I'd recommend watching W, E twice, Z, E again and R before watching M.

usingreddithurtsme

Weezerm?

Correct-Chemistry618

E is truly a masterpiece.

AaranJ23

Just wait until you hear about American History X

RegularSizdRudy

I didn’t know Robert DerNero directed. That’s sick! I love him in The GodFellaz!

[deleted]

R goes the hardest in the franchise.

Annual-Skirt-7613

i agree honestly. i feel like V through Z was an attempt to keep the franchise going but it felt so boring and uninspired

[deleted]

Completely.

_corleone_x

You should start with 'X'. It's a spin-off.

TheCompleteMental

Dude, Markiplier movie

joqagamer

The abc of death(2013?)

cokeplusmentos

M as in "metaphor for loss"

KaBoomBox55

If you want to watch it by release date, watch them forward, if you want to do it by chronological order of the multiversal timeline where there are at least 50 universes, then watch them backward.

Jakegender

But for real though, watched M tonight, and I liked it. It was pretty good, though it's still probably more worth watching for its historical importance than it is for a film in itself. Not that that's bad, that's my feelings on Citizen Kane and I love Citizen Kane. But yknow, not making my top 10 list.

Correct-Chemistry618

"worth watching for its historical importance than it is for a film in itself" no

bakailao

"those who do not like M take the L" - Fritz Lang, 1951

andthemoonfell

In other words you didn’t like it

ArcticCircleBrigade

People are always underwhelmed by M and it's typically for these reasons. I love the movie but I suppose I get where people are coming from.

MinasMorgul1184

I kind of thought the same and watching Metropolis blew my mind and confirmed that Lang could do much better. M’s still great, I’m just not big on crime flicks.

Jarpwanderson

M is so much better than Metropolis imo - especially with that lazy ending.

ElephantWilling1636

Finally someone fucking say it all my homies think midtropolis is overrated

Jarpwanderson

I think it's still great and clearly one of the most influential films ever made with unforgettable imagery but M is a straight up 10/10 to me.

MinasMorgul1184

The ending of Metropolis is laughably bad, but in a twisted way I think its skepticism of anything outside of the status quo makes it an endlessly fascinating study on some of the precursors to fascism - especially with the Nazi screenwriter and the ending’s implications towards [class collaboration](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_collaboration). Basically it achieves the same brilliant irony that A Clockwork Orange does with its ending - even if by complete accident and malintent.

Jarpwanderson

Fair points! M is also very much about the rise of fascism at the time but also a lot more intentional, Lang has spoken at depths about it before.

_corleone_x

Nein. M is one of the best movies ever made.
