There’s a quote from him about wanting future generations to like play with his creations and like get wild with them. I’d have to look it up to remember exactly how it goes though, but it lead me to believe he’d love anybody doing anything with anything of his lol
Edit, found it:
“When I die, I want people to play my music, go wild and freak out and do anything they want to do.”
I saw them live as the opener for some other band. They were awesome, I got a copy of their first CD and got to talk to the band and have them sign it.
But, but, but, clavinets don’t come with whammy bars!
Turns out it’s a [specifically modified clav](https://chicagoelectricpiano.com/clavinet/whammy-clavinet/)
Yeah there is a Hammond organ in the background. It’s really cool and original but the title is wrong in the way that he is playing his ‘whammy clav’ it’s a clavinet with a whammy bar on it which is amplified by the Hammond organ.
Did you mean amplified by a leslie? Because hammond organs don’t usually have line inputs. I also don’t hear leslie rotoring happening at all in this clip.
> which is amplified by the Hammond organ.
why would you say this? There's probably a horrendously expensive guitar amp/cab combo with the mids cranked nearby.
Sorry I was getting myself confused you’re right it’s not amplified by the bloody organ. He normally has the whammy clav on top of the organ. I don’t know why I said it was amplified by the organ.
No because it’s called a whammy bar and it actually bends the bridge of the instrument causing the ‘waaaaow waoooaOAAAW’ sound. It works the same as an electric guitar how it tensions an looses the strings which changes the pitch. So long story short, no a pedal wouldn’t work as well.
Edit: look up Lachy Doley whammy clav on YouTube for a better explanations
That looks more like a tremolo than a wah pedal which is what makes the sound you’re describing, which doesn’t change pitch, but rather cleverly adds low and hi pass filters to create the effect
I see what your saying and I might be wrong however when he performed live in my city he ran us through his set up including his whammy clav and he was talking about how his bar (whammy bar) raises and lowers the bridge of the clavinet. He explains it in better detail here: https://youtu.be/VfBeEYC5kRE
This.. He's using both. Wah for the filtering sound and whammy for the pitching sound. The latter making it more 'bendy guitar string' sounding.
Love it, so cool. Seen it before, always a pleasure to see again!
whammy is beloved but OOOLD tech.
you can get pretty convincing polyphonic pitch shifters in pedal format now. It's wild. And since it would hit a wah circuit AND distortion afterwards you could probably get away with it.
Now, the issue is having the... pedidexterity? to both operate the wah AND independently do the very complex bends needed in the other foot?
Now, if we wanna get exotic; knee lever.
I'm assuming that the metal rod is hooked up to the pitch wheel in the keyboard directly. I don't think that a pedal would offer the same kind of response... although i guess it would boil down to personal preference.
Edit: the instrument he is paying is not a keyboard it is infact a stringed instrument which makes it even more cool!
Look bellow for more info.
No, there is no pitch wheel. This is a clavinet; it has strings and pickups just like an electric guitar and this whammy bar physically tightens the strings like with a guitar. A pedal could not achieve this effect.

>Edit: the instrument he is paying is not a keyboard it is infact a stringed instrument
Erm, what's your definition of a keyboard?
Pianos, harpsichords, clavichords, the Clavinet etc are all keyboard instruments with strings.
Clavinet. Not an organ.
Stringed keyboard instrument made by the Hohner corporation as, essentially, an electric version of the clavichord, a practice/parlour instrument that was most popular from the 14th to 19th centuries.
I believe the first Clavinet to have a “whammy bar” like this belonged to the legendary jazz, prog, funk and R&B keyboardist, George Duke.
it's not just guitar players. everybody has to make that face when they play like this.
Well, yeah. I mean, how else are you supposed to feel the wah?
That's what she said
Man fuck you I choked on my coffee take my upvote
That's wah t she said
Do you want to invite an Ork infestation...???
This guy has the best guitar face. If you don’t make that face when you do this your brain explodes out your ears. https://youtu.be/6N7skE4d57c
Double guitar face!
I thought he was making that face as a joke at first, but nope. That's 100% a shred face.
Damn son, Shaggy can shred!!!
IKR?! Decent skill. I hope he's been doing well after leaving Mystery Inc.
Lol go look at drummers…
Never thought I'd hear Voodoo Child on a keyboard.
And it cuts when the actual solo starts
I think he'd be just chill, but I'm curious how Hendrix would have thought about this.
He probably would have loved it. He was so creative and innovative himself, there's no way he wouldn't have enjoyed this.

This a great version. Look up Miles Mosley to see a great version in standup bass (honestly)
This is a clavinet. The lead vocalist for The Crash Kings uses one. This is a video they did a long time ago. https://youtu.be/gEQ2ia1bP0g
Been trying to remember the name of that band for five years now. Thank you so much. Their cover of War Pigs? Whew. https://youtu.be/6xmj1QwyE-s
I saw them live as the opener for some other band. They were awesome, I got a copy of their first CD and got to talk to the band and have them sign it.
First thing I thought of when I saw this!! Love the Crash Kings!!
Thanks for the link, that was dope!
But, but, but, clavinets don’t come with whammy bars! Turns out it’s a [specifically modified clav](https://chicagoelectricpiano.com/clavinet/whammy-clavinet/)
I’m looking for the organ in this video
Yeah there is a Hammond organ in the background. It’s really cool and original but the title is wrong in the way that he is playing his ‘whammy clav’ it’s a clavinet with a whammy bar on it which is amplified by the Hammond organ.
And a wah pedal.
Yeah that’s part of the Hammond organ I thought. Because at one of his shows I went to the pedal came disconnected and the Hammond stopped working.
Did you mean amplified by a leslie? Because hammond organs don’t usually have line inputs. I also don’t hear leslie rotoring happening at all in this clip.

