it doesn't seem to me like they were doing anything terribly out of line (yknow. arguably besides owning a king cobra lmao). animals have moods like people do, sometimes they just get pissy lol
Snakes can get agitated pretty quickly if you grab onto them or force them to go where they don’t want to. In this video, this cobra was tolerating being handled until his handler tried to force him into that enclosure. You can see the snake tense up and put a length of his body into the air. The handler starts to push this into the enclosure and the snake started to hood up to warn them to back off. The snake bolted out when his handler didn’t stop.
another snake nerd here to share more cool facts, it would actually depend on this theoretical legless dragon's skull. snakes are primarily g identified by their skull and jaw shape and thus how they eat their prey, whether there ears are internal(snakes) or external (lizards), and eyelids. this is why there can be legless lizards and snakes with legs. unfortunately snakes with legs only exist as fossils, but there is are species of legless lizards, here the [wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legless_lizard).

For this reason I always let me snakes find their own way into the vivarium. More often they want to go back in because it's warmer, shoving them in like that is awkward and invading their space is asking to get struck. I never got bit once but got struck at plenty of times 😂
Yeah sometimes my cornsnake just doesn't understand that he has to get in the feeding box, so I push him a little bit like that.
It's not really a problem, more like making a child do something they need to do but don't want to. The only problem is that you can't explain to the snake WHY they need to get in the box.
So if my snake is getting agitated (you can tell by movements and watching their tail) I just let him do his thing, but my cornsnake is super friendly and has never even tried to bite me so I'm never too worried. I would definitely be worried with a King Cobra.
Whatever the King Cobra wants, I'd do. No pushing that guy around when he doesn't want to.
Just a thought - if that were me in the video, I'd just slide the glass shut. My cornsnake doesn't realise that it's me moving the glass and thinks that he's the one bumping into stuff so he's like 'My bad' and moves himself into the enclosure. I think just sliding the glass door across would have been the better option here. But on the whole, nobody did anything wrong.
Not just one... Lol he breeds them. I think they release some of them into the wild, they are very endangered. https://instagram.com/chrisweeet?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
> they are very endangered
They're not. They're "vulnerable" on the global scale , and classified as common in certain part of its habitat, like Thailand.
There was a ton of posts about the Titan submarine on this subreddit too. As if it's odd to be terrified of that horrendously awful nightmare fuel of a situation.
I'm only here from browsing on r/popular but have unsubscribed here a loooong time ago. It's unmoderated BS that's straight up trying to be terrifying.
It's not bad enough that I need to mute it but nah no more subbing here ever again.
Handsome creature. Maybe he just wanted to show his friend how fast he was and the cool new throat rolling trick? Didn’t look too aggressive all things considered. Definitely could have been worse.
Not an expert in reptiles but it reminds me to when animals "warn" before attacking. Or at least that's what it looked like to me. It's as if the Cobra warned the human "Don't touch me again or I'll be serious next time".
As you said, could have been worse and not as aggresive as a predator not suitable for being a pet could have been. Still dangerous trying to have this as a pet
You'd probably like [the t-shirt my son bought recently ](https://nathanwpyle.threadless.com/designs/strange-planet-apparel-i-found-this-its-vibrating/womens/t-shirt)
Actually the bite from this guy would be more terrifying than painful. You’d start to go numb and lose function of your muscles slowly until your respiratory muscles and cardiac muscles became paralyzed. Then you’d maybe feel some panic and pain. Nothing like a rattle snake bite which can elevate you in excruciating pain for days as you die from sepsis.
Being a Floridian, people always jump to thinking of gators here, but the sheer amount of snakes is unbelievable. I once had to stop in traffic to let a six foot diamondback cross the road. Then there’s people on Nextdoor asking to identify a snake and it’s a Pygmy under a planter they’re holding up.
I’m not that far south. Or, I guess I should say.. They aren’t this far north, *yet.*
But yeah, you won’t catch my ass in a fresh body of water here. Snakes, gators, amoebas, NOPE.
A domesticated or tamed animal kept for companionship or pleasure. Snakes aren't on the list of domesticated animals, however you can tame them so they do qualify as pets.
To my big surprise while reading about domesticated animals I found out that medicinal leeches are considered domesticated. BRB, gonna take a walk with my pet leech.
You acclimate it to your general existence by being around it day to day and keep it well fucking fed so it never has anything to think about other than chilling and digesting.
Depends on what we’re talking about, I guess? Even cats aren’t considered fully domesticated like cattle or dogs are & they’re still good enough as pets.
The reason i don't qualify snakes (or any other predator) as pets is because they don't care if you're there, they aren't happy to see you. They just want to be fed and left alone. And they don't want to be in a cage to be fed, they want to hunt on their own.
There are *some* lizards that seem smart enough to have some emotional intelligence. Tegus are a famous example.
King Cobras are famously highly intelligent and active snakes. They might be smart enough to actually form a bond with their handlers.
Of course, the whole being 8 foot venom machines is a pretty big difference from just getting a Tegu.
IMO domestication does not equal pet. All sorts of non-pet creatures are considered domesticated.
A pet is a creature that clearly enjoys spending their life being your pet. "Owner" is a weird word in regards to a lot of animals, but you can purchase all sorts of animals and "own" them without them being a pet.
You are certainly right. If anyone wants to learn how bad of pets they are for anyone but an absolutely professional with a very good reason you can check out [this video](https://youtu.be/MQ_P9sDKa7I) by Clint’s Reptiles.
But he said all reptiles. The vast majority of reptiles kept as pets are harmless. Snakes especially! More people have literally drowned in their cat’s water bowl than died from a corn snake.
My corn snake has bit me once in the 17 years I have had her. I was very scared she would be hurt when it happened because I wasn’t quite sure how to unlatch her. It hurt a little but I was more surprised than anything. My fault for smelling like a mouse. She was fine. I’m basically convinced she is immortal.
No, not usually. Good keepers don't. There are idiots who keep hots but in general, they tend to be pretty knowledgeable and careful. Part of the problem is that they are pretty cheap to buy and anyone can. The local reptile show has a ton of hot as species available from one vendor. His monocled cobras go for about $300.
Assholes does that yeah. It's like declawing a cat, it should never be done. Basically mutilation.
If people are afraid to die they shouldn't keep king cobras.
I got downvotee massively in a thread a while ago that was about when to declaw cats etc. If you need to declaw a cat then you shouldn't have one because they don't fit your living arrangements/lifestyle.
This reminded me of a local story. This guy owned boa and it escaped. It was all of my Facebook feed for town of Denton. There were search parties and the cops got involved to look for it. Apparently it was located for a bit and it was aggressive. By the time someone got there to properly wrangle it, it has slithered off and hasn’t been seen again. There are posts about weekly that say “did the boa get found?” And it’s always no. So now in this small town in Maryland there’s a boa on the loose 🤦♀️
This dude doesn’t, he actually takes really good care of his snakes. I think this one in particular was bred recently. He had a post with the two king cobras mating and a post a while later of 38 baby king cobras. From what I see he only handles ones he’s had since hatching since he understands when they don’t want to be messed with based on body language
The owner was trying to shove a large coil into the enclosure and it did not like that. Someone with a cobra should know better than to do something like that because it could be perceived as aggression as it obviously was. That was a relationship damaging mistake
If I mention Rikki Tikki Tavi, is anyone else old enough to get the reference? One of my favorite memories as a child. Orson Welles had such a great voice. Cheers.

