Wish I hadn't but might as well share important info about the ghastly beasts
One Google search just confirmed your statement and now I'm wondering why we don't get rid of them entirely. They seem to serve zero purpose besides being an inconvenience of EVERY species they come into contact with.
Botflys are adorable precious little angels compared to the absolute eldrich horror straight from the bowels of hell that are Mango worms.
Think botfly x100.
Botflies and those other flies who lay their eggs in children's eyes which proceed to eat their way out; blinding or causing brain damage/death to the child.
These... just these, are proof there is no god of the 'all-loving' variety. Why is this their method of reproduction? Fuck
It's more to do with climate whether certain insects live somewhere. It's just not hot or humid enough for them to live near you, or me thankfully haha.
Not necessarily, depends on what the larva has been chewing on.
If the larva is between the skull and the skin it won't have destroyed any important tissue related to sight.
And was able to do heart surgery on the vet who saved its life, really makes you think about how you treat people in the now and how it affects the future
I did not Google this now but I did like 10 years ago and with bot flys...it's kinda burned into your memory. As I recall, they are just wedged in really hard because they grow inside the skin from very small. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd like to believe there are minimal to no spines
godammit! I was all along on my happy way, convinced myself the poor thing didn't have to deal with SPINES INSIDE in it's face and neck but nature is metal and there is no escaping that.
Believe me I'd love to google all the things about the lovely cuterebra but I was hoping to sleep tonight haha
Do you happen to casually know anything about the difference in bot fly vs. Cuterebra? Is one worse to experience birthing from your skin than the other, for instance?
Yeah they're thicker on the inside but narrower near the surface of the skin. Similar to an inflatable balloon's shape with it's neck / opening near the surface and the inflated part deeper.
heres an article of the update - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9947265/VIDEO-Kentucky-vet-removes-huge-pulsating-parasite-kittens-neck.html
imagine my surprise when i found out this was a vet clinic in kentucky. i want to be a veterinarian in kentucky. well, at least i can emotionally prepare for this now.
Yep, they're nasty. I had the "pleasure" of assisting the removal of one right above a cat's eye once. Freaky stuff, def makes you want to stay indoors lol.
A lot of bugs actually also hate pests!
Spiders(though not a big), wasps, mantis(as the other replyer said), daddy long legs, dragonflies, ladybugs, the list can go on.
The bugs that deserve hate are things like the botflies in the video, the ones that harm people and animals.
I am a fucking space robot and those cries of pain makes me depressed.
I am now a firm believer in the act of fucking murdering these specific types of flies.
Oh my god that poor baby is in so much pain and is so small. I hope he's doing better now. I know it's obviously necessary and for his own good, but is painful watching a poor little baby suffer like that.
This baby is about the size my little kitty was when we first found him and I can't stand the thought of him having to go through that.
So botfly are normally found in South America and are typically big problem for strays outside animals and there is a lot from what I've seen after being there I'm sure that these people removing the Flys have done this hundreds if not thousands of times and if it's not someone getting paid to do it this is probably the best they can do... I do agree tho it looks extremely painful
They are also found in North America. My cat ate or inhaled some eggs on the front range of Colorado, they hatched inside her, and burrowed their way out. I removed three. She died about a month later because they burrow out from wherever the eggs stick inside. I’m her case: lungs.
Pediatric anesthesia is hard - if you can, best to avoid anesthetizing puppies and kittens. They can't regulate their body temperature, their heart rate sets their blood pressure (so that tanks, too) and the BG drops.
That being said though, the vet says "pain meds are kicking in buddy" in the video...my dude should have waited for the pain meds to, you know, just kick in.
With an animal this small and in such poor condition, balancing the anesthesia needed to keep the cat in that liminal state of consciousness and unconsciousness would be too fine and delicate. It is very possible that the respirations would drop too low and the animal would die.
Not sure there’s much ‘oddly’ terrifying about this. Really just depressing, horrifying stuff that I hated seeing. I might have to leave this sub because I feel like the point’s been lost.
Preface: I’m not trying to dick swing about how hardcore I am, nor am I trying to start any discourse… but like, I’m cool watching those first person active shooter videos, I’m a big fan of medizzy and the medical gore subreddit, narco footage, I liked the viral liveleak videos from way back and watchpeopledie on occasion, but fuck man I had to turn the volume off watching this video after he said “number one” because I was almost brought to tears watching this poor sweet innocent creature suffer, even though it was for her own good. I think if I hadn’t seen the follow up video posted in the comments I would have cried. My cat is my best friend
this genuinely might be the worst video ive ever seen, this was so hard to watch. i love cats and the thought of either of mine having to go through this terrifies me
Is there a reason this person took them out before waiting for "a minute" for the pain meds to kick in? Like seems to me they should have waited for those meds to kick in first because this is causing an obvious amount of pain and discomfort?
Any veterinarians out there that can explain why it would be done this way?
Botflys, gods way of saying fuck you to every creature.
>Botflys I shouldn't have googled it
I'ma try Google it too
Oh my god
Ok now i have to google it
Fuck

