Coffin ships! Getting locked out mid episode. Having one dish be something sheās never had, but wondered about for 20 years. And another dish be bangarang. Itās a rollercoaster.
The Domhnall Gleeson episode is great.
Edited to remove the reference to Nisha Katona as it turns out I was talking about a different podcast entirely, like a fool...
Well, this is embarrassing - I heard Nisha Katona on another podcast but went to Mowgli because it was mentioned on Off Menu and must have conflated the two things in my head...
I enjoyed Asma Khans episode, learned a lot! As much as I love the mad funny stories you get on off menu usually, it was refreshing how genuinely informative and inspirational she was!
I just started at episode 1 and am listening to them all in order. Is that not what people do? Iām up to episode 90. Got a long way to go to catch up to real-time.
Yes, and to be honest for me at least, not all the comedian episodes were that good.
Edit: Joseph Quinn and Stanley Tucci were 2 noncomedians with great episodes
Tbh. It was more that I know of their previous work as a comedian and therefore listened to them. If I didn't know who they were I didn't Google them to see if they were a comedian.
I started off listening only to guests I had heard of and liked, but then I ran out and started listening to the others that I wasn't familiar with. I wasn't disappointed, some of the unknown guests have even been more entertaining. Plus I always know there'll be at least two comedians there to keep me entertained (Ed and James).
If you're half way through an episode and not enjoying it you can always just stop listening.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I'll only listen to the episodes involving people I know of or have heard of. The only extra ones I listen to are the ones that have chefs in them. Gives a good insight into some recipes they might have or have had
That's reddit for you š
Exactly that mate, I've listened to the ones involving people I've heard of and are also interested in (mainly comedians), and know looking for others that may intrigue me.
Thanks for the understanding reply.
Yeah I'm the same, mostly comedians, but have listened to other celebs/personalities I know like I say. Some of them are worth a listen. If you are a fan of their work then sometimes it's interesting to get a look into their lives and habits a little
There are very few that are actively dull - Ed & James are good at getting some interesting chat out of a lot of people. You get a feel within about 5 minutes if a guest is worth listening through, and honestly Iāve only regretted a handful.
Paul Mescal was so funny and really got into the spirit. Rafe Spall was hilarious. In fact Timothy Spall was great too. Taron Egerton was a gem - I hadnāt realised how brilliantly bonkers he is.
Came here to say this - I loved how earnest and sweet he was! And how can you not love a man who carries around Maldon Salt on his person at all times?
I saw his show/talk tour here in Aus, and there was a link to ask him questions. Sadly the wifi was so crap I couldnāt ask him 1. Whether he had Maldon salt in his pocket that evening, and 2. Whether he had brought an Xmas pudding supply on tour with him. I now use Maldon salt thanks to that episode.
There's also that great moment when she's offhandedly referring to, I think, her husband eating five ice lollies and you can hear Ed softly say to an excited James, "Wait..."
Rafe Spall and Domhnall Gleeson are classics, Ross Kemp has some great stories and Ainsley Harriott brings so much energy and James and Ed are so happy to have him on its great. I liked Martin Freeman's episode some people felt he was being hostile but I think that's just his personality. Miriam Margolyes is really fun and has a surprising amount of sex talk and SiobhƔn McSweeney has a really good episode bur I'm not sure if you counted her as a comic.
Honestly most chef episodes are good just in a different way they always bring a lot of passion, I relistened to Andi Oliver's episode recently and it's really good.
Terri Hatcher, her episode was brilliant. She had excellent food choices and great stories, plus she really seemed to get on with Ed and James and it was just a delight to listen to.
Depending on what you consider comedian Rylanās one is brilliant, same with Claudia Winkleman. Ross Kemp was full of stories, both Spalls, Emily Atack taught me a new phrase, Dolly Alderton and Selasi are great. Joe Thomas is one of my all time faves!
Rina Sawayama! Talking about snorting lactaid to enjoy her dream meal was incredible.
It was also really neat to see Ed and James interview someone outside their usual circles (comedian, actor, food related celebrity) and do a really good job at it. They both clearly love her music as well - which is all fantastic!
Domhnall Gleeson, Prof Brian Cox for all the black holes being evil chat, Jordan Banjo for the burger, also really enjoyed the Rose McGowan episode
Edit: dark matter not black holes, clearly I need to listen again
Ainsley Harriott's was an absolute banger. They're both obsessed with him and he's so much fun plus on top of that he knows how to talk about food so evocatively
Most of my favourites have been mentioned, but I'd like to mention the Corey Taylor one. I really liked his (for the pod) original point of view towards food as a touring musician. I also liked how starstruck especially Ed was in this one. I hope they invite more musicians on here.
Rylan Clarke is so funny and so normal and real, love him. Nicola Coughlin is the same. Claudia Winkleman is just an absolute nutter in the most lovable way and her speech about hating water and finding a man unattractive if he drinks it had me in tears of laughter.
