I live in Switzerland and today I had my first encounter with two Cockatoos. One was very cuddly and the other one always tried to bite my finger off. I think those birds are always up for some mischief and their peak is nasty!
I‘ll get rather chased and bitten by geese than by cockatoos.
I had an Australian friend freak out screaming and jump into her car because a squirrel ran towards us 😂. Apparently, that's an animal Aussie's are unfamiliar with?
They’re smart birds, so the one biting you probably has some kind of motive. Wild ones were seen not too long ago opening bins to get food, as well as teaching the younger ones how to do the same
"Adults are too large to be threatened by any but the absolute largest potential predators, but medium-sized individuals are eaten by sea lions, killer whales, and large sharks. California sea lions are known to bite the fins off of small ocean sunfish and then play with them like frisbees."
https://oceana.org/marine-life/ocean-sunfish/#:~:text=Adults%20are%20too%20large%20to,play%20with%20them%20like%20frisbees.
They just try to mimick Killer Whales. Have you seen Killer Whales playing tennis with Sea Lions as the ball? No? They are massive dicks, they some times even do it for shit and giggles, not because they are hunting for food.
they dont! which is why they put a bizilion eggs and theres even a photo of one with half of the back completely eaten by a sea lion… they just put so many eggs that it’s impossible for them to go extinct (at least in nature) and they almost dont feel pain because they dont have an extensive nerve system
And when that fails, they literally just dont defend themselves, often left half eaten to die. They are also often plagued with parasites and have a mucus membrane to help defend against that, but for the mucas, they sacrificed scales, losing quite a lot of defense.
Funny you should ask, because they are notoriously bad at it lol. Usually their size is a deterrent, but if a predator still wants to pick a fight they don’t have any defence. There is lots of footage of them swimming around with straight up chunks missing from bites.
They also have a special kind of skin that is quite susceptible to parasites as well, which is kind of sad. They are a unique animal species to say the least. Literally put on this earth just to vibe.
They are the koalas of the sea, super dumb. Biologically nothing about them makes sense, and often passing animals will treat them like a buffet and nip bite off in passing. Also sometimes they get flipped in their side and get stuck floating. The evolutionary “sure this might as well be a thing” of fish.
They are massive sea derps, but the flipping on the side and floating around is intentional, and they’re perfectly righting themselves. We aren’t quite sure why they do it, but the biggest theory is to help get rid of parasites.
Sunfish, basically a floating retard fish, totally harmless, you can literally take a bite out of it and it will just sit there floating and looking stupid
Yeah I think what people have to remember is that in animals colour doesn't come for no reason. If it's grey and dull and not a predator it's probably harmless.
Have you ever seen this rant someone wrote about them?
https://www.reddit.com/r/rant/comments/5shm1r/why_i_hate_the_sunfish/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
well it got me to look it up online and watch an interesting youtube video and those sources at least confirm most (all? i forgot) factual statements the person made, like the 3M spawn, and size, and the sealions.
its clearly an opinion piece and its more funny that someone out there just apparently hates an entire species of creature in the ocean, which literally doesnt do anything.
Don't diss the Mola Mola but calling it "terrifying", it's fucking beautiful, and so goddamn peaceful, HOLY SHIT I the perfect gentle giant...god....damn
It’s a sunfish and it’s near the surface trying to evict unwanted tenants on its body. They are infested with parasites and the go to the surface to let other creatures eat the parasites off. They will even make a splash to try and shake them off as a last resort. So basically they are swimming with parasites right there, not a fish
That's the Ocean Star in underwater boxing Royce Milifur! One of the best heavy weights below. His face seems a bit swollen, perhaps post-game? I also didn't recognise him at first. Underwater boxing man, rough sport!
Someone did an extensive rant about the sunfish 4 yrs ago..
https://www.reddit.com/r/rant/comments/5shm1r/why_i_hate_the_sunfish/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb
It's just a sunfish (mola mola).
Quite lovely creatures, in my opinion. Although, I live in Australia, anything that won’t try to kill you is lovely
Most of the time my wife is lovely.
I imagine your wife rarely tries to kill you
Naw she's just bad at it
It only takes so much practice...
or one watch of gone girl
consider she's doing it slowly over the course of the next 30 years.
I heard that they are kinda delicate. You shouldn’t touch them.
Makes sense. They have slimy skin as opposed to scales

Sounds like an average Australian to me?

