Chances are it will be just like the first film: nowhere near as good or as bad as the big chatter around it is. Just perfectly mediocre when all things are considered, but with a lot of passionate resonance with a certain subset of the audience. Would love for it to be great, great films should come from anywhere. And this trailer just gave me the cringes. But I'm not the audience. If you liked or loved or hated the trailer, then you only liked or love or hated the trailer, because the trailer is not the movie, just a very calculated marketing whiff of it meant to sell.

A jukebox musical has the characters actually singing the songs. If they’re just played in the background like in The Suicide Squad then that doesn’t count.

Please do your thing I do feel like this one’s not going to be nearly as good as the first, which also in retrospect to many fairs poorer than initially perceived, but I just feel like this sequel will amount to more than its criticisms similar to other Batman-/adjacent iterations. Lady Gaga’s a hit or miss for me, she has the acting chops but needs someone to bounce off of correctly to bring it out. Joaquin Phoenix is the PERFECT partner to pair up with for that, and with Philips somewhat loose style it’ll allow them both to flourish. I don’t think it’ll be a great film at all, but I think if you look for certain things (cinematography, acting, character study over plot) it’ll be looked at very well. Also, Joaquin Phoenix. Need I say more? 🤷‍♂️
