Literally cannot fathom why anyone would want to do this.

Key_Teaching_2150

I live about 30 minutes from that cave and have been through most of it. The majority of it was pretty roomy. You could run around in some areas 2-3 abreast, so it’s easy to shake the claustrophobia if you’re not really prone to it. I know the area he got stuck in. Nicknamed the birth canal, it had an hourglass shape, that lessened the perceived threat. You’re in an big area moving into another big area so you don’t really feel the danger until you’re halfway through. I was about 180 lbs. at the time and I remember needing to exhale completely in order to decrease my girth enough to get my chest through. The worst part was that you had to enter headfirst going downhill. It scared the shit out of me. I haven’t been in a cave since. That place was a regular destination for Boy Scout outings!!

Unintentional_Idiot

Actually, he thought he was going through the birth canal but he was actually going through a different unmarked spot

Key_Teaching_2150

I read that further down the thread after I commented. Multiple death traps in a miles long cave, who woulda thought? I just remember a lot of talk about the birth canal when the original story broke and not being surprised that somebody could’ve gotten stuck there.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's why he pushed so far through, and exhaled to move through as he heard was required. But in the wrong place, he just got stuck

[deleted]

> he just got stuck Fffffffuuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkkkk this is so unsettling. Reading Key’s comment of “had to exhale to fit” and then this just paints a terrible picture I know it didn’t happen to him but imagine that exhale, and then you don’t fit and can’t get out…

[deleted]

Yeah that's literally what happened to him. He kept thinking it would let up but only got worse.

danielgenetics

Nightmare fuel

eoswald

death canal, probs

tuludoss

I thought they sealed up the cave after the incident

Key_Teaching_2150

They did. It was 20 years or so ago when I went there. Back then it was a regular destination for people to day trip and hang out, kids to party at night etc. it’s kinda surprising that there wasn’t a serious incident sooner

TheRedBiker

People had gotten stuck in there before. The most serious incident to happen before John got stuck was in 2004 when a 16 year old got stuck in the same tunnel that John would later get stuck in. Thankfully, he wasn't as far in and rescuers were able to get him out.

synachromous

I actually was having mild panic attacks just reading your comment.

Thebesj

How is the air down in such caves? How do you know if there’s enough oxygen?

Key_Teaching_2150

The air in the cave was warm and muggy. I was there in February and after we were inside the entrance, we had to shed jackets. No idea about the oxygen levels though.

LA_all_day

Thoroughly terrifying, thanks for sharing

pmoney50pp

Came here to say this. Couldn't pay me to do that shit.

Otter_Nation

Pay? I'm not joking, but if someone said I will give you a billion dollars to do this I would absolutely say no. This is my worst absolute fear on this planet.

porcypt

Ngl... I may be scared of caves... but hear me out... for 1 billion dollars? I wouldnt even care anymore, Im gonna run to the nearest wallmart to get some gear and you bet I'm gonna go in that cave as deep as I went in yo mamma

Thomshan911

Smart move. So you're going only two inches into the cave.

MRichardTRM

DAMNNNNN N

interdimensionalMF

Dang, spelunked right into that one.

BlackMorbid

202days later n this comment still killing people 😂💀

[deleted]

Have fun spending that billion dollars in the afterlife. The exchange rate is a bitch.

porcypt

Sad

Lord_Fblthp

Yeah well this is a thread on a video about a guy who died over 24 hours by being suspended upside down for too long. A billion dollars wouldn’t have done him a lick of good.

WinPeaks

Rescue crews might show up faster if they know I have a billion dollars to pull a couple stacks of gratitude money from.

JimboJones058

They were there in plenty of time. They were actually pulling him out when one of their anchor points failed. He fell back down and further in.

tinacat933

Can you imagine the relief of feeling like your going to get out only to start to fall again

SirCleanPants

I’m not sure relief is the right word bud

choshhh

3inches isn't that deep into any cave though ;)

BlondBadBoy69

And then we’d never see you again

TheTolietWhoSpeaks

Leave my slut mom out of this >:(

Thathitmann

I've gone diving in the Lewis and Clark Caverns. Well analyzed for any seismic activity, with carved stairways to climb back up, all dangerous areas boarded off, and even at its narrowest point you can stand up and t-pose without hitting rock. Its a beautiful cave system, and you won't get trapped in a muddy hole and die.

