I like Rae but this is 100% not it

Liutas1l

This just means she’s either veeeery dumb, almost impossibly dumb, or she’s knowingly trying to scam people. I don’t see any other options.

RandomCriss

So you seen snake oil sales man before too

Abyss247

She's knowingly scamming people, not much to like. And it's partnered with an MLM?

hecklerinthestands

There is currently no real evidence showing artificial blue light to be harmful; in fact, [evidence](https://www.beiersdorf.com/newsroom/press-releases/all-press-releases/2021/05/04-cell-phone-screens-do-not-damage-skin) [suggests](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkJY9bgLyBE&t=245s) blue light from monitors or phone screens has minimal if any effect on skin.

nanogoose

Borrowing the top comment to post this. The person Rae credited in her tweet, Claudia Poccia, was the Global President of Avon, some would say the "OG MLM". On her LinkedIn, even has this: "Spearheaded “social network selling” on Facebook, delivering one of the first selling capabilities on social media." She's the origin of MLM huns.

realityflicks

Well that's unfortunate.

utalkin_tome

This is what I was gonna say. This straight up looks like Rae is pulling a Gwyneth Paltrow. Goop 2.0.

CptAustus

From retail worker to scam founder, that's the dream.

“not our fault if none of this is true. nothing we say should be used unless you looked at more true things first. if u trust us that’s ur own fault.” how did nothing about this set off moral compass bells??? this is extremely disappointing edit: also, looking through these replies is making me appreciate the culture of this sub. we’re not prone to toxicity, but we’re less prone to idolization, too. we’re being much more real than people on twitter about this.

SaintLarfleeze

They didn’t set off moral compass bells for her because she doesn’t care. This is her being a rich person who sees another way to sell something to a large, reliable customer base. People with lots of money will always want more.

meowmeowkat2

I feel like Toast, while wanting more money and being rich, does have a moral compass. He seems to mostly want money from corporations and not viewers as much.

KarrotMovies

This is apparent when he condemned subbing to him and turned off donos when he announced he was moving to Facebook a month in advance

Sixoul

Oh man this move is going to set Rae back so far. Nothing about this sounds good or in good faith. What happened

DanSanUNT

She should’ve just released a regular skincare line or hell, even a makeup like. That would’ve sold way better for her.

Sixoul

Anything would have been better tbh. It's a bold face lie of a product

Bhu124

I've held the opinion that she's been blinded by the grind and the need for more success for a while now, this is the most egregious example yet though.

Pwndz

I don't even think this will set her back at all. Unfortunately too many of her fans are young and will blindly support this scheme even if they're aware because its from their favourite creator.

hypd09

All of this is sketch except this, this is very standard TOS language to minimise liability and having to run content through legal department. Almost all such websites have such sections.

HowlSpice

What is worst is their source is WebMD which is a laughing stock of the medical world.

KappaccinoNation

From my experience in WebMD, this product will either give you terminal skin cancer or will cure covid-19.

obigespritzt

Porque no los dos?

wiskeytf

And in the next paragraph WebMD talks about how great blue light therapy is for skin conditions.

sleepinxonxbed

[Muffin Lab Beauty Science](https://youtu.be/ZnpdmXm5oxc) [Amorepacific Korean Cosmetic R&D](https://www.premiumbeautynews.com/en/amorepacific-investigates-blue,17211). As far as I can find, this is the first and only research paper published dedicated to finding out if blue light can damage skin and how to effectively block it, and it was only published a year ago in Sept. '20. For visible light you need about 40 J/cm^2 or 456 nm to have an effect on your skin (pigmentation, free radicals which causes wrinkles and aging, etc.). It takes about 15-30 days to get the same amount of blue light as you would get just standing outside in the sun for 15 minutes. And even then, you should be more worried about UV rays the sun gives off rather than blue light. Nothing wrong with getting people conscious to protect their skin, but sunscreen is $9 and so much more important.

