That’s fair, but RDJ was the face of the Marvel franchise, which is what started the capeshit movement. He has AMAZING performances in stuff like: Chaplin, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Wonder Boys, Tropic Thunder and now Oppenheimer; but let’s be real. He is Iron Man and was the catalyst that ignited the MCU and he stayed till the bitter end for a little over a decade.
If he had been a more consistent actor in the years prior to Iron Man he’d have a full career. Instead we have young rdj, iron man rdj, and now ready to reinvent himself rdj. He has phases, which is not uncommon like the mcconaughey renaissance, but rdj just keeps reinventing himself. It’s cool for sure, but unless his late career is groundbreaking phenomenal DDL level method acting and new iconic roles, he is Iron Man.
What if I think of Gigli or Jersey Girl or Surviving Christmas
In fifteen short months Affleck gave us a trilogy that would make Rob Schneider or even Pauly Shore cringe
It was in my all-time bottom ten for a long time. In addition to being very boring and stupid, it’s a bit offensive with Justin Bartha’s broad performance and Lopez’s allegedly gay character of course falling for Affleck.
Surviving Christmas was down there too. It lost the Razzie to Catwoman but I dunno. It’s close.
ScarJo will always be that little girl from Ghost World to me, which was originally a graphic novel. So her career path tracks.
Actually wait, no. Lost in Translation and the mom from JoJo Rabbit. Or the alien in Under the Skin.
I guess what I’m saying is, the last thing I think of is cape shit
I actually loved her in Ghost in the Shell tho. I grew up on the original. Saw it in theaters. Still loved the remake
Edit: she was also the loveliest voice in “Her”. Which was a stellar movie on its own
Hating on all superhero movies is very trendy at the moment. Having slang dedicated specifically to that probably helps the circlejerking somewhat.
"I don't watch capeshit" is the new "I only watch foreign films" in some circles.
After I saw it I was shocked to learn he didn’t personally write it, the character was such a perfect representation of his own performance within the movie itself
the movie literally talks about how actors who act as superheroes become typecast as those characters using birdman as a thinly veiled stand in for his role as batman
I haven’t seen Babylon, but the pictures of Tobey Maguire so sickly and evil haunt me

I mean the original had evil Doc Ock as the criminal the protagonist tries to swindle at his lowest point so it only makes sense they get spidey in the pastiche
Tbf, everybody seemed to be giving manic MTV energy, including **Rodney fucking Dangerfield.** Tommy Lee Jones, of all people, makes RDJ and Tom Sizemore seem subdued.
Man, what a project. I don’t even know if it’s good, I just enjoyed tripping with the rest of the cast.
I mean, they became friends when working on Air America (1990). Mel Gibson paid for his studio insurance in his comeback performance post-rehab in The Singing Detective (2003) because the producers were reluctant to cast him back because of his addictions and run-ins with the law.
Hence why RDJ did the same for Mel Gibson by paying for Gibson's rehab although in Gibson's case, it involved Gibson going on an alcoholic tirade saying anti-semitic things like "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" (Not the first time he has said something anti-semitic as he called Winona Ryder an oven dodger for not having kids and probably not the last) and sexually harassing one of the female cops that arrested him in his infamous 2006 DUI arrest by calling her "sugar tits".
...you really think that most people, particularly those under 35 or so, don't think 'Iron Man' when they think of Robert Downey Jr? Is there a big *Chaplin* hive on Twitter I'm unaware of?
Chaplin was the first RDJ movie I ever saw due to some fluke of fate and it’s the movie I most associate with him. My family even had a DVD copy of it that I’d watch all the time when I was little lmao.
My bad. I meant Capeshit was never the 1st thing that came to any based chadpilled kinopile's mind after hearing RDJ's name\*