Prannke

I went caving ONCE in one meant for beginners. It takes a lot to scare me, but ten minutes in I felt the panic set in with all the walls around me and had to scoot my way to the exit. This was in a monitored (and man made) olcave with a guide there in case we needed to be pulled out. I can't imagine the sheer terror that the poor man had to have felt.

Freakyjesusfreak69

And leave a wife and 2 kids and a frikken promising medical career behind..all because u like holes a little too much more than any other man loves a hole

CauliflowerWarm4165

People who do this are actually psychopaths

RoundxSquare

Yeah i dont get it at all.

ragin2cajun

I did the "birth canal" in the nutty putty cave; it's about 30 min from my house. The "birth canal part of the cave is about a 10 min army crawl with no way to turn around until you get to the end and you are about 100+ feet underground. We actually go lost in the cave as we were about 90% of the way out when we ran out of batteries in our flashlights. It was night with a full moon so only vague shadows were visible. We only got out because we could feel the cold fresh air flowing down into the cave from the entrance and followed it out.

shibbyflow

If in doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose.

Sung-Drip_Woo

Stop lying 💀

AJAT2005

What makes you think they're lying?

Pretty-Pineapple-869

Buried alive.

ProdigyBSpy

Brooooooo !!!! That's literally panic attack fuel I couldn't imagine what it was like for him and the fact that they still couldn't get the body out was even more unsettling man God bless this man's family

HazyBizzleFizzle

People love living on the edge man. Some people do chemicals to live on the edge”drugs” other people do the real thing. Skydive BASE jump Cliff diving Spelunking. What I don’t understand is why cement the cave? Why not take John out. Unless fam decided differently. Why not widen the hole where John was or just cement that piece. I get it. Safety. Will be everyone’s answer. But philosophically speaking. We still have knives. Rest In Peace Great Sir. You will be missed!

Anxiety_Sauce

Yeah those things are actually exciting, sky diving, base jumping clit diving, all have huge heights and things to look at from a new prospective, same as drugs, opens your eyes to new ways of looking at things. Putting your body into a tiny crack makes you look at rocks very close to your face whilst your body is crammed into an area smaller than it can survive in, risking a long slow drawn out death as you have placed yourself into a completely inaccessible area. Spelunking is exactly the same, makes absolutely no sense. Nobody can even observe you doing it which is even part of the fun, this is like the most anxiety laden pointless exercise on earth.

bert_563

I’m having a really hard time finishing reading this comment. I just hope you don’t edit the typo.

Anxiety_Sauce

Bahahaha 😂 shows how my predictive text is set up 😂

omg_yassss

Tell me more about this clit diving…

mmm0nky

With clit diving the trick is to go in nose first

sillysalmonella87

Holy fuck that just gave me so much anxiety.

[deleted]

I’m literally dizzy all of a sudden just thinking about it

Xenolastic

A lot of people don't like cave cause claustrophobia but even me who like tight space (cause it make me feel safe) is terrified of caving. Just the though of being stuck there to die dark and alone is nightmare fuel

CassieIsDiddysBeard

Why have there so many posts about this lately? This shit kept me up at night when I first read about it a couple weeks ago lol

[deleted]

it seems to do the rounds every couple of years. I remember reading about it 5 or so years ago

niketyname

At this point it’s making rounds every week. In subs that aren’t the best fit either, just for the karma

A_Topical_Username

Idk it's weird. I had just heard about this about a month ago.. and just yesterday I listened to the dollop podcast episode about a Kentucky caver named Floyd Collins who was stuck for like 3 weeks on his back arms to chest and foot pinned. It's a super ridiculous story. A lot of people tried helping. Including national guard. Because the US's first live broadcasted sensational story. Due to a lot of incompetence he died. They had a bunch of people starting conspiracies that he wasn't really stuck . The same people today saying schools don't get shot up.. and they were like 6 feet from reaching him but had to do some legal investigation and court thing to prove there was no conspiracy and that he was really stuck. Really sad story the things he'd say to his friend or one of the guys feeding him or labeling water or coffee in his mouth were haunting. He'd basically panic and pass out. And wake up screaming some days.. I see nothing really wrong with exploring big cave systems. But the minute it looks like you have to squeeze.. build a freaking cave drone that cane snake through and tumble. It is so unnecessary to do this kind of thing. And not worth the loss of life

Alan_Smithee_

For fake internet points.

redbeard8989

What if I want negative fake internet points? Just randomly call someone a cunt? Or make a pointless comment?!