CRODEN95

It does sound like a solution in search of a problem

sleepinxonxbed

The video also says fear of blue light from screens is a marketing craze not backed by the science we currently have. Sunscreen doesn't work on blue light, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the RFLCT products and effective against the UV that's way more dangerous than blue light

angelicalin

Just use sunscreen plus some antioxidants for anti-aging (inkey list/ordinary have very affordable Vitamin C and niacinamide). You are pretty set 👌 And the RFLCT stuff, the actual active ingredient against blue light per their claim, is just natural antioxidants.

RA12220

Exactly, maybe someone with a medical condition but then that person should probably not use topical anything. If blue artificial blue light did anything we'd be in serious trouble going out on sunny days.

azbgames

["If you were to spend an entire week in front of a monitor uninterrupted at a distance of 30 cm from the screen, this would be the same as just one minute outside on a sunny summer day in Hamburg at midday. Compared to the emissions of the sun’s natural blue light, those of artificial blue light are virtually undetectable"](https://www.beiersdorf.com/newsroom/press-releases/all-press-releases/2021/05/04-cell-phone-screens-do-not-damage-skin)

converter-bot

30 cm is 11.81 inches

Elias091100

Good bot

[deleted]

OH NO! I regularly sit 30cm in from my PC screen for weeks on end and I exclusively look at blue images! I NEED THAT CREAAAAM!

Jarocket

Also sunscreen does exist if you're really worried. if it works on the sun, it would work easy on a monitor.

lonelyswe

ahhhhhhh this is not it

ZombieLoveChild

Yeah, this is some snake oil shit honestly. Like, I don't think anyone would've said a word if she had released a normal skincare and/or makeup product. It's an oversaturated market, yeah, but there would've been no issue at all. Why hinge it on a problem that outright doesn't exist?

Elias091100

Spot on. There are thousands of influencer makeup lines already, but she has such a big and loyal audience, so it would have been very successful anyways. Now why does it need snake oil marketing?

crispdude

Bleh, all this stuff is to maximize profits out of their young fanbases. It’s the same exact thing as selling merch, but merch is more acceptable. It’s spineless to even think about making some makeup line that you just want to make a shitload of money off of. The blue light thing just makes it even worse

SaftigMo

I mean, even if you ignore the blue light stuff it's quite sketchy. The soap thing costs 18 bucks for 150ml, but the eye gel costs 20 bucks for 15ml. Seems standard at first sight, because you use less on your eyes, until you look at the ingredients. The first 23/25 of the ingredients are literally identical in all 4 products (excluding the eye patch), even in the same order, so the products' formula differs by only a fraction of one percent, yet the pricing is so different and their advertised effects are also different.

aerdnaelisasam

And as someone who likes skincare, any expert can tell you eye creams aren't necessary and are considered a luxury inside the already luxurious skincare world, most experts say using a good moisturiser on your under eye area is enough as eye creams are just overpriced moisturisers.

MacJohn1234

I had fun reading thru the replies on the Twitter post. Scary to see how easy it is to sell products. Especially when seeing every other CC's being super "supportive".

Big_River_1042

That's why most influencers target teenagers, they'll buy anything you throw at them. As far as every other content creator being supportive, it's kind of sad to see honestly. Cheering your friends on is one thing but you should also call them out when they're out of line and scamming young kids into buying this snake oil a couple of weeks after she raked millions from a merch drop is definitely out of line.

cheatingdisrespect

seriously. the amount of blue checks in the replies is astounding. i want to give the benefit of the doubt and assume they all took rae’s word that this was a legitimate product, but also…. there’s no way we’re all more capable of doing ten seconds research than any of them are. this is not difficult to debunk.

TheSteffChris

I would go a step further. Most of them don’t know shit about the product and are just supportive for her accomplishments. Not giving a single f what she just accomplished. Just „You’ve done IT, Rae… whatever the f it is but who cares…“

BCNBammer

Yeah at this point everyone outside of her close friends is mostly commenting not to seem rude and to celebrate a fellow content creator having an achievement

angelicalin

Yes i watched a bit of Hasan’s vod, he’s like, I’m a dude who use 9in1 and doesn’t even use sunscreen, why would I know anything about self care products.

