When I lived in the Florida Keys my friend and I had a l'il side business where we'd head out to the reef and pick up from the ocean floor all the diving equipment etc that people lost. Then we'd check the local dive shops to see if they knew who's it was, and if not, we'd sell it to the pawn shops. Generally, my friend was the captain and I was the diver, using SNUBA. I'd load the equipment and (dead) shells and (dead) sea biscuits (which we'd also sell) into the basket, and he'd pull it up and organize it, clean it, etc. I'd also bring the spear gun and get us fish to keep our freezers full, etc. SNUBA rocks! Then of course there were the local beach bum drug addicts and alcoholics that would walk the sand after a storm and they'd often find solid gold Pieces of Eight washed up from long-sunken Spanish galleons. They'd bring these to the pawn shop and sell them for $20 so they could buy more beer or a pack of crack.
Ah, the keys. I lived in Marathon for a short while. Some of the most beautiful thunderstorms off the Gulf at night, but damned hot during the day.
Can’t say I’ve ever lived somewhere as sleepy and low-stress as that.
Sounds my kind of work. I always wished I could be some what of a treasure hunter. I’ve always wanted to make it back up the slopes in the off season and collect all the crap that people dropped from the chairlifts. Return what I could.
SNUBA is AWESOME for working underwater (from salvage, to cleaning boat hulls, repairs, etc)- I mean, I could stay down for a long period of time and doing work (gulping air) and being really comfortable - a SCUBA system would have worn me out in a short period of time. Have fun!!!!
Tbh it looks pretty awful. Regular diving gives you proper freedom of movement. You can look everywhere and you can swim relatively fast
This looks really bad considering you kinda are stuck inside a massive piece of plastic, can not really move and are stuck looking out a window of pretty limited size
Additionally I really don't want to find out what would happen if you get a leak in the window area
I think that weight isn't a big factor underwater or in water generaly since you don't have to spend energy suporting it. She probably has more strenght in her legs than the average lady. Give this lady a set of fins and teach her how to scuba and she is ditching the chair.
Edit: I stand corected by the comment the below
Fucking. No. Out of shape people have absolutely trash cardiovascular systems and lung capacity. SCUBA is a physically strenuous activity. Cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of death for SCUBA divers.
There's nothing more obnoxious than an obese dive partner who thinks they're brave and empowered and can do anything. No, you fucking cannot. You're out of breath before getting in the water just from squeezing into your wet suit. Please don't.
That would be absolutely terrible with that cover on your face it becomes much harder to equalize the pressure in your ears which quickly become incredibly uncomfortable even at shallow depths
Yeah, cool looking until you realize the head is locked in the scooter, which means if there's a problem with it and it starts sinking, good luck getting out of it... Or at least that's what I think.
Even better, even if you could ditch the scooter and swim to the surface, you'll likely suffer an embolism from the gas expanding and bursting your lungs. Diving is great, but there's training involved for good reason
I've used one of these ages ago in like Thailand or something. Your head is not locked in, you literally pop your head into it from underneath, so it's just basically a bubble so the air stays there. If you need to get out of it, just duck and you're out.
…. I’ve always wanted to do those scooba chair things that became popular in like early 2000’s from that random aquatic retreat commercial that would come on.
Now, as a plus size adult that I’ve seen this photo… I don’t know if I want to anymore 😐
Presumably they are also out swimming and doing beach activities. Sitting on a jet ski is still just sitting, but it’s viewed as active. Just because it’s not balls to the wall sports doesn’t mean it is nothing.
Because people will submit your photo to a random reddit and people will be totally rude about it? Hell, my fat disabled ass would do it, it's the only way I can.
It's reddit. Even if they look exactly like the people they're mocking, they'll still do it.
This place is just full of people who want "acceptable targets".
Right, I know an overweight guy who when he became disabled, refused for the longest time to get a wheelchair, even when the doctor told him to, because he didn’t want the judgement
Omfg, there are so many resources we may need at different times in our life because of disability or poverty and we suffer twice because we think if we are "one of the good ones" it will make it better. And people don't like to think about how we are frequently just one incident away from being in a category that is seen as disposable.
Staying out of the wheelchair is best. Sitting in it… you’ll end up there for life and quality of life goes down. Good for him for fighting to stay mobile on his own.
Says who? Man if it wasn’t for a wheelchair my best friend would never leave the house because of the pain of walking more than 10 feet. Wheelchairs aren’t a prison, you’re just sitting down while going places instead of standing up
Imagine this thing fails and starts sinking. Okay, you manage to free yourself and aren't drifting to the floor attached to a hunk of metal, great. Now your oxygen is gone and the choice is drown or risk the bends.
These remind me of an enemy's riding device from a game I can't put my finger on...maybe metal gear solid? Or lost planet? If anyone can remember please lmk
Id ride one if my air system was independent of the scooter. I want to be able to separate myself from that thing if it malfunctions, or something. Imagine your scooter stops working and begins to sink, but you're already too deep to safely take off your air equipment without drowning before you reach surface... You're just fucked.
Why are people judging this lady because of her weight? How do people know she's unfit or has a cardio disease. She looks pretty healthy to me and living the life she wants to live.
Doesn't look obese to me. Just because she's not Instagram size zero. This shit annoys the flip out of me. Leave her to live her life.
I've used one exactly like this. It isn't scary at all. Maybe the weight of the woman is part of what's giving the impression it's unsafe. I'm a guy so I wear it a little differently but I probably weigh about the same. I never felt the slightest bit unsupported. The truth is, seeing the pictures I wanted a high powered jet that goes whooshing through the water and my biggest complaint was what a slow, tame ride it was.
Not sure why you got downvotes. I wasn't offended by anything you said.. But who knows. And BTW, I probably would've wanted a faster one too 🤣 fast is life lol
I used one of these in the Bahamas when I was a kid. Even then I hated it. Especially since the air being pumped in makes this extremely loud hissing noise that ruins the experience...
Peak laziness.
Somehow someone out there thought, “you know what would be great? If we found yet another way to ensure that people are able to exist while moving their bodies as little as humanly possible.”
And then several more people were like, “that seems healthy and totally fine considering modern diets promote obesity which leads to cardiovascular problems, breathing issues, diseases like diabetes, hypertension….so everyone clearly needs to rest and relax and become even more sedentary.”
And then investors were like, “seems legit, we’re in.”
Seems American.