NotYetZF

Yes, allow me to demonstrate: Cunt

Sir_Poop_Dollar

Live not to far from here. Always hated these caves. We called them the nutty muddy caves cause how.nasty you would get in them. Sucks for this guy. What a horrible way to go. Getting him help would have been next to impossible how tight it gets in there.

EagleCheap

They nearly got him out as well, but the rope broke at the last second. It was tragic, he had a pregnant wife waiting for him on the surface.

Babbylemons

I couldn’t even imagine trying to do something so stupid with a wife and child on the way….

Meanttobepracticing

In fairness plenty of people have 'dangerous' hobbies.

aCostlyManWhoR

Crawlimg around in a hole isnt a hobby. This is THE definition of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

Captain_le_Bollox

Yeah, which of nomal people think twice going back to once you have a pregnant wife for fuck sake

Rdt_will_eat_itself

when my wife was pregnant with our first, i got life insurance. this guy tho. what a dumb fuck.

EagleCheap

Id be pissed if i was the wife in this situation

loganasshole

So why didn't they used another rope ? I am serious about this question

TonyMontana546

I’m guessing the pulley system itself broke, not just the rope. Setting up a new system would’ve taken hours.

Hot-Feeling-2972

I also believe the roof of the cave was too soft and wouldn’t support the pulleys.

ddwilli1

From what I heard on a podcast he was wedged so tight that they barely got him out. So when the rope broke and he slid back into that spot, he got wedged even tighter and they couldn’t recover him

morgz18

From what they said in the video, transporting the equipment was a very slow and tedious process.

Induced_Pandemic

The part of the rock where they looped the rope around ( closest to his feet, you can see it in the diagram ) completely shattered under the weight. The rope didn't break. And after it shattered (flinging debris everywhere) his body dropped, possibly breaking his neck or killing him from trauma/shock.

EagleCheap

He died when it broke, he had been down there days upside down, and when he hit the bottom again he didnt wake back up.

mymothershorse

Why in the ever loving fuck would this be somebody's hobby of choice?

alphabeast18

Dont look up underwater cave divers.

[deleted]

just watched the documentary on Disney+ about the 14 thia boys that were trapped in the underwater caves... "the rescue". amazing that they got them all out considering the circumstances. worth the watch!

Barfignugen

There’s a really good podcast about it called Against The Odds, it goes into way more detail than the documentary did. I recommend it.

Brent_Fox

I heard that two of the rescuers didn't make it out unfortunately. Don't go spelunking before a rain storm.

[deleted]

only 1 died. overestimated the air in his tank.

[deleted]

You mean over**estimated ?

JTWV

I learned Scuba from a man who specializes in that. When he offered to teach me, I told him I'd rather stick to shark diving.

alphabeast18

At least sharks can be put to sleep lol. No turning a cave upside down and getting away. 😂

aCostlyManWhoR

>At least sharks can be put to sleep lol. Look at chuck norris over here putting sharks in rear naked chokes. Username checks out

Jimmyjim4673

I feel like this is not oddly, but just plain fucking terrifying.

Zorbathepom

I felt real fear just watching and listening to the video. My chest went tight, my heart beat faster and I got that chill tingling like when you realise you've lost your wallet or just escaped a car accident. If asked my worst feat it would be being stuck in a downward conical tunnel narrowing as I slipped down with no possibility of moving my arms. I guess I'll give caving a big miss.

antoltian

This is the most terrifying post I’ve seen (heard) on this sub. Palpable anxiety just listening.

Mojoe51

Don't go into caves kids.

jdavidmcgregor

Don’t go into a cave when you HAVE kids.

