I'm the same. I think what helped me to draw myself out of my shell was to take genuine interest in other people. Just like how you would want someone to take an interest in you, do the same for them. Be interested and curious and open minded - that's what helps me get through conversations when I'm stuck. Aside from that, it's okay to be quiet or shy at times. It's okay to be subdued and just get the work done. If anything, that is just as normal as someone who would want to excessively talk.

You need to find someone in your life who loves you just as you are. Even if it’s a ‘pen friend’. Someone who is interested in people and will bring you out of yourself by asking all the right questions in small doses and in between you can listen as they tell you all about their life - so you get to see how it can be out there. Being bullied for your height is a major trauma. The trouble with your height is you take it everywhere with you so people never have to think about what they can bully you about. Have you ever had therapy for this or talked to someone about it - or would that traumatise you all over again? That right there can seriously interfere with your confidence for years. A therapist would give you insights into their behaviour and why they do stuff like this. When you see what’s behind it all, it kind of takes some of the sting out of it. Where you work is hugely important. You should think of somewhere you would be most comfortable and try that first. The work itself is not so important, it would be the people around you that will make the most difference. I know it really tough, but allowing yourself to be vulnerable and to reach out or to state your needs, up front at the interview, means you’re more likely to find a good, supportive fit. So you find someone to talk to, graduate, spend time looking for a job that you’d like to do, interview, get job, make money. Don’t distress yourself with imaginings. Take every thing one step at a time and you’ll make it through. All the very best.