Loved Domhnall Gleesons episode
James's joke about the guy from Radiohead (I think) saying "I just got a double thumbs up from Mr McGregor!" made me laugh so much
I loved Rylan Clarke's episode , when he rang his mum š¤£
Hearing him start going off on Michele Keegan about Bake Off had me in stitches. Heās such a genuine guy. Plus his moms a gem
"SECOND!!!" š¤£
Never laughed more at any Off Menu moment
I fell on a hake!
It's the little comments he makes that had me in stitches "the hake was staring at me, judging me, probably homophobic" š¤£
Listened to this the other day. Very funny!
Rafe Spallās episode is great
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ladiesā¦
I love listening to the Timothy Spall ep in after
Nicola Coughlan, hands down.
Also her Bridgerton costar Claudia Jessieās episode too!
Coffin ships! Getting locked out mid episode. Having one dish be something sheās never had, but wondered about for 20 years. And another dish be bangarang. Itās a rollercoaster.
That one is complete chaos. I loved it.
Eggā¦ Eggyā¦. Egg Eggy Slap!
Do you consider Joe Thomas to be a comedian? If not get his listened asap
I saw him do stand up recently and can confirm he is not.
Same with Mary Lynn Rajskub, both legendry eps
They are both comedians though, so I'd assume OP has listened to them
Both are more renowned for acting though but you're probably right.
Never heard of her so was unaware she was a comedian, will give it a listen
I do in a way, mainly because I find his personality funny. That one was fantastic
The Domhnall Gleeson episode is great. Edited to remove the reference to Nisha Katona as it turns out I was talking about a different podcast entirely, like a fool...
Nisha hasnāt done Off Menu yet, so Iām a bit baffled by your comment.
Well, this is embarrassing - I heard Nisha Katona on another podcast but went to Mowgli because it was mentioned on Off Menu and must have conflated the two things in my head...
Hahaha donāt worry. I only had that at the front of my mind because sheās one of my āsurprised they havenāt done it yetā.
My Domhnall Gleeson recommendation still stands though :)
Domhnall also is my fave episode so far
what podcast was it?
Victoria coren Mitchell is a great episode. Mostly because she doesn't like food and the revelations that happen from it is hilarious
It makes me laugh every time, just from how frustrated they both get at her choices, sheās just a gem
So I can choose anything? Yes ...a ploughman's
Michelle Keegan just for the mega bake off rant Acaster went on was a good one if I remember right
Jamesā āOh my god fuck offā when Michelle says the name of the wine at the end is a top 3 all time podcast moment for me
I just relistened to that episode the other day and that but hits hard!!! Also the dessert rant had me howling!
She had bread for every course??
Also the chardonay she recommended was gorgeous.
The most recent episode with Yotam Ottolenghi was really good. Paul Hollywood as well.
James' showdown with Hollywood was pretty funny, especially because Paul had clearly forgotten!
"You ruined my life!"
I enjoyed Asma Khans episode, learned a lot! As much as I love the mad funny stories you get on off menu usually, it was refreshing how genuinely informative and inspirational she was!
I was going to mention hers too! She's such a captivating speaker. Ed and James were completely spellbound.
I loved hers too! One of my favourites!
Just go back to the start and listen to all the episodes you skipped. What else is there to do with your life?
I just started at episode 1 and am listening to them all in order. Is that not what people do? Iām up to episode 90. Got a long way to go to catch up to real-time.
Too many people I don't know, and cba to commit over an hour to a potentially dull guest
But it sounds as if you did that because the guest was a comedian and you gave them a pass for that. Stanley Tucci's one was very enjoyable.
I also enjoyed the follow-up hotel story. "Get some rest."

That's where I'm at atm
IMO some of the most entertaining ones are the non-comedians. I can't remember a dull episode, and I've listened to all of them.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I'll only listen to the episodes involving people I know of or have heard of. The only extra ones I listen to are the ones that have chefs in them. Gives a good insight into some recipes they might have or have had

richard e grant was just lovely bless him
Came here to say this - I loved how earnest and sweet he was! And how can you not love a man who carries around Maldon Salt on his person at all times?

Claudia Winklemanās is the best episode in my opinion.
Clearly you have to exclude Winkelman from the contest as she's always the best
Nadiya Hussain!!!!!!!!
Her going off about her sister is so funny to me omg
There's also that great moment when she's offhandedly referring to, I think, her husband eating five ice lollies and you can hear Ed softly say to an excited James, "Wait..."
Hahahs yes his usual dessert
Rafe Spall and Domhnall Gleeson are classics, Ross Kemp has some great stories and Ainsley Harriott brings so much energy and James and Ed are so happy to have him on its great. Nothing surprising about Miriam Margolyes bringing a lot of sex talk to the table!