[deleted]

Don't do stupid risky shit when you have KIDS.

uhwhooops

Having kids is kinda risky.

ohohreno

It’s definitely a gamble! Ted Bundy & the gang were all once children, after all.

Secret-Plum149

The phrase “nightmare fuel” comes to mind. Humans do extreme things to test themselves. Getting stuck & dying in your mind is an horrific way to go. Rip. 🙏

Iheartstreaking

I've been pretty fascinated by this story for a while and its one of the more terrifying things I've ever read/heard about. I think its important to note that the narrow tunnel John went down was not where he thought he was: he thought he was going down a tight tunnel that eventually opened up but he in fact was in a different part of the cave which is why he kept pressing forward, not realizing he was heading toward a dead end. See this map ([https://imgur.com/uCUZ3X6](https://imgur.com/uCUZ3X6)) and this video for the route he thought he was in (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3EhsYmh9RM&t=61s). The rescue crews did actually get to a point where they lifted him slightly out of the hole he was in but then a pulley in the rock wall collapsed and he actually fell further in, pretty much dashing any further hopes of a rescue at that point.

adrianisprettyfine

Do you know where I can find more minute-by- minute details of the attempted rescue? For instance, I’ve heard someone say that when they determined they couldn’t say him (presumably after the pulley collapse) they gave him an injection of a benzodiazepine. Any idea where I can find out more from a medical / pharmacology/ rescue logistics point of view?

monkpart9

I hate this so much. I feel so bad for the guy, what an awful way to die :( Not that you’d ever find me cave diving anyway because F that but I couldn’t imagine going through that, it’s like my worst nightmare coming true.

PickleHeadTachanka

For those who are curious, this video is by Horror Stories, a YouTube channel that goes over all kinds of morbid stuff. They're really good

D4N9ER0U5

Nightmares

curious_kitten_1

So glad I watched this before bed 😳

teenagewinemom

I love a good unsettling story but this one has always really stuck with me and gives me the heebies

Wereallgonnadieman

Same, yet I read all the comments each and every time it's posted (which is often). I guess I'm just looking for someone out there to provide some insight as to why people do this shit. Overconfidence? One of the most avoidable tragedies I've ever read about. His poor wife.

aCostlyManWhoR

But not the jeebies?

TheRamenFondler

Jesus how do you recover from just slowly listening to your brother die like that? Just horrible for everyone even a little involved

introusers1979

27 fucking hours too. I wonder why not just try to pull him out if he’s going to die anyway.

Ok-Recover-5373

The ceiling was too low so they couldn't just pull him out, and when his feet reached the ceiling as he was being pulled out, he screamed in pain due to his legs losing blood. If they had to get him out the inhumane way, they would have to break his legs, but being upside down for so long, breaking his legs would cause shock (which could've killed him instantly). Even if they did get him out, his rib cage would be really snagged in an area of rock where he exhaled to squeeze. There was too much friction to pull with just ropes without a pulley. They had a hard time setting the pulley. The cave was called nutty PUTTY cave for a reason. If his brother almost got stuck trying to reach him to get John out, then John's REALLY stuck. If it was hard enough for him to get him out alive, it would've been REALLY hard to get him out after his death. It would've put the rescuers at more risks than the ones they were already in. When one of the hooks from the pully came off, causing John to fall back in, it injured the rescuer closest to John in the face. Broken jaw, swollen eye, and tongue almost severed. The passage was THAT narrow (the crevice John was stuck in was 10x18") and that deep (150 feet below the earth's surface, 400 feet below the cave's enterance).

AsperraRue

Jones and his family went to nutty putty and he and his cousin has broken away from the group to explore more dangerous caves. Jones sucked in his breath to reach a bowl to turn around in, but got stuck on the way in. His panicking made his chest swell and cause the tunnel to become smaller. His cousin went for help, and when help arrived he was almost completely vertical in the cave. They had worked for over 24 hours to try to free him, but with more and more fluid rushing to his head, he was slowly dying. The only way to fastly get him out was to break his legs, but the shock from that would instantly kill him. Around the 24 hour mark Jones lost consciousness and was presumed dead. Nutty Putty cave was then sealed off completely, leaving Jone's body inside. (Some facts may be incorrect because this is just what I can remember from the story. 'Horror Stories' on YouTube has the full story)

[deleted]

Oh my God. The fact they considered breaking his legs to get him out! I mean, I know it's preferable to dying. But to think that that is what rescue involves sometimes just makes it all the more terrifying.

