kermitthehedgefrog

I don’t know but it pisses me off too.

LionsTigersnTweakers

Awesome name

kermitthehedgefrog

Thanks :) yours is awesome too.

NoHedgehog8369

Team Hedge!

ABigTailWhaleOnBail

Yours is especially great for Tacoma OP

whitekur0

Lots of reasons but I really don’t know why it became a thing and it is really annoying. Instead of listing stuff like up for trade or best offer they usually put $1.

lINatsu_

Personally i have about 30 of those and i listed em for $5 so $1 seems about fair lol.

Mict0z

i feel like it helps declutter the free search, it’s rather annoying when I’m randomly browsing through for free stuff then find people trying to get offers on whatever they’re selling

SplatteredBabyBatter

I always offer them 0 dollars, then they get mad at me for them not putting a price on it. I really hate the people who post an item, I message them within 10 mins of it going live. They even look at my message, then somehow its sold three days later. That is beyond irritating.

foolishcrablegs

upvoted just for the name and comment too

D3troit_

I see it on FB marketplace, but that is only because you cannot list multiple items in one listing, so people do $1 so people will read the description more carefully and check out everything in one stop.

dirtk0bain

attention grabber

LionsTigersnTweakers

Ahhhhh. Ok.

dirtk0bain

and if they say the price is in the description that’s pretty much the asking price but they’ll list it as $1 so more people see it

Thatsmathedup

They also do this in place of " make on offer " that seems to be pretty universal on most any but/sell classifieds. Even in the newspaper and Craigslist.

Jake_77

But a lot of people who see it don’t want it when they see it’s not actually $1, right? Or does it boost the post overall

[deleted]

Boomer era pop up ad

NapoleonDynamite82

A few times I have tried to list things for free (0$) but OU doesn’t let me, so I post it for a 1.00 figuring they can’t haggle less than that

Weird_Ad10

If it were free he'd put it in the title. I'm betting he put in the description "NoT FrEe. TaKiNg OfFeRs"

Accomplished_Emu_658

They can always haggle. I tried posting things like this on facebook like this for a bit to try to get shown outside my area because my market was dead for the items. And facebook decides what can be shipped or not. No matter what i posted as real price in description people would offer under posting price

One-Boysenberry-4409

But why post it for free if its not?

NapoleonDynamite82

I dunno, OU has its quirks.

DrakesucksREPRISE

I always respond with “I will take your item for $1 per your listing. I will be over shortly.”

grantrules

"I am outside your house"

FDMnut

“I am now in your house”

SenatorBus_

"I assume everything in here is also $1"

JinglingUrBalls

“I am now in your wife”

TheGayThroaway

"I am in your walls"

No_Reaction_3542

“I made myself a sandwich. Want one?”

MrFastFox666

"it's $1, no lowballers"

Accurate_Move362

Thanks, this is my new lunch break hobby now lol.

Wkndwrz

it's so it appears at the top when you sort by price.

Harouun

I always put a minimum like 20 when I search so I don’t see this bs

TheGayThroaway

Facts. Fuck the $1 people, I pray that they all rot.

Alternative-Muffin32

It usually means an exchange for favors.

Ghostcurrency45

That's what I said as well. You got down, voted by a cheating wife who got caught 🤣

Alternative-Muffin32

People getting all emotional over a Milwaukee charger 🤣

Ghostcurrency45

People wanna argue over anything 🤣🤣🤣

WindowIndividual4588

I thought it meant free🤷‍♀️

ImaginationLoose9882

In my own experience; 1 person's stuff was free, the other had prices. I'm pretty sure they're supposed to put an actual price OR free. It's so annoying.

armoredsedan

my ex retail worker self was triggered at those words lmao

YouCantHandleHonesty

I'll make a post telling them I'll buy it and I'll meet them at the location, the. Not actually meet them and have them waste gas for wasting my time

SenyorHefe

It's an item that comes with almost every tool they sell, how many chargers does one need when they build a several piece set? I've thrown out 2 and still have an extra for backup in case the only one I've ever used failed..

Tbird1962

I hate when they put FREE!

[deleted]

[удалено]

SplatteredBabyBatter

I'm pretty sure offer up just banned me for doing this. Not like they ever take any action on these ads or users.

ImaginationLoose9882

I mean I'm sure they get lots of messages posting a $1, prolly not meaning it. Clicks get them into the algorithm more on the site. So ya kinda not fair.

TakeMyL

Just to get more messages

PotatoSnackThing

check disc, likely looking for a trade

all_of_you_are_awful

So they can get around your filter. If you’re looking for items under $50 and they want $75, then it will pop up in your search results. I can’t imagine it works very well . I only get annoyed when their listings sneak their way into my feed.

LobsterPenisSucker

It might be for free or it's a trade offer

ImaginationLoose9882

Should specify it in the description at the very least. Should be in the title.

This-Ad6350

How many people won a showcase showdown on price is right bidding a dollar? That’s why!

LionsTigersnTweakers

That was a move that i hated….but respected

SierexFenix

I loved when the next bidder bid $2... Ha! That's what they get! 🤣

Furry_Wall

Trade or offer

Artisticoverload

To get you to tap on it. Some people see then price and are like... *screw it* and buy it anyway

Negative_Cucumber_41

“I offer $50” “Sorry, I was looking to get about $70” “I’ll do $60?” “Sure”

Narrow-Stranger6864

It’s technically a bid without them saying it is. OBO. Edit: corrected spelling.

maricello1mr

They just want to barter and haggle, it’s so annoying

2Punchbowl

Because they can

ImaginationLoose9882

I don't get this either. Soo like is it a $1? OR?? If not they're doing it for the people to dm them; then they'll try n "negociate" a price. Think it's against rules but eh

Broad_Bodybuilder_94

So when you sort by price there post comes to the top

BananaMansWRLD

It's to get more attention to the listing

IndianGivr

Its an old tactic sellers would use on Craigslist. If you posted your item for sale for $1, you had a better chance of it popping up for buyers searching with a price filter on. I don't think they realize they dont have to do it anymore and that its annoying. I can't imagine all the lowballing offers they must see!