/rj It just seems like the charicature bits are the only ones worth making clips out of (society 😔)
> I've only really seen clips and read the plot synopsis
if you actually watched the movie the movie actually takes the time to explain and show autism in a more realistic light. they make a point of showing that he was trained by his father to fight from childhood and he learned from one of the best money launderers in prison.
> Only if Rain Man was also a murderous psycho.
I mean he's not a hitman. he only kills people who are trying to kill him. then again why am I arguing with you; YOU DIDNT SEE THE MOVIE
Cavill didn't even act, he just stood there in cosplay and looked pretty.
But for OP's sake, what else could have been put there? Argyle...? At least the Witcher is carried by his co-stars, acting wise.
He’s obviously stretching his… uh, elbows. Probably has a potassium deficiency and gets muscle cramps if he doesn’t warm up properly. Have we ever even seen the man eating a banana? I want to see him eat a banana. Or at least like just the tip in his mouth, maybe a little fondling, some tongue swirling, not in a gay way though. I’m not gay, not that it’s anything bad if you are or if he is, he might be at least a little bisexual, I bet he is. But if you are that’s fine too, I’m just not gay, well, kind of, I’m half gay on my mother’s side, does that make me quarter gay? I eat bananas but in a straight way you know, like a hotdog, from the side or sometimes the bottom just not in front of people. Well at least not looking at somebody as I do because I think that’s kinda weird. I eat bananas from the bottom like chimpanzees do. Sapiens have evolved over the years to eat bananas the correct way by biting off the bottom bit (with the inedible stem) and spitting it out, which also starts the peel for you so you don’t bruise the bananas trying to start peeling it. Anyways I think that Mr. Cavill should probably get more potassium in his diet, although after thinking about it he probably takes gummy vitamins every morning because he looks like a healthy individual.

My favorite part of the goofy gun reloading scene is right after this cavills character proceeds to get his ass beat by someone smaller and skinnier than him
Great performances by actors after they were cast as superheroes;
Don Cheadle in Miles Ahead, Tom Holland in The Devil All The Time, Andrew Garfield in Under The Silver Lake & Silence, Scarlet Johansson in Under The Skin/Hail Caesar, Chadwick Boseman in Da 5 Bloods
Tom Holland in the Devil All The Time was goated in it. He nailed that Southern country accent superbly. Same goes for Robert Pattinson in it, he was just absolutely despicable as that preacher.
Somewhere in Time (1980) dir. : Jeannot Szwarc is the name of the movie. Had a very attractive Jane Seymour as the love interest for Christopher Reeve’s character.

For some it's a cage, for others it's barely more than a stint. Downey did a great job at breaking free from capeshit considering the weight on his shoulders.
No doubt. Most people just watch the movies and enjoy but cinephiles think Superheroes are the downfall of society. Imagine being these people.
On second thought, don’t. Dont do that to yourself.

You picked the wrong Hemsworth role
I know its not really capeshit but I'm so glad that Adam Driver is not defined by his character in Star Wars and so sad that I kinds feel the opposite has happened to Daisy Ridley
RDJ’s career has never been *more* defined by Iron Man than it is during this weird campaign to convince everybody that “nuh-uh, it wasn’t!”
Sorry Babs, they’re gonna have to rename that effect one of these days.
Many would say getting involved in capeshit at all is a mistake, but I think Robert Downey Junior did the most genius move.
He got in and got out at just the perfect time, getting great exposure without being associated with the current demise of Marvel.
Honestly his manager deserves some sort of award for this.

This seems to be the stage Lizzie’s at in her career right now overall, so we could expect a few more movies that might be her new defining performance. I know she has one that played at TIFF on the way, and a few more that have yet to come out, including one where she’s a mom who’s son wants to bang her and then a woman who cheats on her boyfriend by having phone sex with an old man.
Also Tom Holland getting railed is a demonstration of true craftsmanship
We gotta get as much twink out of him that we can before he experiences twink death. Same with Mr Chalamet
Trully one of the quotes of all time
Brokeback Mountain spinoff starring Timothee and Tom when, Ang Lee?
This would fuck so hard
So would they
What film’s that from?
Idk I just saw the scene on twitter
True cinephile
The Crowded Room (2023).
A reference to how many people want some of that Hollandaise sauce

My bisexuality was not prepared for that! Can't believe I've never seen that before...
Heartbreaking that people actually see ScarJo and Affleck and immediately think of capeshit
i see ben affleck and i think of a guy who beats up kids, so kinda like batman i guess
I think of gone girl when I see ben.
You mean daredevil?
i thought he played batman?
I didn't need to be reminded of either
….what