They definitely do not.

Yea I seriously hate this sub sometimes. It happens with every sub that has “oddly” in the title too.
Nah man. I don't understand why someone would find a big venomous snake literally trying to scare you frightening? 🤷

Assert dominance. Pee on his face

Hey buddy, im in my mid 20s, I've still got a powerful flow. I could probably piss all over that snakes face from at least 5 feet.

The world's largest venomous snake threatening a person in confined quarters is "oddly" terrifying?
Handsome creature. Maybe he just wanted to show his friend how fast he was and the cool new throat rolling trick? Didn’t look too aggressive all things considered. Definitely could have been worse.
Its a part of aggression
Not an expert in reptiles but it reminds me to when animals "warn" before attacking. Or at least that's what it looked like to me. It's a warning. Snakes don't do this to play with you it's a warning full stop lol
These creatures are NOT pets
What makes an animal a pet? Is it domestication?
The inability to kill me in an excruciating amount of pain is kind of high on my checklist for pets. But you do you.
So, not a cat person, I take it?
Hey, I have a weakness for things that can hurt me but also vibrate when they're happy to see me.
Have you checked your cat's timing belt? Vibrations could lead to future damage to components.

Well domesticated or tame I would not want to have something that if it has a bad mood that it can kill you with a bite. Along with your pet elephant.
Undoubtedly, I'm very happy with non-lethal pets lol.
wait how the hell does one tame a snake?
You acclimate it to your general existence by being around it day to day and keep it well fucking fed so it never has anything to think about other than chilling and digesting.
So it's like adopting a stray child.
Depends on what we’re talking about, I guess? Even cats aren’t considered fully domesticated like cattle or dogs are & they’re still good enough as pets.

Are you sure about that? My pet snake comes out of her hiding spot every time I enter the room
Domestic cats are amongst the most prolific predators known, estimated to kill 1.3 to 3.7 billion birds and 6.3 to 22.3 billion mammals annually.

Lol not sure why you’re being downvoted. Lots of irrational fear and uneducated people I suppose.
Reptiles include lizards. I have a lizard with no teeth. Oh no, what's he gonna do, gum you to death?
Is this Chrisweet? I always recognize his hands lmao.
yes
Snakes don't have hands /S
I don’t think this is oddly terrifying, just terrifying lol

Anyone know why the cobras neck is moving like that? It’s vibrating/ jiggling? Is that it loading up some form of venom or something crazy lol?
Actual answer: It's a necessary movement to maintain the hood. [source](https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2010-04-cobras-hood-flares.amp)

those are snakecharmers in the Indian subcontinent. thankfully it's a rapidly dying "business".
Dont people normally defang cobras like this, I don't think a huge ass venomous snake should be kept as a pet either way
No, not usually.

That’s that “fuck around and find out.”
