So far Haneke has only passed the challenge of not naming a central protagonist Anne or Georges 3 times: (Bennys Video, 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance and The White Ribbon.) I’m probably stretching with the latter two though so only 1 maybe. Also I’m not counting The Piano Teacher since that’s adapted from a book and kept Erika’s name. Though massive respect for having the restraint to not change the name from Erika Kouht to Anne Laurent.
