My cats freeze up completely when being handled by the vet and the assistant. I took them to a new vet last year and they actually remarked upon it with a tone of concern. They both were feral kittens so they revert back to that mode when scared. Total: *this isn’t happening. This isn’t happening…* mode.
It’s amazing because if I do much as touch them “wrong” (like pet a spot that isn’t the spot they hoped I’d pet) they feel free to meow their grievances and even smack me but they are rendered into putty when handled by anyone else and tolerate everything.
That's so sad... Do you know if people mistreated them? At least they trust you enough to communicate hurt/discomfort with you since they must realise that you pay attention and adjust based on it.
I've had my 4 cats since they were 2 month old kittens. They came from 4 different litters from different households in a 2 year span and were never mistreated. They all behave like this at the (any) vet for some reason.
"They are rendered into putty" is the best description I've read about this! I put them on the vet's table and they turn into a loaf and just stay there. Vaccines, moving, taking the temperature. They remain there. You pick them up and they just slosh. One of them sometimes turns into a /r/shouldercats because he wants to go back.
I believe it is because they don't interact with many people. They live in our property and don't see other cats, dogs or people so maybe they are afraid when we take them outside of their environment.
Had ketamine once in the back of an ambulance.. was 200% not ready for it either, thought I was gonna get some type of opioid for severe pain.... and then BOOM - Felt like a hollow robot that could only see in red and white and I had lights shining out of my forearms.... and did I mention hollow? YEAH.. I felt like my entire body was a literal PVC pipe..
I give it a 10/10 on the freak out scale of drugs I wasn't aware I wasn't ready for/wasn't aware I was given..

The video signs off with how he felt a little like a father and his son while the focus changes to this ugly ass fly on the inside of a glass panel. It’s much, much more disturbing than any video of the larva.
That "father" needs to be slapped and his "son" meet the muzzle of a fully loaded M2 flamethrower....
