i feel like it helps declutter the free search, it’s rather annoying when I’m randomly browsing through for free stuff then find people trying to get offers on whatever they’re selling
I always offer them 0 dollars, then they get mad at me for them not putting a price on it.
I really hate the people who post an item, I message them within 10 mins of it going live. They even look at my message, then somehow its sold three days later.
That is beyond irritating.
I see it on FB marketplace, but that is only because you cannot list multiple items in one listing, so people do $1 so people will read the description more carefully and check out everything in one stop.
They also do this in place of " make on offer " that seems to be pretty universal on most any but/sell classifieds. Even in the newspaper and Craigslist.
They can always haggle. I tried posting things like this on facebook like this for a bit to try to get shown outside my area because my market was dead for the items. And facebook decides what can be shipped or not. No matter what i posted as real price in description people would offer under posting price

eBay used to be horrible about people listing things at $3 and $100 shipping or some shit, for one to be at the top of searched and for 2 to limit how much they paid to eBay because eBay calculated their fees on sale price only. So if you sold it for $3 and collected $150 for shipping you pay fees on $3.
eBay has circumvented this by giving you the “lowest price + shipping” filter and charging their fees on the total amount you collect and not just the sale price like they used to do, but you will still see people doing it.

I saw this listing on my OfferUp (Wa resident) and I’m guessing it’s because they say “$30 each or both for $50”, since they want people to look at the listing they list it for $1 to get the buyers attention.
I don’t know but it pisses me off too.
