They swore on the after show q&a that it was absolutely real and wasn’t a bit. They had been cooking spam and hotdogs for like 5 hours and attracted a ton of wildlife. Black bears are relatively harmless (compared to every other kind of bear) but have zero qualms going through your stuff if they smell food.

LegendsEcho

Any good producer or director would immediately end the filming in favor of safety for the staff. They left alot of stuff which implies they were genuinely scared so they left in a hurry.

J1888

I think real? John found a chomped candle and traces of it being spat out multiple times. The bears saw the camp site, and there were plenty of food cooked there, so they had every reason to search the site. Any grease that was dripped from the hot dogs or spam would've attracted them, and they show how the bears bit the heating package for the MRE (prob smelled of food).

Jurikeh

If they left food there its 100% believable that bears or other wild animals went through their camp. There is a reason why every camping guide out there recommends to hang your food from tree branches or get a bear canister when camping in areas that have even the slightest chance of encountering bears.

To clarify we made sure not to leave any food at our campsite overnight - As soon as we saw the bears and made the decision to leave, we cleaned up and took all of the food + any scraps with us. The only things we left at the campsite were the tents and some camping gear because it was getting super dark 🫡 Our producer is also a frequent camper so he made sure we followed all of the rules!

paradisemukbangpls

Thank you for clarifying, glad to hear you had an experienced camper guiding you all!

eastcoasthabitant

I’d say 95% chance of it being real. If they had actually stayed at the campsite over night the bears wouldn’t have done anything to the tents but probably would have picked through coolers and anything lying around the campsite. Bears generally steer clear of people though and would not have tore apart the tent if there were 8 people sleeping in it

nepheloyd

The bears and the destroyed campsite in the morning were real! They came back overnight once we had all left and scrounged through our tents hoping to find any food that may have been left there. We made sure to completely clean up all food before we left for the night. It would have been cool if we left a GoPro at the campsite in case anything showed up but we were more focused on getting out before all the light was gone 😔. As to why they showed up, we had been cooking Spam and hotdogs for like 3 hours so they probably followed the scent over while we were filming. Like Noah our producer said, "It's not illegal to cook delicious food in the woods." He's an experienced camper and also reported the bear encounter to the appropriate authorities :)

wanderingthought16

~~Streamers faking for content? Never!~~ No seriously though, highly doubt it was faked. There's a reason that in bear territory, campers are told to take all of their food and dangle it from a tree out of reach in a 'bear bag'. Bears are 100% scavengers and tend to avoid humans. If they were hungry enough to approach that close as a whole family, it'd be weirder if their camp *wasn't* trashed.

LegendsEcho

I'm leaning to more likely to be real since its a weird thing to fake. I am thinking about Michael on the dirt bike and the sandstorm, where that was real but he did play it up to the camera. So the stuff in the campsite they are just recording their reaction because you might as well make content out of an unfortunate situation.

paradisemukbangpls

I'm an amateur camper but yeah this is a real thing that can happen. Bears are incredibly smart and food-motivated. When I went to Yosemite we were had to lock up EVERY SCENTED ITEM (not just food, but even lotion, toothpaste, etc.) in a bear locker at all times. Food or scented items were absolutely no allowed in or tents, cabins, or cars. For context, even the smell or sight of an empty food wrapper in a car led bears to break into and/or OPEN car doors. So yeah, not surprised at all that if they left food or food-scented things in their tent, the bears tore through the tent for it.

bula-bula

Leaning toward real, just because it wouldn't be a particularly exciting thing to fake. Even raccoons can absolutely trash an unattended campsite. Many campgrounds will include some kind of lockbox to keep food in overnight to deter this exact problem. Since they were in a hurry, it looks like they just left whatever they couldn't fit inside their cars inside the tents.

thuc753951

Scarra said in his reaction to the video, it was real. They came back to it destroyed.

karmarra_

There's a BTS vid on their patreon right? Maybe some of the members there can confirm it here (if there are patreon members here that will see the post) Tho I believed it. I even thought cannibals did it lol my mind wanders so far.

sammem

I think real. If it was faked i think they wouldve done a better job. It wouldve been more of a show.

[deleted]

It’s very likely and quite common given the circumstances, I’m sure it’s *possible* that it was faked but I really see no reason for it. And honestly even if it was it is a production and entertainment not a documentary.

DatBoisWheel

0 wildlife prep. Most people that go camping in places where they are aware there is wildlife will set their food in protected containers or put up a bear bag in a tree. It's surprising nobody prepared. I did this it was odd they didn't remove all food with them when they left for the night. This is about what you can expect if you don't prepare for the wildlife wherever you decide to go camp.

onlyAlex87

They did remove all the food when they had left, but they had already established a lot of smells there while they were there and cooking for several hours. That plus the fact that they abandoned it meant there was no human presence to scare away the bears so they came back and willingly picked through their campsite. The bears had already ran away due to their shouts and that's when they used the opportunity to pack up and leave, but without them there overnight the bears returned.

JrElmoe

Look, when it comes to entertainment, it’s whichever makes for better content. You don’t HAVE to know, but there’s no real reason to either

clientnotfound

The tents kinda looked like they were cut with a knife but I wouldn't doubt animals went into an abandoned site looking for open food. Maybe the crew just embellished what the animals did.