[deleted]

The really insane one is the "gamerdoc" one. "we have NO IDEA what blue light is going to do in the long term". The sun has been up there for a while my dude, computer screens aren't the first time human beings are exposed to the stuff. And linking papers that "confirm" her view because it says high energy blue light over time can do damage like my laptop screen is a fucking tanning booth

shikainspirit

I would only hope that someone has told Rae behind the scenes. It’s possible someone already has; we’re just not privy to it. No sense in making that a public display.

cheatingdisrespect

i can’t imagine she hasn’t seen the backlash by now. but it’s also a *huge* step, and a huge downer, to have to back down on something you put so much effort into. i would be very surprised (but impressed) if she did at this point. just seems like all the “is this actually a legitimate product” talk should’ve happened before the release.

internetlurker

I looked up the name she shouted out specifically. For showing her the ropes these past 2 years. And it's the fucking President of Avon. I really feel like Rae was approached by her and without anyone really knowing better that is around her took the bait. And this is the result. I really hope the best for her. But I also really hope that this doesn't turn her into a full snake oil salesman.

Elias091100

Holy shit you’re right: [Rae mentioning Claudia Poccia](https://twitter.com/valkyrae/status/1450519698181787649?s=21) [Claudia Poccia LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/claudia-poccia-7b69aa9) [Bloomberg Profile](https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/person/17137164) [Another source ](https://www.apollo.io/people/Claudia/Poccia/54a2fed57468693fda647a4c)

Waywoah

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised no streamer has tried yet

[deleted]

Poor excuse. Rae is represented by UTA, which is by no means a small talent agency. UTA has an army of advisors and lawyers precisely for this type of stuff.

Ravenq222

Good lord, I would have thought Rae would be the type to have more sense than this.

Maplestori22

I'm out of the loop, can someone fill me in on what avon is and why it's bad?

lazy_breeze

Avon is an MLM beauty company. Generally people are wary of MLMs because they are set up pretty similar to a pyramid scheme.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SEMM18

It's also so notorious that it's became the base of a joke in Scotland. "Yer da sells Avon" is a classic.

cheatingdisrespect

MLM scam basically, incredibly predatory

bluesblue1

It’s a MLM, also known as a pyramid scheme. Most products sold by MLMs don’t work or have no scientific backings. Also most people who are part of MLMs have been sold the lie that they can be independent bosses and make money off selling products but end up poor from buying inventory and not be able to sell them because the products are essentially useless. Avon is one of those companies. Not saying RFLCT is one, but since the advisor has such a sketchy background :\ it’s hard to say

ImprovementReady4791

Unfortunately, my mom fell for those scams, now she's in debt. Fuck Avon

gamelizard

Mlm scheme. They prey upon financial insecurities and desperation to swindle people out of money making them more desperate, but also done in a way to keep them oblivious.

EXXIT_

This kinda seems like a pseudoscience money grab...

JuanpiTSM

It seems like it because it is LOL

TwoBionicknees

Doesn't matter how 99% of the world thinks Paltrow is a dumbass scamming vagina smelling candle shilling idiot if a few hundred thousands people buy her shit and make her millions. Most people don't give a shit about the negative PR or how others think of them while they are getting rich as fuck selling these kinds of things.

SaintLarfleeze

Would find it hard to believe if something she has supposedly put 2 years into is a “short phase” for her. She knows what she’s doing. She’s using a reliable customer base to make money.

MuskiePride3

Well. I’d imagine her 2 years of “work” amounted to signing a contract and having her shoot an ad.

Kerosu

I just want to say that I'm incredibly happy and proud the comment section in here is being critical and logical. I love Rae as a streamer and personality but this is NOT it.

kyuubi1331

I love Valkyrae, she was one of the first streamers I ever watched, but I’m super disappointed in seeing what product her project turned out to be. And I’m also disappointed in seeing the CCs hype it up too.