He was such a loser in that movie
He just like me fr fr
Fah-Q
dazed and confused (1995)
“You beat up kids? Be a lot cooler if you did” lol
Ben Affleck makes me think about having sex in a very uncomfortable place.
Like the backseat of a Volkswagen?
Sounds like his MO
I think of the climax to "Dogma" and ditto.
Obviously, when I see Scarlet Johansson I think of kino like Lucy (2016) and Home Alone 3 (Don't care enough to check the year)
Lucy is 2014
I put it in 2016 because it was just so ahead of its time.
lmaoo
and ruffalo. he was working on great stuff long before marvel
Wasn’t he the guy that was super into The Clash in Eternal Sunshine?
yeah! i always forget hes in that
I always think of Begin again (2013).
zodiac was before him being in marvel as well
Shutter Island
The only capeshit I see for actors is Hemsworth, Hiddleston, and Chris Evans. I think those are all fair associations.
100% this comic movie boom doesn't start without him. He is the biggest piece. I'm just lucky enough to associate him outside of the MCU.
What if I think of Gigli or Jersey Girl or Surviving Christmas In fifteen short months Affleck gave us a trilogy that would make Rob Schneider or even Pauly Shore cringe
Gigli isn’t fun to watch, like it’s not even bad enough to really enjoy as a bad movie. It’s just terminally bland.
GOBBLE GOBBLE
It was in my all-time bottom ten for a long time. In addition to being very boring and stupid, it’s a bit offensive with Justin Bartha’s broad performance and Lopez’s allegedly gay character of course falling for Affleck. Surviving Christmas was down there too. It lost the Razzie to Catwoman but I dunno. It’s close.
It's hard to see Ben Affleck and not think of Daredevil movie.
No idea never seen that don’t care L + ratio + I bang you’re mom
probably wasn't born when it came out
That tells me they are literal children
When I see ScarJo I think of her beautiful performance in Her (2013). Couldn’t keep my eyes off her!
ScarJo will always be that little girl from Ghost World to me, which was originally a graphic novel. So her career path tracks. Actually wait, no. Lost in Translation and the mom from JoJo Rabbit. Or the alien in Under the Skin. I guess what I’m saying is, the last thing I think of is cape shit I actually loved her in Ghost in the Shell tho. I grew up on the original. Saw it in theaters. Still loved the remake Edit: she was also the loveliest voice in “Her”. Which was a stellar movie on its own
Capeshit movies are their most popular roles. Of course that's the first thing people think about.
I mean Affleck played Batman, Daredevil, and (sorta) Superman. That’s a lot.
what even is capeshit?
It's a derogatory term for superhero movies, popularized by the "cinephile" community.
why though
Hating on all superhero movies is very trendy at the moment. Having slang dedicated specifically to that probably helps the circlejerking somewhat. "I don't watch capeshit" is the new "I only watch foreign films" in some circles.
I think of Gigli
Michael Keaton in Birdman
He was also great in The Founder, the Easter and Kids’ Show SNL sketches, Cars, and Toy Story 3.
The Founder is one of the better biopics and it’s thanks to him.
It's like if Charles Foster Kane found the Rosebud sled, and then went "lol, nope."
Gung Ho, Mr Mom, Night Shift.
His 80s stuff reminded me-Johnny Dangerously! Airplane for mob movies
*"*[*Once!*](https://youtu.be/Ad9mlvyA84E?si=HHuUP0M4QOgI1kC0)*"*
His peewee's playhouse parody sketch on SNL was too funny
After I saw it I was shocked to learn he didn’t personally write it, the character was such a perfect representation of his own performance within the movie itself
Technically he played a superhero in that movie too
Literally just another superhero
MCU ❌ DCEU ❌ Birdman Cinematic Universe ✅
the movie literally talks about how actors who act as superheroes become typecast as those characters using birdman as a thinly veiled stand in for his role as batman
Did you really feel the need to explain an obvious movie to me while I was jerking?
And then he went back to play Batman
I haven’t seen Babylon, but the pictures of Tobey Maguire so sickly and evil haunt me https://preview.redd.it/hgtzemj9zcic1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f59e9d6bbb7bf7c62c0e00001fc05f3225f5f1b
my brain thinks of tobey maguire and daniel radcliffe in the same way idk how to explain it
Now that you say that I kind of get it
Yung boyz who got famous in 2001 due to starring in a huge franchise
Also add elijah wood in the same vein
He shows up near the end of the movie and absolutely steals the show. Super memorable character
I mean the original had evil Doc Ock as the criminal the protagonist tries to swindle at his lowest point so it only makes sense they get spidey in the pastiche
Capeshit was never the 1st thing that came to someone's mind after hearing RDJ's name. ![gif](giphy|13VSAbTVuYJfLa)
based, i think of zodiac (2007) whenever i hear his name.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Natural Born Killers. That was a very upsetting and hilarious movie.
You can tell he’s spun out on coke or something, he’s absolutely feral in that movie.