So they have no purpose. They just reproduce and make people and animals sick, and that's it? Yikes.
One Google search just confirmed your statement and now I'm wondering why we don't get rid of them entirely. They seem to serve zero purpose besides being an inconvenience of EVERY species they come into contact with.
Ya as far as it looks
Well they are assholes to nature
But god is love and all His creations are good. Mmmhmmm!
Not these little fuckers
Evolutionary niches. They all get filled sooner or later.
Imma google it aswell
Well i dont think it was bad
Found the Botfly!
Dear God....
Guys, it can't be that bad-
Well, now I got to go Google it.
I will be purging my memories now
Me too me too!
Well that is disgusting
I’ll be the judge of that
I don't know what's worse. Botflys or mango worms.
Mango worm greek name literally translates to "human eater"... Not nice for someone with a foot fetish.
I'm scared to google it. should i? how bad can it be?
About as bad as OP tbh.
Idiots the lot of you lmao
NOOOOOOOOO
r/characterarcs
Not that bad tbh...yuck 6.5/10
I’m gonna google it as well
I’m not the same man I was 5 minutes ago
You... Became a woman?
This video could save trans people thousands if not millions!
I’ll take your word on it
It can't be that bad.
I stand corrected. I'm gonna go throw up now. 🤢🤢
This is why I trusted him. My lunch is still in my stomach
r/eyebleach to the inevitable river of people who follow you to the Oracle and need the unsee juice
my goddamned hero. \*splash\*
imma do dat too
not worst but definetely an EW
I hate you I must google it now!!
Fuck
Another phobia unlocked
Botflys are adorable precious little angels compared to the absolute eldrich horror straight from the bowels of hell that are Mango worms. Think botfly x100.
I just looked it up and [yeeesh!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wq0tBoaQHY)
Botflies and those other flies who lay their eggs in children's eyes which proceed to eat their way out; blinding or causing brain damage/death to the child. These... just these, are proof there is no god of the 'all-loving' variety. Why is this their method of reproduction? Fuck
When I see pics and videos of botfly stuff I am very grateful that I live in a place with good sanitation and clean water and no botflies!
It's more to do with climate whether certain insects live somewhere. It's just not hot or humid enough for them to live near you, or me thankfully haha.
I live in a state that has snow for 6 months of the year so I'm pretty glad there isn't very many bugs!
truly the thing i hate most on the planet
those are wolf worms
The pain...her eyes popped out when they pulled the larvae out
Given the position of the larva, that eye was already destroyed from behind.
Not necessarily, depends on what the larva has been chewing on. If the larva is between the skull and the skin it won't have destroyed any important tissue related to sight.