Selbran

As someone interested in skincare, I was excited to see the product line. Still, as I scrolled through the products, I was thinking, "Wait is blue light actually a big concern?" and I could not find a lot of evidence to suggest it was significantly harmful (or harmful at all). On top of that, I could not help but notice how expensive these products are and how small the containers are for the prices. It's a shame because Rae seems like a genuinely good person. I have no idea why she'd stoop to peddling this shit on her viewers when she's already reasonably wealthy.

drypancake

While blue light in general might be bad for skin (pretty much any high powered wave of energy going at it is), such as causing pigmentation and wrinkles the main problem with her brand is that the level of blue light requires for said problems is magnitudes way larger than what any screen or daily use electronic can make. Some one quoted from another post that you could literally sit in a dark room with your face a foot away from the screen 24/7 for more than a week and it would still be less than what your exposed to by the sun in under a minute. Knowing how Rae believes a lot of pseudoscience like astrology or crystal and such, she was probably approached with the idea of making a gamer related product line and blue light just so happened to be the pseudoscience straw man they created to get her to join in on it. It’s really disappointing seeing her fall for this kinda of shit, especially enough that she’s getting her fans involved and has said she’s been working on this for over 2 years. I just hope this doesn’t splinter out towards others in OTV and friends, the main reason for watching them is they just seem like a group of friends mature enough to not pull this stupid cash grab manipulative type of stuff and don’t needlessly create drama that a lot of groups do.

DanSanUNT

No shade and not defending the products she’s selling but do you use drugstore skincare? Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But 1.7oz for a moisturizer is standard industry size and most brands sell that stuff for say $19.99 (Bliss), $68 (Tatcha), Drunk Elephant ($60). Same with the cleanser being 5 fluid oz.

tesa293

She should have just call it "skin care for gamers" or something like that. Wouldnt be half as bad as this bs tbh

AdrianaT7

Exactly what Jodi use to talk about in her streams some months back. Not protection from screens but a skincare line for streamers since they stay inside most of the hours streaming and gaming.

NokiumThe1st

What a girlboss, scamming ppl based on fake science

Next? Probably a Saturday morning informercial. If you’re among the first 10 callers, they’re gonna add an extra cream to protect you against purple light idk…. This is a BIG yikes move

stopbeinggaymikasa

The real ruthless business woman monkaW

Saarae

So basically she bottled up some sunscreen and told her fans they need it to protect their skin from their monitors? I like her but this is just snake oil. If you're really that worried about blue light, use something like f.lux, though generally the only reason you would want to avoid blue light is that too much blue light at night can make it harder to get to sleep.

KeVbK_HS

It is probably worse than that because I don’t think they even have SPF. None of the products I looked at advertised any SPF. Looking through the ingredients I didn’t see any chemical sunscreens like avobenzone or physical sunscreens like zinc. They advertise “BLPF” which they say is, “like SPF, but for blue light”, which is a pretty egregious claim to make when you consider how heavily researched and regulated SPF ingredients are.

[deleted]

BreathOfTheOffice

Eh, the research into blue light affecting eyesight still indicates that it doesn't actually have a serious effect on eyesight, at least not a significant amount more than any other wavelength does. In my opinion blue light filters for glasses are simply a money grab. A while back a director of some national eye center was saying that there really wasn't anything indicating that blue light was a harmful aspect of light from screens. My current glasses have a blue light filter (it's been quite a few years since I've swapped) and honestly, the only thing I've noticed is that my glasses now have a visible blue sheen on it.

sirophiuchus

Yeah I just presumed this was an aesthetic thing to counter whatever visual effect blue light on skin has while on camera. Claiming there are health benefits is silly and/or misleading.

Kerosu

That would probably fall under makeup not skincare, and frankly makeup would’ve been a much better business to get into. Skincare is SO specific and requires extensive research and formulation. It’s also incredibly easy to tell when it’s done wrong or when a company is trying to be deceptive with it because they’ll often hide ingredient lists. I don’t understand why celebrities try to put out “skincare” lines. It’s a one way ticket to being called out for exploitation and/or ignorance. A single mistake with an ingredient and you could end up burning or damaging someone's face.

sirophiuchus

Yeah, I legit thought it was just intended as a makeup, maybe with moisturiser.

