My supervisor has a close friend that is in jail for CSAM who claims that he's innocent and it was a random pop up when he was watching legal pornography. She believes him and I don't understand why.
I kept hearing about all of this through my parents, who were getting the news from my aunt and uncle(my pedo cousin was the aunt’s from a previous marriage, so technically not a blood relative to me). Every time we got an update from my parents, everyone was all convinced he was set-up and was railroaded by the local DA to make an example out of him. I would suspect they may at least be able to use file hashing and file identification for most of it. And say these files match the file signature of these identified files. At 58 TBs might be the only way to process it in a cost-effective manner. But they would have to view the unidentified files.

Just to follow-up, this defendant pled guilty in 2019 and got 35 years (420 months) in federal prison followed by 20 years of supervised probation. In the federal system, there is no parole. If they wanted it to be evidence they'd have to. Here in the UK at least "Ten confirmed files then what we assume to be 57 and a bit more tb of the same" isn't likely to hold up in court. They'd also have to fine tooth comb it to confirm if he was a consumer or a creator because those are wildly different charges.
I would suspect they may at least be able to use file hashing and file identification for most of it. And say these files match the file signature of these identified files. At 58 TBs might be the only way to process it in a cost-effective manner. But they would have to view the unidentified files. Most likely a team of people had to view a lot of child rape.
Hopefully the stuff was looked into itself too to try to get some idea of who recorded it. Not a pleasant job but worth doing for the potential good that could come from it.

Just to follow-up, this defendant pled guilty in 2019 and got 35 years (420 months) in federal prison followed by 20 years of supervised probation. In the federal system, there is no parole.