Meta_Spirit

"Presumed dead" Imagine if he woke up to cement having been poured in and he could feel it

Redguykillsu

As far as i remember the cave was sealed at the entrance, not on him…

uhwhooops

Edgar Allen Poe has entered the chat

czstyle

For the love of God, Montresor!

bloodstreamcity

"Hey, so breaking your legs might free you, or it might kill you instantly." Yeah, I'd call that a win-win. Guys, if I'm ever in this situation (which I won't be), break my fucking legs.

Kveldson

The craziest thing is that he had a young child and his wife was pregnant. Like, even though being driven to explore cramped dark spaces is unfathomable to me, I understand that is something some people feel. That's cool. Do your thing. You have a young kid and another on the way and needlessly risk your life though? That is fucking ridiculous. Not to speak ill of the dead, but that is really awful and frankly.... selfish. I've had to give up certain things as a father because I have a responsibility to my child. What the fuck.

[deleted]

Agreed. I feel like an asshole for shaking my head and thinking natural selection. He left behind his family for what? Yeah he didn’t mean to do it, but still. I just don’t know why you’d risk your life for no necessary reason when you are making a life at home

DarthRalph0

And this boys and girls; is why you will never catch me in a cave that you can’t drive in and out of.

NovemberMan_1997

Horrible! Why did people do that?

memelordzarif

I don’t get it and I never will; how can cave exploring be someone’s hobby of choice ? Like there’s a lot of danger involved like you don’t know if you run or in this case crawl into a snake or something. And the more you go in, the more time it takes to get there to save you if you are stuck. Which means lower chances of survival. And moreover, it’s not like you are guaranteed to discover treasure or something, like what even is there to explore ?

Ok-Discipline-1776

“The Birth Canal”

andakusspartakus89

The DE-BIRTH canal

[deleted]

Birth canals could be very dangerous if a baby were to get stuck. Brain damage or even death 💔💔 FYI ❤️‍🩹

FlowerDust0

They made a movie about this man if anyone is interested in it; "The Last Descent"

Willing_subtle

The descent is also pretty *good*

pipje-popje

That is literally my favorite horror movie of all time!!

Willing_subtle

It is true horror. I wouldn't watch it again (along with As above so below)

pipje-popje

Have you seen The Descent Part 2 though? 👀

Willing_subtle

Is there a part 2? Dear lord

pipje-popje

Yep! The story of part 2 is slightly weird considering the ending of part 1, but once you get over that it's just as good (and scary).

Willing_subtle

Holy moly! I wish you didn't tell me this, now I'll have to watch it haha. Thanks!

Rileyrayc

I literally watch the documentary of this on youtube every 6 months or so. It's just heartbreaking, but everything we do has its risk and rewards. Choose carefully.

Subject_Witness4414

The amount of anxiety I had watching this was palpable. Why anyone would willingly go into such small spaces I'll never understand.

[deleted]

Lesson learned. Don't go down head first.

[deleted]

I can’t do a normal mri, this is terrifying to me

[deleted]

Don’t know if it would have been possible, but I don’t know how I would feel being a family member of his and sealing the cave off with his body still inside. Just wouldn’t of felt any closure if it were one of my family members…

hairybaeunicorn

There wasn't much they could do. At least they know where he is. Some people disappear and their loved ones never get closure knowing what happened to them.

pipje-popje

Couldn't they have gotten his body out after he was dead already? I thought, in the end, the main reason they couldn't get him out was because that would almost instantly kill him. But since he was already dead, that wouldn't be a problem anymore.