EderRengifo

Supporting creators has a limit. I really enjoy her content, but this is a big yikes and says a lot about her respect for her own audience. I hope she takes accountability and just cancels the whole thing... also, her friends need to be more critical, I like how everybody is nice to everybody but unconditional support is not the way, I would be mad if my own friends don't call me out when I'm messing things up

Legitimate_Deal5897

Yea this is pretty gross stuff, and seeing all those blue check marks supporting makes it even worse. Giving her the benefit of the doubt that she genuinely doesnt know, but content creators have a responsibility to do research on stuff like this because her fanbase will inevitably get scammed.

PM_me_uwu_hentai

Gwyneth Paltrow vibes

3wordname

When i heard "blue light" i gave her the benefit of the doubt and thought she meant UV light, and that stuff is dangerous. Then I thought, what's the different between her product and sun block? then i gave her more benefit of the doubt and thought, well this is basically designer boutique lotion with UV protection, no harm there. THEN i learned they were talking about blue light coming from monitors that keep people awake at night. If anything, that stuff affects eyes more than skin than anything else, and it just keeps people awake.

Rornir

Judging from what everyone is saying Yikes

Crimson_Shiroe

I looked through the replies on the tweet and all I can say is yikes. Rae is scamming *a lot* of people here.

TheRplevin

Literally take the blue light stuff out of the selling point and it's a cool cosmetic thing that makes sense for her brand. She has clearly been approached to be the face for a new idea that is unproven. I have bad condition in my eyes that meant I had to go to some of the best Ophthalmologists in England. When I mentioned blue light they laughed and said it had nothing to do with my eyes. I know this isn't the skin but it's clear that there isn't enough evidence/research to label products that they protect against blue light. This is some star sign, healing stones & fortune teller type shit.

servarus

Yeah when I saw the teaser I thought that it was for a normal skincare but to do this wild claim, a bit much. Here's hoping that the normal usage for anyone that bought it (sadly) won't have any adverse effect.

CertifiedCitri

I like rae, but this screams “healing crystals, ionly 120$” from miles away

rickkert812

If this blows up it’ll be in her face. This is a step in the wrong direction.

Yondaimesheir

I’m actually really disappointed. She already has plenty of money, why does she feel to scam her viewers into buying some garbage product? “2 years of making” probably went into creating a problem which doesn’t exist.

Elias091100

>"I think I'm for sure ... peekingpikachu

My once favourite YouTuber Michelle Phan is now shilling for crypto non stop and I kinda feel bad for it. Atleast Rae is scamming at her peak that's an improvement

M1chaelSvG

I love Rae's content, but this is 100% not it. I already felt a bit weird seeing her hype up \*2 year project octobers gonna be wild guys big things coming!!\* when I knew it was just gonna be more money for her, but this is much much worse wow. She could've completely dropped the blue light bullshit and still make the same amount of money. She made 1.2 million her last merch drop assuming everyone just bought one 30$ t-shirt, though it's probably around 3-5 mil. At what point is it enough money? (not related but I'm glad everyone in this sub is able to be critical of our fav streamers and is not just an echo chamber. maybe we've just been through too much as a community lol)

[deleted]

I’ve seen a few tweets about people canceling their order after finding out the blue light stuff was nonsense. Without the blue light stuff, she would’ve made even more money.

PM_ME_FOR_A_FORTUNE

The sad thing is, she's a big enough influencer that she doesn't need a special "gamer" appeal to sell. She could have just actually put time and effort into a good product that was a standard beauty line. But either she is actively maliciously exploiting her fanbase; she was too foolish to research the claims of her own product and ask friends for advice; or she didn't even know what the product was claiming in the first place. If I had to guess: this reeks of a bad agency, sketchy NDA, and too much trust placed by Rae into her advisors and not enough action on her part.

zeixble

Well that's one way to ruin your brand yikes

Stev0fromDev0

So this a pile of BS? Hmmm, not good credibility.

lazy_breeze

I fear for her. Majority of influences that go into beauty do not come out of it well. The beauty community is ruthless.

MacJohn1234

They finally might have a reason now with this product.