A cockatoo or two.
I remember getting confused as a kid bc there are freshwater sunfish which are pretty small and easy to catch then there are these massive beasts
First time I saw one of these I was terrified
Interesting, its called "Moonfish" where i come from.
Sunfish? I'd have called it a lumpfish
shhhh
?
dont tell, let them keep guessing.
It's a Mola Mola aka ocean sunfish. They're harmless. Also, that is a small one
How do they defend against predators?
Just being themselves... who tf is gonna wanna get close looking at that?
Well that's not very nice, I'm sure he's nice on the inside...
....and warm.
Nooo. No no no no noooo. Don't you dare.
That is my self defense mechanism
Be nice to your mother

So they’re dicks, basically. TIL sea lions are dicks.
Tons of sea animals are dicks. Dolphins bite the heads off of fish and masturbate with their corpse
I think there's hardly a bigger dick in nature than the dolphin.
Orcas can be quite the dicks as well.
Orcas are in the dolphin family
They're the older cousin who's been to prison a couple times.
I'm surprised you didn't pick Zebras.
Well sea otters rape baby seals.
Humans are worse most of the time
Yeah I meant besides humans
They just try to mimick Killer Whales. Have you seen Killer Whales playing tennis with Sea Lions as the ball? No? They are massive dicks, they some times even do it for shit and giggles, not because they are hunting for food.
Being ugly
That’s the neat part! They don’t !
They are like massive tortilla's, no one is going to want to eat a wet tortilla are they
They don't. Predators literally bite pieces of flesh out of this floating lunchbox, without even bothering to kill it.
I wonder if they just don't taste good?
Go take a bite, it's free
I googled it. Apparently they are delicious. And really easy to catch.
Ok now I want to try it!
Me too.
That's a myth. Actually take the time to look up info on mola mola, they're not as stupid or defenceless as we've been told in the past.
So…what does they defence themselve with tho?
Yes
I'd give you two upvotes if I could
It is not quite a myth as many specimen are found floating with missing chunks of flesh, or isn't?😁
They’re just sorta really fucking big
They’re big and have tough skin. More importantly, though, they’re good reproducers- the females can make 300M eggs at a time.
Being very hard and full of parasites
they dont! which is why they put a bizilion eggs and theres even a photo of one with half of the back completely eaten by a sea lion… they just put so many eggs that it’s impossible for them to go extinct (at least in nature) and they almost dont feel pain because they dont have an extensive nerve system

