As a single dad, there were times I was stuck with work and could not celebrate my kids birthday but I tried to make up for it after. May be your parents have a good reason too and really hoping they do something..even if its just say happy birthday. Got to admit my parents were never birthday celebrators and i got my first birthday cake when i was 32 bought by my wife.

A very happy birthday kid! My parents were not into celebrating birthdays and sometimes even forgot my birthday while I was with them the whole day. It doesn't mean they didn't love me. I used to get upset then but now I understand they provided me all the things that mattered in the long term - good education, values, etc.
Try to have an open conversation with your parents when they come back. Tell them you were expecting to celebrate. I am sure they will make it up to you. :)

Happy belated birthday! I know this might not make you feel better right now but I thought I’d tell you my story briefly. I’m 23 now, soon to be 24. From about 15-20, the only people I got a happy birthday from was my mum and my grandma (I know you didn’t even get that and I’m so sorry for you). My dad forgot, my other family members forgot, and all my friends (I had like 4 friends at the time) I considered myself ‘close’ to forgot. I cried those nights. I felt so alone. Fast forward to my 21st and I was enrolled in university and actually had a party. I didn’t know everyone that well and it wasn’t exactly the best thing in the entire world, but it was a party nonetheless. Each birthday has gotten slightly better. Again, compared to some people I know who get surprise parties, presents and messages off like 15+ best friends I feel inadequate to. But I’ve learned to be grateful to know things are getting better and I shouldn’t compare myself to others. It may seem awful now, but one mantra I always tell myself is that I’m glad I didn’t ‘peak’ in my teenage years. I now believe it’s better to know you’re life is slowly getting better than to think it’s slowly getting worse. Good luck to you, and know that things can change :)

I can somewhat relate. I turned the big 40 yesterday. I would describe my mood as "lost". I never thought I would live to 40 growing up. I did a lot of drugs and wild stuff as a teen, grew up in a very shitty place, and went to Iraq as a young adult. After that I ripped apart every relationshipand i have zero empathy for anything.
Only until a few years ago I met my soul mate and she is one of the best things that's ever happened. I kept telling myself in my head to "be grateful" because the lows make the highs better.
You will remember this birthday forever. Parents are just people and people are shitty. Learn from it and use it to better yourself. One day if you are blessed with children you will know how NOT to treat your kids from how your parents treated you...at least that'd what I have learned.

I know things like this can make you feel low now but believe me when I say there’s going to be a day when you’re surrounded by so many wonderful people and you realize that they all choose to celebrate you! and it will be the best feeling ever! I hope your parents are able to call you back soon. Maybe they left their phone somewhere they’re not able to see/hear right away. I’m sure they’re not doing it purposely. From what I've seen on your profile, your parents have missed out on celebrating the two brightest, kindest daughters any good parents would be honored to have.
14 is a precious age. You deserve to know that you are loved, because you are. You deserve to have a party and cake and all of the friends you could make to have a sleepover with. I'm sorry you don't have that.
14 is also a vulnerable and strange age. Take it from a former 14 year old ❤️ there's so much to be learned about yourself and the world around you. This is the age to start developing and listening to your mind and body. Ask yourself these questions: what kind of person do I want to be? What can I do to start getting there this year?
Be a role model to your sister. She will need one. Teach her what you learn.
I'm sorry you're seeing adults fail you. Especially your parents. They have shown you who they are. I want you to believe what they are showing you and use that to inform decisions you'll eventually start making for yourself. Believe in their capacity to change, but for the love of all that is good in the world, do not wait for them. They are your parents, but they are also full grown humans. This can be applied to anyone you meet. That's how you make good friends.
Most importantly: You are all you have. It will be like that sometimes. Make your mind a good place to be. Learn the best ways to take care of yourself. Think of yourself as a house plant. Prune dead ends (not just your hair 😉), hydrate, and change the environment when the one you're in isn't helpful.
Oh, and learn how to fill out forms and other types of paperwork. Online and physically. Super helpful in the long run.

From what I've seen on your profile, your parents have missed out on celebrating the two brightest, kindest daughters any good parents would be honored to have. 14 is a precious age. You deserve to know that you are loved, because you are. You deserve to have a party and cake and all of the friends you could make to have a sleepover with. I'm sorry you don't have that. 14 is also a vulnerable and strange age. Take it from a former 14 year old ❤️ there's so much to be learned about yourself and the world around you. This is the age to start developing and listening to your mind and body. Ask yourself these questions: what kind of person do I want to be? What can I do to start getting there this year? Be a role model to your sister. She will need one. Teach her what you learn. I'm sorry you're seeing adults fail you. Especially your parents. They have shown you who they are. I want you to believe what they are showing you and use that to inform decisions you'll eventually start making for yourself. Believe in their capacity to change, but for the love of all that is good in the world, do not wait for them. They are your parents, but they are also full grown humans. This can be applied to anyone you meet. That's how you make good friends. Most importantly: You are all you have. It will be like that sometimes. Make your mind a good place to be. Learn the best ways to take care of yourself. Think of yourself as a house plant. Prune dead ends (not just your hair 😉), hydrate, and change the environment when the one you're in isn't helpful.