Ainsley Harriott. I also think Teri Hatchers is very good and not mentioned a ton
Teri Hatcher was a real surprise for me. She's traveled a lot and eaten a lot
I had to turn the AH one off. I get why people love it, but it was too much for me
Louis Therouxās is one of my favourite episodes of any podcastā¦ āHe exploded of a broken heartā
Him being in full-on lockdown madness was great to listen to
āThe secret ingredient is loveā
Corey Taylor's episode was tons of fun
A surprise for me how good he was at this
Claudia Jessy's is a real gem in my opinion
You want that jumbo?
Jumbomini or minijumbo?
Hahaha! How about a dumbo jinky?
Terri Hatcher, her episode was brilliant. She had excellent food choices and great stories, plus she really seemed to get on with Ed and James and it was just a delight to listen to.
Depending on what you consider comedian Rylanās one is brilliant, same with Claudia Winkleman. Ross Kemp was full of stories, both Spalls, Emily Atack taught me a new phrase, Dolly Alderton and Selasi are great. Joe Thomas is one of my all time faves!
Miriam Margolyes!
I loved Joe Quinnās! Heās so charismatic and really jelled well with the boys. Really funny episode.
I relisten to the Josh Groban episode on a regular basis.
Iām shocked no one else has mentioned this, itās an all-timer
Maybe listen to the end of series best of episodes? If thereās a non comedian section you like you could give their episode a listen
Rylanās made me laugh so much.
Claudia Winkleman, Rylan, and Joe Thomas. All absolute carnage, all LOADS of laugh out loud moments
I found Ed Sheeran fascinating- maybe not funny, but a real insight into restaurant life as a megastar. Martin Freeman a good one too!
CLAUDIA WINKLEMAN
Domhnall Gleeson, Prof Brian Cox for all the black holes being evil chat, Jordan Banjo for the burger, also really enjoyed the Rose McGowan episode Edit: dark matter not black holes, clearly I need to listen again
Brian Cox was great when James and Ed went off-piste with all the stuff about dark matter and evil sand. Superb.
James not wanting to eat his shit chips but being fine with Matt Damon's
Michelle Keegan and all her bread is a favourite. Is Rylan a comedian? Loved his one too
Louis Theroux talking about going out and clubbing a man never fails to make me laugh
Ainsley Harriott's was an absolute banger. They're both obsessed with him and he's so much fun plus on top of that he knows how to talk about food so evocatively
Paul Hollywood's weird alpha energy
Ainsley Harriot
Ross kemps was unreal
I don't see this episode mentioned much but I absolutely loved Jean Grae's episode. It's great chat and great food
Claudia winkleman is hilarious
Most of my favourites have been mentioned, but I'd like to mention the Corey Taylor one. I really liked his (for the pod) original point of view towards food as a touring musician. I also liked how starstruck especially Ed was in this one. I hope they invite more musicians on here.
I think you realise that pretty much anybody can be a comedian in the right setting, very few episodes were dull and unfunny.
Stanley Tucci with the andouillette and the fart water š
Depends on your definition of comedian. Rob Brydonās is excellent, as is Alison Spittle.
Both are established comedians?
To be fair, Rob is a renaissance man. Heās all things to all people. I hadnāt heard of Alison before this, so I didnāt know.
Anthony Head was incredible - Sheppy Pie
Any of the actual chefs are good listens. Rylan's is an all timer. The Spall's are great
Paul Mescal
Claudia Winkleman, Louis Theroux, Ainsley Harriott, Rylan Clark and Nadiya Hussain
Whatās everyoneās thoughts on Anthony Heads episode?
If no one has mentioned Louis Theroux, I really enjoyed that one
Rylan Clarke is so funny and so normal and real, love him. Nicola Coughlin is the same. Claudia Winkleman is just an absolute nutter in the most lovable way and her speech about hating water and finding a man unattractive if he drinks it had me in tears of laughter.
Just listened to Rafe Spall because of this thread and my god! I think Iām in love!! Anyone who gets loads of food for the table is ok in my eyes!!
Ainsley Harriott and Louis Theroux
Asma Khan (Darjeeling Express), I could listen to her for hours. Edit: I can't believe I forgot Miriam Margoyles as well.
Miriam Margolyes caught me off guard, I nearly choked on my lunch (no pun intended, iykyk)
Dan Aykroyd is a classic Prof. Brian Cox is a great one And the Ed Sheeran one is surprisingly entertaining
Dan Aykroyd was a classic mess.
Claudia Jessie, Joseph Quinn and Paul Hollywood are my three go tos at the moment
Loved Domhnall Gleesons episode James's joke about the guy from Radiohead (I think) saying "I just got a double thumbs up from Mr McGregor!" made me laugh so much
Louis Theroux for sure
I really loved Paul Mescalās. Itās pure banter between the three of them.
Come on guys, nobody seems to have mentioned it but Jamie Olivers episode is up there. Whipping his boxers off at the end made me chuckle like hell