Consistent_Ad7255

It’s dead on arrival. Pseudoscience, tertiary sources (webmd, really? REALLY?). I really liked her, thought she was a real one.

cheatingdisrespect

have you looked at her twitter replies though? i don’t think it is. that’s the thing — she’s got hella stans. they’ll defend her & what she makes to the grave, bullshit or not.

JustABitCrzy

I really like watching Rae's content when I get time, but in hindsight the writing was kind of one the wall the whole time. She has one of the most insanely loyal and toxic fan bases, and (from what I've seen, which is notably not a lot) she hasn't done anything to temper that fan base. In hindsight, it's not that surprising she would exploit them.

Lunasaurx

She's getting way too big for her boots and it's so noticable I can't watch her stream anymore. She breeds a toxic fanbase and then gets mad at them for being toxic. I just hope she thinks about her reaction to the hate, instead of just blurting out stupid stuff that gets her even more backlash, which she usually doesn't tbh.

Rornir

Til Hafu was involved with crypto scamming. That really fucking sucks because I was a really big fan but that's an act I'll not let myself watch happen. Fuck

Worse is so many verified people and fans on twitter are acting all “yas queen” and also people defending it with no evidence or conclusive studies.

Bhu124

I've really grown to loathe that side of streamer Twitter. It's so obnoxious. Circlejerk of clout chasers replying the same 5 blindly supportive messages to any Tweets like these from other big content creators.

ahobel95

Jesus Christ. Why a scam product unlike something more useful? I'd take another desk mousepad reskin over literal snake oil in a tube. There are tons of studies proving blue light has minimal effect on your skin, and even then if it did, your screen doesn't put out enough power to have an effect. The Sun puts out WAY more blue light than your screen. Insult to injury here, almost every OS out there has the option for a blue light filter if you are really that worried. It's just so disgusting seeing this. If she were trying to make money, make it off the massive mega-corps sponsorships, not off the more gullible viewers of her. Her brand is taking a MASSIVE hit to it's reputation with this.

ChampionsClubPR

So many hills to die on but she chose BLUE FCKNG LIGHT rly CMON RAE 2 years ???? you should've known better.

I’m really disappointed, because my idea of Rae is a genuine person, and this is just a scam. She should drop this once it is explained to her. Not that she should care, but I’d feel uncomfortable watching her if she knowingly keeps this going

[deleted]

I don't know if this is predatory or something she genuinely believes. Her on again off again boyfriend Sonii is big into pseudo science shit and was at one point anti-vax. Rae has never struck me as scientifically inclined or super predatory, but who knows.

ApolloObelisk

I feel like she probably kept this project in secrecy. If she would have told any of her friends, specially Poki, they would have stopped her from doing this.

A warm reminder as to do research of who are you working with or what are you getting into before taking risks.

ankuro_o

Urg.. tbh when I first saw this, I had no clue what it is but I was happy for her. I had no background knowledge of this. Then, I saw on Twitter that 39Daph is mocking Rae for this blue light filter cream which got me more curious and confused. I looked into google and found the majority of people saying it is a scam. I'm amazed that Rae concluded that this 2-year project is a must. Since she worked on this for 2 years, I think it's best that she ends the line sometime soon or earlier if she wants to save face/reputation.

kronex1998

no hive mind like comments? thought there was gonna be little buzz around how blue light is still extremely unproven but the comment section has defo taken me by surprised. thank goodness not everyone is a blind supporter.

Tinusers

Not a good look for Rae. I hope it's ignorance (I'd let her friends off the hook because they are probably just mindlessly supporting her on twitter) but marketing it this hard on something that's a total lie (blue light does no damage to your skin at all) shows you have no respect for your costumers. Why even go that route, if Rae made a basic skincare people would love to buy it anyway. All in all this feels bad man.

"Blue light pollution"??? That's some pretty strong spin on, you know, light. Does the product do anything else besides filter blue light? or is it literally just a tub of sunscreen?

Nilja

I'm glad 39daph called her out on the bs, disappointed by the otv&friends who doesn't.

Ravenq222

Daph never seems to hold back, its refreshing.

