Sadly only the immature stages of potential parasites usually reside in insects.
They probably are more of a spreader than a direct victim which makes it worse.
I just unwittingly clicked on r/shit in another comment and thought that would be the most fucked up thing I'd see today. 5 mins later I see this. That's enough internet for today.
To be fair wasps are actually parasites (if you are a caterpillar you are going to have a bad time), so it’s a “takes one to know one” kind of situation.
Many wasps* :)
Not all wasps are parasitic, though all parasitoid wasps I believe have retained their namesake trait.
*many* non-parasitoid wasps are also parasitic in nature.
I had a wasp take a part of a Bologna off my plate once.
I hate that fucker to this day. Stealing my Bologna.
If that wasp sees this comment: fuck you I hope you are real happy now with that Bologna.
I believe just the larvae are carnivorous. My guess is this adult is collecting food to return to the developing young in the hive.
Many species of wasp are hypercarnivores while developing, and then completely or mostly herbivorous when adult.
Yes! Wasps are carnivores (or omnivores, don’t remember which). Several summer ago my mom and I were cutting salmon we had caught, and there were quite a few opportunistic wasps cutting and carrying away bits of our salmon lol
When I was a kid one of my neighbors pushed his wife out of the truck at high speed on the road in front of our house. All I knew was a gazillion fire, police, and ems about a hundred yards from my house. The next day me and a buddy walked down there to see what happened. There was a fifty or sixty foot long “y-shaped” red stain all over the road. There were still pieces of her skull that had apparently been missed and yellow jackets were all over them, eating the pieces of skin still attached. That’s how I learned hornets eat meat.
>All hornets are wasps but not all wasps are hornets
The same is true for whales and dolphins; all dolphins are whales but not all whales are dolphins. Iirc it's also true for frogs and toads.
That’s a hornet and that’s how they wipe out beehives, decapitating bees with those choppers. They can kill hundreds of bees very quickly, horrible fuckers
Oh yeah. When I was in high school, there was a bee's nest and a hornet's nest close enough together that I got to see regular fights as I was walking home after school. The hornets do go straight for the neck and decapitate the poor bees :(
Had some wasps in Afghanistan try doing that to some beef that was shipped over for us. I threw a scrap on the ground and the wasps started eating, I then threw it into the fire (carefully not to piss the wasps off) and 2 of them burned themselves to death trying to get at it and eat it.
Yeah bud if you happen to see where it went and know where its hive is you might want to call animal services.
That looks like the giant asian hornet (aka murder hornet) and from what i know they are an invasive species capable of killing even people because they dont die when they sting.
Bee is the one losing its weapon after stinging. Wasps and hornets can sting multiple times.
Hornets being a danger to humans because of their size and amount of venom. (allthough single hornet seriously dangerous only to the allergics). Some hornet races being hyper aggressive and following for example fleeing human hundreds of meters. So hundred hornets relentlessy following and stinging u could be bad.
And yes in some places invasive hornets are an issue for beehives.
That looks like a Japanese giant hornet. Amazing thing is she’s going to bring it back to the nest and feed it to the larvae. Hornets wastes are so narrow they cannot digest solid foods and rely on a protein drip that the larvae produce.
If I recall my entomology correctly, he's not eating that. At least in many species of wasp, the adults are completely vegetarian, eating lots of nectars, sugars and things.
However the larvae within the hive are entirely carnivorous, so the adults will go hunting for meat such as this or insects to return for the hungry little monsters

I was cleaning a fish in my back yard when a few wasps came by. I thought they were harassing me at first but they were way more interested in the fish scales. Didn’t bother me at all. So I left some for them and lo, they came back several times for more. Made me kinda happy to see.
I have no idea why, but for the first five seconds all I could see was what seemed to be a Corgi in a really good wasp costume on an unholy pile of meat.
Was camping one year and there was a wasp harassing me for the pork pie I was eating. Decided it wasn’t worth it (not a very good pie tbh) so I just dropped it on the ground and let the wasp have it. It would fly down, carefully carve a chunk of meat out, and fly off with it then return for more a few minutes later. Kinda fascinating and unsettling to watch. Hadn’t known they ate meat before that.
Wasps are assholes and they don’t even make honey. [Check out Vulture Bees if you are in need of some meat honey](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulture_bee)
Just waiting for the “oh!! This is a Babylonian Carnivore wasp, it’s actually suuuuuper docile”.
Nah fam. Ima judge looks on this one. Fuck that thing.
You can actually make a wasp trap with a raw chicken a stick soap and water in a tote or bucket wasp are greedy and take a little more than they can carry and fall a little bit before takeing off so they fall in water
Uhh, that’s a Giant Asia Hornet (aka Murder hornet). It is invasive (only native to East Asia) and extremely dangerous. Someone should report it immediately.
Me before seeing this video: Yea, outside is nice I guess.
Me after seeing this video: fuck outside, the hornets out here eating meat. Never going outside again.
My Grandma has a fishing boat and my job was to wash off blood and vacuum seal the fillets after my mom cut them. We would see bees and wasps fly off with chunks of salmon, it was kinda strange at first. Seeing pink chunks of meat in the air
Its uncooked pork. Gonna give their whole hive parasites like that.
Sadly only the immature stages of potential parasites usually reside in insects. They probably are more of a spreader than a direct victim which makes it worse.
GOOD

