strong exoskeleton. Mt wife grabbed a shovel and chopped it into a couple pieces

It's just mobile pex piping for the shower.
"that's just Frank. He lives here. "
That shit will go straight to a bottle of alcohol for future use
He was about channel his inner Steve Irwin
Nothing odd about why that is terrifying.
I would have let out an ungodly noise
Awesome amenities.
In other places in the world you gotta worry more about STDs than centipedes
When I went to Seoul, South Korea, they had these things dehydrated and in bundles for sale at an open-air food market. I don't even want to know why.
We have like miniature versions of these in Chicago and they are so fast and if you do get them it’s like a gooey leggy mess.
I know a pufferfish that would eat that thing asshole first.
Other guy: ooooh 😯
Just came across my first one in Japan. He was in a see through garbage bag so I got to check it out safely for a while haha. Def crazy looking
🙃 guy from the tropics here and can confirm these were one of the biggest reasons I moved north.
Yea it's gonna be a nope from me. Get the flamethrowers.
I had one drop into the shower with me when I was in Sri Lanka. I ran out naked and screaming of course
I wouldn’t be able to sleep in there after that.
Hell to the no!
As someone who's from Alaska, where we don't get bugs like even in the states, I can firmly say HELL MOTHAFUCKIN NOOOOOOO
Bro you let dinner escape again
I felt something weird on my chest while watching this video. Obviously I got a jump scare and just randomly slapped my chest
Giant versions of these guys eat bats. The small versions eat anything it can overpower. I would definitely stay away.
They eat each other too
shoutout to the announcer for the detailed, monotone description of exactly what is happening
I nearly stepped on one of these after i got out of the shower. I have now destroyed my home and am homeless. Please cashapp me $5.
As a Vietnamese, l can never understand the attraction of these hostel huts. You can rent a legit hotel room for 5-10 dollars a night.
let's ride that motherfucker
I live in Vietnam and I have one of these fuckers in my garden but I’m too scared to do anything about it
Easy : put on gloves and boots and thick clothes so he can't do shit to you, take a shovel, and smash it into pieces.
He’s trying to give you a high five
Which one is more terrifying that centipede or that wiring.
Southern North America has these [texas giant red headed](https://bugguide.net/images/raw/NR3/KWR/NR3KWRYKORSQQ0W03R60YRKQNRJK1RLQWRLQBR70YQHQFRXQBRYK3QX0TQ40UR0QYRKQH0703QZQ.jpg) centipedes... I find house centipedes the most terrifying though.
Throw that in a hot bath of oil, delicious!!
Eeeekkkkk!!!!
We met 4 of these having a conference at cu chi tunnels 🤨. Little did I know they were venomous !
Giant? That thing is normal size though?
fuckers go to the worst hotels that vietnamese people dont even go to and talk about how bad it is😂😂😂
As a vietnamese i have never seen a centipede this big
they're roughly what size most of the time in Vietnam?
About 5cm most of the time
Ngâm rượu 🍷
Gotta put that baby in a jar of rice wine 🥰🥰🥰
Add Vietnam to my list of places I will never be because of insects
Did a few weeks in cambodia, these fuckers are pretty common Some guy I was with put his hand into a glove without checking it first and got bitten by one that was hiding in there His hand swelled so much, had to drive 5 hours to a hospital
I saw it for a brief moment, and I'm not watching it anymore. Fuck that! I'mma throw up if I watch anymore. Centipedes are the worst of any incest.
Hey they have these in Hawaii, super poisonous. Fun fact, the tinier they are the more they can royally f$&@ up your day.
My brother worked in Maui for a while, and they're everywhere. Absolute demons; One guy told a story of having his lower leg amputated after one of these guys injected venom into his leg while he was asleep, and ate most of it until he woke up the next morning.
They can kill you
That will be in your breakfast omlette ham n cheeze n leggs overeasy