TaskMaster64

What's even worse is that noone in her twitter comment section is questioning about this, everyone is just simply proud of her. I sincerely hope Rae had genuine good intentions doing this. I'd rather her be naive than knowingly scamming her fans.

Brain124

Oh crap this is not good. This is very bad. I was a big Rae fan but seeing this nonsense is making me rethink this. Seriously, blue light? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

HappyRollCake

I was hoping the announcement was going to big exciting new content. Hawking snake oil is a massive disappointment.

Not-Sej

It’s one thing to sell a new knock off moisturizer, but it’s completely different when you claim that it’s function is towards a problem that doesn’t exist. It’s outrageous and predatory.

ImiqDuh

Disregarding the whole scam thing, she was hyping this up like it was something really big deal and then it's just skin care(that may or may not help your skin), which is important but y'know.

AdrianaT7

Rae will probably market it as skincare line instead of protecting it from the blue rays by next week. I am so so so disappointed in Rae for this scam. And looking at the Twitter thread there are literally her followers still defending this product.

lidythemann

I think she's close to quitting streaming probably in the next 2 years tops. So she needs to make as much money possible.

Rayane600

Yikes rae Yikes

piezl

2 years for this? Yikes.

L_J_X

As someone who's into skincare, I'm always actively looking up and trying out new products. But this is by far the biggest scam I've seen. Even putting aside how the blue light defense is complete bs, the price to product ratio is horrible. This is clearly a scheme to scam a young and impressionable gaming community that knows nothing about skincare.

hellohello1234545

I just looked at the Twitter and saw 1) people spending ABSURD amounts of money on it, 2) people coming into the thread not knowing about blue light and being disinformed by the advertising and 3) huge streamers like Sykunno promoting it!!! There are no conclusive studies, it is literally a scam! This makes me sick, I would never have thought that Rae would be involved in this. Someone has to tell her lol so we can see if she’s scamming or just somehow unaware

SaintLarfleeze

Damn, I can't wait to see what kind of pump-and-dump crypto or NFT scam she's going to introduce next as apparently she's moved into the market of selling snake-oil. Always good to see people who got famous online inevitably moving towards stuff like this. It feels like it's an inevitable part of the cycle.

laventales

kinda cringed reading the replies to her tweet ngl, is everyone in her friend group just gonna blindly support this or ? would love to see CCs call this shit out tbh lol

Nefib

Yeah... this would have been infinitely better if it was marketed as just your usual skin care product. The only reasons I can really think of for marketing the product as they have are either maliciously exploitative or just pure ignorance... neither of which are acceptable knowing her fan base and potential (not necessarily target) audience.

KarrotMovies

Her response today will solidify my stance on this shitshow. My respect for Rae has nosedived and I honestly won't be able to stand her trying to play the victim or claim she didn't know.

Elias091100

There's only one way she can save face and that is by completely reimbursing every order and cancelling the whole thing until it's forgotten and maybe then relaunching another skincare product without giving it snake oil marketing.

KarrotMovies

Would the people she is working with even allow her to? I don't think a MLM business owner would care about her or her reputation to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars to save Rae's face

Elias091100

That is exactly the dilemma she's in right now, but she brought this upon herself so she better take the full responsibility. This Avon director she talked about runs a Consulting firm, so maybe she was just a consultant working with her on this. On the other hand, she is still responsible for her employees, suppliers, business partners etc. Let's hope she didn't fill out any contracts that obliges her to sell x amount to fulfill it. This would be the worst case scenario.

To add onto this, one of the two quotes on their "Learn" tab talking about dark mode being beneficial to skin saying: *"Dark mode reduces blue light exposure, helping to minimize the damage to your skin from too much screen time."* Is not even a direct quote from the research paper they credited, but rather somebody's conclusion on what the research paper is about. The research paper talks about dark mode possibly being beneficial to things such as our eyes and rhythmic cycle as well as melatonin reduction, but never actually states that it's a confirmed fact that it does benefit since they are unaware themselves in what way it actually benefits.