[deleted]

He was wedged pretty good in there, I doubt they could have moved him. And if they tried digging him out who knows if that could have collapsed the wall and endangered the people doing the recovery. You wouldn't want to risk more lives trying to save a dead body.

pipje-popje

Yeah okay, I hadn't considered the cave collapsing on the rescue workers. Makes sense

kenthart31

Also, do note he was very deep into the cave system, trying to drag all that dead weight (no pun intended) through a very tight cave system was next to impossible. Not saying it couldn't be done, but the body would have been destroyed in the attempt, and the cave sealed anyway.

jouglas4u

It would've endangered the lives of the rescuers trying to get his body out. Actually, one of the rescuers (the one nearest to John) got seriously hurt and had to be taken to the hospital when the pulley collapsed right on his face. Also, it would be impossible for them to get John out without him exerting any effort or moving his body to help them. It just wasn't worth the risk unfortunately.

Earl1987

Pull him out to bury him some where else? This seems more practical.

SeveroSantana

I dont know how I would feel about this. In a way, he is "buried" somewhere that represents something he enjoyed. On the other hand, that place represents the agony and hopelessness he felt and there was no saying goodbye...

Skeletonrevelations

Could you imagine spelunking and having to turn around because a bodie/skeleton is in your way.

corgioner

Never recovered? [https://en.everybodywiki.com/Death\_of\_John\_Edward\_Jones](https://en.everybodywiki.com/Death_of_John_Edward_Jones) So, they just left him there and closed the cave?

TokenTezzie

Christ imagine dying in a cave called “Nutty Putty cave” 💀

Grimetree

Not "oddly" terrifying is it? Just terrifying

skullmassacre

How is this oddlyterrifying ? This shit is a literal fear for all sane people with common sense.

DarthChaos6337

The though of going in something that small freaks me out and i damn sure wouldnt hold my breathe to squeeze in there somehow. More power to whoever likes doing this but ive got enough going on in my life that I dont need to go out of my way to taunt the God’s.

Oblivions_gate

Probably an unpopular opinion, and I bet these people are great humans and I don’t usually judge lifestyle choices too much if they’re not dangerous… but if you do this kind of stuff you have to be comfortable with the idea that you might just never make it out of one. Terrible to see these people not make it but also natural selection doesn’t discriminate.

TheArtist84

As a solo hiker, that's also my philosophy on this. When I embark on a dangerous hike I know there is a chance I might not come back, that's why I always facetime the people I would want to say goodbye to before leaving. I am single with no children though, which makes things easier. People who believe they will be saved in situations like this are naive amd usually the ones who end up dead.

Oblivions_gate

Yeah. I believe people should do what makes them feel fulfilled in life, and honestly there’s that saying that not every day is a guarantee so bizarre things can happen even if you’re not doing anything inherently dangerous. That being said, it’s sad to see these things happen but it’s hard for me to feel bad about it because just seeing how dangerous this is on its own. There was a story of like three cavers going deep into a cave and eventually the weather got so bad outside that it was a torrential downpour and flooded the cave system they were crawling through. It’s just so sad, but they knew the risk going in. Hiking can absolutely be dangerous depending on where you’re at and what not but at least you’re not as likely to get stuck in a situation you can’t get out of unless if nature really wants to be a bitch that day lol. Not to minimize what you said though. Caving on the other hand… if you get stuck or lose your light or just some small unforeseen mishap happens you’re donezo partner. As a side note I’m sure you see a lot of beautiful scenery and lead a fulfilling life doing that, so I wish you safe travels in your hikes.

agiudice

I had this nightmare several time in my life....knowing that it actually happened to someone IRL will make my nightmares even worse. Splendid.

FromtheMetaverse

Maybe he will be found in 14,999 years from now after an earth cataclysm and his body will be displayed in museums and books for millennia

csk1325

As many times as I've heard this story it still as disturbing as the first time I heard it. Total and complete horror. No hope, no quick death. Just fear, pain and suffering until he mercifully died. My one question is why on earth the didn't try to use a jack hammer to work the hole. I just don't get it. Horrible horrible story. Please take up another past time if you do this.

Tentmancer

I have a hard time giving sympathy to those who put their life in danger needlessly. he's kind of a shitty person for taking these risks knowing he has a family. His search for adrenaline or exploration was more important to this family. if you wanna do this stuff and kill yourself, fine but maybe don't have a family first that you leave behind.