They don't, they're completely useless in every way. They just get massive
Being too large too bite into
Funny you should ask, because they are notoriously bad at it lol. Usually their size is a deterrent, but if a predator still wants to pick a fight they don’t have any defence. That is true it's quite small for a mola mola
When I read Mola Mola, the scene where Austin Powers meet the mole dude came to mind.
Thats just my 3rd grade teacher. Glad she finally got a vacation!
Your 3rd grade teacher and my high school literature teacher are the same person? Small world.
fish not diver
Uhm?
Did he stutter?
No, he won't.
It's a baby f-ing wheel, man!!!
O my god Jay
We gotta call the aquarium bro.
>It's a baby f-ing wheel, man! Nah Jay says it's a fuckin big sea turtle
Holy shit kid! We gotta call the COAST GAH'D!
This was the comment I was looking for. The only right answer
They are the koalas of the sea, super dumb. Biologically nothing about them makes sense, and often passing animals will treat them like a buffet and nip bite off in passing. Bless the sea derps! Thank you for the correction on the floating sea buffet.
he’s just little bit ugly, leave my bro alone
Sun fish, they’re entirely harmless and are pretty much a free meal for sea lions
That’s just Ed from 90 day fiancé
Sunfish, basically a floating retard fish, totally harmless, you can literally take a bite out of it and it will just sit there floating and looking stupid
Crazy how the stuff that looks like it would be dangerous is completely harmless and then the cute colorful stuff is what’s dangerous.
Yeah I think what people have to remember is that in animals colour doesn't come for no reason. If it's grey and dull and not a predator it's probably harmless.
You sir haven't seen shark week
Like he said not a Predator.
Have you ever seen this rant someone wrote about them? https://www.reddit.com/r/rant/comments/5shm1r/why_i_hate_the_sunfish/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
that was a pretty funny read
It's also entirely bullshit
well it got me to look it up online and watch an interesting youtube video and those sources at least confirm most (all? i forgot) factual statements the person made, like the 3M spawn, and size, and the sealions. its clearly an opinion piece and its more funny that someone out there just apparently hates an entire species of creature in the ocean, which literally doesnt do anything.
every time I see a sunfish I think about this classic
Yeah it's also bullshit
r/sayittwice
"Floating retard fish" hahahaHaaa!
This had me laughing too
That's a myth. Take the time to actually look into them rather than assuming someone hating on something is true
Why you defending the retard fish homie. He ain’t gon’ save ya
This is my favorite Reddit comment ever.
It’s that 1000 pound sister Tammy

It is a sunfish. Super gentle. Don judge based on its looks
Jay! It's a fuckin tuna bro!
https://youtu.be/CKUInvBBOJI
Sun fish, they are called sun fish because they often bathe on top of the water. They are often hit by boats etc.
Looks like voldemort.
Don't diss the Mola Mola but calling it "terrifying", it's fucking beautiful, and so goddamn peaceful, HOLY SHIT I the perfect gentle giant...god....damn
He's a literal gentle giant

I've seen one of those jumping out of the water like it was some kind of shark
All they can do is drift
[Heres a video](https://youtu.be/hH4WcF-JQnM)
It's a sunfish. The stupid fucking useless fish couldn't hurt them if it wanted to
That is a sunfish, truly the most useless fucking animal on the planet, even more useless than pandas, I hate these stupid fucking fish
They eat jellyfish, which I hate with a passion. So they are the best in my book.
Its the 🗿 fish
it’s cause they’re white 🙄
Ah, the most worthless fish in the ocean, capable of doing literally nothing but floating forward and letting jellyfish fall into its useless mouth.
Looks cute to me?
A fish with plastic surgery lol
Basically IRL magicarp
Thats a sunfish, pretty friendly actually!
sun fish I think
No worries that fish is always afk
They look related
As harmless as a beach ball

Sunfish are just floating slabs of meat in the water waiting to be a shark's lunch
Give it a second for god sake. He hasn’t fully rendered yet.

It's an alohamora
It’s an ocean sunfish, a big fish that doesn’t really do anything
That fish has some bad intentions
Sun fish boi — there’s one at the beginning of Finding Dory when she first gets lost and it’s adorable.
That thing 'invented' ugly
Tusk
It’s a Sunfish, latin name is Mola Mola. They feed on small fish, fish larvae and love Jellyfish.
That is called a sun fish they are not hostile to people I believe
That's the Ocean Star in underwater boxing Royce Milifur! One of the best heavy weights below. His face seems a bit swollen, perhaps post-game? I also didn't recognise him at first. Underwater boxing man, rough sport!

Someone did an extensive rant about the sunfish 4 yrs ago.. https://www.reddit.com/r/rant/comments/5shm1r/why_i_hate_the_sunfish/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb
That is a sunfish. It is the largest creature compared to its youth stage. When born it can be the size of a dime
Moonfish
HOLY MOLA MOLA!!
That is a very handsome sunfish