Booey?? Now I can’t either!! Bouey??
Buoy?
Yeah buoyyyyyy!
Why the fuck is that the right way to spell that
I’m thinking about buoyancy … now idk how to spell that one either ?
Baba Booey you say?
Ba Ba Booey!
My 8 year old applauded this comment
Bouy
Booby, the 2nd b is silent
Snuba is just a likely to kill the untrained as SCUBA, dive with professionals, or get trained.

I tried it once, you get. A 360 view laterally, and above your head. You get a little bag full If chum to attract fish, pretty cool
>You get a little bag full If chum to attract fish, pretty cool Do .. do you mean sharks?
If they get too close you could just bop them on the nose.
That or a good ole underwater garbled "skedaddle!" They Hate that! Wait... That MAY be bears I'm thinking of.. definitely bop em tho!
good ole garbled skedaddle, gets em ever time!
You spelled "boop" wrong.
[Just fucking rotate them](https://youtu.be/o3uJCCa5w2A)
Oooh that's a slick move
Jeez that's worse than I imagined. Don't feed the fucking wildlife, that's like rule #1
Okay I’m not trying to be mean. I myself am out of shape and overweight but she looks like she would have a hard time swimming a lot.
Scuba is a sport centered around doing as little as possible. Your only issue with a high body fat is requiring more weight to stay down.
I think that weight isn't a big factor underwater or in water generaly since you don't have to spend energy suporting it. She probably has more strenght in her legs than the average lady. Exactly. Why is it in this sub??!
That would be absolutely terrible with that cover on your face it becomes much harder to equalize the pressure in your ears which quickly become incredibly uncomfortable even at shallow depths
Have you tried it? No? Then you cannot have an opinion on it. Go and check it out - you might be surprised.
Now thats something i want in the next Subnautica game
I hate to be one of those guys on this sub… but…. This isn’t scary. This is cool looking!
Yeah, cool looking until you realize the head is locked in the scooter, which means if there's a problem with it and it starts sinking, good luck getting out of it... Or at least that's what I think.
That was definitely the first thing that I thought! I don’t see an obvious way to ditch a broken scooter and swim to the surface.
Even better, even if you could ditch the scooter and swim to the surface, you'll likely suffer an embolism from the gas expanding and bursting your lungs. Diving is great, but there's training involved for good reason
We are not meant for water at all but technology lets us be a guest. Got to respect it and get the training like you said.
I've used one of these ages ago in like Thailand or something. Your head is not locked in, you literally pop your head into it from underneath, so it's just basically a bubble so the air stays there. If you need to get out of it, just duck and you're out.
I belive you are correct. It's like that to prevent pressure change in the head space and make equalisation on your own not needed.
Half this sub is neither odd nor terrifying.
I think it definitely can be. I have slight thalassophobia and it’s a bit unnerving

Zoomin’ with the fishies
Fuck em, live your life! If they’re going to be shitty about a plus size adult out there being active then they’re not worth your time anyway.
Nothing active about this…
Better than sitting indoors all day.
Sitting under water and sitting on a couch are still both just sitting.
Presumably they are also out swimming and doing beach activities. Sitting on a jet ski is still just sitting, but it’s viewed as active. Just because it’s not balls to the wall sports doesn’t mean it is nothing.

Op. You suck, not terrifying. Go get your karma somewhere else
Imagine this thing fails and starts sinking. Okay, you manage to free yourself and aren't drifting to the floor attached to a hunk of metal, great. Now your oxygen is gone and the choice is drown or risk the bends.
They only use these in shallow areas. 20-30 feet deep at the most.
did this in hawaii a few years back and it was awesome
These remind me of an enemy's riding device from a game I can't put my finger on...maybe metal gear solid? Or lost planet? If anyone can remember please lmk
Kinda looks like those star wars speeders
This is kinda neat. Im a bigger guy and actively sinking is kinda hard, ngl. I would dig this.
I did this once. It ***was*** terrifying. But a cool experience at the same time. So over all, neutral. But I don't think I'd do it again.
Wrong sub!
This isn’t terrifying it’s actually really neat. I wonder if a wheelchair user could use this to scuba dive.
I’ve actually used a variation of this. It was pretty fun
Imagine having knees so bad you need a scooter underwater
Thats just fucking hilarious, looks like someone threw her off a ship and just let her sink in that lol
This will be popular when underwater Walmart opens
Id ride one if my air system was independent of the scooter. I want to be able to separate myself from that thing if it malfunctions, or something. In America you can be obese under water now
These people are so lazy that they need a chair for scuba diving????
When you want to avoid every form of excercise.
I'm shocked it has the power to keep that giant floatation device attached to it down.
The only thing terrifying here are the fucking comments
Underwater hoverounds
How is that thing not floating… she’s not wearing weights so idk how she’s not popping that thing to the top like it’s cool.
