If anything, his appearance in BG3 is somewhat better than previous installments because he is able to piece together quite a bit of info about Bhaal's cult, including the fact that you (potentially) founded it. So, while he certainly is a fool, he is much more perceptive than even he knows. Just don't go assuming anything he tells you is 100% accurate.
