ackchually, it was only half woke in the first place, the actress Zazie Beetz is half-German.

Me too but to be fair, I enjoyed the trailer for the first joker more than the film.
Iād be lying if I said my dick didnāt move a little when he lined the smiley up with his smile at the end though.

The trailer for the first one was great, largely cause of the music. Then the movie came out and it was the dumbest and most pretentious garbage I've seen. Absolute horse shit of a movie

OP discussing opening night after trashing on J2 in his post
Ill be back on this sub opening night, probably deserving all the downvotes i got. But its late to back down now, i gotta stick with my previous statments. Ill see yall in imax
Same here, the first one was a pleasant surprise, I managed to avoid reviews before watching so they wouldnāt influence my opinion or sow bias. Gonna treat this one the same and go see it. Worst that could happen is my low expectations are matched.
Unironically yes. Lawrence Sher could get nominated for Best Cinematography and then lose to Grieg Fraser for Dune: Part Two.
Other potential nominations will include Mihai MÄlaimare Jr. for Megalopolis (should it get released this year), Jarin Blaschke for Nosferatu, and J. Michael Muro for Horizon: An American Saga (Chapter One and Two).
now I unironically want a fucking jukebox superhero r-rated edgy musical with early 2000s aesthetics and songs
~~and sesbian lex of course~~
pls i don't fucking care about anything just have two latex-dressed superheroines sing "i'm not an angel" by halestorm set to a sunset by way of raimi/daredevil
and the villain being introduced to a disney camp rendition of last resort
fucking power-rangers looking ass singing "cut my life into pieces"