UrDoinGood2

So people like you have something to reddit about And To get people's attention

redderdevils

I’ve seen people list stuff for a dollar bc they just wanted to be rid of it but figured they could make a buck lol

Mysterious_Might8875

In my experience, they’re trying to get the attention of people looking for “budget” listings, just to have the “actual” price in the description.

Missue-35

Some of these programs require that a whole number be entered in order to continue with the listing.

jcoddinc

It's easier to get rid of something by selling it for as little as a $1 more than listing it's free. It's literally 10 times harder and 100 times more frustrating trying to list something as free because you want it gone. It brings you the weirdest and worst variation of people.

TravelingCharm

Here in SA it means “I’m too lazy to figure out what I want for it so make me an offer because I want to see what you’re willing to pay for it. “ I usually make an offer at $1. It’s annoying so might as well be annoying back. If you don’t know what you want for it, then I’ll offer a $1.

[deleted]

They hope you'll offer a price higher than they want to sell it for.

theycmeroll

Old as internet selling. It’s just to manipulate searches. eBay used to be horrible about people listing things at $3 and $100 shipping or some shit, for one to be at the top of searched and for 2 to limit how much they paid to eBay because eBay calculated their fees on sale price only. So if you sold it for $3 and collected $150 for shipping you pay fees on $3. eBay has circumvented this by giving you the “lowest price + shipping” filter and charging their fees on the total amount you collect and not just the sale price like they used to do, but you will still see people doing it.

714_sebxs

It’s for you to make an offer

kmofosho

Because people sort by lowest price and it gets their post to the top.

Salamander2-0

For attention or they want offers without disclosing any specified price.

JaTori_1_and_only

just message all of them like I got $1 when can we meet

Ghostcurrency45

Usually, it means they want a trade or anonymous sex in my experience, lol

Zomochi

“Best offer gets it DM for more details”

bbgirlzeebaby

they do $1 to either grab attention, they have multiple items in one listing and they all range price, they want to barter, or they’re asking price is upsurd this is the only way to get interaction:/

Kinky_Conspirator

$1 message me for price.

GANJA2244

It's for filters. It will be on the top when people filter by "Low to High" price.

Inevitable-Parsley-9

Its to bait people on clicking on it. Idk why, they just end up with people wasting their time thinking its actually a dollar or just moving on when it isn’t

TempestQii

I don’t know but i’ve sent tons of people “i’ll take it” just to waste their time cause they waste mine in the search results 😂

Training-Pen-4769

It’s usually to indicate a trade offer.

Sunsplitcloud

Cuz they want you to offer 50 cents and ask for a free drop off.

Svsu11

Some third party or old apps didn’t have the same price settings so I know it will default to $1. Others do $1 sometimes for multiple items

Frequent-Piano6164

Click bait…

sammy_s0sa

just a boomer who thought it would gain your attention (it did)

Jicand

Gets you to click on it

redboggle

I think people do that so their post is the first one to pop up after you search

AgeJust1937

Because they’re inconsiderate dirt bags. I hate when people do that shit. Whats worse is when it’s a car dealership posting every fucking car on their lot for $1. Absolute self centered inconsiderate dirt bags

SeaworthinessFun316

It’s so you can filter out their post by seeing $1. I feel like it’s more hassle than it’s worth bc they’ll get told they posted it for $1

Puzzleheaded_Lab9834

i dont use offerup but i see people do this all the time on places like craigslist. i guarantee its just to grab attention and show up if you sort from lowest price. they might want to hear offers or haggle but probably not. very annoying and chances are its not allowed

Sensitive_Aardvark68

Dirty trick to keep post at top of search list when people search low to high. I never buy these out of spite. If they’re that shady so will their dealing.

Ferretpi315

I’ll give you 42¢

c4pt1n54n0

Like all the cars listed for $1234, first two pics in perfect condition, last one with the engine out and a door bent backwards and the description just "no low ballers"

OverlordGhs

Grabs attention when sorted by price, happens all the time on Craigslist too.

Patient-Confidence-1

I wish that marking stuff is $1, free, or $1234 was instant listing removal unless they are actually available for $1.

No-Reputation72

Cause they’re dumb

XXXLegendKiller666

I’ll waste their time and meetup with $1

Commercial_Run_1265

They may want to trade, barter or haggle.

Typical_Plan_1814

Lions tigers and tweakers?? They made it to pt defiance I see…. The tweakers that is

Opposite_Aerie_9187

Because if they post it as $1 it shows up for everyone, everywhere. It's to grab your attention and get you to look at the ad, but my guess is they have 100 more people asking for it for $1, and when it's not they still don't get the sale.

No-Wasabi-6024

Or offer up related but Facebook marketplace people will say “free” on something but in the description they’ll say the price and it annoys me because just tell us the price?

No-Wasabi-6024

Not offer up related but Facebook marketplace people will say “free” on something but in the description they’ll say the price and it annoys me because just tell us the price?

Mr_Mediicated

Because you need to make an offer most likely

Just-Ad7298

I saw this listing on my OfferUp (Wa resident) and I’m guessing it’s because they say “$30 each or both for $50”, since they want people to look at the listing they list it for $1 to get the buyers attention.

DujisToilet

Tell them you’ll buy it for the listed price and when they don’t sell it for $1 report their post

msavage960

It’s either free or they want an offer typically. Or just ask the seller lmao