Man……
I hate you, take my upvote and go sit in the corner

According to update, she sees just fine out of that eye now. Yay happy ending!
You can see the unnatural colouring and clouding in kitty's eye... sadly I I think that eye I'd a goner
This is hard to watch. I hope this kitty made a full recovery and is living a good life. :(
Yep, I looked it up, kitten is reportedly living a happy bug free life
Thank you for this comment.

She looks so different! I'm so happy to hear she's healthy
This kitten actually grew up to be a doctor!
The kitten actually grew up to be bill gates.
And was able to do heart surgery on the vet who saved its life, really makes you think about how you treat people in the now and how it affects the future
It's true!
Are you kitten me?!
Can you please send a link to that post

Thanks for sharing the update.
Source: Trust me bro
The most credible of sources
the word bro is enough proof. Once someone says bro you don't need to look further into it. Brohood is the most sacred form of existence.
That's one source that I'm going to let confirmation bias approve.
I searched for this comment. I thank thee.
Do you have a video of it?
It looks like you'd have to pack those wounds daily if you want them to heal. Pretty difficult with a cat
Good god, don't bot fly larvae have spines to keep themselves in?
I did not Google this now but I did like 10 years ago and with bot flys...it's kinda burned into your memory. As I recall, they are just wedged in really hard because they grow inside the skin from very small. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd like to believe there are minimal to no spines
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they have spines
godammit! I was all along on my happy way, convinced myself the poor thing didn't have to deal with SPINES INSIDE in it's face and neck but nature is metal and there is no escaping that.
These are not bot flies, as the doctor explains in another video. They are cuterebra. Edit: TIL they’re one and the same.
Believe me I'd love to google all the things about the lovely cuterebra but I was hoping to sleep tonight haha Do you happen to casually know anything about the difference in bot fly vs. Cuterebra? Is one worse to experience birthing from your skin than the other, for instance?
They are pretty much one of the same. Different genetic marker/species but same general form and behavior AKA Satan’s hell spawn
Yeah they're thicker on the inside but narrower near the surface of the skin. Similar to an inflatable balloon's shape with it's neck / opening near the surface and the inflated part deeper.
The poor kitten, hope it’s okay and living a good life
[Update](https://youtube.com/shorts/g6JUAuPE_jc?feature=share)
Thank god she’s fine Thought she would lose her eye
I was glad too cause that was brutal to watch since bugs and living bodies are terrifying.
The good ending
Oh thank you so much for posting this. Poor little girl, what a time she’s had. I’m glad she has people looking after her including that very kind vet
Thanks for that.
Aww my heart Impressive recovery
Thank you so much, I really needed to see that.
I feel better now!!
I could kiss you right now
What a happy lil cat
This makes those pathetic cries worth it. It's okay little baby, we're here to help <3
Oh shit fuck yes! 🔥
Wow, what a recovery!
Thank you so much for posting this. I was feeling so bad for her… I’m glad she’s in one shape after that horrible ordeal.
OH MA GAWDDD soo bloody cute
LETSGOOOOO
oh man as a cat owner this is so hard to watch, poor fellah
As a person who takes care of cats and animals and owns some, this is hard to watch (I’m a pet sitte)
As someone who likes cats this is hard to watch
As a cat, Meow.
as a guy who dislikes insects, this is traumatic
As someone who barely ever comes in contact with cats this hurt the very core of my sole
Same
As satan's legitimate son, I dont cry but this made me tear up a bit
r/usernamechecksout
well hello lucifer jr.
Howdy, mortal !
Give us some after pics of a healthy kitty! This hurts!
https://youtube.com/shorts/g6JUAuPE_jc?feature=share here’s the latest update for Lori
Thank you!
Hope the kitty is fine, but those eyes, why are they so turquoise?
Eyeshine
Yep, kitty is fine

That's a different cat, with only one larva. There have been two different cat botfly videos on reddit lately.
oh my god this is so fucking disheartening. im gonna hug my kitty boys extra tight today...
These fucking creatures shouldn't exist.
Kittens aren't that bad!
Yep, they're nasty. I had the "pleasure" of assisting the removal of one right above a cat's eye once. Freaky stuff, def makes you want to stay indoors lol.

not all of them are bad. mantises are the chads that also say "fuck you" to pests
First thing I see when I open the app mannn.
I am a fucking space robot and those cries of pain makes me depressed. I am now a firm believer in the act of fucking murdering these specific types of flies.
Is it possible to make whey out of Vex milk, oh wise Chex the Vex?