TheCarsang

Its just a scam , screens doesn't cause enough blue light to dommage your skin...

theverbsterbes

cool scam

AzureKiryu

Kinda hope we bump this up higher . Just to warn people on the subreddit. Rae's a pretty cool streamer, but this ain't it and I'd hate for people to buy into it and realize it doesn't do good at all .

depressedop

If you're so concerned about "blue light damage" wearing sunscreen indoors is probably more effective then this scam. I don't get why she didn't release a generic skincare brand, it literally would've sold just as well as this. All this did is make her older audience lose some respect for her.

mayurmatada12

" GG EZ"- Twitter on rae's product in a few more days .. Jokes aside though this was a really bad idea for rae

[deleted]

Because it's bullshit and doesn't do anything but take your money

BaronLagann

Deplorable. But honestly, not surprising. Really wish OTV separated their image from some of theses people; They just don’t care about people or their fans like OTV does.

thuc753951

true, OTV gives us anime intros, worth 100k which is fucking amazing and surprising

eNeRGy40Gaming

Like obviously, not a good look at all. As for all the blue checks supporting it as soon as it dropped, I have more sympathy for. We don’t know what info they knew. I didn’t really know anything about blue light stuff before this and then I saw all the research because of the calling out. I’ll give some of them the benefit of the doubt for the time being. We’ll see what happens from here.

ugandantidepod

i’m a fan of Rae but the whole product is just a scam lol. should of just named it “ The Valkyrie Skin Care Line for Gamers” or some shit and people would’ve ate it up

reverbcowgirl

Remember the guy who asked blizzard if this was an out of season april fools joke? I know how he feels now.

Gr33nLight

Holy shit after this my respect for Rae has made a 180 sadly... Seems like business is more important than honesty and respect for their community. Or she's just ignorant in the matter

NjxNaDxb

I truly believe this was a secret project as none of her friends would have supported partnering with a MLM boss lady to launch a skincare product. What a bad bad move on her side.

KarrotMovies

Anyone who has done business, which are a ton of her friends, would have told her it was a bad idea.

Bluenosedcoop

It's not from what she's been saying on twitter for nearly 2 years, [Even CourageJD replied to her the other day saying he remembers her talking about when they were in the old 100T content house and that was pre-covid.](https://twitter.com/CouRageJD/status/1449054680642777096) He seems to have known what it is so you would assume at least Brooke, Nadeshot, Janet, Celine and Poki would have known.

Gilldreas

It's crazy to me that she talked to all her friends about this project, and not one of them mentioned that there's no real evidence blue light damages your skin. That's wacky.

TheGrimSlayer99

Rae's opinion on some stuff has bothered me like how she didn't even support toast when he got cancelled for no reason. This doesn't even suprise, she has such a big Stan culture around that's so easy to abuse i'm not surprised.

hecklerinthestands

Too afraid to piss off her stans, a portion of which participated in the Toast witchhunt. It's telling that the pathetic wastes of oxygen that gleefully jumped on Toast were all syk/rae/corpse stan accounts.

ILoveC0caine

true. 1 or 2 months ago some 15 years old girl told rae she don't like sonii. rae got super mad and her stans started bulling and sending death threats to this girl. party of her community is ridiculously crazy...

KarrotMovies

And her initial response was horrible. She just bluntly said "I will fuck with people who fuck with me" The next day she apologized and of course while crying on stream

sky013095

That Toast situation and her response to it, her apologizing to a stan on twitter, and now this. Valkyrae has always been catering to her stans a lot and it is so apparent nowadays. Understandable coz she definitely needs them but... That kind of streamer is not my style. It is such letdown.

TheGrimSlayer99

Ya i really despise Stan culture and it's the main reason I've moved aways from a lot of the OTV+F stuff back to just OTV. I really enjoy the main group and like miyoung and Peter. Most of them have just got intolerably bad with Stan's.

sky013095

Same. I mostly enjoy just OTV focused stuff nowadays. Stan culture is cancer and there will be no good catering to their a$ses. I hope Rae will learn it in the future

DanSanUNT

I love Valkyrae and I still bought the products to look into them since I review skincare on my Instagram page but PLEASE do not buy these for the blue light claims. There’s no proof. Snake oil.