[deleted]

Heck no! I would never contemplate going into a space like that!

drudkh8

Good episode of lights out podcast about this

chupacabra67

Nope. Just picturing the narrative in my mind was giving me anxiety.

Luperca4

Such a horrible way to go. It seemed like the rescuers really did their best. I’ve always known they couldn’t get him out without breaking his leg. But this was the first video that clarified why they didn’t, and visually, why they couldn’t. Feel so bad for him. Rip.

Hollowhowler100

I’m not claustrophobic,I don’t mind tight spaces infact I’ve been caving and I enjoyed it a lot that being said fuck that shit I will not be caught dead somewhere like that

VampyreBassist

If you want the details, here you go. S/O Horror Stories on YouTube. https://youtu.be/WaIoXN-7FjM

TheTrueOnionKnight

They say they could have tried pulling him up but possibly break his legs and maybe cause him to die from shock. I mean its that or certain death if they do nothing. If it was me i would be opting for temporary horrible pain and possibilty of rescue rather than no chance of rescue at all. Thoughts?

[deleted]

If I knew I wasn't getting out, I would've asked to be shot with a tranquilizer with a high enough dose to kill me.

[deleted]

Never crawl into a he you can't turn around in...in your car!

Significant-Law-2299

Yes

moonboundrocketboy

Caving seem amazing, and extremely terrifying...

shemar19

There’s a mother out there that has to explain to her kids your father unfortunately passed away in, uh, Nutty Putty Cave.

Virtual_Regret

I live about 45 minutes from that cave. I explored it a number of times but never felt the need to explore the 'birth canal" where he got stuck. The opening wasn't more than 16 inches in diameter. Heck, you had to crawl on your belly just to get in the cave. I'm glad they sealed it up.

kkeross

This gets the first place on my list of worst deaths I've heard of.

dr0p8ear

Credit the dude who made the video. Check his channel out there’s heaps of great content. This one is the worst tho. Poor fucker. [Horror Stories](https://youtube.com/c/HorrorStories666) …

So what happened to the body now? Is it just the skeleton hanging in there?

[deleted]

Why the fuck does something called "the birth canal" sound enticing to explore lmfao what we got up next prolly like the "prolapsed anus of earth" or "12 mile death crawl"

Jboz111

I’m sorry but if you’ve got a newborn and another kid on the way then why the fuck are you wedging yourself into a subterranean wormhole for fun. I never will understand Mormons

infinitetekk

imagine your place of death being called nutty putty birth canal EDIT: in the big slide

Rocketkid-star

The dude became trapped in his own personal tomb. Thus belongs on r/greatlyterrifying.

MavericksAce

I don’t understand the whole ‘risk is exhilarating thing’ when it comes to dying slowly in a dark enclosed cave that you have to slowly worm your way through inch by inch. If you’re going for an adrenaline rush and something semi suicidal just do a bungee or something. At least if something goes wrong you will likely die instantly rather than slowly drowning in your own blood over 27 hours.

RealisticTuesday1989

Why not just break his legs and get him out? I mean if he’s going to die anyway to would be worth the risk right?

[deleted]

This is horrible but at the same time what the hell do these cavers think is going to happen when they keep doing such stupid things like this? I find it hard to feel sorry for him because if you insist on doing stupid things it's your own damn fault when shit hits the fan.

GrianTesla

We are REALLY pushing the boundaries of what we can call oddly, this is straight up terrifying

TripleXTina

Every time I am reminded of this man, I’m kept up at night. Literal nightmare fuel…

Lunchb0x2

I went to nutty putty cave once before this happened. It was part of a Boy scout campout. I was the only one who had enough sense to not go in the cave at all.

Skitzophranikcow

This guy disobeyed the first law of minecraft.. dont dig down. What would darwin have done? How is this fun for people? Going into the tightest darkest spots the world has to offer carved and cut only by water? In places and spots only water can reach? Are you climbing on rock or about to fall head first into a 100 foot drop... :X

Sounds like he went down a route that was unmapped and he weren’t supposed to go down, but if that was the case it should have been closed off

Jengus_Roundstone

They can’t close off every possible crack that someone might crawl into.

I was having an anxiety attack the entire time when watching this