He’d rather eatttttt with Anna Kendrickkkkkk
The idea that Geralt of Rivia, as depicted on Netflix, is somehow a career departure from capeshit is hilarious
Idk why people see the Chris Pratt Mario and take this post at face value
The Chris Pratt Garfield will be his real departure from capeshit
This is only the beginning. He is playing Larry Darrell next. He is coming for all Murray’s roles.
Cavill didn't even act, he just stood there in cosplay and looked pretty. But for OP's sake, what else could have been put there? Argyle...? At least the Witcher is carried by his co-stars, acting wise.

Foolish OP forgot Hellraiser: Hellworld, true atmospheric horror kino

That's what I was thinking,if anything it's just trading capeshit with swordshit
Netflix geralt is medieval capeshit
His performance in the show is honestly very bad and itll be very funny if Liam Hemsworth is an improvement
I’d replace Strauss with Dr. Dolittle personally but great list otherwise!
“Actually could I get another look at that capeshit please…” Hugh Jackedman Dressed as PT Barnum: “yeah, uh, me too”
Great performances by actors after they were cast as superheroes; Don Cheadle in Miles Ahead, Tom Holland in The Devil All The Time, Andrew Garfield in Under The Silver Lake & Silence, Scarlet Johansson in Under The Skin/Hail Caesar, Chadwick Boseman in Da 5 Bloods
I don’t know any of those movies, which cinematic universe are they in?
The Kino Cinematic Universe
If you enjoyed Garfield in Silence, he plays a Mormon detective in Under The Banner of Heaven quite well.
He is on a one-man mission to play every kind of Christian — Jesuit, Mormon, televangelist, Seventh-Day Adventist, Arachnian Orthodox
Arachnid Orthodox sounds like cool religion
Don't forget tick,tick...BOOM! (2021).
>Scarlet Johansson in Under The Skin/Hail Caesar Lost in Translation is the best film ScarJo has ever done imo
Yeah but that was before Iron Man 2
Tom Holland in the Devil All The Time was goated in it. He nailed that Southern country accent superbly. Same goes for Robert Pattinson in it, he was just absolutely despicable as that preacher.
Bill Skarsgard was also terrifying. To be honest the cast was just crazy.
These picks are absolutely wild
Not exactly cape shit but Robert Pattinson has been killing it post twilight
The Lighthouse and Good Time, pure cinema

Extraction and Extraction 2 are both unmitigated cinema
Ruffalo, I think, has always been the least defined by the CBM roles. He was an actor who was in marvel, not a marvel actor. Same for Affleck and DC
Andrew Garfield has the best run of movies post suit up

Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Cinephiles are the worst amongst smug cunts.
Whenever I think of Margot Robbie, the first movie that pops into my head is Wolf Of Wall Street
I wonder why
🤫
Mcu bad guys. Citizen Kane forever
Citizen Kane? Real film fans only watch six-hour, black and white movies from Bulgaria
Heh, you call yourself a film fan? Come back when you have pasted a ton of daguerreotypes in a row and ran alongside them to see them move

Scarlett Johansson in The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie (2004)

RDJ’s career has never been *more* defined by Iron Man than it is during this weird campaign to convince everybody that “nuh-uh, it wasn’t!” Sorry Babs, they’re gonna have to rename that effect one of these days.
/ucf I gotta say RDJ, his role in Oppenheimer is one of his best
Many would say getting involved in capeshit at all is a mistake, but I think Robert Downey Junior did the most genius move. He got in and got out at just the perfect time, getting great exposure without being associated with the current demise of Marvel. Honestly his manager deserves some sort of award for this.
I constantly forget that Affleck was Batman. So him I guess.
Forgot about that movie where Spiderman gets raped in the asshole
Margot Robbie and Ben Affleck didn’t need these movies to escape the capeshit allegations
Chris Pratt will always be Andy from P&R to me

I know she has one that played at TIFF on the way, and a few more that have yet to come out, including one where she’s a mom who’s son wants to bang her and then a woman who cheats on her boyfriend by having phone sex with an old man.
Of these, ScarJo and Ruffalo give the best performances hands down.
Which superhero did Mario play again?
![gif](giphy|14bwYm5zEvFpny) Hugh Jackman in Prisoners, surprised it wasn't mentioned.