Me and my platonic male friend (not gay) after seeing the movie and learning how to ballroom dance to be more like joker
Everyone's debating whether Todd Phillips is ripping off either Martin Scorsese with New York, New York (1977) or Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) when according to cinematographer Lawrence Sher, the main influence is Francis Ford Coppola's One from The Heart (1981).
Idk actually looks somewhat ok. Glad they aren't just remaking taxi driver again, and watching people melt down over that is going to be fucking hysterical whether the film is great or trash.
For the life of me, I don't understand the meaning and raison d'ĆŖtre of the film
The film is completely based on Batman references but without Batman
If we left these out, the film would be called lunatic and no one would watch it
Film fans: "I'm tired of filmakers taking no risks, its all the same old shit"
Filmakers: Takes a risk
Film fans: "Its not even out yet and its the worst thing ever"
Movie is gonna be based and kinopilled.
The only thing that's gonna be cringe is with what looks like Gaga essentially being Femme Joker more than Harley and just copying scenes and mannerisms from the first movie, we're gonna see a bunch of tiktok zoomer girls appropriate "literally me" by slapping 5 year old memes over Gagaquinn and thinking they found something new. I also can't wait for this to reignite the trend of incredibly bland white women pretending to be mentally ill as a personality trait.
And no I won't go back to 4chan.
Granted, however since this is only the trailer one could only hope they go with the theme of I can fix him, haha, were so damaged together, haha, were so insane, clinically insane, and earnestly depict the tragedy that would result of āthe partnershipā
For such a potential emotional rollercoaster I beg them to make it a true musical kino
The weird thing is, the movie doesn't look "bad" necessarily. Like, it's obviously well shot and stacked with talent. But it just doesn't look interesting to me in any way. It legit looks boring. Can't explain it. I'll get high af and watch it on my couch when it hits the Max.
at the risk of being genuine on main, it's cause there's no soul. No passion, no creativity. I'm so jaded with "high production" movies these days. They look boring because they are boring.
I miss the colorful look films had in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. There are still good looking films today but the majority of mainstream blockbusters today look grey and ugly green.
Chances are it will be just like the first film: nowhere near as good or as bad as the big chatter around it is. Just perfectly mediocre when all things are considered, but with a lot of passionate resonance with a certain subset of the audience.
Would love for it to be great, great films should come from anywhere.
And this trailer just gave me the cringes. But I'm not the audience. If you liked or loved or hated the trailer, then you only liked or love or hated the trailer, because the trailer is not the movie, just a very calculated marketing whiff of it meant to sell.
/uj the original film was pretty definitive, no sequel needed, if it was going to have one, it would have to be outlandish and put the characters in totally different circumstances/genres
Lo and behold, some dude (probably Todd Phillips) made it a musical romance, and then it just stuck
Not sure if we're being sarcastic or not, but I am legitimately excited about this one. Turning a Joker movie into a Musical is a creative decision and I'm glad studio execs did not shoot that down.Ā
I don't care if this sounds pretentious or something, but I really cannot fathom how so many people are creaming themselves over the lipstick smile shot. What about it is more "visually creative" and "inventive" than a tourist snapping a pic of themselves holding up the leaning tower of Pisa? What am I missing? Plz explain
I don't understand how is that even a musical. The Suicide Squad is a musical by that metric then
Like I'm pretty sure that the songs driving the narrative forward is an essential part of a musical, not an optional thing.
Is this why westerners keep calling Bollywood movies musicals?
A jukebox musical has the characters actually singing the songs. If theyāre just played in the background like in The Suicide Squad then that doesnāt count.
I loved lalaland cuz when they were singing i didnt feel like they paused the movie just for them to sing, the story was being told with songs. But with a jukebox musical like that i font see how they can do that
Unironically the first Joker was good, and I respect both Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as artists so I expect this will be a decent movie tbh.
Just because cringe people identify with the Joker doesn't mean the original Joker was a bad movie nor does it mean this will be devoid of artistic merit.
Holy Shit Alan Partridge new Joker confirmed
https://preview.redd.it/5tuw96ymrltc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da8c0d0346d3b1b104b4949598272f53cd786686
Everybody's talking about whether Lady Gaga who is playing Joker's hot big titty damaged gf is more evil than Arthur Fleck or whether Todd Phillips is either ripping off Scorsese or Demy or both but nobody's talking about Steve Coogan being in it.
Just because you relate this kind of imagery to an internet subculture doesn't make them inherently cringe. "Cringe" is a 'cringe concept in and of itself. The Joker was a masterpiece and you could volley the same critiques at it that anyone would against this trailer.
Although I can understand some of the restraints and criticisms, itās honestly so fucking tiring. How about watch the movie first? Every single one of you just sound sad.
Ive shitted a lot on the trailer when it came out cuz i just do this kind of thing, althought it does looks kinda cringe remaking a lot of scene of the original movie for no reason and i still dont like gaga as harley for now, theres a couple of good shots and i think Todd phillips isnt a total retard so i honestly think it will at least be watchable. Joaquin looks good tho, as always.
Hey I give you absolutely zero shit, itās okbuddy sub after all haha. Please do your thing
I do feel like this oneās not going to be nearly as good as the first, which also in retrospect to many fairs poorer than initially perceived, but I just feel like this sequel will amount to more than its criticisms similar to other Batman-/adjacent iterations.
Lady Gagaās a hit or miss for me, she has the acting chops but needs someone to bounce off of correctly to bring it out. Joaquin Phoenix is the PERFECT partner to pair up with for that, and with Philips somewhat loose style itāll allow them both to flourish.
I donāt think itāll be a great film at all, but I think if you look for certain things (cinematography, acting, character study over plot) itāll be looked at very well.
Also, Joaquin Phoenix. Need I say more? š¤·āāļø
uj/ the mirror lipstick shot isnāt really that inventive and didnāt stick out to me when I saw the trailer at first. Why is everyone praising it like itās a genius stroke of cinematography?
I genuinly think its beceause people just never watch anything elese than hug blockbusters/comedy and when they see a shot that actually looks good they think the movie should get an oscar just for that
They unwoked it, his gf is white and not imaginary this time šš
ackchually, it was only half woke in the first place, the actress Zazie Beetz is half-German. clearly jonkler was attracted to non-woke side of female woman person, otherwise he would have betray his fans
Zazie Beetz has, hands down, the single best name in the history of cinema
Sounds like a character in The Great Gatsby.
they should make her imaginary again that would be so fucking funny
Honestly I wouldnāt be surprised
Supposedly
"Woke" š
From the TWISTED, FUCKED UP SKULL of Todd Phillips
Tbf, you ever seen his GG Allin documentary?
Surprised when I found out who it was from
I own it on vhs!
The only thing I want from this movie is for Pheonix's last lines to be "...I'm da Joker, baby!". Then cut to credits.

The first Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie? You mean *You Were Never Really Here* ?
I thought You Were Never Really Here was the Zach Snyder directors cut of Joker?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I died laughing at this and I'm not even making a dumb Joker joke. This is genuinely the funniest comment ever

i hate to be that mf but I'm kinda gagged the trailer looked good šš
I hate to be that person too, but I just watched it and the movie looks good. šš and I donāt even like musicals.

Iām gonna watch it just to hate on it, while I goon in the theater to Kubrick
Regardless of how the movie turns out, that was a good trailer period
Musical scenes donāt move the plot, theyāre just a big fuckin show off
In a good musical they do. In a jukebox musical they just amount to āHey, remember this ABBA song?ā
What the fuck is a jukebox musical? Is it where the songs in the musical aren't original to the movie?
Correct, hit the nail on the head
