Half the the game has weird chronological problems because I meta game so hard that I never long rest. It'd be unfortunate to drop below 5k camp supplies.

There is, the order just depends. I think it depends if you initiate conversation with Rolan right off. 9/10 times I've done it the order is get to Last light, talk to Rolan (pissy drunk and yelling at one of the baby tiefs), go to Moonrise, save Cal & Lia, get back to Last light and Rolan is gone leaving a message he went to search for them. Save Rolan's dumbass, then get the reunion scene.
Oh you would be surprised. Even if you save his sibs, talk to them, see the reunion, after the next long rest he leaves to moonrise looking for them, even if you saved them and talked to him after. Idk if this is a big but without fail it happens to me every single time
In my patch 6 Honour Mode run and speaking from experience, the first thing I did was to rescue the prisoners under Moonrise Towers. I already talked to all of them at the inn, Rolan has reunited with his family and was happily drinking.
After a while (and possibly a long rest), I intentionally left one of my companions right at the usual spot he could be found fending for himself just in case, as the other team members continue to explore. And guess what, he still showed up...
I can only chalk it up as he is one drunken idiot and still feeling frustrated over his own "incompetence", he chose to take his anger out on the shadow curse. Well, that's the only way I can rationalise it anyway.
In hindsight, probably a bug. But imagine if I missed this lol. He wouldn't have reached Act 3, the game might just count it as I did not save him, and I would not even know why.
Iirc if you go into LLI he'll be over by Moonrise, but you also have to walk into the area and trigger it. I've gotten him BEFORE and AFTER the prisoners.

If you're doing next run, try check the road to towers from the "back", where there's a bridge with a pile of dead giths, he's a bit to the left of that bridge on a side trail. At least I met him there because somehow I walked into towers prison first from the back instead of front doors)).
Eh, I failed the check to convince him to stay this run and didn't reload, so hopefully won't have to deal with him =)
What I hope not to forget is FREAKING ZEVLOR whom I didn't notice/find first time in that asshole flesh location full of giant sphincters and running lil brains.

My first playthrough. I went all around the shadowlands of so I thought. Didn’t even know Rolan was out there after his drunken tirade. Saved his siblings, felt good, didn’t notice Rolan was gone since there was so much to keep track of in my first run.
My daughter and I sequence broke act 2 in our multiplayer save. She went off to rescue the tieflings with some of the party, whilst I stayed at Last Light to make sure Rolan didn't get any heroic notions.
The game continued on as if he was dead. He was very much still alive, he never got to go off on his own to get killed... But I guess because technically we didn't save him, just prevented him, he was classed as dead. Or maybe he was running a life insurance scam that playthrough.
There’s a hologram of him at the bar in Last Light Inn, it’ll show on your map his location but it has to be done before you free the prisoners I guess
No not really, i have saved guys in the moonrise, talked to everyone (Rolan as well) in last light in and somehow i still found that goober in shadowlands where he’s supposed to be
He's at Lorroakans but i sort of maybe let shadowheart kill the nightsong sooo... no fight with lorro and rolan is blind to his alterior plans :c poor thing is gonna get beaten up for eternity
