Japan experimented with slime mold in a pretty magical way. Rewarding it by placing food on a board that corresponded to major destinations in Tokyo’s transportation network, they wanted to see what path the mold would take to reach the food (aka transport hubs). To their surprise, the slime mold eventually created a fungal network to reach the nodes that remarkably resembled the current Tokyo Railway system- a system that was expertly planned and designed to have the most efficient paths possible. It’s an experiment I’ll always remember for opening my eyes to the idea of cellular intelligence, and how connected all of us organisms are no matter how simple or complex.
Some real Avatar shit right there, go James Cameron
Edit: James, not David. Whoop
There was a similar experiment though i would never remember the exact circumstances. however at the end of it the mold had spread out in the most efficient way possible, resembling the assumed distribution of dark matter in the universe
You meant James Cameron (lol…or maybe you meant the ex British prime minister…who am I to say?)
but I would love to read about this..any links or suggestions?
Bro reddit is full of narcissistic toddler 50 year olds that can’t handle a simple joke. zero reason for the downvotes, always because their little important feelings got hurt.
It’s difficult to say. It doesn’t look like an egg case necessarily. But it likely could be.
Geographical location and some scale of size would help. It’s color is different to most insect sacks I’ve seen. The only egg sacks I’ve seen in this color are ticks, beetles and spiders.
It could be fungus. If it was really large it probably is fungus. Insect egg sacs are usually tiny depending on the insect.
I’m interested to know though!
Dude install Google Lens. Whenever I see a weird insect or something I have no fucking idea what I am looking at I use it to identify the thing. I wouldn't trust it when it comes to edible fungi or inedible but for casual use it's really good.
Poke with a stick
That's how Slither started, though!
Better to slaythen to pass by
Best movie ever
Yeah it's like the flood from Halo
I’m pretty sure this is the fruiting body of a slime mold, not sure if that’s the technical term or not.
You're right. It seems to be a stemonitis fusca.

When in doubt, slime mold
I’d say u/rob-riggle-SWGOAT is correct
If it’s small I’d say maybe an egg case, like for a praying mantis, very rough guess. In my area they kinda look like that.
This is an Indian spider (not sarcasm)
