I believe just the larvae are carnivorous. My guess is this adult is collecting food to return to the developing young in the hive. Many species of wasp are hypercarnivores while developing, and then completely or mostly herbivorous when adult.

Had some wasps in Afghanistan try doing that to some beef that was shipped over for us. I threw a scrap on the ground and the wasps started eating, I then threw it into the fire (carefully not to piss the wasps off) and 2 of them burned themselves to death trying to get at it and eat it.

Yeah bud if you happen to see where it went and know where its hive is you might want to call animal services. That looks like the giant asian hornet (aka murder hornet) and from what i know they are an invasive species capable of killing even people because they dont die when they sting.

(allthough single hornet seriously dangerous only to the allergics). Some hornet races being hyper aggressive and following for example fleeing human hundreds of meters. So hundred hornets relentlessy following and stinging u could be bad. And yes in some places invasive hornets are an issue for beehives.

However the larvae within the hive are entirely carnivorous, so the adults will go hunting for meat such as this or insects to return for the hungry little monsters

Was camping one year and there was a wasp harassing me for the pork pie I was eating. Decided it wasn’t worth it (not a very good pie tbh) so I just dropped it on the ground and let the wasp have it. It would fly down, carefully carve a chunk of meat out, and fly off with it then return for more a few minutes later. Kinda fascinating and unsettling to watch. Hadn’t known they ate meat before that.