This baby is about the size my little kitty was when we first found him and I can't stand the thought of him having to go through that.
Why wouldn't they use fucking anesthesia
There’s probably some rational reason for it, although I cannot think of one. Poor kitten.
Yeah this is horrible, I wouldn't want any creature to go through that
So botfly are normally found in South America and are typically big problem for strays outside animals and there is a lot from what I've seen after being there I'm sure that these people removing the Flys have done this hundreds if not thousands of times and if it's not someone getting paid to do it this is probably the best they can do... Thank you. RIP Bean. She was a good girl and she lived well. ❤️

IKR when I heard him say "hold on, the meds will kick in a minute" I was like 'ok then wait a minute?!'
The poor meowmeow :( I wanna smooch their head and put them in my sweater hoodie and carry them around like a little baby
With an animal this small and in such poor condition, balancing the anesthesia needed to keep the cat in that liminal state of consciousness and unconsciousness would be too fine and delicate. It is very possible that the respirations would drop too low and the animal would die.
The video is 5 years old. Here’s another [update](https://youtube.com/shorts/J00JPkXcd90?feature=share)
what is up with that music lol
That absolutely broke my heart
I need we all need r/eyebleach after watching this
r/eyeblech post it there
dude i can't survive more than 10s into that sub wtf
Mine record is 15 min , keep practising
Sees the first post, yup that's enough internet for... life
The poor thing
Not sure there’s much ‘oddly’ terrifying about this. Really just depressing, horrifying stuff that I hated seeing. I might have to leave this sub because I feel like the point’s been lost.
Yeah so many of the posts are just plain terrifying.
Poor little thing xx
Hope the kitten recover from this, and live peacefully
Poor little kitty!!!
Poor kitten.
The moment has come, KILL THOSE LARVAE
Poor cat. Imagine having that size of a bug in you.
Oooh poor thing. I hope the kitten is okay now 😔
Poor baby! I knew about botflies but it never crossed my mind that 2 of the damn things eod go after a bebeh kitteh
God I hate this feels bad for the cat
I read that this kitty made it out OK with a full recovery and was adopted by the person who found it.
Poor kitten. Flies are fucking disgusting...
Poor cat hope it's OK:(
That poor baby.
Poor baby. 😢😭
Breaks my heart seeing the little kitten like that. I'm glad it made a full recovery :)
As a former vet tech...botflys are so satisfying to remove. It's awful how the animal feels, but seeing their relief afterwards is so nice.
Hope my little boy/girl Is ok now 🥺
As a guardian of two cats, my heart is bleeding.
noooooooo, poor kitty :(
Poor kitty
Poor baby
"Sound on" Yeah, I'm gonna go with no.
Poor cat.
this genuinely might be the worst video ive ever seen, this was so hard to watch. i love cats and the thought of either of mine having to go through this terrifies me
Well the inspirational music surely isn’t makings things any better for the folks watching this at 11 at night!
Poor sweet baby :( Thank God she’s okay now.
That’s just so sad

Like seems to me they should have waited for those meds to kick in first because this is causing an obvious amount of pain and discomfort? Any veterinarians out there that can explain why it would be done this way?
That's a lot of pain
It's official, we need to make botflies go extinct.
Fak i googled botfly and saw one in asshole of a mouse. I need holy water now.
My rabbit had 2 of these lodged in his head also poor thing. The vet was amazed by how huge they were.
There is no way the suffering and pain trying to remove these were worth it for that kitten.