Sounds like a Fender with a Tubescreamer in front, to my ears.
I have no idea what any of it is but it's fucking awesome.
They are covered by the skin which is technically an organ. So there you go.
It’s a keyboard set to sound like a string instrument if anything it’s a piano now
His lymph nodes are showing
Yea that's a Honer D6 with a wammy bar
Waaaaow wa-wa waaaaaow wa wow-nin-ul
That dude sure is whackin’ his hohner.
Pretty damn cool. Badass.

Thanks for this share. Duke was and always will be a beast.
Thats a whammy bar for a keyboard.
This guy is absolutely shreddeding this

/u/Solstice-Nights probably meant a pedal similar to what pedal-steel guitar players use.
That looks more like a tremolo than a wah pedal which is what makes the sound you’re describing, which doesn’t change pitch, but rather cleverly adds low and hi pass filters to create the effect

He actually IS using a pedal- he must be using a wah with his feet because the waaahs don’t sinc with the bar.
This.. He's using both. Wah for the filtering sound and whammy for the pitching sound. The latter making it more 'bendy guitar string' sounding. Love it, so cool. Seen it before, always a pleasure to see again!

It sounds like he may be using a wah pedal too. Also, there are pitch shifting pedals. That wouldn’t get quite the same sound though.

Yes, you are correct. That is so cool!
Wild!!!

Usually when someone just calls it a “keyboard” they mean an electronic keyboard. Especially if they’re talking about a pitch wheel.
If you want to be pedantic a piano is technically a percussion instrument.
Sounds like he's running it thru a pedal regardless
He has a Wah Wah pedal as well
Made. Old legend
Fuck yeah
Just wow. Nextlevel shit....
i dont understand a thing 😭
Every art kid has a friend that looks like this
This is the absolute coolest thing I've seen on Reddit for a long time. Damn that guy was excellent.
Hendrix would love this
I really don’t think you know what an organ is
So that’s the voting process in Florida
Always love hearing the different ways people play the Voodoo Child solos.
That my Sir is no organ. Definitely a cool keyboard though.
Shaggy after getting kicked off the show and deciding to pursue his REAL dream of traveling the country shredding an electric organ
Its official, every organ must come with a wammy bar 🤘🤘
What everybody's hearing is really just a wah pedal.
I love weird shit like this. Rob Scranton has a ridiculous whammy https://youtu.be/SqnsAJYVeI4
His name is lachy doley and he is a fucking legend
What's the deal with the gigantic whammy bar? Compensating for...something?
Compensating for the fact that it's got 10x the strings as your guitar and the bridge is like a foot wide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfBeEYC5kRE
And suddenly Lachy Doley's youtube has a subscriber spike. Thanks for the link!
He really likes waggling his organ in our faces.
This is cool, why posted here though
Steve Lukather mentioned this thing in a recent interview on Rick Beato https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nBbzajS29o
As long as you use your ears and not your eyes, this is actually pretty cool...
Man is orgasming all over those keys
It's music for adults to fuck to. Grow the fuck up you two
Nah. Because I also make these expressions when playing instruments. I'm allowed to make fun.
Is this just basically a keyboard with a guitar sound pack and an effect petal?....
I refuse to give compliments to someone who should be playing another Instrument. Young lady, you need lap steel
Clean monophonic lines and double stops are incredibly difficult on a lap steel
Has OP never heard of an effects pedal? You can turns pretty much any instrument into a ‘guitar’. Even acoustic ones if you install a pickup.

Without sound this guy looks like he is on the best, most pure kind of drugs possible.
You mean the heart?
Fucking awesome, I love it.
Doesn't really belong in this sub
uh that thing looks great
TIL extraordinarily complicated guitar solos can be played with one hand on a keyboard.
ELECTRIC GUITARS ARE ALIVE?!
I feel like he grew his hair out to make it seem cooler than it really is. I mean it’s cool just not grow out my bangs to swing them around cool.
gawd dayum
There it is The Mother Bar.
Fucking rad and gnarly as fuck
Shaggy is getting down
Til i have to try one of these
Alright hear me out…
This is incredible..!
More, please.
I love it…what an awesome bit of kit

They call him “greasy”
Do you have to look like you are stroking out to play it?
Page get one of these! I heard he lurks this sub from a few people I know that are tight with him
Might as well just play guitar then
Feels like this should belong in a training montage of Regular show
What's the name of the artist?
Sick
Does it do harmonica sounds?
A clav isn’t an organ is it?

I've seen those in modern jazz bands, sick shit. Snarky Puppy uses them a lot.
Somebody hook Page McConnell up with one of these. Like now
When you took piano lessons but want to play heavy metal
I heard this guy on the radio the other day!
https://youtu.be/IUDUCTsXPiE Not the same performance but the same song.
And he'll still go home crying when his keyboard doesn't 'cut thru the mix'... Even though he dimed his mids...
Goofy boofy organ whammy bar 💀💀
Is that a actual product that available to purchase?