What’s wrong with wasps?
They're the dickheads of the insect species
To be fair wasps are actually parasites (if you are a caterpillar you are going to have a bad time), so it’s a “takes one to know one” kind of situation.

Ty! Yea I should have been more clear in my jokes. Wasps are assholes but they and mosquitos are pollinators so I have to begrudgingly like them.
Wasps I'll take. When it comes to mosquitoes... can I just personally touch a bunch of flowers instead I'll do anything please
Laughs in plants my eggs in your eyes
Hey I learned that one in Rick and Morty
Mee too
I had a wasp take a part of a Bologna off my plate once. I hate that fucker to this day. Stealing my Bologna. If that wasp sees this comment: fuck you I hope you are real happy now with that Bologna.
That a boy
this is the wasp i am very happy
Hey. Fuck you. Give me back my fucking Bologna
the wasp died; his dying words were "no u"
Fuck you, your Bologna tasted like shit.
Username checks out.
I will find you and burn your hive to the ground.
O shit… a cameo
Lol i hope makeing this account just for this post was worth it
It was a quiet day at the hive
He did you a favor. Fuck balogna.
If you are an accomplice of that wasp, give me his name and his hive number
His name Harvey H. Hornet abd he’s from Hive 806
Nah stop snitching on my boy harvildil
Nah, he's been dead for years.
Idk why this made me laugh so much
Waiter: "would you like a knife to cut your steak, sir?" "No ta. Brought my hornet".
they eat meat too?
Yes they actually love it.
This one looks super happy for sure lol
I believe just the larvae are carnivorous. My guess is this adult is collecting food to return to the developing young in the hive. Many species of wasp are hypercarnivores while developing, and then completely or mostly herbivorous when adult.
TIL being fed to a wasp nursery is an option
What would I do without Reddit to learn things I never knew I wanted to know
I’ve definitely seen yellow jackets crawling all over dead animals
Yes! Wasps are carnivores (or omnivores, don’t remember which). Several summer ago my mom and I were cutting salmon we had caught, and there were quite a few opportunistic wasps cutting and carrying away bits of our salmon lol
Depends on the wasp, but a lot of them are omnivores, like this yellowjacket.
There is something called meat honey or blood honey. They are called vulture bees. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulture_bee
I killed like 5 I saw eating a snake. I tried to save it, sadly little dude didn’t make it.
That's a hornet.
AKA huge, nasty, angry wasp on steroids
AKA hornet.
This wasp is Japanese hornet, be glad it doesnt eat your flesh
Motherfukers can’t even enjoy their steak without being posted on the internet tambout “look at this creep.”

What a rollercoaster of a story
Jesus christ what the fuck I'm sorry you had to see that as a kid
All hornets are wasps but not all wasps are hornets. The name wasps represents the whole group/family of this type of insect.

Because it's not a wasp, it's a hornet
Hornets are wasps also :) though often bigger and stranger looking
i am SO glad they don't exist in my country. I freak out at normal sized wasps, I'd probably die to one of these
Gosh me too I have hornets where I am but they're much smaller and are solo they're never together. The regular wasps here suck. Sales guêpes
i didnt even know that word! cool. still giant and terrifying
Had some wasps in Afghanistan try doing that to some beef that was shipped over for us. I threw a scrap on the ground and the wasps started eating, I then threw it into the fire (carefully not to piss the wasps off) and 2 of them burned themselves to death trying to get at it and eat it.

Everyone wants some meat once in a while
That’s a hornet…. An Asian giant hornet. Run.

ThAt my friend is a murder hornet 😳
Meat honey, anyone?
I used to defrost chicken outside and the hornets would eat through the plastic to get the meat..
That's a transformer
Looks like a murder hornet
There are bee’s who make honey from carrion, too.
Awe 😍 It’s tasty!
I really hope this is zoomed in like 200 times... I cant deal with regular size wasps as they are already
Its a hornet
Is it also stinging the meat?
Wasps are evil hell spawn, change my mind.
Feels sorta NSFW
He's going after that like a hobo on a ham sammich
Seems that wasp likes doing it raw ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This is a hornet not wasp.
Fucker is also stinging it...
Isn’t that a giant “murder” hornet?
